Filho de um casal de educadores físicos, ele cresceu em um ambiente naturalmente voltado ao esporte. O pai, além de fundar uma academia em Balneário Camboriú em 1986, foi preparador físico de Gustavo Kuerten. Ainda garoto, dividia-se entre o futebol, o surfe e o skate, sem nunca imaginar que viria a se tornar atleta profissional. Já adulto, ao treinar natação, conheceu alguns triatletas e foi assistir ao Ironman de Florianópolis. Ficou impressionado com a grandiosidade da prova e decidiu que gostaria de viver aquela experiência. Passou então a treinar, e sua estreia no triathlon aconteceu no final de 2004. Competiu em algumas provas e foi ganhando experiência, até que em 2006, com a terceira colocação no Campeonato Brasileiro de distância olímpica, foi convocado para integrar o projeto de alto rendimento da CBTri na categoria sub-23. Alguns anos mais tarde, em 2009, venceu uma etapa da Copa Pan-Americana e, no ano seguinte, foi campeão pan-americano de longa distância e sexto colocado no Mundial de Ironman 70.3. Em 2010, foi convidado a integrar o projeto Rio 2016 e passou uma temporada com a seleção em Portugal, mas algumas lesões atrapalharam sua evolução. A volta ao Brasil marcou uma virada de chave: em 2012, estreou como atleta profissional no Ironman Brasil, conquistando a terceira colocação. Determinado a melhorar sua performance, voltou no ano seguinte para sagrar-se vice-campeão. Embalado pelas boas experiências, em 2014 entrou para a história como o primeiro brasileiro a vencer a prova de triathlon mais importante do país. Os anos seguintes consolidaram sua carreira: em 2015, tornou-se o primeiro brasileiro a completar um Ironman em menos de 8 horas; em 2016, venceu o Ironman da Holanda; já conquistou sete vitórias em Ironman 70.3, além do 13º lugar em no Mundial de Ironman, em 2013, tornando-se referência no triathlon de longa distância no Brasil. Hoje, aos 40 anos, divide sua vida entre os treinos, as competições e a família, e também é sócio da CPH Assessoria Esportiva. Com uma carreira de quase duas décadas dedicadas ao triathlon, segue como um dos nomes mais importantes do esporte no país. Até a adolescência, ele experimentou diferentes modalidades esportivas na escola, como o futebol e o voleibol. Nascido e criado em Florianópolis, sua vida sempre foi marcada pelo contato com a natureza. Inspirado pelo irmão mais velho, foi escoteiro por quase uma década. A Lagoa da Conceição e a Praia Mole eram o seu quintal. Praticou remo, mas foi ao conhecer a vela que começou a se aprofundar de fato no esporte. Do windsurfe ao kitesurfe, a paixão pelas águas da lagoa o levou também para o ar, através do parapente. Foi justamente nesse esporte que, em 1995, durante uma viagem à Suíça, se abriu o caminho para o que viria a acontecer anos depois. Lá, ele se deparou com uma corrida de trilha. Decidiu participar e, naquele momento, vislumbrou uma oportunidade: unir sua paixão pela natureza a uma nova modalidade, a corrida em trilhas. De volta ao Brasil, conciliou a vida profissional com o esporte. Em 1996 inaugurou a primeira unidade da Superação, uma das maiores academias multiesportivas de Floripa. Vivendo a atividade física e o esporte 24 horas por dia, começou a correr e disputar maratonas e, alguns anos depois, participou das duas primeiras edições do Ironman Brasil. A vivência nos esportes, somada ao espírito empreendedor, fez amadurecer a ideia de organizar uma corrida em trilhas. Em 2002, iniciou o projeto de uma corrida pelas trilhas ao redor da Lagoa da Conceição. Meses de trabalho resultaram, no ano seguinte, na primeira edição da Mountain Do. Desde então, consolidou o Mountain Do como um circuito de corridas de montanha que leva atletas a lugares icônicos e desafiadores dentro e fora do Brasil. Em 23 anos de história, ele esteve à frente de mais de uma centena de corridas, realizando os sonhos de milhares de participantes em 9 países. The city of Quincy is facing a lawsuit over its plan to erect two statues in front of their new public safety building to honor first responders. The statues in question depict St. Michael and St. Florian, the patron saints of police and fire departments. A “multifaith group of Quincy residents and taxpayers” being represented by the ACLU take aim with the statues saying they violate the Massachusetts Constitution by promoting one religion over another. Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch said the selection of the statues had nothing to do with the Catholic religion, that they were chosen in “an effort to boost morale and to symbolize the values of truth, justice, and the prevalence of good over evil.” Mayor Koch joined us to discuss.
