On this episode we're joined by Katie Hale to discuss her upcoming novel The Edge of Solitude. Set on a lone ship that's slowly drifting toward the heart of the Antarctic, it's a book which asks us to consider the risks of the planet's future being left in the hands of a few insanely wealthy individuals. The Edge of Solitude is a story of ambition, principle and above all fallibility that foregrounds our current climate emergency in the near future. A time of hubris and disappearance. The book came from a trip which Katie took to Antarctica in March 2020 and maps the complicated legacy and geopolitics of the region. Remember all those mild threats that your parents might've used on you? Well, Katie Hale found all of them and squeezed them into today's grid (a Sunday, because phrases like DONTUSETHATTONEWITHME definitely need most if not all of those 21 square swathes). The crossword was not too difficult, but we'll take it - and give it a well-deserved 5 squares on the JAMCR scale.
Our Georgia friends, Matthew and Katie Hale, share about how very different they are and how that shows up in the way they either easily or difficultly share their needs and emotions with each other. They talk about the growth journey and realizations they've come to as they've walked this out together. We also get a glimpse into the kind of bridal shower gifts that Jenna gives and while the bride can love the hilarity, the groom, especially on the wedding night is not so happy. Poor Matthew.

In this interview, she shares about her training to become an Intuitive Eating counselor and the Health at Every Size movement... as well as what it was like growing her practice, hiring an associate, specializing in women's health, and more.
The Two Popes is a based on true events, the resignation of Pope Benedict and the election of his successor, Francis. It's also a double act by two great Welsh actors, Jonathan Pryce, Francis, and Anthony Hopkins, Benedict. Jonathan Pryce discusses his role, the story of their unlikely friendship and what the film is really exploring - the nature of forgiveness. 300 years after the publication of Robinson Crusoe, which some claim is the first novel ever written, novelists Katherine Rundell and Katie Hale consider the continuing allure of its narrative of survival against the odds and how its complex post-colonial racist narrative reads in 21st century Britain. Key figures from Sutton Coldfield discuss challenges and opportunities facing the Royal Town. Chamber chief executive Paul Faulkner is joined by Sutton Coldfield Chamber president Katie Hale and Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council leader Cllr Simon Ward.
In this episode, Jen chats to author Katie Hale about her new book I Am Monster, partly inspired by Robinson Crusoe and Frankenstein, as well as the current global political bin-fire. They chatted about said bin-fires, about societal concepts around femininity and motherhood, and writing complex female leads. And dogs, there are a few dogs, too. Katie Hale has had her fair share of knocks to the confidence and she just keeps on getting back up and loving who she is. If you have been judging the way you look lately and feeling less than "feminine" or thinking that you don't have "masculine" features... Then you need to listen to Katie, and how getting alopecia only boosted her confidence, when she could have let it break her. She is such a stunning person to be around. Heather first came across Katie in an article she had written about her hair loss. It really inspired Heather to look at steriotypes within our modern culture. We put so much focus on what makes "muscle" and what makes "feminine" in terms of appearance. But Katie proves that THAT is a load of crap. Katie opens up about how losing her hair at such a young age, changed her personality completely. She is such an attractive young woman, that when they sit down for a coffee and chat in chilly Melbourne. Heather is so in awe of her, that she tries to complement her. But it just gets weird. Enjoy.
