In this episode we're joined by Alice from The Mustard Seed Farm in the Ames, Iowa region and Mary Kay from St. Isidore Farm in Southwest Wisconsin. They explore if the word “cult” in Peter Maurin's alliterative vision of “cult, culture, and cultivation” is scary or a turn off and how they're trying to be producers and not just consumers. Email mustardseedbee@gmail.com (Mustard Seed) or catholicworkerschool@gmail.com (St. Isidore) to find out more about how to visit their respective farms.

When we look at our photographs and find not the slightest reflection of ourselves, it’s a good sign that our images have lost their soul. What can we do about that? How can we add life into our images? Photographer and author David duChemin answers those questions in his new, inspiring and thoughtful book: The Soul of the Camera – The Photographer’s Place In Picture-Making. David talks about his new book and shares his ideas and thoughts on being intentional about creating images. In 2009 when photographer David duChemin released his first book Within The Frame, the former comedian had no idea what adding author to his resume would do to his career trajectory, saying “I think sometimes other people can peg that about us before we're willing to say so about ourselves.” He followed up Within the Frame with TEN, an ebook that not only inspired photographers to improve their craft without buying gear, it also helped him launch his publishing company Craft & Vision. Now, more than twenty ebooks later, David has released his eighth print book, called A Beautiful Anarchy, which eschews the genre-specific pursuit of photographic vision and instead looks to unpack the deeper levels of the creativity that drives it. In this conversation, David and I discuss how leading a creative life is about more than just making art. We also talk about motivation, intent and how we can learn to repurpose some of the fears and failures that hold us back into fuel to help us move forward. It's a fascinating conversation that I'm sure you'll love. LINKSA Beautiful Anarchy Craft & VisionQ&A@F&B Ep. 3: David duChemin Multitasking May Not Mean Higher Productivity (NPR) CONNECT WITH DAVIDWebsite: http://davidduchemin.comTwitter: @david_duCheminInstagram: @davidduchemin MUSICPlease Listen Carefully (Jahzzar) / CC BY-SA 4.0
