Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay take time out from rowing crew to talk about David Fincher's masterpiece, 'The Social Network.' The Harvard-based movie reminds Bombay of his college years when he lived behind a sorority which led to a couple great late night meet ups, and one particularly embarrassing one. Then the guys dive into a blistering courtroom drama that is enthralling because it's filmed more like an action movie than a biopic/character study. Fincher's sepia-toned examination of the website that forever changed everyone's own social networks, is a tale overstuffed with entitled jerks. Headlined by Jesse Eisenberg's nebbish portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg, it's Andrew Garfield's turn as his lawyer'd up jilted ex partner; and friend, that steals the show. All of this takes place with the soothing score from Trent Reznor that pulsates throughout. You won't regret listening to this episode while you sit on someone's shoulders and call yourselves tall.

Dru Hammer's life sounds like a fairytale: raised in a humble American Christian home, a chance encounter on an airplane sees her married into the Hammer family dynasty, enjoying the bounty from an oil company, meeting royalty, running businesses and raising actor-son Armie Hammer who would become a Hollywood favourite after starring in 'The Social Network'.Things turned though, when Dru's 25-year marriage to Michael Hammer ended after serial infidelity, and more recently, when the ‘House of Hammer' documentary aired confronting accusations about Armie's alleged mistreatment of women and disturbing private messages they're said to have exchanged.   While Armie was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, Dru witnessed his career plummet, family relationships strain and the Hammer's having to answer for what the media called years of privilege.Dru's memoir 'Hammered', touches on the aftermath of that time, the complications of divorce and where faith fits when life's giving you a beating.  Listen to more from our Hope Podcasts collection at hopepodcasts.com.au. Fincher's back!  (David that is) As it is Fassbender...Michael Fassbender as his star.  The Oscar-nominated director of Seven, Fight Club, and The Social Network has returned towards directing his first full-on thriller in more than a decade.  (If we're not counting Gone Girl which is as much a social satire and domestic comedy/drama) Fincher is telling us a story (based on a French graphic novel of the same name) about an unnamed lone assassin (Fassbender) traversing across the globe, determined to go up the chain of another planned kill which affected some one close to him.  It's a lean, mean, chilly excursion into the world of a man who specializes in only one particular set of skills....and as he encounters others in this world, those skills are undoubtedly tested.   Co-stars included Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, and Tilda Swinton.  It's time to make a killing.....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

This week we talk about Elon Musk's Neuralink, the neurotechnology company that is developing implantable brain–machine interfaces (BMIs) in hope of revolutionising the way that we accomplish everyday tasks in the future as well as aiding those that have suffered injuries effecting their freedom of movement. The pros and cons are debated, including learning kung fu and how to fly helicopters in seconds like in the motion picture phenomenon that was The Matrix, to girls having to deal with an excess of nudes should the technology fail. Somehow in this debate, Bono, U2, The Social Network, Mr Freeze from Batman and Robin, MySpace Tom, Trent Reznor, Mr Potato Head, The Muppets and Dennis Rodman all become relevant to finding the answer. And of course, Jeff Bezos.

We're back. On this episode of the Deep Focus podcast, our guest is writer/director Aaron Sorkin known for writing "The Social Network," "Moneyball," "A Few Good Men," "The West Wing," and many more. The legendary screenwriter has shifted his focus to directing and returns with his second feature-length film following "Molly's Game." Originally a Steven Spielberg project, nine-some years in the making, the filmmaker eventually gave Sorkin his blessing to make the movie after seeing the accomplished "Molly's Game" with Jessica Chastain. In the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests last year and the civil unrest, and even the recent Capitol insurrection, "The Trial Of The Chicago 7," couldn't be more relevant today. It features an all-star cast and captures this moment of civil uprising and protest and the recent splintering in the Democratic party-- the so-called, "radical left," and the more conservative centrists. Sorkin talked about all this, working with Spielberg, his mentor William Goldman, his household of influential lawyers (he loves a courtroom drama), the mooted 'Social Network' sequel he'd love to write if David Fincher were game, and a little tease about his now-announced Lucille Ball project, which now stars Nicole Kidman. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message

Soundvenue Streamer udkommer ugentligt.

David Fincher og Aaron Sorkin var ude på at provokere, da de i 2010 sendte Facebook-filmen 'The Social Network' ud i verden med sloganet »You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies«.

On the occasion of his first foray into directing, the greatest screenwriter of the last 25 years — for screens small ('The West Wing') and big ('The Social Network') — opens up about his unlikely journey from actor/bartender to writer, dissects his strengths (dialogue) and weaknesses (story) and opens up about past controversies (drugs, the Sony hack) and criticsms (how he handles female characters). But first: THR reviews editor Jon Frosch joins Scott to discuss critics' feelings about 2017 films, including how he and other members of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association recently arrived at their picks for the 43rd LAFCA Awards. Welcome to episode 103, where we discuss the 1992 Peter Jackson movie 'Dead Alive'. Other movies this week include 'Paul', 'The Fourth Kind', and 'The Social Network'. Our Laid to Rest segment reflects back on the Anthony Hopkins excorcism movie 'The Rite'... what went wrong with this one? Opinions are welcome! We also make quick mentions of the Fox series Fringe and the HBO series 'Big love'. Thanks for joining us this week... Dead Alive: UR, 1992 Although it's easy to admire the maniacal glee of director Peter Jackson's bloodfest, Dead Alive is nonetheless intense and profoundly disturbing. When a Sumatran rat-monkey bites Lionel Cosgrove's mother, she's transformed into a zombie. She begins killing (and transforming) the entire town while Lionel races to keep things under control. Events culminate at a house party that turns into a blood-drenched zombie buffet. Yes, 38 hours!, Apple closes the iTunes store for iPhone users who don't want to share their location, Apple iPhone 4 Antennas...)
