In dieser Folge von „Ganz offen gesagt“ spricht Host Stefan Lassnig mit Satiriker, Buchautor und Podcaster Florian Scheuba, warum Kriminelle und korrupte Politiker immer wieder Sympathien genießen und wie sich Korruption in den letzten Jahrzehnten verändert hat. Scheuba erklärt, warum er Donald Trump eher als Gauner denn als Entertainer sieht und wie schwer es Satire inzwischen hat, wenn die politische Realität oft absurder wirkt als jede Bühnenpointe. Anhand von Fällen wie Peter Hochegger, dem „Wo war meine Leistung?“-Satz oder dem Birnbacher-Gutachten zeigt er, wie Satire komplexe Affären auf einen einprägsamen Punkt bringen kann, den viele Menschen plötzlich verstehen. Ein zentrales Thema ist die wachsende Desinformation: autoritäre Akteure wollen weniger überzeugen, als vielmehr bewirken, dass „eh alle lügen“ und niemand mehr Wahrheit von Lüge unterscheiden kann. Scheuba kritisiert „False Balance“ in Talkshows, in denen Klimaleugner:innen wissenschaftlichen Positionen gleichgestellt werden, und betont seinen Leitsatz „Eine Lüge ist keine Meinung“. Ausführlich thematisiert er seine nicht rechtskräftige Verurteilung wegen einer Kolumne, warnt vor Einschüchterungsklagen gegen Journalist:innen und schildert, wie solche Urteile Meinungsfreiheit und Kritik an Amtsträgern massiv einschränken können. Im Gespräch geht es auch um die strukturelle „Aufrüstung“ der politischen PR gegenüber einem ökonomisch geschwächten Journalismus und um die Rolle sozialer Medien und KI bei der Aushöhlung eines gemeinsamen Wahrheitsbegriffs. In this week's episode, Blood editor Dr. Laurie Sehn interviews authors Drs. Anastasios Karadimitris and Maria Carolina Florian on their papers published in Volume 147 Issue 2 of Blood. Dr. Karadimitris' paper "Off-the-shelf dual CAR-iNKT cell immunotherapy eradicates medullary and leptomeningeal high-risk KMT2A-rearranged leukemia", discusses the success of bispecific CAR-iNKT cells targeting CD19 and CD133 in pre-clinical models, prompting the clinical development of this class of product. Dr. Florian's paper, "A Notch trans-activation to cis-inhibition switch underlies hematopoietic stem cell aging" proposes that the Jagged2/Notch interaction is a key regulator of hematopoietic stem cell divisional symmetry during aging and offers insights that may inform strategies to restore regenerative function in aged hematopoiesis.

Today I talked to Florian Wagner about his new book Colonial Internationalism and the Governmentality of Empire, 1893–1982 (Cambridge UP, 2022). From its founding in 1893, to its decline in the 1970s, the International Colonial Institute (ICI) was one of the most powerful nongovernmental actors on the colonial scene. Styling itself a reformist institution, the ICI applied the tools of transnational scientific exchange to “rationalize” the practice of colonial rule. As part of this reformist project, members of the ICI mobilized progressive ideas in ways that built broad political consensus across Europe while also furthering inequality, exploitation, and segregation in the Global South, even beyond the end of formal empire. Tracing the long history of the ICI reveals fundamental continuities, argues Florian Wagner, that colonialist narratives of change obscure. Elisa Prosperetti is an Assistant Professor in International History at the National Institute of Education in Singapore. O episódio de violência contra o cachorro comunitário da Praia Brava, em Florianópolis, mobilizou manifestações de norte a sul do país neste fim de semana. Nos atos, o pedido era o mesmo: justiça para os agressores que atacaram e mataram Orelha no início de janeiro. A polícia de Santa Catarina apura se o crime foi cometido por um grupo de adolescentes, e a investigação aborda até suspeitas de coação e ameaça a testemunhas. Orelha se tornou um símbolo de uma violência que cresce rapidamente no Brasil: o Conselho Nacional de Justiça diz que foram quase 5 mil casos de agressão a animais em 2024, um salto de 1.400% em comparação com 2021. A punição prevista em lei para quem maltrata cães e gatos chega a, no máximo, 5 anos de detenção, mas a maioria dos agressores é punida com medidas mais brandas. É o que explica Carlos Frederico Ramos de Jesus em entrevista a Natuza Nery. Carlos, que é coordenador do Grupo de Estudos de Ética e Direito Animal na USP e autor do livro “Entre Pessoas e Coisas: o Status Moral-Jurídico dos Animais”, analisa as mais recentes mudanças no ordenamento jurídico brasileiro em relação aos animais domésticos e ensina o que fazer para denunciar casos de violência.
