Spinning Plates welcomes New Yorker DJ Spider onto its roster to kick off 2022 with his ‘Enter The Void' EP, backed by a remix from Phil Moffa aka The Butcha. Rob Hampton, better known to most as DJ Spider, has been releasing his twisted take on Techno and experimental electronica for over a decade on the likes of The Trilogy Tapes, REKIDS, Vanguard Sound! and Berceuse Heroique as well as his and Dakini's own Plan B Recordings and its sub-labels BTU and Sublevel Sounds. Here he joins the roster of Spinning Plates, the London-based label that's established itself as a go to purveyor for leftfield leaning Techno, Electro and more. ‘Incineration Of Years And Truth', our premiere for today, completes the EP, edging things into a dubby territory courtesy of smooth chord sequences, spiraling echoes and bumpy, reduced drums. DJ SPIDER: This record is dedicated to my good friend Mike Huckaby. He planned on remixing "Incineration of Years and Truth" back when I originally made it in 2011, but we never got around to actually making that happen. I'm also honored to have my other close friend Phil Moffa on remix duties. There were many sessions in Phil's studio (Butcha Sound Studio, NYC) where we used to jam with Mike whenever he would come to New York to DJ or hang out. We used to play with synthesizers for hours. We were all good friends and it was perfect to have Phil on this record as well! Mike taught and inspired us to have fun with making music and push ourselves to be the best that we can be. We will love him forever. https://soundcloud.com/djspidernyc https://www.facebook.com/djspidernyc https://soundcloud.com/spinning-plates-records https://www.instagram.com/spinning_plates_records/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Radio Muse, le programme de découvertes musicales européennes sur les radio Campus. This is the 10th edition of RadioMuse, this time from Radio Orange 94.0 in Vienna, Austria. For our broadcast we met with three exponents of the thriving Viennese underground scene, talking with Paul Ebhart and Florian Stöffelbauer in the first part of the show. Paul is active as a Dj and musician under various aliases, connecting the dots between experimental electronics, wave and techno old and new. Together with Florian he was organising the infamous "Basic Rhythm" parties in Vienna, soon extending into a Youtube channel of the same name, where they present the music they love and feel most. Florian is co-founder of "Neubau Records" and sublabel "Wiener Brut". As a producer he released records under his "Heap" alias on labels like ESP Institute or Berceuse Heroique. On top he is also running the record store / mail order "Discus Throwers" based in the Neubau district of Vienna. In the second part of our feature we met with Natascha Muhič, who is one of the cathalysts in the Vienna scene. With one foot in fine arts and another firmly based in music, she is involved in countless projects, organizing events, playing music, Djing, label-work.. you name it. Like Paul and Florian, Natascha is also well connected beyond Austria's local scene and part of a vital, exchanging community of artists in a wide variety of genres and fields. In our talk she will also tell us about her amazing project Vinylograph, a vinyl cutting machine she built together with Christoph Freidhöfer and that is used as a base for her lathe-cut vinyl label of the same name.

Rounding off a busy week we have a showcase in hard hitting electronics and the experimental from one of our favourite producers of the moment, Koehler. Originating from Bristol but now based in Italy he has released an impressive array of material for the likes of Whities, ESP Institute, Berceuse Heroique, Skude, Die Orakel and many more. His take on dance music is perhaps more abstract than most, utilising rough and ready soundscapes and layering the strange above driving percussion which has a profound and punchy impact on the dancefloor. It's powerful stuff. He is influenced by circumstance and there is a conceptual undercurrent which runs deep through his musical lineage. One that we love. We invited Daniel to record a mix for the site and he didn't hold back. Trust us.
this edition of The Bunker Podcast comes from San Francisco's DJ CZ, aka Chris Zaldua. There he puts on Surface Tension events and runs the Left Hand Pah imprint with Nihar Bhatt, who also turned in an edition of The Bunker Podcast earlier this year. artist statement: "This mix was crafted on two XDJ-1000s and an Allen & Heath mixer in one take. It's sort of a snapshot of where I'm at as a DJ these days, and contains a lot of music I'd play in the club and some I wouldn't. It's not techno, but it's not not-techno. It's not drum'n'bass, but it's not not-drum'n'bass, either. What really interests me is music that's slippery and difficult to define and exists in multiple spaces at once, and that's pretty much what I consider all of these tunes to be. Perhaps the best way to summarize it is in the immortal words of Uwe Schmidt aka Atom™ aka Fonosandwich: They call it donut But it doesn't have a hole." tracklist: Soma / Stygian Vista (Extreme) 1996 Age / Lancet (Mille Plateaux) 1994 Heap / Trippin' (Berceuse Heroique) 2017 (edit of House Hallucinates 1992) Elexos / 49 Mile Scenic Drive (Unreleased) 2019 Front de Cadeaux / Sottofondo Nero (self-released) 2019 (edit of .. unknown) Tobias. / Spectrum V (Ostgut Ton) 2016 Skee Mask / Soundboy Ext. Austrian music obsessive Heap is someone who always digs deep into the past, but also the present. His empire includes Discus Throwers, which is a concept store that deals in special gems from the world of house, techno, synth pop and kraut, as well as his Neubau label, productions on labels like ESP Institute and Berceuse Heroique and DJ sets that can be brave and beguiling or banging and brash. For this week’s mix, Heap keeps it deep with a selection of leggy and gently cosmic disco tracks early on. His is a thoughtful take on the genre, with expansive tracks that could be brand new or 30 years old all sitting nearly next to each other. As things grower darker and more intense later on, elements of acid, electro and proto-house all make for a colourful and late night trip.
Don’t DJ breaks rules. He takes risks. He goes with his heart and not his head. The music he makes is littered with odd sound sources, from oversized flutes to the sound of crushed plastic cups to frog noises, and his rhythms are always complex and challenging. He releases it on Fullfridge Music, Berceuse Heroique, and also runs his own Disk and is a master of fusing different sound worlds into compelling new forms. And that’s the case on the podcast he’s done for us. “I got drunk and recorded an all over the place old time favourites mix. it’s cursed,” he says. That means it’s a raw, instinctive selection with the mistakes left in and plenty of tough riding transitions that make it all the more thrilling. It’s exactly the kind of approach you would expect from the man: who else could squeeze in the likes of MC Hammer, Neneh Cherry, Frak and DJ Sotofett and still make it work? This is truly the work of a standalone DJ.
Florian Stöffelbauer digs deep. Not one to bow to trends and fanciful fads he knows his shit. Real abstract electronics for the clubs and dancefloors with a twist. The Discus Throwers founder has worked tirelessly for years showcasing the best in raw, rugged, forward thinking music and has used his shop to help push and promote up and coming artists unafraid to experiment and challenge. Discus Throwers has long been regarded as a reliable outlet for cutting edge material... However, it was not until he joined forces with Simon Heidemann to launch the Neubau label that things really began to escalate fast... Now an imprint of distinct consistency and dependability he has aided in the release of music by the likes of Leo James, Aufgang B, Mr Ho and more. Then there is his own musical affair - collaborations on ESP Institute and edits on Berceuse Heroique. Heap is a champion..
General Echo is a monthly night in Walthamstow, North London. Held in an unassuming upstairs pub called The Victoria it's a modest but welcoming reggae / dub disco with a relatively seismic sound system and reputable Guinness, all tied together by selectors and guests who acknowledge the innovation, mutation, spirituality and psychedelia that characterises Jamaica's most influential export. In the night's curation there's a recognition of what producers like King Tubby, Lee ‘Scratch' Perry and Prince Jammy first pioneered yet equal appreciation for the many evolutions and leftfield turns that have transpired since. You're as likely to hear the cult and the contemporary as you are the classic, from Wackies 12”s, On-U Sound rarities and the latest Equiknoxx outings to dusty 7”s of vintage ska, rugged roots and treasured lovers rock. Recent nights have played host to the likes of Warrior Queen, Domestic Exile and their next sees Gizmo from Berceuse Heroique manning the rig. More than most General Echo represents a forward-looking celebration of reggae and dub's timeless futurism, both its unabating relevance and its continued reconstruction. Here they provide an alternative homegrown history of dub music as realised on our very own humdrum island. As a mix this is more instructive than most charting how dub has influenced many hearts & minds on these here shores, sending inimitable shockwaves through post-punk, grime & beyond.
Hodge wasted no time getting started. Bulldozing his way through last year with a series of releases on Hotline, Berceuse Heroique, Tempa, Livity Sound sub-label Dnuos Ytivil and more recently releasing a double-pack through Untold’s revered Hemlock imprint, the Bristol-based producer has made quite an entrance, identifying a singular sound through a series of stylistically diverse releases. Following on from the feel-good house project Outboxx, the Hodge moniker has provided an outlet to explore murky, low-end fuelled techno, echoing the percussive, bass-heavy hybrid of Livity Sound and frequent collaborator Peverelist. There’s a similar community spirit evident in his mix for us – focusing exclusively on unreleased and forthcoming material from likeminded producers such as Randomer, Logos, Gramrcy and Rhythmic Theory. Mining the fertile ground between steely, heads-down techno, the twisting rhythmic perversions of the UK’s hardcore lineage and more abstract electronics experiments, it’s a mix that harks back to the heady, dubplate-filled sets of dubstep’s recent past while remaining resolutely forward-facing. Heavy stuff.
