Love. God's love. Hosea's love. Her lover's "love." Israel's love. Same word. Very different meanings. That's the point. Because not everything you call love… actually is. God loves Israel with covenant commitment. Faithful. Steady. Unchanging. Israel "loves" something very different. "Other gods… and raisin cakes." That sounds almost harmless—until you understand what it represents. But these weren't just snacks. They were tied to pagan worship. Sensual rituals. Fertility practices. Indulgence wrapped in religion. This was pleasure disguised as devotion. And Israel loved it. That's the contrast. God's love gives. Israel's "love" consumes. God's love is faithful.
