EP 252 Ethical Marketing, Outsourcing, and Building Trust in Business with Dawni Baxter

Happy Hour Podcast with Dee and Shannon

In this episode, Shannon sits down with Dawni Baxter — founder of a boutique marketing agency and a multi-passionate entrepreneur leading the movement in ethical, human-first marketing. Dawni brings a refreshing perspective to an industry filled with noise, inflated promises, and confusing pricing structures. Together, Shannon and Dawni dive into: ✨ How to navigate marketing relationships with confidence ✨ Why transparency and trust are the backbone of ethical marketing ✨ What to look for (and avoid) when hiring a marketing agency or contractor ✨ The power of outsourcing — even when it feels uncomfortable ✨ Why real marketing results require time, patience, and accurate data ✨ How fractional marketing directors provide expert support without bloated retainers Dawni shares why she helped develop the first global regulation for social media managers in the UK, and how her agency champions organic reach and integrity over pushy sales strategies. This conversation is a must-listen for any entrepreneur — especially solo retreat leaders — who wants to grow sustainably, avoid costly marketing mistakes, and build relationships rooted in alignment and trust. Key Takeaways Ethical marketing is about humans first, not hustle culture. Due diligence is essential — marketing professionals are great at marketing themselves. Trust your instincts: if a partner feels off, overpriced, or vague, walk away. There is no standardized pricing in marketing — and that's exactly why transparency matters. Fractional marketing directors are a powerful option for small businesses who need strategy without full-time overhead. Outsourcing is uncomfortable — but it's one of the fastest ways to grow as a founder. Real marketing results come from consistent data over 12–18 months… not overnight "miracles." Quick exits from misaligned relationships often save you more time and money than sticking it out. Listen to This Episode If You: Want to better understand Tantra from a grounded, professional lens. Are interested in how men can contribute meaningfully in the retreat space. Need inspiration for creating safer, more inclusive, and more profitable retreats. How AI and Humans Can Be Better Together Featuring Amazon's Pasquale DeMaio

Amazing Business Radio

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 25, 2025 27:54

From Transactional Service to Relationship Building with the Help of Technology  Shep interviews Pasquale DeMaio, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Connect. He talks about how Amazon leverages AI and technology to enhance customer service, with  a "better together" approach where automation and human agents work hand-in-hand to create efficient, empathetic, and proactive customer experiences.  This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:    What is the "better together" approach in customer service technology and human interaction?  How can automation and AI improve efficiency in handling repetitive customer service tasks?  Why is genuine empathy important in customer service, and can technology replicate it?  How does empowering human agents with technology lead to better customer outcomes?  How can customer insights from support interactions drive continuous improvement?  Top Takeaways:   Customer service works best when technology and real people come together. While AI and automation can make things faster and easier, people still want to talk to humans for help with complex or emotional problems.   The goal should always be to use AI to support employees, not replace them. Technology should make it easier for humans to do what they do best: listen, empathize, and solve tricky issues.   It's important to treat every customer with respect and kindness, as you would a friend. Customers want to feel valued, not manipulated, so the best approach is to be sincere by helping them in a way that matches their needs and preferences.  Every interaction is an opportunity to build a relationship and encourage customers to return. Focusing on both solving the issue and making people feel good about the experience creates loyal customers.   Modern tools allow companies to analyze every conversation, not just a few. Every conversation with your customers, whether by phone or chat, is a rich source of information that can reveal trends, problems, and opportunities. This real-time insight can help fix issues faster, spot patterns, and make better decisions to improve service for everyone.  Taking action before problems start, or even before the customer notices there's a problem, makes for an amazing customer experience. When a customer encounters a problem, contacting them with a new option before they ask for help is an example of proactive service. The best companies work to prevent problems or solve them instantly, making customers feel cared for and stress-free.  AI can make agents' jobs better, not obsolete. AI can handle the boring and repetitive parts of the job, like taking notes or finding information, so people can focus on helping customers. This makes work more enjoyable and lets agents do what they're best at, which is solving problems and building relationships.  The end goal should be more than just fixing a problem. Create a positive memory. Make every interaction with a customer one that leaves them feeling happy, satisfied, and eager to return.  Plus, Shep and Pasquale answer the question, "Can computers fake empathy?" Tune in!  Quote:   "Humans are core to the experience. The end customer is a human being, and often, the main contact they have with a company is through human customer service. Everything we do with technology should be designed to fade into the background and allow any human being to be more effective."  About:    Pasquale DeMaio is the Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Connect, the cloud-based contact center solution from Amazon Web Services. Amazon Connect leverages the same underlying technology that Amazon's own global customer service team uses to manage millions of customer interactions every day.  Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio.    Learn more about your ad choices. They explore why sourcing is shifting, why volume-based activity metrics no longer reflect real performance, and how automation is redefining the recruiter's day-to-day responsibilities.Kortney and Chris break down how AI agents now support sourcing, research, data cleanup, enrichment, and workflow execution—returning hours each week while exposing the widening disconnect between legacy activity tracking and modern recruiter impact. They also discuss how measuring calls, emails, and task volume can unintentionally penalize recruiters who leverage automation effectively, and why leaders must adopt outcome-based metrics grounded in influence, advisory work, and relationship-building. The conversation highlights how living resumes, real-time data enrichment, and agent-driven workflows inside the ATS can unlock value long buried in existing databases.Listen in to explore how automation changes the work—and how humans elevate the results.________________Follow Benjamin Mena LinkedIn: LinkedIn: BenjaminBenjamin Mena with Select Source Solutions: hereThe Elite Recruiter Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theeliterecruiter/Follow Crelate on LinkedIn: CrelateWant to learn more about Crelate? Helen and Dr Harry Kuchah Kuchah reflect on his lifelong ELT journey, beginning with helping classmates in Cameroon and moving through roles as a primary-teacher educator, UK-based researcher, Ministry of Education policymaker, IATEFL President, Chair of the British Council's English Language Advisory Group, and Director of the University of Birmingham's MSc TESOL programme, where he also mentors four PhD students in multilingual education. Guided by the Ubuntu idea that “I am because you are,” he values community and collective work. Harry notes that ELT is becoming more context-sensitive and globally connected, and he advocates for deeper engagement with multilingualism and how languages enrich one another. Seeing language as a tool rather than a product, he argues for assessment that recognises meaningful, culturally situated communication instead of standard RP norms. Though he never sought leadership, relationships led him there, and he views education as a calling rooted in care, mentorship, and human connection.Harry at the University of Birmingham: https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/education/staff/profile?Name=dr-harry-kuchah-kuchah&ReferenceId=206555Harry's Plenary Session on 'Teaching English in Difficult Circumstances at 2015 IATEFL Conference in Manchester: https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/news-and-events/iatefl-online/2015/plenary-harry-kuchah  Harry's contribution to the British Council Podcast series ‘Our World Connected'  on the theme: What role does English play in our multilingual world? https://www.britishcouncil.org/research-insight/our-world-connected-podcast/english-multilingual-worldHarry's autobiographical chapter in Alan Maley's open access edited book is available here: https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/publications/case-studies-insights-and-research/developing-expertise-through-experienceThe Publication from the Africa ELTA Teacher Research mentoring programme can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UIKoFKdwynMvNs4Mj5FyaZZioMgwwBPE/viewTo find the complete archive of Developod episodes, go to tdsig.org/developod-tdsigs-podcast

The Least Talked About Part of Fundraising – Relationship Building Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. In startup fundraising, the discussion focuses on what the investor is looking for. This often comes down to a strong team, traction with the customer, a product with a moat, and momentum in the deal. A key component in raising funding is building a relationship with the investor. There are some startups with enough traction and momentum that carry the startup through the fundraising process. Most startups don't have such traction to win investor interest right out of the gate. It's important the founder builds a relationship with the investor. The founder does this by reaching out on a regular basis first through email and then through phone calls to update the investor and get feedback. After an introductory meeting, this should be done every one to two weeks. Email is great for sending information, but not so much for building a relationship. A discussion by phone or online will build the relationship. The key test to know if you have a relationship with the investor is the ability to make a phone call and have the investor answer it. If you can do that, then you have built a relationship with the investor. If you cannot, then you don't yet have a relationship with the investor. It takes seven touches to close a sale, so it takes seven touches to close an investor.   Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _________________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: http://investorconnect.org  Check out our other podcasts here: https://investorconnect.org/  For Investors check out: https://tencapital.group/investor-landing/  For Startups check out: https://tencapital.group/company-landing/  For eGuides check out: https://tencapital.group/education/  For upcoming Events, check out https://tencapital.group/events/   For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group    Please follow, share, and leave a review. Conversation Economy: How Authentic Dialogue Replaced the Old Sales Playbook feat. Jerson Mellizo

Beyond 7 Figures: Build, Scale, Profit

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 24, 2025 40:41

Learn how to master the conversation economy and transform your outbound marketing strategy Look, I've been in this business long enough to recognize when something fundamental shifts, and the conversation economy we're experiencing right now is exactly that - a complete transformation of how we approach outbound marketing. Gone are the days of those old pitch-heavy tactics that used to work so well. In this episode, I sit down with my incredible teammate Jerson Mellizo to dive deep into why the traditional sales playbook has completely fallen apart and how authentic conversations have become the absolute key to outbound success. We get into the nitty-gritty of how buyer behavior has completely evolved - these prospects today are doing their homework like never before, and if you're still trying to pitch them in the first conversation, you're going to get shut down every single time. I've got to tell you, Jerson has been absolutely instrumental in transforming our outbound department over these past five years, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. When we started working together, our outbound was in its infancy, and now it's become one of our top-producing lead generation channels - and that's largely because of his dedication and innovative thinking. This guy manages our entire outbound operation from the Philippines, and he's created these incredible profitable experiences for our business coaching clients who come to us wanting to grow faster, generate more predictable revenue, and finally get their businesses less dependent on them as founders. His track record speaks for itself - 72% email open rates, helping businesses generate $10K monthly through organic processes, and personally producing PHP 16,000,000 in gross sales. But here's what really gets me: at our recent workshop, 95% of the attendees were literally clapping for Jerson because of the relationship he'd built with them. That's the power of his conversation-first approach, and it's something every business owner needs to understand. KEY TAKEAWAYS: The traditional outbound playbook of rapport-building, goal identification, challenge discovery, and immediate pitching has stopped working because everyone recognizes the pattern. Modern buyers are significantly more discerning than five years ago, conducting extensive research and consuming hours of content before making purchasing decisions. The new outbound strategy focuses on starting authentic conversations rather than pushing immediate sales agendas with complete strangers. Successful outbound marketing now optimizes for content consumption rather than direct conversions, allowing prospects to build trust naturally. The progression from conversation to consumption to conversion can take up to 365 days, requiring patience and consistent value delivery. Every conversation should move prospects toward consuming more content, whether through reports, workshops, videos, or educational materials. Caring is a competitive advantage, and authentic conversations that prioritize serving others naturally lead to business opportunities. Outbound is a broad category with multiple strategies, so if one approach isn't working, it's the strategy that needs changing, not the entire outbound concept. Growing your business is hard, but it doesn't have to be. In this podcast, we will be discussing top level strategies for both growing and expanding your business beyond seven figures. The show will feature a mix of pure content and expert interviews to present key concepts and fundamental topics in a variety of different formats. We believe that this format will enable our listeners to learn the most from the show, implement more in their businesses, and get real value out of the podcast. Enjoy the show. They talk straight about access to wealth and why your phone is a graveyard of unrealized capital. They break down Jarrod's “Buying Favor” operating system, the FAVOR network map, why most masterminds are wasting time, and how humility beats ego when you're leveling up. What You'll Learn Why the saying “your network is your net worth” misses the real key: activation How Jarrod's FAVOR framework (Friends, Associates, Vendors, Organizations, Relatives) becomes a roadmap to deals, capital, and growth Why proximity creates access, and access creates knowledge that can't be learned in a classroom How the most successful entrepreneurs lead with humility, not ego—and why giving comes before asking A proven system to make masterminds profitable: host the room, follow up fast, and become a center of influence Action Steps 1. Map the FAVOR Five Entrepreneurs can list three to five names under each category of FAVOR. Each name should be tied to a specific ask, whether it's insight, a connection, or capital. 2. Practice Give-Give-Ask Before making any ask, add value twice. Share a resource, make an introduction, or help solve a problem. On the third touchpoint, make a high-value, aligned request. 3. Host the Room At the next event or mastermind, book a dinner with 10–12 attendees. Curate the group, build real connections, and follow up within 14 days to keep momentum alive. Beyond 7 Figures: Build, Scale, Profit
Add Value First Money Follows feat. Ramon Ray

Learn how giving value first creates predictable revenue growth Add Value First Money Follows - that's the simple rule most business owners have backwards. They think about what they can get instead of what they can give, and that's why they stay stuck. In this episode, I brought on Ramon Ray because his energy is amazing, but more importantly, he figured out something most people miss: you make money based on how much you help others. We talk about the real meaning behind Darwin's "survival of the fittest" - spoiler alert, it's not what you think - and why hanging around more successful people creates steady growth. Ramon and I break down how to create your own chances instead of waiting to be invited, and why building systems that grow beats working harder every single time. Ramon Ray is exactly the kind of business owner I love talking with - he doesn't wait for permission, he makes his own luck. This guy has built and sold many companies, recently got a job as Bitdefender's small business rep, and here's how he did it: he walked right up to them after speaking at their event and basically made his own job. That's the kind of thinking that separates million-dollar business owners from everyone else. Ramon wrote "Celebrity CEO" and has been on major TV shows, but what I respect most is how he treats relationships - it's never just about business, always about helping first. And now that he's a grandfather to little Ezra, you can bet he's thinking about what he's building and the lessons he'll teach about creating steady success. KEY TAKEAWAYS: How to build revenue-generating relationships by starting every interaction asking what's happening in their personal life and how you can add value instead of leading with your pitch. What to do when opportunities don't come to you by creating your own table and walking up to decision-makers to pitch roles that don't exist yet like Ramon did with Bitdefender. How to accelerate your business growth by surrounding yourself with people operating at higher temperatures who naturally pull you up instead of those who drag you down to their comfort level. What separates seven-figure businesses from the rest by building scalable systems and hiring people to expand the business with you so you're not trapped in daily operations. When to take action on opportunities by getting comfortable being uncomfortable and moving immediately without perfect strategy because breakthrough moments require instant response. What to focus on instead of just services by delivering measurable outcomes and business impact since AI is commoditizing results but can't automate true transformation. How authentic networking creates predictable revenue by approaching relationships with genuine intent to help first so opportunities emerge naturally without forced transactions. When business gets tough and you want to quit by showing up and executing anyway because someone loses if you don't win and consistency during lows separates successful entrepreneurs. Summary In this episode, Andy interviews Jim Ferrell, author of  You and We: A Relational Rethinking of Work, Life and Leadership. Andy has long been a big fan of Jim's work with The Arbinger Institute, authoring Leadership and Self-Deception and The Anatomy of Peace.  In this conversation, Jim unpacks his insights on how leaders can move from a self-focused to a relational mindset. Drawing from his new book, Jim explains why our effectiveness as leaders depends not just on what we do, but on how we view and relate to the people around us. The discussion explores what it means to be relational instead of transactional, how leaders can better navigate conflict, and the subtle ways our self-deceptions hinder growth. Jim also shares practical ideas for building trust, leading with humility, and focusing on outcomes that matter most. This episode is packed with thought-provoking insights that will challenge how you think about leadership, culture, and collaboration. If you're looking for insights on how to become a more relational leader and truly impact those you serve, this episode is for you! Sound Bites “Machines don't have to be great at relation, but they'll be great at everything else. And if we're lousy at relation ourselves, we won't have a job.” "Those who can relate better, that's the uniquely human competitive advantage we bring to the marketplace." "The top people spend most of their time on the relational work, not on the other stuff. So you see it happening already. That's all going to be accelerating." “The most important part of the chart of any org chart is actually all the space in between the names and boxes, because that's where everything's happening, right?” “We went from the body economy to the mind economy to now the heart economy.” “Proximity is not necessarily closeness.” Chapters 00:00 Introduction 01:55 Start of Interview 02:07 Jim Ferrell's Backstory and Early Influences 06:17 About Jim Writing Leadership and Self-Deception 08:57 Exploring the Concept of Relation vs. Relationships 10:07 The Five Levels of Relation 13:19 Managing Relation in Organizations 17:29 The Shift to the Heart Economy 20:00 Insights from the Book 'You and We' 27:00 Proximity vs. Closeness in Remote Work 29:08 The Power of Hydrogen and Oxygen 29:46 Remote vs. In-Person Work Dynamics 32:14 The Importance of Connectivity in Teams 33:14 Understanding Relational Space 34:35 Personal Stories of Relation 37:48 How Can We Discern Where We Are in the Levels? In this special father-son episode of the Dad Edge Podcast, I sit down with my son, Ethan, to continue our August series on raising boys into strong, capable men. Together, we dive into the real challenges young men face today and the lessons that shape character, responsibility, and confidence.   Ethan opens up about what he's learning through work, relationships, and personal growth, while I share insights on how fathers can guide without controlling. We discuss resilience, accountability, and the importance of choosing the right path—even when it's difficult. This conversation is raw, relatable, and packed with wisdom for both dads and sons who want to grow together.     TIMELINE SUMMARY [0:00] - Welcome to our August father-son series [2:10] - Ethan's reflections on independence and early adulthood [5:25] - Why accountability is the key to long-term success [8:41] - Lessons from failure and how to bounce back stronger [12:03] - How to balance freedom with responsibility [15:37] - Why building grit matters more than chasing comfort [19:10] - Navigating friendships and the power of influence [23:46] - What intentional living looks like as a young man [28:04] - Handling setbacks without losing confidence [32:19] - Why fathers need to lead by example, not just advice [36:55] - The role of gratitude in keeping perspective [40:28] - Ethan's biggest lessons so far in work and life [44:12] - Final reflections on manhood, growth, and legacy     5 KEY TAKEAWAYS   1. Accountability Creates Growth The willingness to own your choices and mistakes is what separates boys from men—it's the foundation of maturity. 2. Resilience Is Built Through Struggle Failure is not the end but the classroom. Every setback is an opportunity to learn grit and perseverance. 3. Freedom Without Responsibility Leads to Chaos True independence isn't doing whatever you want—it's learning to carry the weight of your decisions. 4. Influence Shapes Identity The people you surround yourself with will either pull you forward or drag you down. Choose wisely. 5. Gratitude Keeps You Grounded No matter how tough life gets, practicing gratitude helps you stay centered, focused, and motivated to keep moving forward.       LINKS & RESOURCES • 1st Phorm Creatine: https://1stphorm.com/products/micronized-creatine-monohydrate/?a_aid=dadedge • LEVEL 1 BARS:  https://1stphorm.com/products/level-1-bar/?a_aid=dadedge • Dad Edge Podcast Website: https://www.thedadedge.com • Join The Alliance: https://www.thedadedge.com/alliance • Listen to More Episodes: https://www.thedadedge.com/podcast • 25 Questions to Spark Connection With Your Partner: https://www.thedadedge.com/25questions     If this episode challenged or encouraged you, please rate, follow, review, and share the podcast.
