In this episode, I share some thoughts around the idea that God is sometimes so done with things we do or think. As we approach the future, it’s time to think about what to leave behind, what to retool and what to make new. 0:42 God is NOT done with… Psalm 34:8 Romans 8:28 (CSB) 1 John 4:8 Lamentations 3:22-23 (CSB) Romans 2:4 (CSB) Psalm 107:2 John 10:27 (AMP) Psalm 86:7 (CSB) 3:19 Am I surrendered? Forward and Onward - Triumphing over trials Great faith must have great trials. - Spurgeon by Pastor George Lehman Just as with the COVID-19 pandemic people are recommended to take a Vaccine to recover from the virus so too we need the word to make us able to overcome the Trials and troubles we face. Without a regular shot of the Word in our hearts, we will not recover. When the plaque of trials and troubles hit, only those who are applying the vaccine of the word of God to their lives will triumph over trials. It’s in the application not the information of the word that we will succeed. I must take it and make it my own. Question: Do the unsaved and ungodly have trials? Yes. But the trials of a child of God works for our benefit and advantage. The truth is as long as we are alive we will have trials in our lives. God doesn’t wrap His children in cotton wool, so we’ll never experience troubles and trials. NB! Trials teach us what we are. -Spurgeon Do you want to know how much you’ve grown in your spiritual life, then, just watch how you react in times of Trouble and difficulties, what comes out of your mouth? Jesus gave us words of caution and comfort. John 16:33 (Amp) - I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.] A death paid for an overwhelming victory. Romans 8:37 (LB) - But despite all this, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us. God’s word shows us what we need, to be triumphant in trials. James 1:1-5 (Amp) - James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered abroad [among the Gentiles in the dispersion]: Greetings (rejoice)! Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing. If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. God doesn’t bring the trials on us. God’s intention is to bring us through the trials to a place of victory and spiritual maturity. God wants us to come to a place of wholeness, to be content and lack nothing. God wants to give us wisdom to walk victoriously so that we can be triumphant in trials. Your trial and hardship and difficulty are for your benefit for this life and for the life to come. There are 3 effective forces working together during trials. #1 Respond in FAITH to the trial. James 1:3 (NLT) - “… your faith is tested.” Also read Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) – And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Firm faith in God will help to receive the manifestation of what you need. See your trial as an advantage, NOT an ENEMY: James 1:6-8 (Amp) - Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord, [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides]. Faith and trust in God will help prevent deception of thinking God is responsible for the bad situation. How many people blame God? James 1:13-16 (Amp) - Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by [what is] evil and He Himself tempts no one. But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions). Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death. Do not be misled, my beloved brethren. It’s not the trials that make us strong. It’s how we respond to them. Trials teach us what we are. Romans 5:3 (Amp) - Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. And endurance (fortitude*) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation. *fortitude = courage in pain and difficulty It’s not the trial that produces patience, but the testing of your faith. #2 Practice PATIENCE in the trial. James 1:3 (NLT) - “… your endurance has a chance to grow.” What is patience? It is a quality of a steady persistence when met with obstacles, challenges, trials, and discouragement. It’s the tenacity with which your faith holds out. Patience is endurance. It is the courage not to give up (to be relentless). Patience is enduring with calmness without murmuring. It’s all about longsuffering. The scriptures encourage us to be patient in trials, until the breakthrough comes. Hebrews 10:36 (Amp) - For you have need of steadfast patience and endurance, so that you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God and thus receive and carry away (and enjoy to the full) what is promised. Luke 8:15 (Amp) - But as for the (seed) in the good soil, these are (the people) who hearing the word, hold it fast in a just (noble virtuous) and worthy heart and steadily bring forth fruit with patience. Even if you feel like a permanent resident in God’s waiting room, be patient. God is at work. Isaiah 40:31 (Amp) - But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. #3 Maintain your JOY during the trial. James 1:2 (NLT) - Consider it an opportunity for great JOY. Joy is a co-worker with patience. You need to keep on rejoicing during a trial. Colossians 1:11 (Amp) - [We pray] that you may be invigorated [opgewek] and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance [self control]) with joy, The truth is, if you lose joy, you lose your power. Nehemiah 8:10 (Amp) - The joy of the Lord is your STRENGTH and stronghold. The Psalmist says, “In your presence is fullness of joy”. Joy brings victory when it seems that everything is falling apart. Habakkuk 3:17-19 (Amp) - Though the fig tree does not blossom and there is no fruit on the vines, [though] the product of the olive fails and the fields yield no food, though the flock is cut off from the fold and there are no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation! The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds' feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]! For the Chief Musician; with my stringed instruments. Don’t lose your joy when you are going through trials. Do not just rejoice when the trial is over. Joy must be a constant [aanhoudend] in our lives and should not be conditional. James 1:2 (NIV) - Consider it pure JOY my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds. If you are willing to trust God to help you to: let your faith increase, let your endurance develop and let your joy overflow… you’ll live a relentless victorious life in spite of the trials. You’ll triumph in your trials and over your trials. - o 0 o -

BLANKS Do you have self-imposed contingencies to really believe God? Do you first require a scientific understanding, a profound experience, an undeniable miracle, to feel a certain way, to enjoy a series of unobstructed successes, or _______ ? Whatever you require to be put in the BLANK as the precursor to your faith elevates the BLANK as a supreme idol. These stipulated BLANKS will disrupt the depths of your heart, torment the narratives of your mind and create chaos in your closeness to God. Because trust is never about the BLANK first; it’s about the choice to believe first. God cares about BLANKS, but only after He sits alone on the throne of your heart. History is filled with the stories of people who were stuck as slaves to BLANKS; that is until they broke allegiance to the BLANK to trust God completely. Then real encounters with God, and even miracles happened! If you are stuck, or know someone who is, join us for a powerful, insightful and encouraging series called BLANKS. TODAY’S EPISODE BIG QUESTION What are the BLANKS You REQUIRE BEFORE you BELIEVE? BIG IDEA Whatever you REQUIRE FIRST – the BLANK – Reveals where your REAL DEVOTION LIES! JOHN 20:24-29 NKJV Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he [Thomas] said to them, "UNLESS I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I WILL NOT BELIEVE." 26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!" 27 Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand [here], and put [it] into My side. DO NOT BE UNBELIEVING, BUT BELIEVING." 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. BLESSED [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed." FIRST? YOU DO NOT HAVE TO… SEE FIRST UNDERSTAND FIRST VERIFY SCIENCE FIRST HAVE THE AFFIRMATION OF YOUR GROUP FIRST SIMPLY CHOOSE GOD FIRST! PROVERBS 3:5 NKJV [Solomon said] TRUST in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING. HEBREWS 11:1 AMPC Now FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the PROOF OF THINGS [WE] DO NOT SEE and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is NOT REVEALED TO THE SENSES]. … 3 By FAITH we UNDERSTAND… FAITH is the ACCESS POINT to greater UNDERSTANDING and WISDOM! NATURAL UNDERSTANDING and NATURAL WISDOM IS NOT the ACCESS POINT to GREATER FAITH! PSALM 111:10 NKJV [The Psalmist said] The FEAR of the LORD [is] the BEGINNING OF WISDOM; a GOOD UNDERSTANDING have all those who DO [His commandments]. PROVERBS 9:10 NKJV [Solomon said] The FEAR of the LORD [is] the BEGINNING OF WISDOM, and the KNOWLEDGE of the Holy One [is] UNDERSTANDING. PSALM 119:104-105 NKJV [The Psalmist said] THROUGH YOUR PRECEPTS I get UNDERSTANDING; … 105 Your word [is] a LAMP to my feet and a LIGHT to my path. PSALM 119:130 NKJV [The Psalmist said] The entrance of YOUR WORDS gives LIGHT; It gives UNDERSTANDING to the SIMPLE. JAMES 3:15 AMP [James said] This [superficial] WISDOM is NOT that which comes down FROM ABOVE, but is EARTHLY (secular), natural (SENSUAL) (unspiritual), even DEMONIC. 1 CORINTHIANS 2:7, 9-10, 13-14 NKJV [Paul said] But we speak the WISDOM OF GOD in a mystery, the hidden [wisdom] which God ordained before the ages for our glory, ... 9 But as it is written: "EYE has not seen, nor EAR heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 10 But GOD HAS REVEALED [them] to us through His SPIRIT. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. ... 13 These things we also speak, not in words which MAN'S WISDOM teaches but which the HOLY SPIRIT TEACHES, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the NATURAL MAN does not RECEIVE the things of the Spirit of God, for they are FOOLISHNESS to him; NOR CAN HE KNOW [THEM], because they are SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.
