The True Wisdom of God - Part 1 - 1 Corinthians 2:6-8
Man left to his own imagination and "wisdom" explains that "the origin of everything is the result of random chance." In contrast the wisdom of God is displayed in His creation, and revealed in His Word. We discuss what "Wisdom" says in Proverbs chapter 8.
THE WISDOM OF GOD
Sermon Feb 16, 2025
Join us for today's Spirit-filled broadcast as we dive into 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, "But to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” – 1 Corinthians 1:24In today's study of 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, we explore how God's wisdom defies human expectations. While the world seeks intellectual reasoning and philosophical wisdom, the cross of Christ is considered foolishness to those who rely on human understanding. Yet, it is the power of God for salvation!Key Teaching Points:Why the cross appears foolish to the world (1 Corinthians 1:18-25)How God uses the weak to shame the strong (1 Corinthians 1:26-31)Old Testament prophecy in Isaiah 53:3 – The Messiah's suffering was a mystery to Israel, just as the cross is a mystery to the world today.1 Samuel 16:7 – God looks at the heart, not outward appearance; His wisdom is beyond human reasoning.

Have you ever paused to consider what it means to worship a God who is infinitely wise? His wisdom is not like ours—limited, flawed, or bound by time. His wisdom is eternal, universal, and incomprehensible. It is a wisdom that designed the heavens, ordered the earth, and set the boundaries of the seas (Proverbs 3:19). It is a wisdom that governs the rise and fall of nations, the movement of the stars, and the beating of your very heart. But more than the grand works of creation, consider this: God's wisdom reached into the abyss of human sin and, through the foolishness of the cross, made a way for sinners like us to be reconciled to Him (1 Corinthians 1:21 - For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe). Think about it—while we were lost, blind, and running headlong into destruction, God's wisdom wove a plan of redemption so perfect, so profound, that even the angels marvel at it (Ephesians 3:10). And yet, how often do we lean on our own understanding, dismissing His perfect wisdom for the fleeting counsel of man? How often do we measure God's ways by our standards, doubting His goodness when life's path twists and turns? The wisdom of God is not a mere theological concept; it is the foundation of our faith, the comfort of our trials, and the guiding light for our lives.
From Genesis to Revelation, God's wisdom is on display. Paul summed it up in Romans 11:33 by saying, “Oh, the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” Each of us face trials and challenges that we can't understand. When we need confidence in God's plans for us, considering His perfect work gives us peace. In this message, Dr. Stanley walks with us through the events of the Christmas story, where Scripture affirms how every detail of the Messiah's arrival was wisely and meticulously fulfilled by God. Perhaps you will see yourself at the very heart of that story, because it was part of the Father's plan to redeem you through the life and sacrifice of His Son. Whatever circumstances you face, you can trust your heavenly Father to direct your life with loving attention and care. After all, He does all things wisely and well. Jaggy and I thank you for tuning in and SHARING!
This evening's GO Conference speaker is Dr. Matt Bennett, Associate Professor of Missions and Theology at Cedarville University. Dr. Bennett teaches from Ephesians 3 that God's purposes are realized in Christ, God's wisdom is revealed through the church, and God's church has been released into His world.

Proverbs 8 invites us to seek and embrace God's wisdom, which is more than just knowledge—it's the practical application of God's will in our lives. This wisdom is accessible to all who genuinely seek it and is more valuable than any material wealth. The fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom, guiding us to love what God loves and hate what He hates. Embracing God's wisdom leads to righteous living and positive influence in our communities.

QUOTES FOR REFLECTION “Now it is not sufficient for anyone, and does him no good to recognize God in his glory and majesty, unless he recognizes him in the shame and humility of the cross.”~Martin Luther, 16th century German theologian and reformer “For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”~1 Corinthians 2:2 “If thou hast but a spark of true faith in Jesus Christ, it is better than a whole volcano full of worldly wisdom.”~Charles Spurgeon, 19th century British Preacher “O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above to bear it to dark Calvary.”~“The Old Rugged Cross” by George BennardSERMON PASSAGEProverbs 3:7, Proverbs 16:2, 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 (ESV)Proverbs 37 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. Proverbs 162 All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit. 1 Corinthians 1 18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” 20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
Dan digs into an old tradition that takes Christians up to Christmas and is the origin of our hymn "O Come O Come Emmanuel."
Again. As the people of God, we are called to live very differently. And what makes us to live differently? The truth of God. We can say that differently, the wisdom of God, the purposes of God. And when we look to his word, we will find knowledge and understanding and wisdom that that the world cannot receive, but because we have been born again, regenerated, that we are that new creation, we can take the truth of God and apply it to Our life and even greater works we will do because we have trusted in our Lord and Savior. Fr. Mike highlights how God fights as a heavenly ally with the people of Israel in 2 Maccabees 11, and encourages us to actively fight alongside God in our daily battles. In our reading of Wisdom, Father points out how God corrects us little by little so we can learn to trust him. Today's readings are 2 Maccabees 11, Wisdom 11-12, and Proverbs 25:8-10. The good news is that God himself has decreed a way to satisfy the demands of his justice without condemning the whole human race.
