In a world filled with trouble, we're reminded of the promise of hope that has been shown to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and one day will fully be present among us. At the Lord's table we're reminded pain and promise are odd dance partners, but we're called to presently live in this tension. For whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord's death (pain, death and sorrow in the human experience) until he comes (hope and promise). We briefly explore two questions. What is the role of the Holy Spirit today? It may surprise you that the Holy Spirit is not (as so many people mistakenly believe) all about the Holy Spirit! Then, what is the "gift of the Holy Spirit" of which Peter spoke in Acts 2:38? If we let the context inform us, the answer may surprise you as well.Scriptures: John 16:7-15; Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:1-8; Acts 2:12-18; Acts 2:22-39
In Part 3 of our He Is series, we explore how Jesus restores through the life of Peter. Despite failure, denial, and regret, Peter's story reveals that Jesus doesn't abandon us in our lowest moments—He meets us there to restore, redeem, and call us forward. This message reminds us that no mistake is too great, no past too broken, and no person too far gone for the restoring power of Jesus. If you've ever felt disqualified, this sermon is an invitation to encounter the grace that reverses the curse and restores your purpose.Scriptures:John 21:1-19Matthew 26:33-35, 69-75Luke 5:1-11John 18:15-16Mark 16:7Links:calvarymd.comcalvarymd.com/givefacebook.com/calvaryfrederick
Sometimes what feels like the end is where God begins something new.In this Easter message, John Gunter explores the events of John chapter 20 and the first moments after the resurrection. Mary Magdalene arrives at the tomb expecting to grieve, not to celebrate. The disciples struggle to understand what they are seeing. Nothing makes sense at first.Yet everything changes when Jesus speaks her name. This sermon highlights how the resurrection does more than prove a moment in history. It transforms what is possible in our lives today. Because Jesus is alive, forgiveness is real, hope is alive, and change is possible. Even in moments of confusion, grief, or doubt, God is still at work.Key Themes: God works through unexpected outcomes Faith is not just knowing about Jesus but knowing He knows you The resurrection is the foundation of real hope Because Jesus lives, change is still possible
In today's sermon Nicodemus shows us a powerful progression of faith. He was curious—wondering if Jesus could really be who He claimed to be. He was cautious—quietly wrestling with whether Jesus was truly worth following. But here, he becomes courageous—publicly honoring Jesus in His death, risking his reputation and everything he had. It's a journey we all walk: Is He true? Is He worth it? And ultimately, what more could I want than Him? Scriptures: John 19: 38-42
In today's message from John 11, we explore a moment that reveals Jesus not just as the giver of resurrection but as the resurrection Himself. He lets the finality of death settle in so God's glory can be unmistakable. We then see Him enter fully into human grief, He weeps, stands with the mourners, and walks toward the tomb showing a God who is present in suffering. Scriptures: John 11v1-44

Following Jesus was never meant to stop at belief. It was always meant to move into mission. In this closing sermon of the Encounters with Christ series, John Gunter explores what happens after people meet Jesus. Looking at John 20 and Luke 24, we find disciples hiding behind locked doors, weighed down by fear and uncertainty. We also find travelers on the road to Emmaus, disappointed that life had not gone as they had hoped.Into both stories, Jesus comes near.He speaks peace before they fix their fear. He walks with them before they understand what He is doing. Then He sends them out with purpose and with the gift of the Holy Spirit. This message calls us to live as people who are not just changed, but sent.Key Themes:Jesus meets us in fear and uncertaintyPeace comes before clarityDisappointment does not mean God is absentThose who encounter Jesus are sent into the world with purpose

Our Founding Pastor, Willie George, continues week eleven of our teaching series, Breakthrough. The Holy Spirit was given as our Helper, our divine guarantee, that God has placed within us. Through Him, we step into a life marked by wisdom, love, and supernatural might to do what God has called us to do. As we walk in the love of God, the power of God can freely work in and through us. In this message, Pastor Willie explores the following Scriptures: John 14:16 KJV 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NKJV 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 KJV 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Ephesians 1:15-17 KJV 15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him... Proverbs 4:7 KJV 7 Wisdom is the principal thing... Isaiah 37:3 ESV 3 "...children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth." Ephesians 3:14-16 KJV 14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; Judges 13:25 NIV 25 and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol. Ephesians 3:16-19 KJV 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Matthew 9:35-36 KJV 35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching... preaching..., and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. – Next Steps Looking to take a next step? The word "evangelism" conjures up pictures of campaigns and door knocking. But one of the easiest and still effective means of reaching people with the gospel is to invite them to worship. Jesus invited people to follow Him. When he had found the Messiah, Philip encouraged Nathanael to "Come and see." He did, and the rest is history.Scriptures: John 1:43-44; John 1:45-49; 1 Corinthians 14:23-25

Shame tells you that you are unworthy. Jesus tells you to stand up and walk free.In this message, John Gunter explores the encounter between Jesus and the woman caught in adultery. Publicly exposed and facing condemnation, she stands in the center of accusation. The religious leaders demand judgment. Jesus responds with wisdom, truth, and mercy. This sermon addresses the weight of shame and the danger of selective judgment. While Scripture is clear about sin, it is equally clear about grace. Jesus does not ignore wrongdoing, but He refuses to weaponize it. Instead, He offers forgiveness and calls us into a transformed life.Key Themes:The hypocrisy of selective outrageThe difference between condemnation and convictionThe freedom found in Christ's mercyLiving transformed instead of trapped in shame

Being religious is not the same as being transformed. In this message, John Gunter explores the encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus in John chapter 3. Nicodemus represents the curious, the moral, and the spiritually serious. Yet Jesus confronts him with a truth that cuts through effort and heritage. Unless one is born from above, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.This sermon reminds us that salvation is not inherited, achieved, or reasoned into existence. It is received. God gives a new heart. The Spirit produces life. The invitation is not to control the process but to surrender to it.Key Themes:The difference between curiosity and transformationThe limits of religious effortThe promise of a new heart and new SpiritTrusting God rather than trusting our own systems
For our first Holy Spirit Fire Conference sessions, Pastor Alex reminded us that we are designed for the presence of God. We were created to be in God's presence. Once man fell and were removed from God's presence, we began to die. Knowledge alone doesn't transform us, encountering Him does. The people in the Bible knew the laws, heard about Jesus' teachings, but once they sat with Him, they were changed. Many people come to church to hear something, when God is inviting us to experience Him. We thrive in HIs presence. That's where everything comes alive. God will meet with those who pursue His presence. The question is, do you desire it? Life sometimes pauses. Church may cancel. Plans shift. But God does not.In this Week 4 message from the Not Alone series, John Gunter delivers a timely reminder from his office during a winter storm. Drawing from passages like John 14, Romans 8, and Psalm 46, this sermon encourages listeners to trust in the presence of God when things feel uncertain, disconnected, or overwhelming. Even in seasons of isolation, God is still faithful, still close, and still working in our lives.Key Points:God's promises do not pause with our circumstancesThe Spirit intercedes for us even when we cannot find the wordsGod's presence gives us peace, even when outcomes are uncertainWe are never abandoned, never alone
The heart of following Jesus isn't rules or religious duty. It's relationship. We're not asking, "What do I have to do to stay in line?" We're asking, "Who do I get to love?" In John 15:12–17, Jesus invites us to live from love, not obligation—loving others as a response to being loved by Him. Scriptures: John 15:12-17
In this message, Pastor Josh continues the Come and See series by walking through John 1:6–32 and the powerful witness of John the Baptist.John wasn't the light—but he was sent to bear witness to the light. Through John's identity, purpose, and proclamation, we learn what it means to prepare the way for Jesus today. This message explores:Knowing who you are—and who you are notPreparing the way so others can encounter JesusWhy John declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God”How Jesus fulfills Passover, sacrifice, and atonementWhy Jesus takes away sin—not just sinsWhen we know our identity, embrace our purpose, and point to the Lamb, others are invited to see Jesus clearly.

Pastor Alex reminded us the abundant life Jesus promised isn't about comfort, money, or an easy road, it's an abundant, spiritual life. Scripture calls it zoe: life that comes from the Spirit, and perissos: an extraordinary, overflowing life that lacks nothing spiritually. Jesus is the river of life, and the Holy Spirit is the One who brings that life to us and through us. We are called to be a fountain of living water for others. When we experience a blockage of the Spirit flowing in our lives, we can restore it with believing all that Jesus said, not just part of it. Repent, ask, and come back to His presence. He is ready to fill you again. Let the river flow. Scriptures: John 10:10 John 6:63 John 7:37–39 Psalm 1:3 Jeremiah 17:8 Isaiah 44:3; 66:12 Isaiah 59:2 Proverbs 28:13 Mark 11:25 Hebrews 12:15 James 4:6 John 15:4 Acts 5:32 Revelation 22:17 Acts 3:19 Luke 11:13 Ephesians 5:18
Friendship with Jesus means He is present with us in every moment, meeting us in exactly the way we need—not distant or conditional, but constant and faithful. Where we often get it wrong is reducing that friendship to feelings or emotional highs, when real friendship with Jesus is built on trust and surrender. True friendship with Jesus always leads to transformation, shaping who we are, how we live, and how we love. Scriptures: John 15: 12-17
Your reminder of your true source of peace- doesn't come from a store and never has. Jesus is the way to never thirst. Presence is the way. It is the gateway. Welcome Back! We are hitting it off with a short series on fear.In this episode, we learn some things about fear: that there is the bad kind of fear and there is the good kind. Tackling the bad kind, we learn that it proves to hinder God's plan for one's life. If dwelt upon, it tends to stagnate one's destiny. We learn that even in scripture, fear is quite a common reaction. And God's response to this tendency of ours is no. We need God to break the cycle that fear generates in our lives, because beyond it is a wealth of God's manifested grace, honour and fulfillment. As always, be transformed as you listen!Scriptures : John 3:16 | Joshua 1:1-2, 1:8 | Exodus 17:10 | Judges 6:1-15-------------------------Subscribe and share this podcast with your family and friends.Have questions? In a world that celebrates individuality and diversity, Jesus calls His followers to something far greater — UNITY. Our flesh craves independence and self-sufficiency, but true purpose and power are only found when we unite with the Body of Christ. In this powerful message, Pastor John exposes how modern Christianity has drifted toward comfort, criticism, and isolation — and calls believers back to the heart of Jesus' prayer in John 17, “that they may be one as We are one.” Unity is not about losing your identity — it's about using your unique gifts to serve a greater purpose. The Church is not a crowd; it's a tribe. It's a body made of many parts, moving together to do what Christ did — proclaim freedom, bring healing, and reveal the love of God to the world.

Description: Living in a world where the battle between good and evil is acknowledged both culturally and personally, we face the challenge of sin in our lives. On this week's episode of the Alex McFarland Show, Alex breaks down the scripture of John, chapter 3. The Bible is very clear that if we want to go to heaven, if we want to be with God in eternity, we must be born again. This episode is a sobering yet encouraging reminder that simply calling ourselves “Christian” won't save us.
