Today\'s the Day is a podcast created by Andy Batt. It revolves around mainly local theater and improvisation artists in Columbus, OH, but will include other things too.
Amanda and I do a blind taste test of the Impossible Burgers from Burger King and White Castle.
Casey and I go head to head on MCU trivia. But clearly Amanda is the only winner here.
This is the one you've all been waiting for. Casey and I, with the help of guest producer Cat McAlpine, review the epic adventure that is Avengers: Endgame.
Trying to find something that Casey and I can disagree on is a hard thing. So we talked about which actors play their roles the best in all of the MCU. I'll give you a hint, it's not Finn Jones.
Casey May and I discuss the trend of hating on MCU villains and then we go ahead and rank them. Because, why wouldn't we?
Casey May returns to the podcast to start our never-ending series of episodes talking about the MCU and other comic book movie/TV stuff. This one features us loosely ranking all the major (and lots of minor) characters in MCU (movies and Netflix TV shows only.)
I interviewed Jared Saltman, former Artistic Director of Gallery Players, fellow Merion Villager, fellow Uber/Lyft driver, and all around person.
Casey May is back for part II of the two part return of the podcast to discuss Avengers: Infinity War. Needless to say, we both have pretty strong opinions on this one.
My good friend Casey May helps me bring the podcast back to life with this much anticipated episode. Casey and I painstakingly rank all the 18 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Just in case you were wondering, this is the definitive ranking. No further discussion needed.
After a near 6 month hiatus, Today's the Day is back with an unconventional epside featuring guest host Jon Osbeck interviewing Andy about where he has been and why he's just a weirdo.
Travis Kendall challenged me to listen to ...Is a Real Boy by Say Anything.
Anthony Pellecchia challenged me to listen to El Camino by The Black Keys.
John Kuhn is a great dad and an okay improviser. I mean, he's a pretty good improviser if you listen to him talk for a while about how good he is, so I guess he is pretty good. But I'm sure he's more proud of being a dad. John Kuhn approved this message.
Chad Hewitt challenged me to listen to Lemonade by Beyoncé.
Merry Christmas!! I feel comfortable saying that because this is posting on the actual day of Christmas. But really, Michael Moore and I don't freaking care anyway. So Happy Holidays too! We'll eat food at whatever holiday you want to celebrate.
Greg J McGill challenged me to listen to Leaving Songs by Stuart A Staples.
I had a couple of really talented ladies from the Columbus improv scene come by for an interview. They are two of the most experienced improvisers in the city. And that's not me saying they're old. I'm not that brave.
Josh Kessler challenged me to listen to Glass Houses by Billy Joel.
Some people call him the Duke of Franklinton. Okay, I just made that up, but I'm sure someone has called himself that at some point over the last 15 years.
Bill Hafner challenged me to listen to American Beauty by The Grateful Dead.
Casey and I are both old school dorks. We could probably both kick your ass, so watch yourself with who you call a dork!
Vicki Kessler challenged me to listen to Love Stuff by Elle King.
Red Herring Productions Founder and Artistic Director Michael Herring has been around Columbus theatre for a long time. He's seen some shit and done some stuff. Listen in to find out how much shit and stuff.
Cat McAlpine challenged me to listen to Oracular Spectacular by MGMT.
Josie (not Josephine) Merkle is part of the ruling class of German Village. Don't mess with her! But seriously, what a nice woman with which to have a great conversation about character work and theatre in general.
Audrey Rush challenged me to listen to The Blessed Unrest by Sara Bareilles.
Allison Loeffert Challenged me to listen to the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Rent.
Teacher and local improver Alex Dodge came by to borrow a coat I have, so I made him sit down for an interview. I think we did a pretty good job of solving all of the problems facing arts and education. You're welcome, world!
Joe Moorer challenged me to listen to To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar.
For my first ever stand-up comedian interview, I sat down with the talented Nickey Winkelman. We bonded over our dislike of Keenan Thompson.
Michelle DiCeglio challenged me to listen to Anthem by Hanson.
She left FFN just before I joined in 1999. Then I left FFN just before she rejoined in 2016. Much like Mattingly and Jeter, we just can't exist on the same team at the same time.
Amanda Bauer challenged me to listen to Vol. 1 by The Traveling Wilburys.
James Dailey challenged me to listen to Look Up by So Long, Stargazer.
He's one of the best physical performers I've seen! He's one of my favorite improvisers in Columbus! He weighs almost half as much as I do! He's Alex Lefeld! And we had a good conversation about video games and politics. Because I think Donald Trump basically wants to turn America into a real life Grand Theft Auto. Or that's how he sees it now. Who can really tell?
Ryan Kopycinski challenged me to listen to The Phosphorescent Blues by Punch Brothers.
FFN & MadLab old-timer Peter Graybeal is a pretty cool dude. And he brought peanut butter Twix for the recording! What else could you want out of your right-hand man?
I spoke with the seemingly ageless Acacia Duncan. She's an incredible local stage talent and pretty good person to boot. We talked theatre....a lot of theatre.
My 2nd interview of the day featured local cartoonist/illustrator/author/cool dude, Max Ink. He's been putting his artwork out there for us for a long time and it's a darn shame that so many of us have yet to be exposed to his brand of down-to-earth perspective.
What a great interview with local artist Jennifer Morley. Jennifer fascinated me with tales of a condition she has called senesthia. I'm not even going to attempt to explain it here. Suffice to say, she uses it to make some pretty cool art!
Fellow ginger and general grumpy person Sheree Evans was an absolute delight to talk to as we return from celebrating the one year anniversary of the podcast. We talked about all the people and things we dislike and how we just don't care if people don't like that. She's a kindred spirit.
An event nearly one year in the making! Andy interviews his wife!!! But seriously, what better way to celebrate my 50th episode and one-year anniversary of the podcast than by interviewing the one person that might be more responsible for making it happen than myself? She's a great partner, motivator, and inspiration for me to do more. And technically, not the worst person in the world at all.
The summer of catching up with old theater friends continues with local film actor/producer, founding MadLab Ensemble member, and old-time FFN member Jeff Potts. By all accounts, Jeff is a good dad. I wish he were my dad. Fuck you, dad.
Had a great time catching up with former local actress, but current star at whatever she does wherever she does it - Amanda Howell. She always puts a smile on my face because she always has a smile on hers.
I interviewed MadLab board member and Young Writers mentor Jason Beehler. He's not only older than he looks, but he's smarter than he seems (lawyers, meh.)
I was joined by 100% of the 2-person improv comedy troupe Easily Amused - Kristen Howell & Mike Weaver. Finally, I learned the true history of one of the oldest troupes in Columbus. And we talked about how well Jesus would fit in at Comfest.
In a special Musings episode, I was honored to be joined by local improviser Joe Moorer and singer Qamil Wright to discuss the horrible tragedies of the past week.
Fishbowl Improv alum, current Fake Baconer, and general world jet-setter Katie Drown dropped by (in an Uber no less) to chat about Brazil, improv, and how much real hostels are nothing like the movie Hostel.
