Welcome to Weber Podcats, a podcast created and hosted by honors students at Weber State University. Our mission is to create an opportunity for students to enrich their portfolios while highlighting voices in our community. In our fourth season, Boundaries and Beyond, we’re talking all things boundaries: how to define and set them, what to do when they’re broken and how to push past the divides they create.     In our sixth and final episode we will be discussing how we re-connect through school. Our hosts, Addison and Brayden interviewed Ben Ferney, he is currently serving as Student Body President at Weber State University. Previously, he served as President of the Latter-day Saint Student Association (LDSSA) overseeing a council of 18 peers and prior to that was a chair over a major LDSSA committee. He also completed a fellowship for Humanitarian Experience for Youth (HEFY) and has led 76 youth on four humanitarian trips in Tonga and Peru. It was an honor having him on the Weber Podcats Podcast!

    In our fourth episode we will be discussing how we re-connect through Art. Our hosts, Addison and Brooklyn, interview Mike Hurst, who is an Ogden, Utah based lamp worker who specializes in pendants, marbles, Christmas ornaments, and more! He began working with glass in January of 1994 and since that time he has passionately studied and practiced the art of glassblowing. He is always striving to perfect his techniques and learn something new. In addition to lamp working, Mike has experience with glass fusing, glass etching and neon sign making. Mike has been featured in Glassline magazine and several local publications. He and his work were featured in the 2020 Lifetime Christmas movie "The Christmas Edition" starring Marie Osmond, Carly Hughes, Rob Mayes and Aloma Wright. He sells his work online, locally at The Local Artisan Collective (2371 Kiesel Ave Ogden, UT), at galleries and arts festivals. We really think you'll enjoy what he has to say, and it was an absolute honor having him on the Weber PodCats Podcast!

These issues have ranged from police brutality, to disparities in Covid-19 impacts and vaccine distribution. We hope that through these conversations we can become more capable of connecting with people of color in our own communities.
