I had Howard Post on the podcast today. We're talking about his new show "From Above" which opens on October 22nd  here at Medicine Man Gallery in Tucson and It'll run through the first couple of weeks in November. Howard is just such an interesting guy. I love his work and his dedication to being an artist. I've represented him for 25 years and he has an amazing story. I mean he's a real rodeo guy. Howard was all-around rodeo champion in high school, he competed in college and even went on to compete on the pro circuit. The thing is, he always wanted to be an artist. It wasn't really seen as something you do if you are in the rodeo world, and since his dad owned a feed store here in Tucson there wasn't a great deal of support behind Howard making it as a painter.So, this podcast is just an interesting look back at Howard's life, our relationship over the last 25 years, as well as his new show "From Above" which is all about Howard's take on the West from the signature aerial perspective that he's known for. It's a really interesting body of work that he's done for us and I can't wait for the opening on October 22, 2022.Again, he's an interesting guy and I really enjoy having Howard as both an artist I represent and a friend. For episode 66, we do a song released in early 67 from Q65 – "From Above" (3:22) An angelic rock ballad from some ugly dudes from Holland! A lot of discussion of the enigmatic lyrics  – with its depiction of a reversal of fortunes in a love relationship – and especially the use of the word “quarrelly.” A beautiful, diaphanous, shimmering feedback solo really sends this song soaring into the heavens and sends Erik to the madhouse trying to figure out how it was made (Weldon suggests God was in the studio). The second in the heavenly chorus comes from The Tell Tale Hearts (1:01:46).  In 1984, these San Diegans stuck on some sick fuzz, a cool, pulsating organ , along with the simultaneously snotty and tender vocals of Ray Brandes to make this version  a candidate for being the chosen one.  Two years later, the Mystic Eyes released their own version of this sacred hymn (1:21:34)  The band from Buffalo with the legendary Bernie Kugel adds some jangly arpeggios and subtracts the lyrical reversal (and revises the important “q” word). Is it ok to change scripture like this? They all move in mysterious ways!
