Welcome to another episode of WorkTape, where we wrap up our retrospective on the eclectic music of 2014. In this final installment, we dive into some standout releases that pushed genre boundaries and left a lasting impression. From the unique grooves of Jungle's debut album to the heartfelt melodies of George Ezra's Wanted on Voyage, we explore how these records defined the year. We also reflect on the experimental sounds of Flying Lotus, the long-due return of the Pixies, and the retro-futuristic vibes of Damon Albarn's Everyday Robots. Join us as we conclude our look at this pivotal year in music.Episode Highlights:What makes Hiromi's "Alive" a standout in contemporary jazz? How did Flying Lotus' "You're Dead!" push the boundaries of experimental hip-hop and neo-soul?Did Lana Del Rey's "Ultraviolence" exceed the expectations set by her breakthrough album? Was Jungle's self-titled debut the definitive representation of 2010s modern funk and disco in indie music? How did George Ezra on Wanted on Voyage set himself apart in the folk-pop scene?Did the Pixies' "Indie Cindy" live up to the legacy of their earlier groundbreaking records?

It is a privilege to welcome accomplished singer-songwriter Robbie Fitzsimmons to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. He is no stranger to the music industry, as Robbie has spent a good portion of his career not only writing his own music but also working behind the scenes with some of the industry's biggest recording artists and producers. He is mentioned in songwriting by Paul Simon and has performed around the world at iconic music festivals, including Burning Man, Coachella, the Electric Daisy Carnival, and Glastonbury. Robbie also holds Platinum RIAA status for his work on Lana Del Rey's “Ultraviolence” and Guy Lalimberte (Cirque du Solei). He takes pride in extending his gifts into the world of other artists in multiple musical genres. His songwriting is deeply personal, and as an LGBTQ artist living with bipolar disorder, each production comes from a place that is genuinely authentic and soulful. Robbie Fitzsimmons believes that vulnerability transcends conversation and can be heard, felt, and understood through each song he creates. His new LP Blue Meets Orange will be released this year, and in 2023, he released the highly praised EP The Mountain That Turned Upside Down. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Robbie Fitzsimmons spoke about performing at Burning Man, working with Lana Del Rey, and the stories behind his songs.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

Actually okay timing here with Drake having just released a new album. Matt won't "get" that one just like he doesn't "get" Take Care...or Lana Del Ray's Ultraviolence or Father John Misty's Pure Comedy. Decade defining artists of the 2010s all, and unequivocally absent from any of Matt's personal playlists or rankings. Listen to Matt and Tim embrace their inner Abe Simpson as they ponder how they once had "it" but then "it" changed under their feet.
Often credited with single-handedly reviving the lost art of the concert poster, his creative career rose largely out of his enthusiasm for Austin's growing underground punk rock scene in the early eighties. In 1981, he began designing and posting black and white flyers for friends' bands on telephone poles. His reputation quickly grew as an artist whose work was graphically compelling and culturally gripping. An entirely self-taught artist, Kozik eventually transitioned into producing large, colorful silkscreen concert posters, which found international success. He has created artwork for musicians such as Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, The White Stripes, The Beastie Boys, Green Day, Neil Young and Nirvana. In the mid-nineties he directed several music videos, including Soundgarden's “Pretty Noose”. In 1993, he moved to San Francisco. Within two years he had started his own record label, Man's Ruin Records. The majority of his posters and album art during this era were hand silkscreened and numbered at his studio. During this time he designed and released over 200 singles and full-length albums including a record by the Sex Pistols and the first Queens of the Stone Age single. In 2001, Kozik closed Man's Ruin to devote himself full time to fine art, design and the newly emerging art toy movement. He served as the Chief Creative Officer of kidrobot to produce vinyl toys including many versions of his iconic Labbit character. He designed over 500 different limited edition figures. Kozik also designed products and campaigns for a spectrum of major media and lifestyle brands including a pair of NikeSB Dunk Quickstrike sneakers, a special edition Swatch watch, the 2007 Spike TV Video Games Award trophy, and an “Absolut Kozik” print ad. In addition to his outside clients, 2007 saw him launch his own brand, Ultraviolence. Under this imprint, Kozik produces limited edition art objects in vinyl, fiberglass, bronze and Limoges porcelain that are often more complex in content and larger in scale than his other vinyl toys. Kozik's work has been exhibited in over 40 group shows and 35 one-man gallery exhibits worldwide. His impact as the godfather of lowbrow art will live on through the legacy of his signature creations.

Welcome to Get In The Garage, the music podcast FOR MUSIC LOVERS! Every week, we have the latest and greatest in Music News, Album Reviews, Music Culture, and much, much more!
Lana Del Rey is known for writing heart-wrenching, yearning, tortured songs about love. So who is inspiring these melancholy tunes?? If you go back to Lana's “Born to Die” and “Ultraviolence” days, she was with the Scottish musician Barrie-James O'Neill for three years. Lana and Barrie were like a modern-day Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, making songs and homemade music videos together. And the darkness Lana saw in herself, she saw in Barrie too. But eventually it became too dark for even her, and she blindsided Barrie at the end of their relationship. Kel and Mel have been fans of Lana for YEARS (even made a homemade “Dark Paradise” video back in high school). Let us take you through Lana's song catalog as we reminisce on her “Living Legend” Barrie. ***** This is a teaser for a bonus episode. You can listen to it in full on Patreon! Hey, Q-Balls!We're back this week with a movie I swore I'd never watch again and a movie I have watched more times than I can count: A CLOCKWORK ORANGE & THE PARALLAX VIEW. We talk a whole lot about A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and I talk a little bit about THE PARALLAX VIEW.After a long Christina & Quinn Chat wherein we discuss Quinn's birthday, favorite childhood authors, ouija boards, meditation, progress vs. perfection, midlife and quarter-life crises, feeling jealous of young, talented people, and the differences in our personalities, we do get into it (Skip to minute 23:53 if you want to get right to the movies).Content Warning for A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. Violence including sexual violence. There are two sexual assaults depicted in the movie and we talk about knowing your limits when it comes to content vs. condemning art if you bail on it.We had a nice ramble about the plot, Malcolm MacDowell's face, Kubrick's calling cards and techniques, low-budget techniques used in the film, the design and costuming, and the many misuses of power demonstrated in the film.Of course, we have lots of Trivia and Letterboxd goodness! Thanks, for listening, WoHos & Q-Balls!Stuff we spoke about on the podcast:Anne of Green Gables IS on Scribd.com. I'm downloading it now!Paul Zindel's book WAS called The Undertaker's Gone Bananas (but is NOT on Scribd.com).According to an Interview at The Washington Post, Joseph Heller said, "The way 'Catch-22' began is that I'd just turned 30, and one day I decided maybe I was ready to write a novel".https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1984/10/08/catching-up-with-joseph-heller/34a76576-696f-415b-b1d7-efb0c398f065The Evolution of Horror covers THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT & A CLOCKWORK ORANGEApple or SpotifyI couldn't find any specific artist who used mouths for eyes. Apparently, it is an Instagram filter. Who knew? I didn't.A Clockwork Orange GlossaryOf course, I meant that obscure indie film by a guy named Quentin Tarantino? RESERVOIR DOGS. (Cue rolling eyeball emoji). At time marker 1:50:13 (I KNOW!), I talk about THE PARALLAX VIEW, a film that, for me, has everything: Fantastic cinematography, political intrigue, a paranoid rage-filled, and down-on-his-luck investigative reporter with luxurious '70's hair, an assassination plot, an amazing cast including a glorified cameo by Paula Prentiss, shadows, surveillance/voyeurism, a homophobic small town sheriff, an awkward joke from a pretty woman, and connections (Get in touch and tell me how solid you think they are) to KILL LIST and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. I hope you will give this film your time. It holds a special place in my heart. We discussed THE KILLING on Episode 37. We discussed KILL LIST on Episode 93.Are you still reading this, You Sweet WoHo? Bless Your Heart. We love that for you!J/K, We really do love you! Thanks for tuning in to this random thought on violence in our programming! A thought came to mind while thinking of the clockwork orange and on my own childhood watching the looney tunes and merrie melodies cartoons. Does all the violence in our programming really translate to a violent society, or like in A clockwork orange, does it satisfy us or even become too much for many of us to engage in after being spoon fed vicarious violence all of our young lives?! It seems like overall most of the kids who wind up watching cartoon and film violence grow into a place of depression and complacency. So the programming may be achieving more of the desired effect that we realize... just a thought ,but what do you see and think? Go check out the Tavistock institute episode that Ryan Dean and I did a while back! It'll give you the low down on the Tavistock institute where the ideas of social engineering may have been partially birthed! #mindcontrol #socialengineering #sexandviolence #thetvmademedoit --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/red-thread-podcast/message
Our director for this month is the mercurial Sam Peckinpah (1925-1984), who left an indelible mark on American television and cinema over a 30-year career. Despite his many clashes with Hollywood studio brass (and often his own crew) and his early passing at the age of 59, Peckinpah distinguished himself with a singular vision of the Old West and his graphic depictions of violence in films like The Wild Bunch, Straw Dogs, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid, and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. We'll revisit these films and what the man known as "Bloody Sam" sought to demonstrate with his often polarizing on-screen violence. Listen, like, subscribe, and don't forget to leave a rating or review wherever you get your podcasts. Kisses many.
