RCTLE is excited to present a new podcast series, The Faculty Roundtable: the podcast where faculty discuss faculty development. In each episode, a group of Embry-Riddle faculty members will discuss their most common classroom concerns and share innovative solutions and strategies.  In episode three we build on the topics covered in the V-FLC: 8 Dimensions of Wellness. Panelists Amani Francis (Adjunct Professor for the College of Arts and Sciences) and Jeff Otterstetter (Adjunct Professor for the College of Business) join hosts, Sharron DeRosier and Alyssa Dewees, to discuss work-life balance, managing stress, and bringing grace and kindness to the classroom. Each panelist also shares tips for saving time, managing multiple jobs, and making time for family.

In each episode, a group of Embry-Riddle faculty members will discuss their most common classroom concerns and share innovative solutions and strategies.  In the second episode, "A Conversation With Rookie and Veteran Faculty Members," we hear from two seasoned professors, Kristy Kiernan and Cheryl Lentz, and two new ERAU Worldwide instructors, Russell Schultz and Ajish Morris. As our new faculty members ask questions of veteran faculty, and vice versa, our guests discuss the new adjunct experience, connecting with colleagues, and finding meaningful instructor support at ERAU-W. 

Dr. Andy Aldrin, Associate Professor in the College of Aviation, joins us to discuss the importance of showing ownership of course content and making content relevant for students.  Dr. Aldrin addresses ways faculty members can insert their expertise into the course template and what they can do to help students make meaningful connections with the content. Dr. Aldrin also talks about the power of storytelling and gives us some insight into ERAU Worldwide's Master of Space Operations (MSO) program. 

Dr. Felix Brito, Executive Director of Instructional Design and Development (IDD) here at Embry-Riddle Worldwide, joins us to discuss the importance of consistency in the online classroom. Dr. Brito talks about the course design process, the benefit of course templates, and gives advice about how faculty can help promote consistency within their own courses.

In the pilot episode, professors Emily Faulconer, James Sulton, and Patrick Sherman share their perceptions of good instructor engagement, discuss challenges of connecting with students online, and exchange their favorite techniques for building connection and engagement.

In this episode we are joined by Sofia Barry, a Graduate Academic Advisor II for ERAU-W. Sofia gives us a general overview of Academic Advising's role, discusses things students struggle with in the online classroom environment, and talks about actionable ways faculty can contribute to a positive student experience. She also offers advice about how faculty members can collaborate with advising for the benefit of student success.

Jim Jurewicz, Adjunct Faculty member in the College of Arts and Sciences, joins us to discuss strategies for effectively engaging students in discussion in Online and EagleVision classrooms. Jim talks about making space for all student voices, giving students a safe place to apply content, asking the right questions, and playing devil's advocate. He also gives advice about how to easily monitor student discussion participation and how he provides interventions when needed. 

The College of Aeronautics Adjunct of the Year, Dr. Eva Maleviti, joins us to discuss her transition into the field of Aeronautics, the most rewarding (and challenging) aspects of being an adjunct faculty member, and her most effective teaching strategies.

Assistant Professor of the Practice Ann Marie Ade from the College of Arts and Sciences joins us to talk about the current Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP): Writing Matters. Ann Marie discusses what Writing Matters is, how a decision was made to focus on a writing initiative, and how Writing Matters will benefit students and teachers alike. In this episode we are joined by Dr. Maneesh Sharma, the Dean of the College of Business. Dr. Sharma discusses his road to ERAU, the COB's new Stackable Courses program, and what makes Embry-Riddle a great place to receive an education. He also offers advice about ways to provide our students an education that holds up in the field and gives insight about the future of higher education.

Dr. Debra Bourdeau & Dr. Beverly Wood join us to talk about Humanistic STEM and the importance of elevating the Humanities in the STEM field. They discuss what led them to collaborate across disciplines to develop HUMN 333 and how all of our faculty can take small steps to integrate the Humanities into their own courses. 

This month we talk to Embry-Riddle Worldwide's Dean of Students, Pablo Alvarez. Pablo discusses the evolution of the Dean of Students office and how faculty members can utilize the resources provided. We also learn about simple ways to integrate the eUnion into our teaching practices and how establishing a Worldwide SGA has ushered in a new sense of community for our online students.

In this month's episode we sit down with the RCTLE Team Leads Codie Seier, Heather Rozar-Bergmann, and Kelsey Coates to discuss ways in which faculty can better personalize instruction in the online learning environment. October marks the one year anniversary of the Virtual Environment for Communication: Teaching, Outreach, and Research (VECTOR). To commemorate this milestone we speak with VECTOR's Interim Director Alex Rister, and Assistant Director Dr. Meghan Velez. Alex and Meghan reflect on a successful first year and discuss the many resources VECTOR has available to students and instructors alike.

The start of May term at Embry-Riddle Worldwide brings the adoption of a new video conferencing software-- Zoom! In this episode Kaitlyn Pickus speaks with Mesha Molitor, the Faculty Developer in charge of training all EagleVision instructors on Zoom. Mesha discusses her favorite features of this new platform and gives us tips about how all teachers can use Zoom to engage their students.
