This week, we dive into the Golden Age of Synthesizers, the period from the mid‑'70s to the mid‑'80s when synths became smaller, cheaper, and powerful enough to transform popular music forever. From early experimental machines that filled entire rooms, to the groundbreaking work of innovators like Bob Moog and Don Buchla, we trace how synthesizers moved from academic curiosity to pop‑culture force. Along the way, we hear key moments from artists who helped define the era: Wendy Carlos, Hot Butter, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, MGMT, and more. We explore how techno‑pop emerged alongside punk's DIY spirit. Our guides through this electronic frontier are Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), who were right at the center of the movement. They share insights into the gear, the sounds, and the creative mindset that shaped a generation of music, and still echoes through today's electronic and alternative scenes. From Autobahn to Electricity, from Mellotrons to MIDI, this is the story of how machines rewired music, and how the studio itself became an instrument. Learn more about your ad choices. The Avalanches comparten "Every Single Weekend" con Jamie XX, como invitado. Una canción refrescante y contagiosa cuyo germen encontramos en un interludio de "In Wawes", el disco que Jamie XX publicó en 2024 y que contiene "All Your Children" con la colaboración, precisamente, de The Avalanches. The bros are absolutely firing today! We dive into why sober Vegas might secretly be elite, tankless water heater propaganda and why John Wick is the perfect airplane movie. Chad talks about getting cooked online for his memorial day workout form and explains why China might actually be good for America because it keeps us locked in and studying. We also go deep on Alex Cooper and the daddy gang. JT explains the dangers of sloppilism and talks about why he cruises into the pod with his windows down jamming out to MGMT. We also take a call from Cadatonic from reddit about improv. The bros get super REAL about the direction of the pod. This is an all timer with just the bros jam packed with loads of stoke and love. Today, we are another episode in our series, sponsored by our good friends at Railsware. Railsware is a leading product studio with two main focuses - services and products. They have created amazing products like Mailtrap, Coupler and TitanApps, while also partnering with teams like Calendly and Bright Bytes. They deliver amazing products, and have happy customers to prove it.In this series, we are digging into the company's methods around product engineering and development. In particular, we will cover relevant topics to not only highlight their expertise, but to educate you on industry trends alongside their experience. In today's episode, we are chatting with Julia Starun, Product Director at Railsware with over 17 years of experience in product management, business process automation and optimization. Julia will share her insights into where an MBA helps you manage a product team - and where it doesn't.Questions:What was your story before MBA, and what motivated your decision to pursue it?What real-world gaps between MBA theory and product management practices did you discover at Railsware?Does MBA training help with the "people management" side of leading product teams? How can the tools and frameworks you learned during your MBA help with uncertainty – or overcomplicate things – when creating products? How does understanding "business stuff" – like P&L, unit economics, financial modeling, etc. – change how you approach product decisions?Does MBA business strategy training help product managers think beyond features to market positioning? For someone already managing product teams, when does pursuing an MBA make sense versus other learning paths? What's your biggest surprise about how MBA education did (or didn't) change the way you approach the realities of product team leadership?Linkshttps://railsware.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/julia-starun/Our Sponsors:* Check out Incogni: https://incogni.com/codestory* Check out NordVPN: https://nordprotect.com/codestorySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story-insights-from-startup-tech-leaders/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

As the great poets, MGMT once said, "Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do? Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute? Forget about our mother and our friends. We're fated to pretend." Jake and Geoff talk about Jimmy Kimmel, Christian victimhood and performative behavior, the global economy and what is all hidden underneath it all. They wrap up by talking about Jake being bullied... by a scary 6-year-old.
Would you like to become an influencer? Would you like a step-by-step playbook for how to get that career up and running? If you’ve ever wanted to monetise your passions and turn your knowledge into profit, this is the episode for you. Kat Moses is the founder of MGMT, one of Australia’s leading influencer talent agencies. She manages many of the big names in Australia and knows what’s what and who’s who in the world of influencer marketing, influencer management, brand collabs and much more. I sat down with Kat to talk about all things influencers, but what I loved most about our chat was that she gave me a blow-by-blow summary of how I could become an influencer – and it’s a guide that you could use to do the same. In this episode, you’ll learn: How Kat transitioned from working for others to being the founder of her own agency. Why she moved to Los Angeles to grow the business. A day in the life of a successful influencer. How anyone can turn their knowledge into actionable insights people would pay for. What she looks for in an influencer and how to find representation. Why authenticity and consistency always beat follower count. How to create a compelling content plan. How creators can future-proof themselves in the face of AI, fatigue, and shifting platforms. The exact blueprint Kat uses to help new talent find their niche, grow fast, and get paid. Why influencer marketing is far from over, and where it’s heading next. On episode 423 of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive into the sonic world of keyboards — not the clacky kind you're typing on, but the kind that can make a rock anthem soar or turn a groove into pure magic. Each host shares their personal top five tracks that showcase the power of keys.Professor Aubrey's picks span from Billy Preston's legendary turn on The Beatles' “Get Back”, to Stevie Wonder's funk-defining “Superstition”, the haunting post-punk of Joy Division's “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, MGMT's psychedelic anthem “Kids”, and the shimmering dance beat of Arcade Fire's “Sprawl II.”Tim the Nerd counters with his own heavy-hitting lineup: The Who's stadium-shaking “Baba O'Riley”, Van Halen's synth-laden “I'll Wait”, Ray Charles' groundbreaking “What'd I Say”, Queen's operatic masterpiece “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and The Doors' moody classic “Riders On The Storm.”Listeners can head over to the Friends Talking Nerdy website and cast their vote for whose playlist reigns supreme. But the episode doesn't stop there.
