In the spring of 1886, two El Paso madams went to war over a young prostitute named Bessie Colvin, and by the time the smoke cleared, one of them was shot in her privates and the other was under arrest for attempted murder. This is the story of Alice Abbott, the six-foot-tall brothel operator known as Fat Alice, and her rival across the street, Etta Clark, better known as Etta the Grasshopper. We cover how prostitution actually worked in the Old West, from the crib girls at the bottom to the saloon girls and the high-end parlor houses, along with the $10 weekly fine that conveniently went straight into the pockets of the El Paso police department.   Wild West Quiz - https://wildwestquiz.com/   Check out the website! https://www.wildwestextra.com/   Email me! https://www.wildwestextra.com/contact/   Free Newsletter! https://wildwestjosh.substack.com/   Buy Me A Coffee!  https://buymeacoffee.com/wildwest   Join Patreon for ad-free bonus content! https://www.patreon.com/wildwestextra   Merch! https://wildwestextramerch.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. #NEZNATION LIVE: Personal Branding 101

A California murder case is raising explosive new questions about pretrial release, public safety, sanctuary policies, and accountability in the criminal justice system.Marcos Eduardo Iriarte-Valdez was already facing residential burglary charges when police say he was taken back into custody on August 4 for allegedly violating the conditions of his home detention. On August 5, a judge ordered him released on his own recognizance and returned him to electronic monitoring. The next day, prosecutors allege that Iriarte-Valdez stabbed 68-year-old retiree Todd Stewart to death while committing a residential burglary in Martinez, California. Even more astonishing: the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office says prosecutors had objected to electronic home detention for Iriarte-Valdez three separate times. He has since pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and was ordered held without bail after another judge called him a risk to public safety. DHS has also entered the controversy, describing Iriarte-Valdez as a Venezuelan national with Spanish citizenship who had originally been legally admitted to the United States in 2007 and placing an immigration detainer on him after the homicide. The political dispute over California's immigration and sanctuary policies is now intensifying. In this episode, Professor Nez breaks down the timeline, the release decision, the warnings from prosecutors, the immigration controversy, and the questions Americans should be asking about accountability when defendants accused of serious crimes are repeatedly returned to the streets. What do YOU think? Should judges face greater accountability for release decisions involving repeat offenders? Dodge City, Kansas, earned its reputation as the wickedest little city in America in just a single year, back when it was still a lawless buffalo camp with no sheriff, no judge, and nothing more than a hole in the ground for a jail. In the years that followed, Texas cattle replaced the buffalo and transformed Dodge into the Queen of the Cowtowns. And the lawmen who kept a lid on the violence, like Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, went on to become some of the most famous names of the Old West. The WNBA controversy surrounding Sophie Cunningham, DiJonai Carrington and Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White is exploding all over again — and now Stephen A. Smith has entered the conversation. After Carrington was ejected following a hard foul on Cunningham, White said she did not clearly see the play in real time before going to her postgame press conference. After reviewing the replay, White later described the play as “egregious.”But images circulating online have fueled even more questions about White's explanation — and the backlash became so intense that sections of the Indiana Fever's own HOME crowd booed their head coach. Then things got even stranger.White delivered an emotional defense of her players, talking about unity, love, grace and humility — before finishing with a message to her critics that “everybody else can go to hell.”Now Stephen A. Smith is asking the question millions of people watching this controversy have been wondering:How does the head coach not see what happened to her own player? We're breaking down the footage, the reaction, the boos, the contradictions, and why this latest controversy has become another massive headache for the WNBA.And what do you think Fever fans were REALLY saying when they booed their own coach?SUBSCRIBE and turn on notifications for more breaking news, cultural commentary and stories the mainstream conversation can't stop talking about. For free and unbiased Medicare help, dial (656) 218-0931 to speak with my trusted partner, Chapter, or go to https://askchapter.org/nez▶Sign up to our Free Newsletter, so you never miss out: https://bio.site/professornez▶ ORIGINAL MADE IN U.S.A 250TH AMERICA DESIGNS: https://professornez.myspreadshop.com/

He then asked the question the media rarely seems willing to answer: Which one of those positions is actually “far right”?The tense exchange unfolded during Musk's wide-ranging interview with The Economist's editor-in-chief, Zanny Minton Beddoes. The Battle of the Little Bighorn didn't end when George Armstrong Custer fell. Four miles to the south, the surviving seven companies of the 7th Cavalry, under Major Marcus Reno and Captain Frederick Benteen, were pinned down on a barren hilltop and fighting for their lives. A battle that would result in two days of thirst, sniping, desperate charges, and over two dozen Medals of Honor. We'll also discuss Dr. Henry Porter's makeshift field hospital, the rescue by General Terry and Colonel Gibbon, and the burial of the dead. Then we dig into the reckoning: the Reno Court of Inquiry, Frederick Whittaker's crusade to blame Custer's subordinates, the surrenders of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull, and the 1980 Supreme Court case and the billion-dollar settlement the Lakota still refuse to this day.   Wild West Quiz - https://wildwestquiz.com/   Check out the website! https://www.wildwestextra.com/   Email me! https://www.wildwestextra.com/contact/   Free Newsletter! https://wildwestjosh.substack.com/   Buy Me A Coffee!  https://buymeacoffee.com/wildwest   Join Patreon for ad-free bonus content! https://www.patreon.com/wildwestextra   Merch! https://wildwestextramerch.com/   Custer's Last Stand! https://www.wildwestextra.com/custers-last-stand-hero-or-fool/ Learn more about your ad choices. The Battle of the Little Bighorn is one of the most famous and most misunderstood events in American history. On June 25, 1876, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and roughly 210 men of his immediate command were wiped out along a ridge in southeastern Montana by a massive village of Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho fighting under Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. But how did Custer really die? Did he go down fighting, was he killed trying to reach the river, or did he take his own life to avoid capture? And did the warriors who killed him even know who he was? Also discussed is the entire chain of events that led to Custer's Last Stand, from the Lakota claim to the sacred Black Hills and the broken Fort Laramie treaties, through Sand Creek, Red Cloud's War, and the Black Hills gold rush, to the three-column campaign of 1876.   00:00:00 Introduction
