By - Joshua A. Swanson North Dakota State ruined the University of North Dakota's party at the Alerus Center last weekend, riding a shutdown performance from Code Green to a 16-10 win. While the Herd did enough offensively to down the Fighting Hawks, they'll look for a stronger showing this weekend against one of the hottest teams in the FCS, Northern Iowa. The Panthers feature a new signal caller in Theo Day. Day, a Michigan State transfer, leads an explosive Panthers offense. Swany tells Bison fans to take a deep breath, enjoy the win against UND, and crack a happy bag of smiles for today's big Homecoming contest against UNI. Brian Shawn, from Midco Sports, joins the show to talk about the Herd's big win in Grand Forks, and breakdown the keys for taming the Panthers. The guys talk about Code Green's team chemistry, and a Bison offense that just may be on the brink of finding its rhythm. Kick back, and start your Homecoming celebration with your friends from Herd It Hear! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As we enjoy and celebrate this weekend's festivities surrounding North Dakota State's game against Valparaiso, it's important that we reflect on the twentieth anniversary of 9/11. On September 11, 2001, 2,977 people were killed in four separate acts of terrorism against America in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. We honor the memories of those lost as we will never forget the events of that day and its aftermath. I was sitting in a history class at Menard Hall on NDSU's campus when we learned the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Later that day, I walked to class at South Engineering by the Bison statue on the south end of campus. Campus was somber and quiet as the world had changed forever. Yet here we are, 20 years later, still standing, and still united. Shifting gears, we're joined by Brian Shawn from Midco Sports to talk about the Herd's 28-6 opening day win over Albany. We discuss the dominating performance from Code Green, the solid play from Bison quarterback Quincy Patterson, and the Rams and the rushing attack bulldozing the Great Danes in the second half. The Herd out-gaining Albany 259-22 on the ground. We also visit about NDSU's improved secondary play, and the focus on getting better and taking strides against Valpo this week. It's a day for reflection, and celebration, as we stand united, the Strength of the Herd, this week, on Herd It Hear With Swany. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dave sits down with Brian Shawn, sportscaster, lynch syndrome cancer survivor, and fan of all things sports. Interestingly enough, it was Sanford Health reminding Brian to get tested that got him to finally go ahead with it. Now as a colon cancer survivor, he's using his microphone to spread awareness for lynch syndrome. We also talk about Minnesota United soccer, and my trips to Minneapolis for meetings with our partners, the Colon Cancer Coaltion, and Get Your Rear in Gear. Of course, we discuss Trey Mancini and whether or not he has lynch syndrome, given his age of colon cancer onset and his family history. Â
By - Joshua A. Swanson In a program used to big weeks, the last week has bordered on the surreal, even for North Dakota State. It began with a 42-20 demolition of Eastern Washington in the FCS playoffs. After that, NDSU announced the brand new, state-of-the-art Nodak Insurance Company Football Performance Complex, the Herd's $38 million indoor practice facility. That was followed by former Bison quarterback Trey Lance being taken as the third overall pick in the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. His teammates, Dillon Radunz (2nd Round, Tennessee) and Jabril Cox (4th Round, Dallas) were also drafted. Oh, and the Herd plays this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN in a national FCS quarterfinal. A big week needs a big show, and Herd it Hear delivers! We're joined by NDSU athletic director Matt Larsen, former Bison All-American and legend Joe Mays, and the TV play-by-play voice for the Herd, Brian Shawn. We cover all bases -- the NFL Draft, a deep dive previewing the Sam Houston game, and what the new indoor performance complex means for one of the most successful programs in college athletics. "It was a huge deal, it was a really special day," said Larsen on the announcement of the Nodak Performance Complex. "It's a complex, it's going to be an unbelievable asset to our programs. From a recruiting standpoint, there's a wow factor to it when you look at this facility. It's going to change the landscape on the north side of campus. It's going to show investment, it's going to show a high level of success, and it's going to serve us a really well for a number of years." Join us to get ready for a big Bison weekend, where champions come to talk! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

North Dakota versus North Dakota State. It was once the greatest DII college football rivalry in the country before going on hiatus for over a decade, but after years in the wilderness, it appears to be back for good. This Saturday afternoon in Fargo, the two programs will square off for just the second time since 2003, marking the start of a new era of the rivalry now that UND’s transition to the Missouri Valley Football Conference is nearly complete. While the game itself should be one to remember, there’s always been more to this matchup than X’s and O’s, a fact not lost on our NDSU insider Brian Shawn and me. Listen to our full conversation below on the latest MidcoSN Podcast, and be sure to subscribe to our podcast feed on Soundcloud and Apple Podcasts – it’s the easiest way to get the latest pods from MidcoSN the moment they come out. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the game this Saturday!
Kyle Emanuel was a fifth-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers back in the 2015. He played in 63 games overall, starting 33 of them, finishing with 144 career tackles. Despite solid numbers, he retired from pro football in the off-season due to some nagging injuries. He sits down with Brian Shawn to reflect on his time in Fargo, San Diego and Los Angeles and why decided to move back to Fargo.

Few can match his insight, analysis, and knowledge of the Herd. Swany and Nolan ask Brian about the big themes entering next week's Spring Football Scrimmage, and what to expect next from Bison hoops. More excitement than the Battle of Winterfell, this week, on the Bison Illustrated Podcast!
