Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to Episode 34! Despite what our intro says, we are actually releasing this as 34. I should have cut all that episode 33 stuff out except I found it hilarious on a meta level for myself, hence why it's still there. We decided to shift some recordings around and that's why this ended up where it did. Turns out that it's not the only flub I made but it all hangs together and it's still a very fun episode. Also, even though we recorded some segments out of our normal order, I decided to leave it that way on purpose. Let me know if you like having the Why Did I Play That before the Topic of the Week or if we should change it back. Regardless! This is another great episode for you and it's just the guys this week without any special guests. We talk components, Ex Libris, a variety of excellent games, and just have a weird and wild time with this. We say it a couple times but by the time this recording ended it was about 4am and was the like sixth thing we recorded that evening. I love weird episodes. Let us know if you do too - boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com! Thanks for sticking with us on this, next episode is another Top Ten and this one features the infamous Jen! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:04 - What's Been on the Table 00:07:22 - Why Did I Play That: Ex Libris Revised Edition 00:17:59 - Grand Gamers Guild Sponsor 00:19:15 - Topic of the Week: The Component Rundown 00:42:50 - Table / Shelf / Trade 01:00:50 - Rotating Segment: Surprise Party 01:07:18 - Secret Door Sponsor 01:08:09 - Meeple Source Sponsor 01:09:12 - Victory Roll Sponsor 01:10:02 - Contact Info for BATT and Theater Geeks 01:11:14 - Outro --- Notes! 1) We recorded our topic of the week before we knew about the Iron Coins from the new Brass Pittsburgh campaign. Those coins are amazing but cost on them reflects that too. 2) There are sometimes I leave stuff in the edit just for me. This is one of those episodes. 3) BuyMeToys is an excellent comics retailer around us and we love them dearly. You can check them out at https://buymetoys.com 4) At the time of this recording we had not played Pittsburgh yet, nor did we have the prototype in hand or even know that we were going to be part of that incredibly succesful campaign, so Lancashire really was a big deal for all of us. When we got invited into the Pittsburgh stuff, it was just an incredible experience. This'll also likely be the last time we get this Brass-y in an episode since we were deep in the throes of playing them all for so long. 5) While the Kickstarter page for Stonespine Architects: Invasion isn't up yet, the pre-launch page on their website is: https://thunderworksgames.com/products/stonespine-architects-invasion-expansion --- We'd like to thank our sponsors as well: Grand Gamers Guild! https://grandgamersguild.com. The co-host of the award winning podcast, ‘The Worst Idea Of All Time', Tim Batt is one of New Zealand's sharpest comedic minds. He's taken some time away from the festival circuit to raise his children, but has decided 2026 will be his return. Batt is bringing his dry humour to the International Comedy Festival with a brand-new stand-up show, ‘Eternal Optimist', in which he, in his own words, “makes light” of the rising tide of fascism and offers a sincere apology for accidently causing a dire situation. He told Jack Tame that while the world's not looking the best it ever has at the moment, it's important to keep your chin up whenever you can. “For me it comes from a place of like, I wanna be useful, and I think you're not useful to anyone if you're sort of paralysed by the world, by all the negativity.” Circumstances have been getting tougher and tougher over the years and Batt believes the funk that causes can make people easier to manipulate. “We've really been put through the meat grinder,” he told Tame. “And I think that there are some pretty evil, very wealthy people who have taken advantage of the fact that they've got a lot of power and they've tricked us into thinking the wrong people are our issue.” Since everything seems to be getting worse in real life, Batt decided to take a more optimistic approach in his comedy show. Kind of. “I went in with a hiss and a roar being like, hey, let's flip the script a little bit. Yeah, we'll be radically positive in this one. Is that in the show? A bit!” Batt explained, agreeing with Tame's assessment that the show would be more “optimism adjacent”. His show won't be over the top “himbo comedy”, he stressed, focusing only on the positives – there will be some gallows and black comedy too. “I've got a lot of Irish heritage,” he told Tame. “I'm certainly down for having too many whiskeys and talking in a, very dark pub about how bad everything's gotten as well.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to Episode 33 and this one is a super special episode for us. See around Mark's birthday in March each year is MacWagCon and we just play games starting at 7p on Friday and go absurdly late for the next couple days. When we finally wrap up late on Sunday, we're all exhausted. This year's con was the biggest yet and we had some incredible guests join in - including our guest on this particular episode! We had a really great time speaking with Marc Specter from our channel sponsor Grand Gamers Guild. We had a winding conversation discussing what it's like to be a small publisher, licensing and localizing games, editing rulebooks, and fighting off a collector's mentality with him. Jason had a turn at Why Did I Play That this week and somehow caught himself in the blast too. And then we got to talking about a lot of different games in Table Shelf and Trade. It's a longer one this week, we played a lot of games that weekend, but I do think it's a really enjoyable episode regardless. Once you've listened to it, hit us up at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com and let us know what you think or if there is anything else you'd like to know from Marc! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:02:54 - What's Been on the Table 00:09:07 - Topic of the Week: Grand Gamers Guild and Being a Small Publisher 00:27:33 - Grand Gamers Guild Sponsor 00:28:36 - Why Did I Play That: Quartz the Dice Game 00:42:39 - Table / Shelf / Trade 01:17:43 - Secret Door Sponsor 01:18:34 - Meeple Source Sponsor 01:19:37 - Victory Roll Sponsor 01:20:27 - Contact Info for BATT and Theater Geeks 01:21:39 - Outro --- Notes! 1) We said it in the episode - but to reiterate, this was deep into a convention weekend and all the hosts were exhausted. Our voices were shot and Scott's was suffering even more than the rest. I've tried to minimize the excess noise from coughs and such, but thanks for the patience with that. Additionally my five year old was constantly running around and jumping above us - I've tried my best to reduce that noise as much as possible as well but I know there are moments it's just in there. 2) I've said this on previous episodes with industry guests, but I ended up cutting large pieces of very interesting conversation out to try and reach a relatively okay episode length. For instance, during Marc's segment on What's Been on the Table, we tangented off into about ten minutes on big boxes and storage solutions. It's good stuff, but didn't make sense to keep in that segment, hence why my piece of that segment seems to come out of nowhere. That content will show up in an odds and ends at some point. 3) Similar to the prior note, the rotating segment was cut for length. It'll show up in a future odds and ends. 4) Since the time of recording, Jason has played Off With Their Heads and enjoyed it. It'll likely get talked again in the future because that game really is great. --- We'd like to thank our sponsors as well: Grand Gamers Guild! https://grandgamersguild.com. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to a little piece of bonus content where we got to sit down and record a conversation with the owners of Victory Roll Café. We had the best of intentions for this to be a formal, sit-down interview but it devolved into us just having too much fun. Add in that they were taking time out of their Holiday Party which had the store completely wall to wall packed and I'm amazed we got the fifteen minutes we did out of all of them. Seriously they're great people and it's a wonderful space that the BATT crew regularly haunts. We'll probably try again and have a full, "professional" interview again with them but know that this definitely won't be the last time that you hear these voices on the podcast. Thanks again to Lisa, Danny, Dori, and Jeff for making the time they could and I hope that you go visit the café as soon as you can! --- We'd like to thank our sponsors as well: Grand Gamers Guild! https://grandgamersguild.com. Izzi Batt-Doyle is back for a chat! And she's been really busy since she and Elise last spoke. Between running two Australian records on the roads, competing at the Olympics, running a few marathons (all within 40 seconds of each other), getting engaged, buying a house and becoming a dog mum – Izzi certainly hasn't been twiddling her thumbs! We cover all those things, and go in depth on her Nagoya Marathon and Valencia Marathons, including the Australian Record pressures, Izzi's reflections on a big year of training and racing, and the overtraining hole she was in at the end of 2025. We then turn our attention to Boston Marathon, where Izzi will line up on 20 April, and the appeal of not racing for a fast time, but running free instead. We hear how training is going, including ramping up strength and nailing her carb intake. Always a pleasure to catch up with IBD! -- If you liked this conversation, go back and listen to Episode 2 of Run With It for more Izzi action. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to all the new folks that have come into the fold from the Brass content! We're stoked to have you with us. This episode is one where clearly the crew was having too much fun taking shots at each other. This time around we decided to break down those ambiguous terms of luck, tactics, and strategy to try and have a defined conversation; Scott nailed us with yet another word game (and had us using the phrase Banana Balls multiple times), and then we get into a surprisingly contentious Table Shelf or Trade segment that finishes out with us just feeling old because 2021 shouldn't be five years ago. Thanks for checking this episode out and make sure to let us know what you think of everything by hitting us up on the comments or emailing us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com! Send a textAfter an enthusiastic recommendation from former guest, Cameron Scott, Andy Batt streamed into a late night EDT interview of Playwright's Spotlight, and, as always, what an insightful and inspirational conversation it was. In this interview, we discuss the origins and evolution of Andy's own playwriting and how it influenced the development of the MadLab theatre company and venue. We breakdown MadLab's themes and schedule, premises and rhythms as well as the market of Columbus, Ohio. We also discuss the the draw of original works, submission requirements, mistakes, details, process, and rejections, the importance of format (or lack there of) in addition to physical and dramatic action. We wrap our conversation with criticisms or love of the classics and absurdists, simplicity vs complexity, and advice for taking that "leap".Andy Batt started in theatre in 1997 with no experience, training, and have never even thought about doing a play before, and after a couple years of the acting bug, his best friend and mentor brought him over to MadLab, a non-profit organization where they started producing original work together. Now, almost 30 years later, he has done almost every job there is to do in theatre - from acting, directing, and playwriting. In 2009, he was able to shepherd MadLab through the process of buying its own space in downtown Columbus, OH. Each year they produce five to seven original productions including "Theatre Roulette", the longest-running shorts festival in Ohio. For tickets to MadLab's 2026 Theatre Roulette season visit - https://ci.ovationtix.com/35811To view the video format of this episode, visit the link below - https://youtu.be/g65kmGtSrI0Links to sites and resources mentioned in this episode - MadLab - https://www.madlab.net/index.htmlLenaea High School Theatre Festival - https://www.lenaea.org/Play Submissions Helper - https://playsubmissionshelper.com/Websites and socials for Andy Batt and MadLab Theatre -www.madlab.netFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/andy.batt.18IG - https://www.instagram.com/andypbatt/Websites and socials for James Elden, Punk Monkey Productions and Playwright's SpotlightPunk Monkey Productions - www.punkmonkeyproductions.comPLAY Noir -www.playnoir.comPLAY Noir Anthology –www.punkmonkeyproductions.com/contact.htmlJames Elden -Twitter - @jameseldensauerIG - @alakardrakeFB - fb.com/jameseldensauerPunk Monkey Productions and PLAY Noir - Twitter - @punkmonkeyprods - @playnoirla IG - @punkmonkeyprods - @playnoir_la FB - fb.com/playnoir - fb.com/punkmonkeyproductionsPlaywright's Spotlight -Twitter - @wrightlightpod IG - @playwrights_spotlightPlaywriting services through Los Angeles Collegiate Playwrights Festivalwww.losangelescollegiateplaywrightsfestival.com/services.htmlSupport the show
