This Mental Health Awareness Month and one local nonprofit organization, HGI Counseling, has seen a dramatic 600 percent increase in the demand for their mental health therapy services since the global pandemic began. This significant growth is just one example of the current mental health crisis happening in our community and across the nation. In many families, and even in the workplace, there is still a stigma against speaking openly about mental health and seeking help. HGI Counseling has been providing affordable and, in many cases, free therapy sessions since 1978. As an organization, they do not turn anyone away regardless of their ability to pay. Sue Levin, PHD and Executive Director of HGI Counseling, tells us more about the significant increase in demand for their services, as well as about a new innovative program that the organization is making available to employers to address the mental health needs of their employees. Nonprofit executive, philanthropist, wellness expert, author, and athlete, Crystal Hadnott is also releasing her new book, "Rise & RUN" which coincides with Global Running Day on June 1st. Crystal has run well over 150 full and half marathons since October 2006 and on several different occasions, she has also run a 202-mile relay race. Crystal shares her story of her outlining her health and fitness journey and gives us some wellness tips.

Reviewing restrooms is part of a bigger plan, I know there might be someone out there wondering why I'm reviewing restrooms, well there's a method to my madness. Last week, when I looked at my analytics, I noticed I had more people tuning in from France than I did from CT. That bothered me, on the one hand I was excited about the reach of the podcast, but, that area of opportunity bothered me. Why didn't more people know about the podcast in the state I live in? Whelp that would be my fault, and so I'm going to change that. Currently only 9% of our audience tunes in from Connecticut. Growth Strategy: Conduct restroom review. Post and tag establishment on IG. Follow Up with a live call to share the news Include the call during an episode Share link to the episode with the establishment. Rinse and Repeat This gorilla marketing tactic will allow us to create a buzz throughout the state, identify potential advertisers for the show, identify social media management/engagement opportunities for restaurants and janitorial services. Next up will be Barber Shops and Beauty Salons. Crystal Hadnott lives in Houston, Texas. An injury in 2005 resulted in temporary paralysis on one side of her body from hip to foot. When doctors said she’ll need a cane and always walk with a limp, she told them that she wanted to run a marathon. This can-do attitude enabled Crystal to change her life, including running over 100 marathons and half marathons combined and currently training for an ultramarathon. Crystal found pilates to be critical to her recovery and has even developed her own form of pilates and started her own business called Synergy Total Holistic Health and Wellness. Crystal tells us why she can often be found running in pearls and red lipstick, shares helpful running advice, and challenges our listeners to believe in themselves.
