Tara reflects on Matthew 4:1–4, where Jesus, led by the Holy Spirit, fasts for 40 days in the wilderness and faces the accuser's first temptation to turn stones into bread. She connects Jesus' response—recalling God's provision—to Jesus' grounding in the Torah and his calling to be the bread of life. She also explores stones as Old Testament markers of encounters with God (Jacob's pillow and Joshua's stones), suggesting stone and bread symbolize God's presence and provision even in temptation. She offers reflection questions, a Lenten practice of carrying a stone with a prayer, and shares her poem “A Stone to Re-member."Send Tara a Text MessageJoin Tara for Worship on Sunday morning at 10 am. Plan a Family Prayer Night! But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15 The family that prays together stays together. Imagine your home transformed into a place where warmth and love intertwine, much like a cozy fireplace that radiates heat into every room. This is the essence of a family united in prayer — a sanctuary that nurtures faith and fosters connections. Like Cornelius, whose entire household found salvation through fervent prayer (Acts 10), your family can experience a divine revival that ignites spiritual passion. As you gather around the dinner table, let the words of L. Engle echo in your hearts: “Revival begins around the dinner table.” This is where stories are shared, laughter resonates, and prayers ascend to heaven. Committing to a Family Prayer Night can set the stage for a miraculous transformation, filling your home with the spirit of unity and love, as promised in Joshua 24:15: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Psalm 128:3-4 describes the domestic blessings of those who fear the Lord: "Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants all around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the LORD." Remember, "A calendar can hold a meeting, but a prayer night holds a legacy — whispers today shaping faith for generations." Just as a fireplace draws loved ones near, your prayer night can be a gathering point that encourages open communication, understanding, and shared faith. When families come together in prayer, they will inevitably stay together, as F. Peyton wisely noted. Brethren, "Let your living room become a little chapel where laughter and psalms braid together. That rhythm will echo as your family's spiritual legacy." Dream of a legacy where your grandkids feel at home with God because you did. Picture the blessings that flow through generations when prayer becomes a nightly ritual — one that warms the heart and spirit, forging an unbreakable bond among family members. As you embark on this journey of prayer, may your home be a beacon of hope. Amen. Acts 16:31 says, they replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Let's pray for salvation, unity, and protection over our relatives. Heavenly Father, we come before You, seeking Your grace to envelop our families. Fill our hearts with love and faith as we gather in Your name; ignite a holy fire in our homes. May every prayer echo in heaven and every heart be transformed. In Jesus name. Amen. https://maglife.org/

Tara and guest Rev. Ellen Corcella—author of "Walk With Me: A Journey Through the Landscape of Trauma" and host of Faith and Resilience Podcast—talk about resilience during Lent and in everyday life. They discuss resilience as both internal and beyond oneself, rooted in meaning-making, adaptability, and connection rather than individualism. Tara shares her evolving definition of theopoetics as creative engagement with God in community, and reflects on Julian of Norwich's hazelnut vision—God made it, loves it, and keeps it—as a grounding way to notice “thin spaces” of the sacred in ordinary moments. Tara describes practices like Lectio Divina and Visio Divina, using scripture, art, doodling, and poetry for contemplation, and reads her poem “Thin Space Day,” which locates pilgrimage-like holiness in daily routines (carpool, mailbox walks, lunchtime, coffee, commutes). The conversation connects thin spaces to Lent's wilderness metaphor, emphasizes God's presence in both mountaintops and valleys, and reframes “all manner of things be well” (AMOT) as holding both consolation and desolation. Ellen shares where to find her book, podcast and website (www.ellencorcella.com).Send Tara a Text MessageJoin Tara for Worship on Sunday morning at 10 am. LEXINGTON, Ky. (January 30, 2026) – Central Appalachia has powered the nation for generations — fueling industry, building cities, and supporting economic growth far beyond the region itself. But as coal and other extractive industries decline, communities across Appalachia are once again facing transition. The question, as many have learned through hard experience, isn't whether change is coming — it's whether that change will be just. On this episode of Behind the Blue, Shaunna Scott, a recently retired associate professor of sociology in the UK Department of Sociology and Kathryn Engle, an adjunct assistant professor of sociology and the director of the UK Appalachian Center discuss a new book they co-edited, Toward Just Transitions: Visions for Regenerative Communities in Appalachia. Drawing on decades of scholarship, community-based research, and on-the-ground activism, the conversation explores what it means to move beyond extractive economies toward futures grounded in democracy, equity, health, and local control. Scott and Engle frame Appalachia not only as a region shaped by coal and industrial decline, but as a place already rich with grassroots innovation—from local food systems and youth leadership to cooperative ownership and Indigenous perspectives on land and stewardship. Together, they reflect on history, climate change, racial and economic justice, and the role institutions like the University of Kentucky can play in supporting community-led solutions across the Commonwealth. 'Behind the Blue' is available via a variety of podcast providers, including Apple Podcasts, YouTube and Spotify. What if everything we are told about ancient civilizations is completely backwards? In this mind-expanding conversation, engineer and ancient mysteries researcher Tyler Engle breaks down why the ancient sites like the pyramids weren't tombs, they were time capsules. Messages written in stone about the nature of reality they knew their descendants would need to remember. Tyler explains how the recently discovered massive shafts beneath the Giza pyramids were possibly a planetary-scale energy battery and consciousness synchronization system. We explore the mystery of how ancient structures were built with precision impossible even with today's engineering. Tyler reveals technology being developed right now that transmutes matter through quantum geometry, and how this might explain what the ancients were really doing. We dive into plasma as a potentially intelligent life form, the hidden meaning behind crop circles that encode advanced physics, and why indigenous "mythology" about thunder beings might be more literal than we think.Tyler brings an engineer's rigor to topics that usually live in the realm of speculation, showing how ancient wisdom aligns perfectly with cutting-edge physics and our emerging understanding of consciousness as a fundamental force in the universe. We also get into why the educational system was designed the way it was, how to redesign it around hermetic principles, and why some people wake up to these ideas while others fall into traps like flat earth theory. This isn't just about the past—it's about remembering a technology of consciousness that could fundamentally change our future. If you've ever felt like there's something we're missing about how reality actually works, this conversation will give you a framework to understand it. A framework that might be necessary for our very survival. | Tyler Engle |►Website | https://bassforge.us/►Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/bassforge.us/►Tiktok | https://www.tiktok.com/@bassforge.us?lang=en►YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/@BassForge_us►Check Out Tyler Engle's new book Cryptex Esoterica: Divergent Science of the Ancient World | https://shorturl.at/1XdgJ►Check out Tyler and Laurie Engle's new books for kids based on the 7 Hermetic Principles | https://shorturl.at/9pihuThis episode is sponsored by►Metal Mark Golden Collectable Art | https://mtlmrk.com/►Korrect Energy | https://korrectlife.com/| Aubrey Marcus |►Website | http://bit.ly/2GesYqi ►Instagram | http://bit.ly/2BlfCEO ►Facebook | http://bit.ly/2F4nBZk ►X | http://bit.ly/2BlGBAdAdSubscribe to the Aubrey Marcus newsletter:https://www.aubreymarcus.com/pages/emailTo partner with the Aubrey Marcus PodcastSubscribe to the Aubrey Marcus podcast:iTunes | https://apple.co/2lMZRCn Spotify | https://spoti.fi/2EaELZO Stitcher | http://bit.ly/2G8ccJt IHeartRadio | https://ihr.fm/3CiV4x3

Photo: Josh Engle, manager and peer support specialist at True North Recovery in Wasilla, gives out cookies as part of homeless outreach efforts in Anchorage on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. (Matt Faubion / Alaska Public Media) For people experiencing addition, it can help to talk to someone who has been through recovery themselves. Peer support specialists offer a different kind of support from therapists or psychiatrists. And in Alaska, there are state certifications for peer support roles, including a special track for Indigenous people with lived experience in recovery. Alaska Public Media's Rachel Cassandra has more on peer-to-peer care in the state. Josh Engle is bundled up on one of the first really cold days in October. He walks along a forest path to do outreach in an encampment in Anchorage. He approaches a man in a weathered coat. “How long you been out here on the streets?” “Too long. Yeah. Yeah.” Several tents and makeshift structures lean together. “You connected with any resources?” Engle is a manager and peer support specialist at True North Recovery – and one of his aims today is to help guide people into recovery. It's a path Engle knows well because he's in long-term recovery himself. Now he supports people in ways that go well beyond what a more traditional therapist or psychiatrist can do. He may text with clients outside business hours, help them find work or get connected with benefits – anything that supports them in a way that might lead to recovery. “I personally, really enjoy being able to connect with them on a personal level of someone that has walked their path.” When patients interact with workers with lived experience, research shows it can aid recovery and can reduce healthcare costs. Aaron Surma is Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Juneau, which runs training for peer support. And Surma experiences mental illness himself. He says psychiatrists and mental health professionals play an important role in supporting recovery and treatment, but there is a strong power difference. “You’re in a small room, you’re making intense eye contact, and the dynamic is that you have the expert and the person who needs help.” Surma says he was arrested multiple times during high school and was court ordered to go to Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. He says hearing peers in those groups was awesome, but things felt different when talking with his formal providers. “When I was a teenager, I was lighting stuff on fire and buying garbage bags of weed. So then to go into a small room and talk to somebody who you know, like, imagine the counselor from “South Park” who’s saying ‘Drugs are bad, Mkay?’ And it’s a million miles from what you know.” He says it's easier for peers to bridge those gaps in early recovery. Peer support specialists speak the language of addiction and mental illness and also understand the more traditional language of behavioral health professionals. Seeds of Eden, which offers addiction recovery services and community-based behavioral health services, recently received a $30,000 grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation. The grant will help the organization’s work to provide sober living, peer support, care coordination, and case management, including a project to build a recovery housing facility on the Standing Rock Reservation on the South Dakota side. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe straddles the South Dakota and North Dakota border. Isaiah Keller is one of the co-founders of Seeds of Eden. He says they're already secured a home, which is being remodel to offer future services. “The house that we have been remodeling is about 90% complete. So, a small portion of the funds that were awarded will go to finish that project, that house and to make it livable and to make it functional.” Keller says Seeds of Eden was designed to help fill a gap when it comes to addiction recovery services, and he says the group realized there was a need for assistance within tribal communities. He says they've been working closely with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Native American board members, and Native advocates. “We’ve partnered with a really good ally and advocate. And her name is Bobbi Jamerson. She’s the chairwoman of the Bear Soldier District on the South Dakota side of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. And she has been advocating and promoting recovery and community involvement. We’re at a point right now where we feel like we have some great traction and some great movement.” Keller says they would like to expand services across South Dakota and beyond. There’s a quiet kind of grace found at the table—a place where the noise of daily life slows and God’s presence feels nearer. Luke 22:14–15 reminds us that Jesus deeply desired time at the table with His friends. That same invitation extends to us: to pause, to savor, and to step out of the rush of chronos time and into the soul-settling rhythm of kairos—God’s time. Whether shared with others or enjoyed in peaceful solitude, the table can become a sacred space where our hearts are refilled. Highlights Jesus modeled intentional, meaningful moments around the table. Small choices—like candles, real dishes, or slowing the pace—help us step into God-centered time. The table can create a boundary against stress, hurry, and digital distraction. Kairos moments often come through simple acts of presence, connection, and gratitude. Communing with God at the table—alone or with others—shifts our focus from exhaustion to rest. Creating beauty in ordinary moments can soften the heart and open space for reflection. A quiet table can become a reminder that God meets us in everyday rhythms. Gift Inspiration: Crosswalk's Holiday Gift Guide Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate the season? Though I have wonderful visions of eating at the table with our children, sharing about our days, and passing the potatoes, the reality is that with three children under the age of seven, evenings in our household often involve pouting over vegetables, lively play in dinosaur pajamas, and occasional tears about toothbrushing. And by the time everyone finally makes it to bed, the thought of being upright any longer feels too heavy a burden to bear. “Think we should eat at the table tonight?” my husband will ask tentatively, a plate in each hand. “Not tonight,” I’ll say most nights. “The couch is calling my name.” And then I’ll plop down, an exhausted pile of mush. But last week, I made a parmesan risotto and slow-cooked beef tips, and I spooned it into pretty bowls. It looked so lovely that I thought, “Well, I’ll put out the cloth napkins.” After I did that, it only seemed right to light a few tapered candles. When my husband emerged from bedtime story duty, his eyes got wide. “I guess we’re eating at the table?” We lingered at the table long after our food was done, simply talking and enjoying the time together. When we finally saw the time, we retreated to get ready for bed, both remarking how nice the evening had been and how we should do this simple thing more often. The author Sarah Clarkson talks about how Madeleine L’Engle reflected on the two words used for ‘time’ by the ancient Greeks: one is chronos, which refers to chronological time, and the other is kairos, which L’Engle refers to as “God’s time.” Clarkson writes about the various ways her family intentionally pushed back against the demands of chronos time to make room for kairos, saying, “...kairos is also our choice, a way of offering our hours to God so that they become the cup and cradle for his precious life” (This Beautiful Truth: How God’s Goodness Breaks Into Our Darkness, pg. 157-158). Eating at the table is one way to usher in kairos time: to draw boundaries around the sacred so that the world has to wait outside for a while. When Jesus ate his Last Supper with the disciples, his friends, I always imagine that it was his way of encircling this time of communion and protecting it from the forward march of chronological time—and all the events that would soon follow. He protected it, cradled it, and enjoyed it for all it was worth. To him, it wasn’t just a meal or even a religious ritual: He told his disciples, “I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” It was a joy—in these moments, kairos time—God’s time—was activated. Intersecting Faith & Life: The table is a wonderful way to step into kairos time. Though it’s wonderful to enjoy a meal with others—whether that’s a spouse or a friend, or a dinner party filled with chatter and laughter—it can also be powerful to sit at the table alone and use that time to commune with God. Somehow, the posture of sitting at a place meant for reflection and communion can signal to your body, mind, and spirit, “It’s okay to put the world aside for a while. It’s okay to step into rest, or joy, or gratitude, or fellowship.” Give it a try. Even if it’s for a simple breakfast, try putting your food on a beautiful dish. Light a candle. Put on some light music. See how it elevates your mood. Take note of how you might experience time differently here. Invite God in. Breathe deeply. Welcome to kairos time. Lovecraft's imagined pantheon of cosmic entities and their extraordinary transformation into living figures within modern occultism. Drawing on peer-reviewed research, we trace how Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, and Nyarlathotep escaped the pages of pulp horror to become objects of ritual, devotion, and philosophical speculation. Growing up autistic brings a perspective that parents, teachers, and therapists can learn so much from. This week, I'm talking with Becca Engle, a special education teacher, book coach, and autistic adult. Becca was diagnosed at age three, found her voice by age five, and has been navigating the ups and downs of life with autism ever since. In our conversation, she shares what made a difference along the way—from the adults who supported her to the moments of real connection that opened doors to learning. We also dig into how assumptions about autism can shape—or limit—a child's future. Becca's story is such a good reminder that every child's journey is different, and that growth doesn't always look the way we think it will. Find out more about Becca on her socials.
