Sam the Barber is from Kosovo, former Yugoslovia. He and his siblings became refugees and they split up all over the globe in search of a new start. Sam came to the US to make a new life for himself, and he did that by becoming a barber! I had no idea what the difference between a hair stylist and a barber was, much less what is required of the two. Learning about different people and their backgrounds is so rewarding. It puts so much into perspective, and I am so thankful to have been able to hear his story!

I can't help but shake my head at the San Francisco 49ers' latest Super Bowl bout – they had the ammunition with Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel but misplaced their playbook. It's like showing up to a duel with a cannon only to leave it unfired. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs rode their luck like seasoned gamblers, with Patrick Mahomes pulling aces at the eleventh hour. Let's not forget my grudging nod to Travis Kelce and the over-the-top Taylor Swift media circus. And there's this one celebrity scandal I'm kicking myself for not talking about sooner; it's the kind of juicy story that would've had our listeners tweeting up a storm. Now, let's veer off the field for a moment. Ever wonder why 'step' fantasies in porn have become as mainstream as superhero movies? It's a bizarre trend that's got me scratching my head about modern-day taboos. And speaking of head-scratching, the normalization of certain intimate acts in adult films is warping bedroom realities – a topic I tackle with both hands. Nostalgia hits hard as I lament the disappearance of the classic barbershop experience amidst today's tech overload. Wrapping up, I'm laying down my bets that Usher's Super Bowl halftime show will go down as one of those unforgettable performances that'll have folks talking years from now. Tune in for a mix of sports hot takes, societal commentary, and a nod to the pastimes we're at risk of losing in our hyper-digital world.Support the show
My guest this week was only a student when he became a NAHA finalist. He spent 10 years as an educator internationally and established technical academies across the globe. Today, he oversees the education team at Floyd's 99 Barbershops and this year he publishes his first book in collaboration with his sister Melissa. I've known him for years and I am so excited to share him with you on Headcases. Here is Patrick Butler.• While at NAHA, he introduced himself to Irvine Rusk and, as a student, asked for career advice. Irvine told him to do good work over and over again until you master it. Fail, start over, and keep doing it.• While with American Crew, Patrick worked on stage around the world and taught at several AC academies. The experienced built his confidence and developed his skill set beyond his expectations.• If you can master the cause and effect - the why - in the foundational skills - you will be able to adapt to any challenge or trend that comes your way.• What does Patrick mean when he says "100% is easy, 90% is hard"?⭐️⭐️⭐️ Check out more episodes and the videos at https://chrisbaran.com/podcast ⭐️ Join our FREE Facebook community for Salon Team Trainers today. https://facebook.com/groups/salonteamtraining ✅ Exclusive content on how to implement and scale your salon training the easy way ✅ Save time and learn what works from people just like you ✅ Get back to your mission of building the salon business and creating more jobs Learn more here - https://bit.ly/trainersplaybook Join our FB group - https://facebook.com/groups/salonteamtraining Follow us on IG - https://instagram.com/coachchrisbaran

Tune in to hear Joe Agnello, CEO + Co-Owner of City Image Barber Shop Chain, tell you exactly what you need to know to build and grow your business!Follow/subscribe to be the first to know when new episodes are released. Like what you hear? Leave us a review!Key Takeaways-Joe is not a barber, but his brother is. After helping his brother here and there with the business side of the barber shop, they had a chance to open a 2nd location, and Joe joined the team!-Do not pay yourself a lot in the beginning, and reinvest your money into your business if you plan on scaling (aka growing)-Having a 2nd location is not ONLY double the work; it is so much more than that! You have team building, decisions on how to divide your attention, and a lot less free time.-When the economy tanks and you have been stacking your money for reinvestment, you can relieve someone of their failing business. This is great for you and them because you expand, and you take a headache off of their hands! Taking over leases for struggling people can be a "God Send"!-Joe left a 6 figure job and went to a $0 salary initially.-When you have employees, you have a huge responsibility to keep the business secure.-If you want to retain your employees/team members, YOU MUST SHOW GROWTH.regular maintenance of the spacecommunity eventssocial media investmentsstaying relevant, not necessarily expanding to multiple locations-Aspiring Entrepreneurs:Be ready to sacrifice time with your familysacrifice time with your friendssacrifice football on Sundays or whatever pastime you are used to enjoyingsacrifice money-Your employees should not work more than you unless you have made it as far as you want in the expanding and building of your business...but you will still need to stay relevant and show growth to retain your employees -Business ownership is a mindset more than anything else....do you have the mindset of willingness to see the long game and make short-term sacrifices for long-term gains and fulfillment?-Build a cushion in your bank account before paying yourself more than the bare minimum.-Once you have enough money for payroll and to pay your bills, then build some emergency money of $5k-$10k (may vary if not a barber shop and geographic location)Playing it too safe is not good for businessyou are probably not paying your employees enoughyou are probably not staying on top of growing and maintaining your business -Having partners is a marriage and both should have the same mindset. -Partners should not come in just for moneyHumanize your team; do not make it all about numbers, but do not skip the numbers. The Hairdresser Strong Show is all about Salon Owners, Barber Shop Owners, Rising Stylists, and Seasoned Stylists sharing their experiences, successes, failures, and advice to inform, educate, and empower their Fellow Hairdresser. Gov. Newsom-DeSantis Debate Analysis Last week's Newsom-DeSantis debate had its fair share of memorable moments and one-liners. Each side believed they made their case for the future of their party and the country. We are going to take a closer look, beyond the soundbites, at what the debate accomplished through a California lens, what it means for Governor Newsom and if California politics are the future direction of the United States. Two long-time Sacramento political veterans, Republican Rob Stutzman and Democrat Robin Swanson, join Insight to discuss the Newsom-DeSantis debate and how it will shape the upcoming race in 2024 and beyond. Get a better barber. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is the #1 tip I share with everyone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead of immediately paying for a coach or mentor, attending tons of mastermind events, reading endless books, online courses, etc ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Again… get a better barber. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sure, those other things are crucial for growth, but if you're trying to network, learn & grow — it's best to start improving your day-to-day ‘lifestyle' activities directly where you live. Barbershops and Barbers welcome any & all walks of life. They're likely directly connected to the people who inspire you & what you're seeking to do. In this episode, I chat with Anthony Capuano, the owner of Tops Barbershop in Columbus, Ohio, and four of his talented barbers (Charlie, Joel, Kevin, and Cole). We talk about how we met, tactics & tips on how he & his team became successful barbers and much more ‘barbershop talk' I started going to Anthony for haircuts years ago and over that time, we have built a brotherhood bond. We consistently connect each other with valuable people, share information and resources to help each other accelerate our progress toward our goals. We also discussed some of the things his barbers learned over the years from working at previous barbershops versus working with Anthony at Tops Barbershop. They share some tips and advice for other barbers and barbershop owners who want to improve their skills, grow their clientele, and ultimately, increase their income. You can see some of their amazing work on their Instagram accounts. You can also book an appointment with them online or visit them at their location. Trust me, you won't regret it!
