Hey Voices from the Bench community! Jessica Love here, sending a shoutout from Utah! If you're passionate about creating natural, beautiful smiles—but want to simplify your workflow without sacrificing aesthetics—this is for you. I'm honored to be part of Ivoclar's development team introducing a powerful new stain and glaze system featuring Structure Paste, IPS e.max Ceram Art. Create stunning depth and lifelike color in as little as one firing. Let's continue to innovate, simplify, and create meaningful change—one smile at a time. Not too serious about themselves. Big shoutout for bringing the brains — and the electric horsepower. Richard's journey starts in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he grew up moving between nine schools, discovered a gift for fine art, and even earned a scholarship to Tyler School of Art and Architecture — which he turned down out of fear of becoming a starving artist. After a detour into computer programming, granite engraving, and even opening a salsa dance studio with his mom (yes, there's a South Beach nightclub moment that changed everything), Richard eventually answered a tiny newspaper ad asking, “Are you an artist?” That question led him into a dental laboratory and launched a career that would blend creativity, discipline, faith, and serious removable skills. Under intense mentorship and PTC-style training, Richard sharpened his craft in removables, eventually managing a department and earning enough respect that doctors specifically requested him chairside. One large account even pulled all their cases after Richard pushed back on unrealistic deadlines — only to return weeks later with deeper respect and loyalty. That experience shaped his philosophy: honesty, communication, and quality always win long term. His path then led him to ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers, where performing four to six arches a day gave him next-level surgical and prosthetic experience. It was there that the real lightbulb went off — immediate impression evaluation, real-time patient interaction, faster turnaround, and true collaboration between surgeon, prosthodontist, and technician completely changed his view of what was possible. Now Richard has taken that high-efficiency, patient-centered model and built something entirely his own: a boutique removable lab with a fully functional, patent-pending mobile on-site dental laboratory inside a Mercedes Sprinter van. By bringing the lab directly to private practices, he combines multiple traditional appointments into streamlined visits, delivers final dentures in as little as two weeks, processes chairside in the parking lot, and markets not only to dentists but directly to patients. His mission isn't just to make dentures faster — it's to elevate the technician's role, strengthen patient connection, and show that removables can be both efficient and beautiful. Through his new YouTube channel, Mastering Removables, he's beginning to share that knowledge with others who want to rethink what a lab can be. Hey, listeners—ever wonder what Elvis is doing when he's not recording Voices from the Bench? He's a client rep for Derby Dental Laboratory, out in the field every day doing chairside visits and building relationships. His job is simple—keep doctors happy and keep them coming back. And he couldn't do it without iCortica. Right from his phone, Elvis can see sales, remake rates, account notes, risks, and cross-sell opportunities—even before he walks through the door. No spreadsheets. No surprises. Just the info he needs to grow accounts. Stop digging for data and start taking action. Head to icortica.com and schedule your demo today. In this episode of Disruption/Interruption, KJ sits down with Stacy Richter, CEO of Live Lingua, to explore how the EdTech industry has lost sight of what really matters: human connection. Stacy shares his unconventional journey from corporate collections to boutique marketing to language education, revealing how technology became the status quo it was supposed to disrupt. Discover why the "four-legged stool" approach—combining live tutors, technology, AI tools, and resources—is transforming language learning outcomes and bringing the human element back into education. Four Key Takeaways: (9:12) The Technology Paradox - In language learning, technology has become the status quo rather than the disruptor. EdTech platforms are now the norm, but the pendulum swung so far toward exclusive technology that learners lost the human connection essential for true language acquisition. (13:13) Transactional vs. Transformational Learning - Language learning apps excel at increasing screen time and gamification, but their primary goal isn't actual fluency—it's engagement. Real language mastery requires moving beyond transactional interactions to transformational, person-to-person connections that build relationships and trust. (22:58) The Full-Stack Language Model - Live Lingua's "four-legged stool" approach combines live human tutors (the hub), integrated technology, AI tools for practice, and supplementary resources. This hybrid model makes tutoring sessions 10x more valuable and can shorten the learning curve by months or even years. (30:29) The Power of One Connection - Technology cannot replace the value of human connection. As Stacy emphasizes, you're only one conversation, one relationship away from a breakthrough in your personal or professional life—a truth that applies far beyond language learning. Quote of the Show (9:12):"In the education space, the technology has become the status quo. The pendulum swung from personalized in-person services... so far the other way where it's been exclusively technology.” – Stacy Richter Join our Anti-PR newsletter where we’re keeping a watchful and clever eye on PR trends, PR fails, and interesting news in tech so you don't have to. From a family split between union steamfitters and dental technicians in Philadelphia to surviving “The Great Brotherly Lab War,” Jay's story is packed with grit, loyalty, and a whole lot of Irish Catholic chaos. What started with an uncle drafted into dental technology during Vietnam eventually turned into a multi-generation lab legacy—and Jay swearing he'd never get into teeth… only to build a powerhouse anyway. After the 2008 crash wiped out his construction business, Jay bet everything on selling outsourced restorations door-to-door, sleeping in his car, showering at the gym, and cold-calling hundreds of offices a week. What followed was the development of his unapologetically bold, psychologically savvy sales approach—what he calls being “aggressively calm.” From pushing doctors to “no,” to matching their energy toe-to-toe, to walking into offices as “the lab” and walking out with cases in hand, Jay breaks down the mindset shift most lab owners desperately need: sales isn't optional, and it definitely isn't accidental. Now leading multiple lab locations under the brilliantly simple name thedentallab.net, Jay shares hard truths about growth, mergers, firing abusive clients, and why cutting your sales department in tough times is the worst move you can make. If you've ever struggled with prospecting, scaling, or standing your ground with doctors, this episode is packed with practical strategies, hilarious role-playing, and a reminder that confidence—backed by accountability—wins every time. Are we being left behind...Let's think about this for a moment.Architects have AutoCAD. Finance folks have Excel. Sales teams have Salesforce. The list goes on.But what do we as service design professionals have? If we're a bit cynical, you could say that often it's a wall of sticky notes (that the cleaners throw away at night). This brings up a deep and often unspoken insecurity in our field. Could it be that our work is seen as "fluffy" or "invisible" because we lack the "hard" tools that other departments have? That is the provocative question Maxe van Heeswijk brought to the Circle community recently. She challenged us to think about whether having "our own software" would help us claim our territory and be taken more seriously by stakeholders. But to which extent can a tool be the answer to our problems? Will Sharples joined the conversation with a different take. He argues that stakeholders don't actually care about our process or our "proper" service design tools, they just want their problems solved. So in this episode of Inside Service Design, we explore this tension between wanting to be "seen" as experts and the messy reality of getting work done in-house.This conversation is packed with spicy topics like:Whether having a dedicated tool makes you more legitimate, or does it just create new silos? Why our most important work is often the hardest to measure (and get budget for).A brutal method for stripping away busy work to focus on the assets that actually tell a story. And why you are "always selling" the value of service design, even years after you've been hired. So, if you've ever felt like you're doing important work... that nobody sees, this episode is for you. What do you feel is the service design tool at the moment? Do we even have one?Let me know, I'm really curious to hear your take!Be well, ~ Marc--- [ 1. The conversation highlights the shift towards relationship-first prospecting and the long-term thinking necessary for business success.About Collin Stewart:Collin Stewart is a seasoned entrepreneur and sales expert with over a decade of experience in B2B sales development. In 2012, he co-founded voltageCRM, an experience he often cites as a pivotal learning moment. Despite building a high-quality tool, the venture struggled because it lacked true product-market fit. This "failed" startup served as the catalyst for his deep dive into customer development and outbound sales methodology, leading him to co-found Carb.io in 2013, which successfully scaled from zero to $1 million in revenue in just a matter of months.Today, Collin serves as the CEO of Predictable Revenue, where he helps B2B organizations build repeatable, scalable sales development teams and robust go-to-market strategies. He is also the host of the Predictable Revenue Podcast, having interviewed hundreds of industry experts on the nuances of modern sales. Expanding on his years of hands-on experience, Collin authored The Terrifying Art of Finding Customers, a practical guide designed for "sleep-deprived founders" navigating the chaos of early-stage growth. They also connect it to the life of faith: softening the heart so communion becomes possible under God.Key IdeasCuriosity builds relationships when it's rooted in genuine care, not extraction or control.Vulnerability is required for intimacy, but it must match the level of trust that exists.“Nebby” curiosity (nosiness) seeks power or gossip—without shared vulnerability or mutual goodwill.A curious, kind stance toward yourself (and your “parts”) can reduce contempt and grow calm, compassion, and communion. In sales, curiosity becomes a “cheat code” when it serves the person—not the commission—and when it respects boundaries.Links & References (official/source only) Judith Glaser / CreatingWE Institute (Transformational conversation article):https://creatingwe.com/news-blogs/articles-blogs/shifting-to-transformational-conversation-for-best-resultsIFS Institute (Internal Family Systems):https://ifs-institute.com/St. Bernard of Clairvaux (Steps of Humility and Pride – publisher preview PDF):https://tanbooks.com/content/3318_Preview.pdfCTA: If this helped, please leave a review or share this episode with a friend. Tony Morrison has facilitated one in every four property transactions in Tasmania for years. The CEO of Harcourts Tasmania built a BRW Fast 100 company in his early 20s, then made the counterintuitive decision to join a franchise network – and hasn't looked back. In this conversation with Samantha McLean, Tony shares his "Home Ground Advantage" approach to listing presentations – a method that goes against standard training but dramatically improves conversion rates. He explains why doing your pitch in the office (not the vendor's kitchen) gives you control, brings your whole team into the equation, and helps less confident closers win business they'd otherwise lose. The episode delivers practical advice for agents at every stage: how to rebuild momentum after a dry spell by focusing on buyers, how to have price adjustment conversations without damaging the relationship, and what Tony looks for when hiring. His final message is simple – the agents who build the most relationships earn the most money. If you've been hiding behind emails and social posts, this is your prompt to get face to face. #EliteAgent #ThoughtLeaders #ListingPresentation #TonyMorrison #RealEstateTraining

In this episode, Shannon sits down with Dawni Baxter — founder of a boutique marketing agency and a multi-passionate entrepreneur leading the movement in ethical, human-first marketing. Dawni brings a refreshing perspective to an industry filled with noise, inflated promises, and confusing pricing structures. Together, Shannon and Dawni dive into: ✨ How to navigate marketing relationships with confidence ✨ Why transparency and trust are the backbone of ethical marketing ✨ What to look for (and avoid) when hiring a marketing agency or contractor ✨ The power of outsourcing — even when it feels uncomfortable ✨ Why real marketing results require time, patience, and accurate data ✨ How fractional marketing directors provide expert support without bloated retainers Dawni shares why she helped develop the first global regulation for social media managers in the UK, and how her agency champions organic reach and integrity over pushy sales strategies. This conversation is a must-listen for any entrepreneur — especially solo retreat leaders — who wants to grow sustainably, avoid costly marketing mistakes, and build relationships rooted in alignment and trust. Key Takeaways Ethical marketing is about humans first, not hustle culture. Due diligence is essential — marketing professionals are great at marketing themselves. Trust your instincts: if a partner feels off, overpriced, or vague, walk away. There is no standardized pricing in marketing — and that's exactly why transparency matters. Fractional marketing directors are a powerful option for small businesses who need strategy without full-time overhead. Outsourcing is uncomfortable — but it's one of the fastest ways to grow as a founder. Real marketing results come from consistent data over 12–18 months… not overnight "miracles." Quick exits from misaligned relationships often save you more time and money than sticking it out. Listen to This Episode If You: Want to better understand Tantra from a grounded, professional lens. Celebrate our 250th episode with expert strategies that make tough conversations easier — and more meaningful. Some of the most meaningful shifts in how we communicate come from the moments that challenge us the most. In this special 250th episode of Think Fast Talk Smart, Matt Abrahams reflects on the insights that have shown him how conflict can become a catalyst for clarity, connection, and even compassion. From Amy Gallo's reminder that the “right kind of conflict” leads to better outcomes to Jenn Wynn's framework for calming our nervous system before stepping into a hard conversation and Julia Minson's HEAR method for signaling genuine curiosity, each tool helps turn tension into understanding for every stage of conflict. And with Joseph Grenny's guidance on noticing when our motives shift from problem-solving to winning, this episode highlights how self-awareness can reset even the toughest moments. Whether you're navigating workplace disagreements or everyday friction at home, this milestone episode offers practical ways to make difficult dialogue feel less daunting — and a real opportunity to communicate better.Episode Reference Links:Amy GalloAmy's Book: Getting Along: How to Work With AnyoneEp.144 Communicating Through Conflict: How to Get Along with AnyoneJenn Wynn  Jenn's Podcast: The H.I. How AI and Humans Can Be Better Together Featuring Amazon's Pasquale DeMaio

Amazing Business Radio

From Transactional Service to Relationship Building with the Help of Technology  Shep interviews Pasquale DeMaio, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Connect. He talks about how Amazon leverages AI and technology to enhance customer service, with  a "better together" approach where automation and human agents work hand-in-hand to create efficient, empathetic, and proactive customer experiences.  This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:    What is the "better together" approach in customer service technology and human interaction?  How can automation and AI improve efficiency in handling repetitive customer service tasks?  Why is genuine empathy important in customer service, and can technology replicate it?  How does empowering human agents with technology lead to better customer outcomes?  How can customer insights from support interactions drive continuous improvement?  Top Takeaways:   Customer service works best when technology and real people come together. While AI and automation can make things faster and easier, people still want to talk to humans for help with complex or emotional problems.   The goal should always be to use AI to support employees, not replace them. Technology should make it easier for humans to do what they do best: listen, empathize, and solve tricky issues.   It's important to treat every customer with respect and kindness, as you would a friend. Customers want to feel valued, not manipulated, so the best approach is to be sincere by helping them in a way that matches their needs and preferences.  Every interaction is an opportunity to build a relationship and encourage customers to return. Focusing on both solving the issue and making people feel good about the experience creates loyal customers.   Modern tools allow companies to analyze every conversation, not just a few. Every conversation with your customers, whether by phone or chat, is a rich source of information that can reveal trends, problems, and opportunities. This real-time insight can help fix issues faster, spot patterns, and make better decisions to improve service for everyone.  Taking action before problems start, or even before the customer notices there's a problem, makes for an amazing customer experience. When a customer encounters a problem, contacting them with a new option before they ask for help is an example of proactive service. The best companies work to prevent problems or solve them instantly, making customers feel cared for and stress-free.  AI can make agents' jobs better, not obsolete. AI can handle the boring and repetitive parts of the job, like taking notes or finding information, so people can focus on helping customers. This makes work more enjoyable and lets agents do what they're best at, which is solving problems and building relationships.  The end goal should be more than just fixing a problem. Create a positive memory. Make every interaction with a customer one that leaves them feeling happy, satisfied, and eager to return.  Plus, Shep and Pasquale answer the question, "Can computers fake empathy?" Tune in!  Quote:   "Humans are core to the experience. The end customer is a human being, and often, the main contact they have with a company is through human customer service. Everything we do with technology should be designed to fade into the background and allow any human being to be more effective."  About:    Pasquale DeMaio is the Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Connect, the cloud-based contact center solution from Amazon Web Services. Amazon Connect leverages the same underlying technology that Amazon's own global customer service team uses to manage millions of customer interactions every day.  Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio.    Learn more about your ad choices.
