This week at The Hub, we're tackling another legalistic mindset in the church. In Mark 7, Jesus confronted the Pharisees for elevating man-made traditions—like ceremonial handwashing—above God's Word. He called them hypocrites for teaching their own rules as if they were God's laws.Sadly, that same spirit of legalism still exists in the church today. Over time, personal convictions—like opinions on drinking or gambling—have been turned into universal laws. But where did those rules even come from?History shows that as far back as the 2nd and 5th centuries, gambling was condemned by some as moral corruption. Later, reformers like Luther and Calvin spoke against it, and by the 19th and 20th centuries, churches made it an official sin. But here's the problem: a reaction to error often creates another error. When we try to regulate morality, we step into dangerous territory. The law gives sin its strength—but grace transforms the heart. Don't turn your personal convictions into laws for others. That's not holiness—that's legalism.

In this episode, I respond to Sally's question about attendance and attrition in Child-Centered Play Therapy. Many therapists are noticing families stop coming around the fifth or sixth session, and I explain why this usually reflects a breakdown in articulation. When parents don't fully understand what's happening in CCPT, they lose confidence, make excuses, or believe they've seen enough progress and can stop. Our job is to communicate clearly, build trust, and ensure parents are genuinely bought into the process. I also clarify other key practice points: parent consultations should never replace a child's session. Playrooms should be reset for every child with toys visible, accessible, and inviting. Rather than expecting parents to commit to 30–40 sessions upfront, it's better to structure treatment in rounds of five sessions with re-evaluation at each parent consultation. Finally, I address misconceptions about progress timelines and emphasize that strong parent relationships are just as vital as our therapeutic relationships with children. I've been part of The Boutique Hub for more than five years, and I was so excited to welcome its founder, Ashley Alderson, to the Launch Your Box Podcast. Ashley started The Boutique Hub in 2013 to give small business owners a place to connect, learn, and grow together. Today, the Hub supports more than 100,000 small businesses. What Loyalty Really Looks Like When I asked Ashley what customer loyalty actually looks like, she didn't hesitate. It's all about building community. People want to buy from people. The more your customers feel connected to you and your brand, the more loyal they become. Ashley shared her team's approach to content creation, something she calls the VAVA Method. Viral: Is it relatable enough that someone would click, like, share, or comment? Authentic: Does it sound like a real person said it? Value: Does it help your audience by saving them time, solving a problem, or making their day better? Aspirational: Does it make them feel like they're becoming a better version of themselves? When you're running a product-based business, you can't just sell all the time. Ashley says that at any given moment, about 90% of your audience isn't ready to buy, so you need to nurture them with community-building content. Ashley suggests ratio of two-thirds soft-sell, one-third direct-sell. Sales Is a Noble Process Ashley reminded us that selling is about serving. When you connect with your audience, help them solve problems, and make their lives a little better, that's a noble thing. As subscription box owners, we have to be attached to that outcome for our subscribers. We start by building community, then we serve that community, and then we sell to that community. That's servant leadership in action. How to Build Loyalty That Lasts Ashley shared that true loyalty comes from creating an emotional reaction. Everything, from your community and marketing to post-purchase experiences, should make your customers feel something. Your subscribers should always believe the value of your box is greater than its price. As Ashley likes to say, “Cheap ain't loyal.” Be the face of your brand. Let people see you. Because at the end of the day, people want to buy from people. The Six Layers of a Sustainable Business Ashley broke down the six layers every business needs to build a strong foundation: Operations and Brand Profits and Profitability Team Sales Strategy Content Strategy Social Media Each layer works together to create a business that's stable, scalable, and ready for long-term success. The Future of Small Business Ashley sees a shift happening, away from isolation and scrolling, and back toward real human connection. People are craving community, conversation, and relationships again. And that's great news for subscription box owners, because community is what we do best. Take Action Spend time this week building connection with your audience. Share something that's relatable, real, and valuable - something that reminds your followers there's a person behind your brand. In this episode, I explore the dynamics of sibling and group play therapy sessions in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). I walk through why and when it makes sense to pair siblings together in the playroom—especially when there's a shared experience like divorce or trauma, or a relational issue like constant conflict. I also share considerations for pairing unrelated children in group sessions, including ideal age ranges, complementary personalities, and shared goals. You'll hear about practical strategies for managing the extra complexity in these sessions, including the importance of using children's names consistently, documenting carefully, and maintaining attunement to each child as well as their relationship. I also talk about how group dynamics naturally encourage kids toward emotional balance and regulation. Whether you've been hesitant to try sibling or group sessions, or you're already offering them and want to be more intentional, this episode offers insights to help you feel more confident and prepared. It's nearly the end of October and already my daily practice is revolving around what I will need to play this holiday season. Yours might be too. The smart harpist knows that this is the time to plan your practice carefully so that you don't have to cram practice time into an already overloaded holiday schedule. If we feel prepared to play going into the holiday rush, it makes everything about the holidays more fun. So now is the time to plan. We have about six weeks from now until the end of November. In my own planning I usually use our Thanksgiving as my target date to have my music ready. If you're not up to speed on American holidays, our Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, so date-wise, it's a movable feast, but as it marks the kickoff for our holiday rush, it's a great target date for music readiness. Today, I want to share what I think is the easiest and most realistic schedule for making sure whatever music you have to play this December will be ready. I start by looking at the three most critical decisions: what “ready” means (and believe me, it's different for each piece, each player and each performance), how much practice time you have and how to divide that time among everything you want to practice and play. Once you have made those decisions, it's about making a realistic and flexible schedule that allows you to get your music ready without the stress and lets you feel confident that you are ready to play your best. In this episode, I respond to a question from Lungile, a clinician in South Africa working with a 9-year-old girl who engages in highly directive role play—assigning roles, limiting dialogue, and scripting the session. When sessions become this structured, how do we remain faithful to the CCPT model, especially when reflective responses are limited? I talk through what it looks like to stay within the model even when you feel like you're not "doing enough." I also share some practical ideas for subtly integrating reflective responses into role play scenarios—even when you're given a script—so that the child still experiences attunement and emotional presence. If you've ever wondered how to navigate sessions where you're limited in what you can say, this episode will give you clarity and reassurance. In this episode, Alex speaks with political researcher Sam Routley about how conservatism is changing in Canada. Drawing on his article “Decoding Canada's Conservative Coalition” published in The Hub, Routley explains why Canada's conservative movement has remained more stable than those in other Western democracies, where right-wing politics have undergone dramatic upheavals. They discuss the historical roots of Canada's “fusionist” conservatism, the economic and cultural shifts driving new tensions between working-class and knowledge-economy voters, and how Pierre Poilievre's brand of populism fits within Canada's longstanding political traditions. This time of year always make me think about how the leaves are most beautiful when they're dying. Interesting, right? And it made me think, we can be beautiful, too in a similar way! What if our most radiant beauty comes from 'dying to ourselves" - not from what we hold onto, but from what we release? In this episode I share how letting go of our plans, possessions, and gifts allows God’s glory to shine more vividly through us. Join me as we explore the kind of beauty that heaven notices—the beauty born from faithful surrender and intentional generosity. In this episode, John discusses: Understanding the deeper meaning of true, lasting beauty How surrender transforms our view of giving and living Recognizing the power of faithful stewardship in daily life Embracing God’s design of transformation through release. Key Takeaways: True, enduring beauty is found when we willingly die to our own plans and ambitions, allowing God to transform our hearts and reveal His glory through a surrendered life. Supporting those who serve—missionaries, pastors, and ministry leaders—extends our reach beyond ourselves, making us active participants in the stories of lives changed through God’s work. When we intentionally use our unique gifts, experiences, and resources to serve others, we reflect God’s creativity and purpose while multiplying the eternal impact of our obedience. Releasing control of our possessions, influence, and desires opens the door to deeper freedom and reveals a kind of beauty that draws others closer to God and echoes beyond this lifetime. “These beautiful colors—the reds, the oranges, the yellows, and the golds—just remind me about this beauty that God invites us each into, that isn't found in what you hold on to, but is revealed in what you release.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! In this episode, I walk you through one of the most challenging—but entirely normal—scenarios in child-centered play therapy: when a child refuses to go back to the playroom. Whether it's the lobby, hallway, or even the car, I share how we can handle these moments with confidence, clarity, and congruence. I outline how to prepare yourself, prepare parents, and uphold the model without bribes, coercion, or negotiating—while still gently guiding the child toward the playroom over time. We cover key strategies like pairing reflective statements with gentle invitations to the playroom, keeping parents from interfering (even with good intentions), using ultimate limits after excessive repeated refusals, and the importance of follow-up emails to parents. This episode is packed with real-world insight to help you stay anchored and effective when a child's process looks different than expected. Welcome to "Thriving in Midlife Redefining Aging with Wellness" the podcast where we discuss how to live an extraordinary life in every aspect. I'm your host, Kellie Lupsha, a high-performance health coach, who is delighted to be your guide to vitality. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on what really needs attention before jumping straight into hormone replacement therapy during perimenopause and menopause. I'm fully supportive of HRT when it's right for you, but if your body's core systems, like gut health, mitochondrial function, detox, and methylation, aren't in good shape, HRT might only offer a temporary fix. Hormones work best when your foundation is strong.Key Highlights:The surprising shift happening in your gut, and why foods you once loved might now betray you.How your mitochondria (your cellular energy makers) start slowing down, and what to do about it.The truth about detox: it's not a one-time cleanse, but a daily process your body needs support with. Why methylation matters more than ever as you age, and how it quietly affects everything. The danger of skipping foundational health while chasing shiny hormonal solutions. How your sleep habits may still be stuck in “mom mode”, and why it's time to retrain them. The type of movement your midlife body actually craves (hint: it's not endless cardio). Why “activating” your body, through food, lifestyle, and smart supplementation, turns on your best genes.Key Takeaways:“When we're in this perimenopause and into menopause, a cascade of events starts to happen… your gut microbiome goes crazy and foods you could tolerate before you're not tolerating.”-Kellie Lupsha“You need to activate your body… You need to turn your good genes on and your bad genes off.”-Kellie LupshaCome to the Virtual Women's LIFE Summit Nov 5th & 6th, 2025! In this episode, I answer two questions from Chloe in Georgia. First, I talk about how to navigate physical limitations or health issues—like pregnancy, illness, or injury—in the playroom without disrupting the child's experience or compromising the therapeutic relationship. I share how we can use age-appropriate truth and neutral language to explain changes in our engagement while still meeting the child's emotional needs. Then, I unpack Chloe's second question about the overwhelming environments many children face—particularly in daycares, preschools, and schools that are not developmentally appropriate. I offer encouragement and direction for how we, as CCPTs, can support overwhelmed parents and advocate for children when diagnoses are flying and schools are pushing labels. Our role is to trust the process, slow things down for families, and be unwavering in our presence and commitment to each child. This one's full of encouragement and clarity for anyone feeling frustrated or alone in this work. PlayTherapyNow.com is my HUB for everything I do! playtherapynow.com. Welcome to "Thriving in Midlife Redefining Aging with Wellness" the podcast where we discuss how to live an extraordinary life in every aspect. I'm your host, Kellie Lupsha, a high-performance health coach, who is delighted to be your guide to vitality. In this episode, Dr. Heidi and I sat down during that cozy back-to-routine energy of early fall to talk about something that's always top of mind for us and probably for you too: how to truly nourish your body when the world around us has changed so much. We're diving into why “just eat healthy” isn't always enough anymore… and what to do about it without turning your kitchen counter into a pharmacy.Key Highlights:Why “food as medicine” still holds true but looks different today than it did 50 years agoThe surprising reason your vibrant salad might not be as nutrient-rich as you thinkHow your DNA actually listens to what you eat and turns health switches on or offWhy processed food isn't just “less healthy” but is often missing the very signals your body needs to functionThe surprising truth about “perfect-looking” produce. (hint: beauty isn't always nutritious)Why organic isn't just about avoiding pesticides but is about nutrient density through natural plant stressHow modern farming and long transport times quietly drain the goodness from even the best foodsA mindset shift: thinking of supplements as “concentrated food” not pillsFour foundational nutrients most of us are low on even when we're doing our bestSimple, practical ways to support your immune system, hormones, and long-term resilience from the inside outKey Takeaways:"The food can look beautiful. And it's like, I'm eating this amazing apple and it tastes delicious. And it has no or very little nutrients in it."-Kellie Lupsha“The more colorful the food, the more the polyphenols, which are those micronutrients that help with oxidative stress in your body, reducing inflammation.” -Dr. HeidiCome to the Virtual Women's LIFE Summit Nov 5th & 6th, 2025! In this final episode of the Art of the Session series, I walk through a full recap of everything we've covered over the past 16 episodes. This has been one of the most in-depth series I've ever done, and it's all about grounding ourselves in the foundational structure of CCPT sessions — from how we set up our playrooms, to how we greet children and parents, to how we execute the core responses and maintain a child-led presence throughout. My hope is that this episode brings it all together in a simple, clear framework that supports your confidence and adherence to the model. While CCPT is not always easy to execute, it is simple — and when you internalize the pillars, the reflective responses, and the essential mindset of being rather than doing, it becomes second nature. Thank you for walking through this series with me. I'm so grateful for your commitment to the model, and the kids you serve. PODCAST MEETUP @ APT Conference Oct. 11th, 7pm Houston, TX time. Canada must raise its level of ambition to compete in today's rapidly shifting geoeconomic and geopolitical landscape. So far on the podcast, we've focused on how diversifying oil and gas exports can strengthen Canada's power and influence. This week, we turn our attention to another strategic sector — mining. Our guest this week is Photinie Koutsavlis, Vice President of Economic Affairs and Climate Change at the Mining Association of Canada. She joins us to discuss the current state of Canada's mining industry. Here are some of the questions that Jackie and Peter asked Photinie Koutsavlis: How large is Canada's mining sector, and what are its main products? Since the January 2020 announcement of the Canada–U.S. Joint Action Plan on Critical Minerals, what progress has been made on the ground? Has investment and production grown — and if not, what are the main barriers? With the boom in dance universities and academies worldwide over the past two decades, aspiring dancers today may feel spoiled for choice. Yet, identifying true gems among these institutions is crucial for those seeking professional training backed by top educators to shape their futures.Hence why, I explored these crucial choices with Angela Pickard, a dynamic curriculum builder and innovative thinker who became the UK's first Professor of Dance Education in 2021. Angela is the Director of the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care, the Route Lead for the MA Arts, Health and Performance, and the Director of the Hub for Practice-Based Research in the Arts at the School of Creative Arts and Industries. With a background as a dancer, choreographer, practitioner, and academic, Angela brings a wealth of experience in arts research, particularly dance and movement practices, along with a dedication to exploring the relationship between the arts and physical, psychological, social, and artistic outcomes. In this episode, Angela and I delve into the art of policy-making and education reform, sharing the lessons that have shaped her mission to enhance the dance and performing arts learning environment. In this Q&A episode, I answer three questions from Emily. First, I share how I guide parents to respond when a child—or their sibling—asks why they're going to therapy. I offer simple, CCPT-aligned language that keeps the explanation safe, supportive, and child-appropriate. Next, I address a common situation in sessions with older children: when they want you to participate in games like “Would You Rather?” I explain how to stay true to the model while still maintaining connection and rapport. Lastly, I talk through how to handle personal questions from kids—especially pre-teens—who may be seeking relationship or connection. I offer mindset guidance and practical phrasing for staying centered and maintaining therapeutic boundaries while still honoring the child's need for connection. In this episode of the Art of the Session series, I focus on how we engage in role play within child-centered play therapy sessions—and more importantly, how to do it without taking over the process. Role play often trips up even seasoned therapists, especially when we assume, ad-lib, or react without clarity. I share specific examples of how to stay grounded, use whisper or wonder techniques when unclear, and how to remain neutral in your tone and response—no matter how absurd, violent, or emotional the play might get. Whether it's being assigned the role of a queen, a mom, or a turtle, it's essential that we don't bring our own scripts into the session. Instead, I explain how to wait, reflect, and let the child set the pace and parameters of the play—so we remain truly child-centered. This episode reinforces that every interaction—even pretend food, puppet bites, or birthday announcements—offers us an opportunity to respond without leading, interpreting, or disrupting the child's process. Have you ever noticed how the more you grow, the more criticism you seem to attract? In this episode of the Leading Lady Podcast, I dive into the connection between growth and criticism—why it happens, how it impacts us as leaders, and what we can do to navigate it with resilience and confidence. I open up about my own experiences as a business owner, from handling personal attacks and misconceptions to reframing criticism into opportunities for growth. We'll explore the emotional sting of criticism, why it often comes from unexpected places, and how to build healthy boundaries while still staying open to meaningful feedback. If you've ever felt like judgment or fear of being misunderstood has kept you from stepping fully into your potential, this conversation will remind you that you're not alone—and that growth and criticism are often two sides of the same coin. Are you chasing the wrong results with your money? It’s easy to get caught in comparison, or in building a certain lifestyle, but those paths often leave us with half-finished plans and unnecessary stress. In this episode, we’ll uncover why God’s results are different—and better—than our own, and how His wisdom gives us the steps to finish well. Together, we’ll explore five timeless principles that can bring peace, clarity, and eternal purpose to your financial journey. In this episode, John discusses: Comparison and the pressure to measure success against others The tension between lifestyle choices and long-term life purpose Aligning financial decisions with God’s eternal results Practical wisdom for building a faithful financial foundation Key Takeaways: Spending less than you earn provides a faithful and steady foundation, lowering stress and keeping your financial life sustainable over the long term. Avoiding lifestyle debt keeps you from building on shifting sand, freeing you to pursue God’s call without the burden of unnecessary payments. Keeping cash on hand for emergencies creates a margin that allows you to weather financial storms while staying rooted in God’s bigger picture. Practicing generosity directs your heart toward God’s results, reminding you that giving isn’t extra credit—it’s a centerpiece of faithful stewardship. Establishing and following a clear financial plan ensures your good intentions don’t stall out, helping you finish well instead of leaving “half-built towers.” “When you spend your energy chasing THEIR results, you will rarely finish well in YOUR results, and you will likely exhaust yourself taking steps on a path that was never meant for you.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! This week, Jackie and Peter discuss Peter's recent writing, including his article in The Hub titled “Increasing Canada's Energy Ambition is an Economic and Geopolitical Imperative” as well as two other pieces, “Geoeconomics and State Capitalism” and “The Cost of Being a Market Hostage.” Peter argues that Canada must raise its level of ambition to compete in today's geoeconomic and geopolitical environment—one where markets are shaped less by free trade and more by state power, economic coercion, and the strategic use of industries to advance geopolitical objectives. In this new order, the effects of tariffs, sanctions, control of trade routes, and dominance over critical resources are felt daily on the global stage. Yet Canada is not showing up as a true contender. The country remains passive, heavily dependent on the United States for oil and gas exports, at significant cost to the economy. Peter outlines four levels of ambition that Canada could pursue. At the lowest level, the nation remains a “market hostage,” reflecting its current state in oil and gas. A modest step up would be the role of “competitor,” in which new tidewater export capacity expands Canada's reach. Moving further, Canada could become a “negotiator,” able to leverage energy exports as a bargaining chip in international relations. At the highest level, Canada could aspire to be an “aggressor,” a country that wields genuine market power in vital resources—similar to the way China has achieved influence through state control of strategic industries. On a lively day in Old Town Winchester, the air buzzes with the energy of local businesses and the hum of community life. Tucked into Old Town Walking Mall in downtown Winchester, Worlds Away Escape offers a unique kind of adventure—one that challenges the mind, fosters teamwork, and brings a sense of playful mystery to the heart of downtown. In a recent episode of "The Valley Today," host Janet Michael sat down with Worlds Away Escape owner Ariel Pugh, and Brady Cloven, executive director at Friends of Old Town, to explore the story behind this local gem and its impact on the community. A Passion for Puzzles Becomes a Business Ariel's journey to escape room ownership began with a childhood steeped in games and puzzles, thanks to her parents' love for both video and board games. “I grew up playing video games with my dad, sometimes board games but more video games with him, and always board games and maybe some video games with my mom,” Ariel recalls. Her passion for problem-solving led her to try every escape room she could find, eventually helping to test new rooms at the Winchester location. When the previous owners decided to sell, Ariel—on leave from her corporate job—took the leap, supported by her then-fiancé (now husband), and became the new owner. The Art and Science of Escape Rooms For the uninitiated, Ariel describes escape rooms as immersive experiences that require participants to “think differently, have some fun, and distract themselves from life and work.” Each room is themed, offering a variety of puzzles—riddles, observation challenges, decoding tasks—set within a compelling narrative. Worlds Away Escape boasts six different themed rooms, each designed to intrigue and challenge groups of friends, families, or coworkers. Team-building is a major draw, with companies frequently booking sessions to foster collaboration and communication. “It's a very interesting observational experience,” Ariel notes, describing how group dynamics play out in the rooms. Whether it's a family with established roles or coworkers discovering new sides of each other, the escape room becomes a microcosm of teamwork and leadership. Behind the Scenes: Creativity, Community, and Logistics Running an escape room is as much about creativity as it is about logistics. Ariel shares that she aims to change out one room per year, a process that involves not just designing new puzzles but also redecorating to create a fully immersive environment. The escape room community, she says, is highly collaborative, with owners sharing ideas and supporting each other through online forums and direct consultation. Reservations are essential—walk-ins are rare due to the need for staff preparation and room resets between groups. Pricing is tiered, with larger groups enjoying a lower per-person rate, making it accessible for everything from kids' birthday parties to corporate outings. After each session, staff meticulously reset the rooms to ensure every group gets a fresh experience. A Hub for Downtown Winchester Worlds Away Escape is more than just a business; it's a vibrant part of Old Town Winchester's evolving landscape. Brady highlights the importance of having interactive attractions downtown, especially during off-seasons or inclement weather. “It doesn't all have to just be pretty buildings or antique shops,” he says. “It's fun to have something very interactive on the mall.” The conversation also touches on the broader revitalization efforts in Old Town, from public art projects to seasonal festivals and community events. Worlds Away Escape fits seamlessly into this tapestry, offering both locals and visitors a reason to explore, connect, and return. Looking Ahead As the episode wraps up, Ariel and Brady share upcoming events and encourage listeners to stay engaged with downtown happenings. With a new room in the works and a calendar full of local festivities, Worlds Away Escape continues to unlock new adventures for Winchester's community. For those seeking a memorable experience—whether you're a puzzle enthusiast, a team leader, or just looking for something different—Worlds Away Escape is ready to challenge and delight. As Ariel puts it, it's a labor of love, and one that's helping to make Old Town Winchester a destination for discovery.
