We hear from people who were forced to leave their homes because they lost their jobs, people whose loved ones they believe died from the effects of the contaminated water, and indigenous leaders who have watched their community suffer unbearable grief and physical illness for years following the collapse. Cinema_PSYOPS_EP375: Full Franchise Fest: The Woman Trilogy (Main Feed) In Offspring, the town of Dead River, Maine is beset once again by a feral flesh-eating tribe who abduct locals for food or breeding stock eleven years after they were thought to have been slaughtered.  The nomadic cannibals draw the attention of the retired officer whom led that slaughter as a night of tragedy leaves only our titular character alive to heal from a nearly fatal wound.  In The Woman, our titular character then has to face off against a psychopath hiding in plain sight. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster's debut self-titled record incorporated elements of what would become their signature southern sound, whilst also leaning heavily on metalcore. The band would go on to refine their sound on their follow up record II in 2007 and 2009s III would again show the band's progression away from metalcore, and closer to southern rock. It was announced in 2016 that frontman Dallas Taylor had been hospitalized due to an ATV accident. Taylor had incurred multiple broken bones, internal bleeding, and significant head injuries. For the past 5 years, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster have been inactive due to Taylor's ongoing rehabilitation but the band has recently announced their return for Furnace Fest 2022 in their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. This is the ancestral land of the First People, the Kumeyaay.  In 1982, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve was established. Its goal was, and still is, to enhance scientific collaboration and research within the watershed that is split between two countries, Mexico and the United States. Three quarters of this massive water basin lies in Mexico, making this collaboration even more necessary and important.  Over time, various research partnerships were created to study erosion, sedimentation, and tropicalization. More recently, geography professors have studied erosion and sedimentation in Los Laureles Canyon in Tijuana, a sub-watershed that flows right into Border Field State Park. When it comes to the ocean, tropicalization is another significant collaboration topic.  In this episode we'll hear from some of the geographers and scientists working back and forth across the border, some of the challenges and rewards they've encountered, and ways to make studying this landscape and marine environment more accessible.
