This week's guest is droog Jordan Vogeney. We are continuing our "Summer of Kubrick" series. This week's film is: A Clockwork Orange. Dial F for Film is a podcast about the love of movies and host's -- J. Carlos Menjivar -- attempt to watch 1001 movies before he dies. A lover of lists and film, Carlos is a firm believer that all film lists should be tackled with one goal in mind: completion. Steven Jay Schneider's "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" is the subject of this podcast. Each episode features one guest and five movies from the massive list, compiled into themed lists by the host. Guests each week will select one category without any prior knowledge as to what films are included. Once a category is chosen, Carlos reveals the five films and the viewing begins. The guests then come on Dial F for Film via Zoom and the discussion begins.
Expect adult conversation (no swears though!) as I discuss 'Straw Dogs' (by Sam Peckinpah) and 'A Clockwork Orange' (by Stanley Kubrick), two dark, violent films released back in 1971.
Inspired by the release of 'Gloria Bell' with a new score by electronic musician Matthew Herbert, this week's programme with Matthew Sweet, looks back on the synth score, including the work of Jerry Goldsmith, John Carpenter, Carmine Coppola, Vangelis, Wendy Carlos, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and Daft Punk. The programme features music from 'The Illustrated Man'; 'A Clockwork Orange'; 'Dark Star'; 'Halloween'; 'The Thief'; 'Midnight Express'; Apocalypse Now'; 'Tron'; 'Chariots of Fire'; 'Tron Legacy" and 'The Social Network'. Matthew also talks to composer Matthew Herbert about his new synth based score for Gloria Bell.
This week, Dan and Nick went to the first live action Pokemon film, 'Detective Pikachu', to see if it lived up to the nostalgic hype! Then, they took the Time Machine to 1971 and watched the Stanley Kubrick classic, 'A Clockwork Orange'! Music by Ilya Marfin from Fugue https://icons8.com/music/author/ilya-... Episode 25 - 'Birdbox, Bandersnatch and Bullshit', brings our Heroes together for the first time in 2019! Celebrate the New Year with Aaron, James and Sam, as they come together for another 90 minute show dedicated to movies and film! This week our Heroes return to top form with reviews of 'Birdbox', 'Bandersnatch' and 'A Clockwork Orange' (obviously). They discuss ideas for a Fantastic Four reboot, discuss the latest movie news, and make poor jokes about hipsters coffee shops. That's right, its the show that one reviewer said 'Its the only podcast I listen to, I'm hooked' and that Aaron's mum said 'What's a podcast?' Its 'Sorry! You're In My Seat' - the podcast that hugs your ears. If it's your first time we promise be gentle. The concept is simple, our Heroes discuss films they've seen in the last 7 days, if any are worthy they make 'The Vault', but if a film stinks we place it firmly into 'Sam's Hole' - our little corner of Hell reserved for bad films and Adam Sandler. So grab a cup of Tea and an extra biscuit because its time to buckle up, the show is about to begin. New Year, New Me, New Logo... Thanks Fran. Don't forget to Subscribe, leave a review, and find us on Social Media ... unless your Adam Sandler.
November 14, 2018. Recorded during KXSC's 24 Hour Programming week, Nick was joined by friend and Kubrick fan, Matt Parker, to discuss one of the most talked about and strangest Stanley Kubrick films: A Clockwork Orange. What makes this episode especially unique is that Matt has actually seen this film before, making him the first guest to do so. However, don't let that deter you... if anything, Matt was able to supply necessary answers to questions Nick could not get on his own and through that, they were able to provide a deeper and more nuanced discussion of the film. In this episode, they discuss their immediate thoughts vs thoughts after the 5th time viewing, the purpose of the milk, the eyelashes, the phallic imagery, and use of "Singin' in the Rain," what was allowed in films at the time, things Matt noticed for the first time on this viewing, if watching violence in film influences violence in real life, what the message is of the film, if the film is trying to talk about innate vs. learned behavior, whether medicine helps "fix" you or if it just sedates your true self, how the character of Alex really isn't too different from the rest of society, the relationship between sex and violence, if violence is power, if the purpose of prison is to punish or to rehabilitate, the meaning of the title, and much, much more!
