When Geordi La Forge is kidnapped by Romulans, he is conditioned into being an assassin to serve their evil designs. Meanwhile, the Klingon Empire has accused the Federation of supplying arms to rebel forces, and it's up to Captain Picard and crew to prove that this is not the case. Join us as we go boldly!
GREEN ROOM (2015) Director: Jeremy Saulnier Cast: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Patrick StewartA punk band walks into a Nazi bar. No, that's not the setup for a joke — it's the setup for one of the most suffocating, nerve-shredding thrillers of the last decade. This week on Dewey Pod Monster, Sean and John dig deep into Jeremy Saulnier's 2015 siege film Green Room, where a broke touring punk band witnesses a murder backstage and suddenly finds itself trapped in a standoff with a very organized, very murderous gang of neo-Nazi skinheads. Spoiler: the dogs are not friendly. In this episode, we discuss:Captain Picard's Cold-Blooded Era — Patrick Stewart plays Darcy, the calculating Nazi ringleader, with such chilling charisma that both hosts can't stop talking about it. He's warm, persuasive, and absolutely terrifying — and apparently has been acting since the 1760s, so he's had time to practice.Would a Real Punk Band Actually Do This? — John goes full music nerd and calls out the movie's two biggest logical leaps: why any self-respecting anti-Nazi punk band would knowingly play a neo-Nazi club, and how they survived long enough to open with Nazi Punks Fuck Off without getting murdered on stage. Sean defends the film. John is unconvinced. The Art of Doing More With Less — Shot on a $5 million budget with basically three sets, Green Room delivers a masterclass in compressed, claustrophobic tension. The hosts debate whether it's a horror film, a thriller, or just a really unpleasant Tuesday night — and explore how Saulnier's visual style echoes David Fincher's color palette and controlled camera work.One-Handed Shotgun Detour — The conversation takes a brief detour to John's other watch this week, The Rip (Netflix), starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in a cop drama that almost holds together — right up until Affleck fires a shotgun with one hand out a moving SUV window. John has thoughts. We Also Talked About:Long Shot (1981) (Internet Archive) — A Leif Garrett teen heartthrob vehicle about a high school soccer star who plans to fund his European football dreams by winning a foosball tournament. It is exactly as good as that sounds.Long Gone (1987) (Youtube) — An HBO baseball film set in 1957 following the fictional Tampico Stogies minor league team, starring William Petersen and Dermot Mulroney. A discovered gem to some; "it was fine" to Sean. The Lowdown (2025) (Amazon) — An FX series starring Ethan Hawke as a truth-chasing freelance journalist in Tulsa investigating what may or may not be a murder. Coen Brothers vibes, from the director of Reservation Dogs. Sean's wife kept interrupting him.Disco Lunch by The Boy Detective (Youtube) — A southeastern Michigan ska-horror-punk album that John is furious he didn't listen to sooner. Available on streaming and in vinyl variants at Pinkerton Records.Unlocked (Netflix) — A real-jail social experiment show where prisoners are allowed to semi-govern themselves. John watched Season 2 and found himself unable to sympathize with a single person in it.Blue Ruin (2013) — Saulnier's previous film and the first entry in his loose "revenge trilogy." Essential viewing if Green Room is your entry point.Rebel Ridge (2024) — The unofficial third film in Saulnier's spiritual trilogy. Mentioned as context for why Sean has been tracking this director for years.New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. We're proud members of the YouRun Podcast Network.
Joey's head pierces the veil of the chained apartment door as blinding sunlight pours in behind him. His eyes are wrong — they're the color of jewels, reds and blues all mixed up and coating every millimeter. His expression is contorted, almost beyond recognition. "THE CEASELESS FEAST OF WANT," he yells into the room, "A GLEAMING BEACON SHIMMERING ON THE HORIZON." He tries to force his way into the room again, but the chain holds. "WE ARE WANTED. WE ARE HERE TO SERVE AND REST OUR BONES UPON A GOLDEN THRONE. THE SUN IS FOREVER, AND SO TOO SHALL WE BE." Joey from the hit sitcom Friends retreats from the crack in the door, leaving a radiant glow spilling into the room. Our Spotlight Series brings us to one of the most highly debated Captains we see in Star Trek....Captain Edward Jellico. When Captain Jellico is brought onboard the Enterprise to take command while Captain Picard, Dr. Crusher and Worf are on a secret mission, things get rocky....especially with Commander Riker and Captain Jellico. Is he REALLY that bad of a Captain or is the crew just too accustomed to Captain Picard?
The League goes Trekking Through Trek again as they tackle Star Trek: First Contact. The crew of the Enterprise D travel back in time to battle the Borg for the fate of humanity. They also have to convince a drunken buffoon to fly a spaceship so aliens will spot him, and Captain Picard has to stave off obsession. All that, plus Data gets some! This week Matt, Clay, and John dive deep into the 1996 blockbuster Star Trek: First Contact — widely considered the best Next Generation film and one of the greatest Star Trek movies ever made. Directed by Jonathan "Two Takes" Frakes (who plays Commander Riker), this 30th anniversary classic pits the Enterprise-E crew against the relentless Borg Collective in a race through time back to April 4, 2063 — First Contact Day itself. We break down Picard's Ahab-level obsession with the Borg, the introduction of the terrifying yet oddly seductive Borg Queen, Data's very special encounter with her, and whether Zefram Cochran is the most reluctant hero in sci-fi history. We also get into the Rotten Tomatoes rankings across all Star Trek films, Jonathan Frakes' legendary "Two Takes" directing style, the practical model work by ILM on the Enterprise-E, and why the line "You're astronauts on some kind of Star Trek" might be the best/worst line in franchise history.Whether you're a lifelong Trekkie or just Trekking Through Trek for the first time, this is the episode for you.STAY CONNECTED!LISTEN & WATCH Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1crlHvsmYIRn4zjSdq44qn?si=5ee27c125ad54b70 The League on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@leagueofordinarygentlemenOFFICIAL SITES https://www.leaguepodcast.com http://vampcouncil.comTHE LEAGUE ON SOCIAL Facebook: https://facebook.com/leaguepodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leaguepodcast Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/leaguepodcast.bsky.social Threads: https://www.threads.net/@leaguepodcastCLAY & DURSIN Dursin on IG: https://www.instagram.com/dursin Dursin's Substack: https://dursin.substack.com Clay on IG: https://www.instagram.com/claynferno Clay's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@claynferno Clay's Substack: https://claynferno.substack.com

As we continue with our Starfleet's Finest? Spotlight Series, we arrive to TNG's Decent Part I & II. In this episode we highlight Admiral Alynna Nechayev, played by our dear friend Natalija Nogulich. When Data experiences an emotional response killing a Borg drone, something inside him snaps...leading to him involuntarily joining his brother Lore. Admiral Nechayev reminds Picard that if he is given another opportunity, like the one with Hugh, to rid the Federation of a mortal enemy, then he is to take it! The Enterprise follows after him but not at the expense of Troi, La Forge and Captain Picard being held prisoner.

Today on THE ESSENTIAL SOUNDTRACKS, Erik Woods, Robert Daniels, and Randy Andrews continue their journey through the STAR TREK films and their soundtracks as they discuss the eighth movie in the series, STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT. You'll hear them discuss the film in great detail, including such topics as the selection of Jonathan Frakes as director, the design of the new Enterprise E, Worf's return, the Defiant, the special effects as created by Industrial Light and Magic, the Borg Queen, and more. Also covered in great length is Jerry Goldsmith's incredible score (with help from son Joel). STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT was released on November 22, 1996. James Cromwell, Alfre Woodard, and Alice Krige join cast members from the 1987 series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION who were starring in their very first solo STAR TREK motion picture. In the film, the Borg travel back in time, intent on preventing Earth's first contact with an alien species. Captain Picard and his crew pursue them to ensure that Zefram Cochrane makes his maiden flight, reaching warp speed. The original soundtrack album was released at the time of the film's release on GNP Crescendo Records, featuring 44 minutes worth of score with two licensed songs. On April 2, 2012, GNP Crescendo Records announced a limited-edition collector's CD pressed to 10,000 copies. It features the complete score by Jerry Goldsmith with additional music by his son Joel, newly remastered by recording engineer Bruce Botnick, with an accompanying 16-page booklet including informative notes by Jeff Bond and John Takis. The album is still available to purchase at the time of this recording. NOTE - Our Patreon-only episode includes an extra segment discussing the cue "The Dish." You can listen to that version HERE. The Live Long and Podcast crew revisits Season 4, Episode 2 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Family" (1990), as part of their ongoing rewatch series. While the Enterprise undergoes repairs at Earth, Captain Picard returns home to France to confront his trauma and reconnect with his brother's family. The Great Rosary Campaign is an ongoing prayer and penance campaign for the conversion and strengthening of both Catholic and non-Catholic leaders. As a "Trekkie" (lover of Star Trek), we will be devoting several Great Rosary Campaigns to praying for the conversion of all remaining Star Trek cast members to the Catholic Faith.THIS WEEK of the Great Rosary Campaign: Star Trek Edition, we are praying for the conversion of Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in "Star Trek: The Next Generation." He was one of the greatest fictional character inspirations of my childhood when it comes to character, virtue, integrity, and being well-read and thoughtful. Please join us in praying that he may "live long and prosper" unto eternal life. The SUGGESTED PENANCE this week is a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament, the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. In these dark times, we must fight evil with the most powerful weapons we have. The Rosary is foremost among them. Join the Great Rosary Campaign today at: www.GreatRosaryCampaign.com.Countless Saints and Popes have told us that the Rosary is incredibly powerful for three things in particular:Keeping the FaithMoral renovationConversions of non-CatholicsThe Great Rosary Campaign is also based on several biblical themes and principles.First, PRAY FOR OUR BRETHREN. “Pray for one another…” (Jas. 5:16). “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Gal. 6:10).Second, PRAY FOR OUR ENEMIES. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:43-44).Third, PRAY FOR ALL MEN, PARTICULARLY LEADERS AND THOSE IN AUTHORITY. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, or kings and all who are in high positions…” (1 Tim. 2:1-2).Fourth, GOING INTO BATTLE WITH THE ARK. When the ancient Israelites came to Jericho, God didn't tell them to besiege the city. Instead, He told them to march around it with the Ark of the Covenant seven times, and on the seventh the walls would fall. We will now "march" in prayer for seven days with the New Ark of the Covenant, Our Lady, through the Rosary. We pray in hope that on the seventh day, a day especially devoted to Our Lady (Saturday), extraordinary graces of conversion will be given to those we are praying for.Fifth, EVANGELISM AND APOLOGETICS = LOVE + ARGUMENTS + PRAYER + PENANCE. Ultimately it is God who reveals Himself to a soul, and empowers them to say "yes" to Him by His grace. He chooses to use us, but He does not have to. We must remember that as we evangelize and defend the Faith, our arguments will be fruitless unless informed by love (charity), and reinforced by prayer and penance.Sixth, RETURNING GOOD FOR EVIL. “Do not return evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing" (1 Pet. 3:9).Sign up to take part in the Great Rosary Campaign today: www.GreatRosaryCampaign.com
We continue looking at Starfleet's "Finest" as we highlight Admiral Kennelly in TNG's "Ensign Ro". The Enterprise is asked to track down Bajoran Terrorists, with the help of Ensign Ro Laren, brought out of prison by Admiral Kennelly to assist Captain Picard. What Picard doesn't know is that Admiral Kennelly has something else in mind, and Ro is just a pawn.
The Live Long and Podcast crew revisits Season 3, Episode 23 of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Sarek" (1990), as part of their ongoing rewatch series. Sarek, the father of Spock and one of the Federation's most revered ambassadors, boards the Enterprise for what may be his final diplomatic mission. As Bendii syndrome begins to erode his emotional control, the crew experiences waves of irrational anger. In the end, only a mind meld with Captain Picard can help Sarek complete his duty, at a tremendous cost to them both.Live Long and PodcastStar Trek: The Next Generation S3 E23 - "Sarek" (1990) | Episode ReviewFirst Aired: May 14, 1990In-universe year: 2366Date of Podcast: March 9, 2026Star Trek: The Next Generation Rewatch Review SeriesTHIS WEEK'S PODCASTERSDave Mader, Adam Woodward, Heather Narduzzi, Justin VelociraptorLIVE LONG AND PODCAST FOUNDED BYDave Mader and Jaemeel RobinsonA PROUD MEMBER OF THE UNITED FEDERATION OF PODCASTSCheck us out online at https://www.ufpodcasts.com/livelongandpodcastPRODUCERDave MaderINTRO MUSIC BYJérôme ChauvelAbydos MusicSupport us on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/LiveLongandPodcastStreaming live on Twitch, Youtube and Facebook:Twitch Channel: https://www.twitch.tv/livelongandpodcastYouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/livelongandpodcastFacebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/LiveLongAndPodcastAudio version available wherever you get your audio podcasts.Listen to Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0yIEMJhawSLGAozJAh4EdGListen via Anchor: https://anchor.fm/livelongandpodcast#tng #startrek #thenextgeneration #livelongandpodcast #ufp #unitedfederationofpodcasts 0:00 Intro Credit Sequence1:28 Beginning of Podcast17:47 Screenshots and Plot Breakdown59:41 Fun Facts1:09:14 Ratings1:14:00 Outro

He is ordered to do everything necessary to keep the peace treaty with the Cardassians in tact. With the help of Miles Edward O'Brien, the Enterprise attempts to stop Captain Maxwell from going rogue, in an effort to avoid starting another war.

Instead of praising Irish soldiers who died fighting for England in World War I, the song asks why they were not fighting for their own land instead. It tells of ordinary men and women who stood up against a powerful empire, even when the odds were stacked against them. That's why it's a rebel song—it's about choosing freedom, courage, and self-respect over obedience. Versions like the one by Erin Ruth keep that spirit alive, reminding us that quiet voices can still challenge injustice and inspire change. 15:09 - Erin Ruth "The Foggy Dew" from Erin Ruth 18:25 - NEW PROTEST SONG INSPIRED BY STAR TREK: NEXT GENERATION "Chain of Command, Part II" from Star Trek: The Next Generation centers on Captain Picard as a prisoner of the Cardassians. His captor, Gul Madred, uses pain and fear to try to control him. But the real goal is not information. It is obedience. Madred wants Picard to stop trusting his own eyes and accept what the government tells him is true. Again and again, Picard is pushed to say something he knows is false. The episode shows how power can try to rewrite reality—and how courage can be as simple, and as hard, as holding on to the truth. It echoes George Orwell's 1984, reminding us that the final test of freedom is whether we trust our own eyes—or believe the government when it tells us we are wrong. 21:34 - Marc Gunn "Four Lights" from Four Lights single 23:56 - TODAY'S SHOW IS BROUGHT TO BY CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS Every year, I take a small group of people on a relaxing adventure to one of the Celtic nations. Why does this episode remind us of Nintendo's power glove? Remember the power glove?! Anyway, in this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "Peak Performance" (s2e21). There is a famous "that guy" who is overseeing a crazy war game exercise which pits Captain Picard and Commander Riker against each other. Riker recruits a group of people from the Enterprise and encourages them to improv, which is basically cheating. What do the divas say about this episode? Listen and find out!
We continue our new Spotlight Series "Starfleet's Finest?" by jumping into Star Trek The Next Generation. The season 7 episode "Pegasus" gives us one of, perhaps the most toxic Admirals we will meet in our series, Admiral Erik Pressman. Coverups, intimidation, withholding information, and violations of long standing treaties are just some of the issues Admiral Pressman brings with him to the Enterprise. We Riker's past and the weight of his decisions catch up to him, ultimately affecting how Captain Picard views his first officer. This episode brings us everything this Spotlight Series is about....and more!
Just when you thought it was safe to use the Transporter again… In an attempt to help a stranded Romulan ship, Geordi and Ensign Ro Larin are phased into ghost mode! The rest of the crew grapples with what they think is the deaths of two of our favorite characters. Data plans a funeral for his best friend Geordi while Worf celebrates. Riker laments and may or may not have feelings for Ensign Ro Larin he wants to share. Captain Picard keeps his upper lip stiff while Geordi has to convince Ro they ain't dead! Once she is convinced, it's team La Forge and Ro working together, figuring, and even touching each other a couple of times! Just when you think they've got it figured — plot twist (try not to sing that part)! There's a Romulan in the same state of phasery, and he's conspiring to commit some murder. All the while the Romulans are plotting, and scheming, scheming and plotting (Really, they're Romulans. This is what they do). But, these pointy-eared bastards are actually scheming to blow up the U.S.S. Enterprise! Will Geordi and Ro be able to outrun their rogue nemesis? Will they be able to communicate from their Phase-State to Data so he can zap their asses back into existence in time to save the Enterprise? Small spoiler for this episode: This wasn't our favorite episode but we're told we are very entertaining when we don't like a episode. In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss another Maurice Hurley written episode of Star Trek - The Next Generation, Time Squared (s2e13). Captain Picard suddenly has a totally different personality, and Riker can't make a omelett (which has nothing to do with the rest of the story). Join us as we "celebrate" this episode of TNG.

Captain Picard visits his friend, he dies, but the jokes just keep on coming. Wait what?! That's actually a thing that happens in the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "Contagion" (s2e11). Small spoiler, the divas actually liked this episode but it clearly had some problems, which we assume is due to the season 2 production rush. There are a few great moments in this episode, and some that are...well...you should listen to the episode to find out!

Click here to try it out! This week, the dads head into the mosh pit with Jeremy Saulnier's brutal, claustrophobic thriller Green Room — where a struggling punk band finds themselves trapped in a neo-Nazi club after witnessing a murder. It's one part siege movie, one part social horror, and all parts grim. When the Ain't Rights take a last-minute gig deep in Oregon's backwoods, they expect low pay and bad beer — not blood, dogs, machetes and Patrick Stewart as a terrifying skinhead ringleader. What follows is a night of panic, violence and duct-tape surgery, as the band fights to survive against an organised fascist militia who'd rather clean up witnesses than pay for another gig.We dig into:Punk authenticity — the grime, the DIY spirit, and how Saulnier nails the small-venue chaos.Patrick Stewart's casting — calm, chilling, and galaxies away from Captain Picard.Anton Yelchin's tragic final performance — and what a loss he was.Violence that hurts — no jump scares, just sudden, stomach-turning realism. The Nazi problem — why these villains feel horrifyingly believable in 2025.The A24 factor — another lean, mean indie proving the studio's knack for smart brutality.Elsewhere in the episode: ☕ The Top 5 Hot Drinks delivers peppermint tea, Dirty Harry's coffee, and more filth than a builder's thermos.
Were you like me, thinking, say I wonder what young Wesley Crusher is up to? Is he surfing the galaxy fantastic with his pal The Traveler? Has he gone off to join the cast of Stand By Me, Too — Still Standing By You? Or has he launched a boy band — it's the 90's after all! Wesley and the Crushers! No, no, and no — none of that happened. Instead, we go to Earth in this episode and find “Cadet Crusher” at Starfleet and almost dead! That's right! Wesley was in an accident and almost died. That accident, the one where he almost died… Well, things aren't exactly adding up and Wesley and the rest of Nova Squadron are under inquiry because a cadet died during their maneuvers! Nova Squad's leader, Nicholas Locarno, leans on the surviving cadets, Wesley included, to keep the details of their “Yeager Loop” maneuver fuzzy. It takes Starfleet, Captain Picard and crew, and some help from My Favorite Martian to untangle the truth. Will Wesley Crusher have the moral courage to stand up for what's right and make the title of this episode make sense? Will Picard be able to express the heartfelt gratitude for his own moral foibles? Will Gates McFadden, one of the finest actors on the show, be asked to sit on her hands and fret all episode? Star Trek month continues on Tread Perilously with an episode of The Next Generation called "Imaginary Friend." When the Enterprise surveys a nebula formed around a collapsed star, an energy being makes its way inside the ship and assumes the form of little Clara Sutter's imaginary friend. But it soon becomes clear to the child that her playmate, Isabella, is more than just a figment of her imagination. Meanwhile, the ship begins to encounter a form of energy that reads like matter to the shields, but is invisible to sensors. And when Isabella begins to make threats, it becomes clear to Captain Picard that the phenomena are related. Erik and Justin face a particularly poor TNG episode. The pair activate script doctor mode to find other ways to tell this story. Justin tries to figure out whose episode this really is. While Counselor Troi seems the focus, the guest characters take point, and Picard ends up bringing it home. Alexander Rozhenko makes a special appearance. Justin gets a few Deep Space Nine references into the proceedings. Erik tries to figure out the real dynamic between Clara and her engineer father. Both also try to determine what career goals mean in the 24th Century. A Twilight discussion breaks out and the film Invisible Child ends up mattering a great deal.

In this episode, Luke and Jae dive into Star Trek: Insurrection, the third film featuring the cast of The Next Generation. Often considered one of the lighter entries in the franchise, the movie blends action, humour, and moral dilemmas as Captain Picard and his crew confront the Federation over a secret plan that could displace an entire civilisation. From its themes of youth, ethics, and loyalty to its place within the wider Star Trek legacy, the guys break down what works, what doesn't, and whether this instalment deserves its mixed reputation.

We're going out to the farthest reaches of space and into the deepest recesses of the mind for another look at Harry Potter and Star Trek. Potterversity regular Louise Freeman, a retired psychology professor and licensed behavioral analyst who previously joined us for two episodes on memory in Harry Potter, contacted us after our Star Trek episode to share another connection that occurred to her. She asks us to consider the famous Dumbledore quotation "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" (DH 723) in the context of implanted memories in Star Trek. We focus on Captain Picard's life in an extinct civilization on the Next Generation episode "The Inner Light" and Chief O'Brien's prison sentence on Deep Space Nine's "Hard Time." Both experiences take place only in the characters' minds within a few minutes yet feel like years to Picard and O'Brien. Technically, Picard never left the bridge of the Enterprise and O'Brien never served time in jail - it happened inside their heads but felt real to them and had lasting effects. We also discuss Captain Pike's time on Talos IV on The Original Series, where aliens can create convincing illusions either to trap people or to give them a better quality of life, which is particularly appealing for Pike after he becomes severely disabled. Nog's time in a Las Vegas nightclub in a holosuite following a traumatic injury on Deep Space Nine's "It's Only a Paper Moon" leads us to consider Potter's ghosts and another Dumbledore quote: "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live" (SS 214). These "unreal" experiences can have positive or negative consequences and demonstrate the power of escapism not only within these series but for audiences who feel immersed in them. Can you think of any other connections between Harry Potter and Star Trek? We'd love to hear from you! Send us an email at PotterversityPodcast@gmail.com, and connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.
The Federation is in trouble! In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "Conspiracy" (s1e25). Captain Picard receives an urgent message with from an old friend, and is informed of a conspiracy happening at the highest levels of the Federation. What is the conspiracy, and can the crew of the Enterprise stop it? Also why can't anyone just look at the back of people's head? Listen to hear what Stef and Chris have to say!
When American conservative evil is distilled into a black puddle of sludge that kills a woman, sends innocent people to an El Salvadorian mega prison and wages tarrif wars on friendly nations, Captain Picard is forced to answer the question, “Are some people just unable to embrace compassion and empathy?” It's the episode that drives home the reality that the cruelty is the point.
