Every nation has a story, but some chapters are written in blood. For decades, India fought an enemy that didn't wear a uniform - an ideology that spread through forests, cities and silence, in one of the longest internal-security battles in the country's history. Roshan Cariappa sits down with Tuhin A. Sinha - BJP National Spokesperson, author of 14 books, and now the writer of a comprehensive new book "Naxal Terror Vanquished: The Long War against Maoism, and the Doctrine That Ended It." This book discusses how India confronted and pushed back Naxal terror. We've had Tuhin on the show before - last time, to talk delimitation, the women's reservation bill and the coalition arithmetic of the Monsoon Session. This time the conversation turns to something bigger and bloodier. His starting point is a memory gap: Gen Z and Gen Alpha never saw this threat at its peak, and the country readjusted so fast that few remember how bad it got. In 2010 alone, over a thousand people were killed in Naxal violence - 74 CRPF jawans ambushed at Dantewada, and the Gyaneshwari Express sabotaged in West Bengal, killing 150. This, he argues, was never a "socio-economic problem" - it was an out-and-out terror movement. From there the conversation traces the full arc: the origins in Naxalbari in 1967, the role of "urban Naxals" in supplying funds and arms, the Salwa Judum movement and the price its leaders paid, and the turnaround that followed - the convergence of security agencies across a seven-state Red Corridor, the surrender-and-rehabilitation policy, Operation Kagar's final push, and the development story behind it. Tuhin's central claim is a bold one: that Naxalism has been pushed to the brink of extinction. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 - The enemy that didn't wear a uniform 01:20 - Welcome back to Bharatvaarta 02:08 - How serious a threat was Naxalism, really? 03:06 - Dantewada & the Gyaneshwari Express: how deadly it got 04:36 - When a leader calls a Naxal his role model 05:10 - Where it began: Naxalbari, 1967 06:30 - How it evolved - students, Bihar & caste 08:05 - The UPA years: scrapping POTA & the NAC 08:36 - Salwa Judum, and the myth about tribal support 11:37 - Struck down: the fresh wave of violence & the leaders killed 12:54 - Why "socio-economic problem" was a fatal misreading 13:47 - Urban Naxals: the supply of funds and arms 17:52 - What this government did differently 20:26 - The surrender & rehabilitation policy 21:16 - Operation Kagar: the final phase 22:45 - Bastar Olympics & bringing fighters into the mainstream 24:46 - Development as the closing chapter: Modi for tribals 26:02 - Will Naxalism ever return?
Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have some questions about a Spartanburg County Police report… made by none other than Debbie Barbier… When Greg Parker's attorney Deborah Barbier told Spartanburg police she'd been “harassed” in a hotel lobby the morning of Mandy's contempt hearing on June 22, 2026, the department did something our team has never seen done so thoroughly for a harassment complaint made by a woman: it investigated. Multiple officers. Multiple weeks. Untold public monies. Search warrants signed by magistrate judges with no explanation of what probable cause existed — including a search of Mandy's Marriott room records and private guest information divulged over the phone. Hours of surveillance footage later, police could not locate the confrontation Barbier described, and the case is now listed as "inactive". We're revisiting what South Carolina's harassment statute actually says, and ask why protected first amendment activities keep getting recast as crimes… and why behavior matching the statute is disregarded. Then we relook at McClatchy reporter John Monk's coverage of Mandy's contempt proceedings through the prism of his 44 year old son's federal indictment on child sexual abuse material charges — to which Monk Jr. has pleaded not guilty. We have questions… Let's Dive In…

Have you ever wondered what the real difference is between a pirate, a corsair, and a buccaneer? Most of us use those words as if they all mean the same thing... but they really don't.This week on Spanish Loops, Fran and I had a great time untangling one of the most fascinating chapters of history. We talk about who these men really were, who paid them, what they were after, and why Spain's ships crossing the Atlantic became some of the most valuable (and dangerous) targets on Earth. It turns out the story isn't simply about buried treasure, eye patches, and walking the plank. Behind every attack was money, politics, and a fierce struggle for control of the riches flowing between the Americas and Europe. Some sailed under a king's blessing, others answered to no one but themselves, and more than once the same man could be considered a hero... or a criminal... depending on which country was telling the story. We'll also explain how the discovery of the New World transformed international trade forever and why the Caribbean became the center stage for one of history's greatest maritime rivalries. It's an episode full of surprising stories, incredible characters, and plenty of myths that deserve to be busted. Curious about the people who ruled the seas and why they mattered far more than Hollywood usually tells us?, you'll definitely enjoy this one.Come aboard, and join us for another adventure on Spanish Loops.

Fr. Patrick Lynch, MIC reflects on the meaning of miracles: wonders that have no natural cause and can only be attributed to the divine power of God. Miracles reveal the wonder of God, confirm the truth of the Gospel, and witness to the holiness and love present in the lives of His saints. He invites us to ask: Do we truly believe in the miraculous power of God? Do we believe God can make us great saints? Fr. Patrick reminds us that one of the places where miracles still happen every day is in the tribunal of Confession, where God's mercy transforms hearts and souls. ★ Support this podcast ★

Who powers the cloud infrastructure behind NBC, Warner Bros. Discovery, Olympics, and the Super Bowl?Amagi, built out of an office on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru. What started there grew into a company that went public at an $825 million valuation and today has a market cap of over $1.3 billion, earns 73% of its revenue from the US, and proved that world-class enterprise technology can be built in India and sold to the world.Co-founders Srividhya Srinivasan and Baskar Subramanian take us back to the days after selling their first startup to a NASDAQ-listed chipmaker, when they landed on an idea almost nobody in India's broadcast industry believed in: regionalizing satellite TV ads. That business grew to ₹180 crore in revenue. Then the founders made a bold call: "Enough of this hardware mess. We'll host only on the cloud." It meant shutting down an 8 year old profitable business to back a cloud platform that was barely making a few crores. That decision transformed Amagi into the company it is today.18 years later, Amagi went public, as a strong example of building a truly global enterprise software company from India. But the IPO itself was far from an obvious decision. The founders share why going public was the right choice despite not needing capital. This episode will tell you how category-defining companies are built.00:00 - Trailer01:00 - How three college kids became founders04:55 - The startup idea validated by a palmist07:10 - How founders split roles (w/o designations)11:04 - What Amagi 2.0 does14:29 - Bannerghatta Road runs Olympics for the US15:54 - Only 10% of TV networks are on the cloud16:50 - Why shut down a profitable business?21:25 - Why one co-founder moved to the US28:06 - Did Amagi really need the IPO?31:10 - What is Amagi 2.0?36:04 - Selling to the US: then vs. now40:44 - How NBC signed with Amagi43:56 - How intent is measured through contracts46:58 - 5 major decisions that changed Amagi52:08 - How AI is changing Amagi57:45 - Being the CTO of a public company1:02:57 - US vs India Market: US is fast to experiment1:04:48 - Enterprises Need Human Touch1:11:12 - Cloud and TV: No one Believed1:13:34 - What will Happen to Hollywood-------------India's talent has built the world's tech—now it's time to lead it.This mission goes beyond startups. "How many lives could have been saved if the warning signs had been connected sooner?"In the mid-1980s, a wave of unprecedented terror gripped Southern California. Windows were nailed shut, lights were on throughout the night, and ordinary communities found themselves at the mercy of a predatory phantom. The media gave him a moniker that froze the blood of millions: "The Night Stalker." But away from the sensational headlines, a devastating reality was unfolding; one marked by fragmented police jurisdictions, catastrophic political blunders, and an analog system entirely unequipped to track a transient killer. In this episode of When Killers Get Caught, host Brittany Ransom shifts the lens away from the killer's dark celebrity to honor the real people behind the statistics. We strip away the mythology of Richard Ramirez to examine the human cost of the tragedy, the structural failures that kept him on the streets for 14 terrifying months, and the ordinary East L.A. citizens who finally refused to let him disappear again. The Victims Before the Headlines: Restoring the names, lives, and humanity of those targeted, including Jennie Vincow, Maxon and Lela Kneiding, Vincent and Maxine Zazzara, and the brave young survivors like six-year-old Anastasia Hronas. The Anatomy of a Ghost: How Ramirez's unmapped, transient status allowed him to exploit the margins of Los Angeles and slip between the cracks of a fragmented legal system.Investigative Blunders & Political Egos: A deep dive into the shocking missteps that compromised the hunt. Including the infamous Dianne Feinstein shoe press conference and the live media leak of the killer's stolen getaway vehicle. The Streets Take Back Control: The visceral moment a neighborhood cornered a monster, proving the manhunt wouldn't end with a SWAT raid, but with ordinary people shouting “¡El Matón!”The Endless Trial & Death Row Gridlock: An exploration of the toxic courtroom spectacle, the "Night Stalker Groupies," and the philosophical failure of a 24-year death row sentence that was ultimately beaten by cancer.A Note from Brittany: When Killers Get Caught will be taking a brief mid-summer production break for the month of July to prepare our next season of deep dives. MusicalTalk continues its exploration of the many and varied ways that war and conflict can be portrayed in the world of musical theatre. This week, Thos revisits a remarkable piece of verbatim musical theatre (itself a rare and unusual form) created to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, which explored 100 years of the British involvement in battle through the musicalisation of real testimony from actual participants. And as the video of the show remains viewable on YouTube, it's a musical you can still watch as well as hear all about.

The traditional workplace model, designed in the twentieth century, no longer serves the realities of contemporary life. W. Brad Johnson and David Smith, two former Navy officers turned leading researchers on workplace gender equity, have spent decades studying what actually makes organizations thrive. Their journey from military service to academia reveals that the most pressing business challenge of our time is not technological innovation or market disruption, but rather the fundamental misalignment between how we structure work and how people actually live their lives. Brad and David's research has evolved significantly over their careers. They began by studying mentoring relationships and how men could become better mentors for women, then shifted to examining public allyship and holding men accountable for gender fairness. However, their most transformative insight came when they realized that without changing the fundamental structures of work itself, individual efforts could only go so far. They discovered that most people today live in dual-earner, dual-career families, yet workplaces continue operating as though employees have no caregiving responsibilities. They emphasize that this is not merely a women's issue or a diversity initiative, but rather a fundamental question of organizational design and leadership courage. Organizations must create psychological safety where employees can be honest about their caregiving responsibilities and their needs. They must embrace role modeling from senior leaders who openly discuss their own caregiving challenges and demonstrate that it is possible to be both a committed caregiver and a high-performing professional. To learn more about gender-fair workplace practices and discover how leading organizations are transforming their cultures, visit WorkplaceAllies.com. Get a copy of their latest book, Fair Share, at your favorite bookstore or online retailer to explore their comprehensive roadmap for building workplaces where everyone can bring their whole selves to work.
