Mike Greenfield is a passionate cook, teacher, on-camera host and filmmaker. He's one half of the Brothers Green Eats duo; what began as a little YouTube channel with his brother Josh, the show now has 1.3 million subscribers and has had major spin-offs, such as a series on MTV International.A decade into this career, Mike continues to find inspiration in teaching people how to be self-sufficient in the kitchen, and loves deep-diving into things like sourdough bread baking and making kombucha. He has created courses -- video tutorial series -- which are separate from his YouTube content, to help people get on their feet with these sometimes tricky fermented items and other kitchen skills.Mike and I talk about timeless food content, his journey of trying to stay authentic on YouTube and why he defines himself as not just a food host, but a filmmaker (rightly so).Show notes :Watch the YouTube collaborations Mike and I have done in the past:Beginner's Guide to Curing Meat at Home -- https://youtu.be/VGZch3T_Qy05 Creative Ways to Use Avocados -- https://youtu.be/kUG1soj9bfM --Mike Greenfield----Instagram // @lifebymikegYouTube // https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzH5n3Ih5kgQoiDAQt2FwLw --Keep It Quirky--Instagram // @keepitquirkypodcastKatie Quinn on Insta & Twitter // @qkatiewww.youtube.com/TheQKatie Don’t forget to sign up for my e-newsletter! Today’s guest is Mike Greenfield. I first met Mike at a taco night event he was catering at 368 with his brother Josh. Mike is a content creator who focuses on teaching people how to cook and prepare delicious meals on his YouTube channel Brothers Green Eats. We talk about how he decided not to go on his traditional route of becoming an architect and how he went and wanted to do something more fulfilling and he just went for it, which eventually led to him being where he is today. It is almost Black History Month as Wendy Sheridan, Mary McGinley, and Robin Renée welcome you to this week's episode of The Leftscape. February 1st is National Freedom Day, which honors Abraham Lincoln's signing of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment. Also coming up is the seasonal holiday of Imbolc and its secular analogue, Groundhog Day. On February 5th, the Year of the Pig begins and on that day we are also invited to celebrate National Shower with a Friend Day! Birthday nods and remembrances this week include Jackie Robinson, Portia de Rossi, Brandon Lee, Lisa Marie Presley, Ronda Rousey, Farrah Fawcett, Elizabeth Blackwell, Alice Cooper, Rosa Parks, and Trayvon Martin. Featured in this episode is Robin's interview with John Cecil Price, Philadelphia-based promoter and guitarist most recently with THe BaPTist pReacherS. He believes that art and music are storytelling, and that telling your story is, by its very nature, a political statement. As a self-described "loudmouth, opinionated huckster of unpopular thought," he has a lot to say on topics including the nature of political parties, love, Baby Boomers, Gen Z, singer/songwriter Laura Marling, Permit Patty, The Mummers, cargo shorts, and the silver lining of a Donald Trump presidency. In News, Wendy tells us about the Supreme Court's recent decision to allow the transgender military ban to go forward as the lower courts work through the issue. The co-hosts consider the possibility of adding to the Supreme Court to rectify the conservative leaning. In another edition of Why Is this Awesome?, Mary raves about the "food porn" experience with cooking shows Brothers Green Eats and Flo Lum. Want to stay politically engaged? Not a lot of people know this about me, especially those that follow closely to Brothers Green Eats, for the last number of years I have been studying Vibrational and Sound Healing, a type of music meditation that focuses on music designed to help you heal. In a lot of cultures around the world they use sound to help you shift your brainwaves and alter your states so as to access higher consciousness and realign with positive energies. We are all made up of energy and matter, and if we are off we lose the connection to ourselves. Think of a day when you've felt off. Or maybe you feel off now. Listen along and see if something shifts for you, if you follow along, you'll be surprised of all the changes that you notice.
