The week of February 12, 2025 on The Metallica Report… We speak with the Metallica HQ Studio Runners—Jackson Langford, Jack Ketchum, Alex Coltharp, and Dana Lindstrom—about their tasks and duties around the building and beyond. From massive lunch runs to damaging cars and walls (with a purpose, of course) and from restringing guitars to joining the touring crew, some assignments are definitely less predictable than others.  Plus, as you've come to know, there's a lot of talent flowing through the confines of HQ beyond Metallica itself, and these runners are no exception. We hear a bit about Low Levee (Jackson and Alex's band) and Milk For The Angry (Dana's band), both entrenched in the local Bay Area music scene on top of being favorites among HQ staff. We also find out how Jack, a visual artist and screen printer specializing in classic-style and retro rock posters and t-shirts, helps James Hetfield level up his art supply stash. Thomas “Black Jack” Ketchum was an Old West cowboy turned outlaw. He and his gang robbed trains and stole livestock all throughout the American Southwest before coming to a disastrous end. Valahol a sűrű erdőségekkel borított Maine állambeli kisváros, Dead River tőszomszédságában egy elhagyatottnak tűnő hétvégi ház áll. Baráti társaság gyűlik most itt össze, hogy kipihenje a nyüzsgő nagyvárosok forgatagát. Az óceánparti kilátás, a jóleső elszigeteltség pihentető napokat ígér, ám a nyaralás hamar rémálomba csap át. A sötét rengetegből ugyanis kíváncsi szempárok figyelik őket.

What's changed? Everything. Brian Keene says the thing that's changed the most in the years since he sold his first story in 1997 is the rise of the indie press. “The Big Five weren't publishing horror novels in the mid 90s so you saw the indie press grow and blossom.”And now, maintains the wildly successful author of over fifty books, the gap between the Big Five and indie presses hasn't just narrowed, it's disappeared.Keene writes novels, comic books, short stories, and nonfiction, mostly in the horror, crime, and fantasy genres. They have been translated into over a dozen different languages and have won numerous awards. He's mentor to four promising young authors, including Stephen Kozeniewski, the author of the excellent and terrifying Skinwrapper. He has also written for such media properties as Doctor Who, Thor, Aliens, Harley Quinn, The X-Files, Doom Patrol, Justice League, Hellboy, Superman, and Masters of the Universe. From 2015 to 2020, he hosted the immensely popular The Horror Show with Brian Keene podcast. He also hosted (along with Christopher Golden) the long-running Defenders Dialogue podcast.Several of Keene's novels and stories have been adapted for film, including Ghoul, The Naughty List, The Ties That Bind, and Fast Zombies Suck. Several more are in-development. Keene also served as Executive Producer for the feature length film I'm Dreaming of a White Doomsday.Keene's work has been praised by The New York Times, The History Channel, The Howard Stern Show, CNN, The Huffington Post, Bleeding Cool, Publisher's Weekly, Fangoria, Bloody Disgusting, and Rue Morgue.Keene also serves on the Board of Directors for the Scares That Care 501c charity organization. He's starting his own IP studio. And if you're looking for one of the greatest Jack Ketchum stories you'll ever hear, it's at about the :31 min mark.

A Chilling On Screen Presence In The Lost, Cabin Fever 2, Red White & Blue, and The Devil's Carnival Belies This Thoughtful, Creative ActorIn 2006, Kevin was invited by his friends at Anchor Bay Entertainment to attend the Toronto premiere of prolific genre writer Jack Ketchum's new film “The Lost”. Directed by Chris Sivertson, the film is loosely based on the Pied Piper of Tucson murders. The films antagonist is an eccentric and sociopathic young man named Ray Pye. It's a challenging character to play as the whole film rests on his shoulders and the audience has to stay with the character but is never charmed by him like they are with Hannibal Lecter or sympathetic toward him like with Noman Bates. The character is played by Marc Senter and it's a staggering performance. Kevin said to several people after the film, “I can't wait to see what he does next!”From his role as the damaged and vulnerable Franki in “Red, White and Blue” to “The Scorpion” in Darren Lynn Bousman's bonkers musical “The Devil's Carnival”, Marc is an actor who brings something new and surprising to every role. He's one of those actors that when they appear on screen, you see everyone in the audience sit up as they know something special is about to happen.Marc and Kevin talk about doing your homework as an actor, using a hangover to craft a part of a performance and how deep to dig when playing a real-life psychopath. And unlike the many dark and sinister character's Marc has played, he a lovely guy who's open and always present. So, put some crushed beer cans in your boots and let's explore the mysterious mind of Marc Senter! Let's Go Play At The Adams' is often compared to Jack Ketchum's book The Girl Next Door and is the only novel by Mendel W. Johnson. Published in 1974, the year before I was born, I felt a need to review this especially since it has wildly varying praise and scorn. A current cult classic it seemed to be hard to get hold of through the years, being reissued a couple of times. In 1974 came out by the small company and these are those coveted hardbacks you might see for $100 at Abe books. That company was incidentally bought out by Harper. This was released in the 80s by Bantam Books and this is probably, I'm just guessing here, what most of the paperback copies at least see are from. Then, of course, with much fanfare, this book was chosen by Grady Hendrix and Will Erickson and whoever else is there is at play to be reprinted after being featured in Paperbacks from Hell. From what I understood going into this it was a grimy novel talking about coming of age and rape and violence and I wasn't sure if it was rape-revenge because I never got into spoiler territory with any of the descriptions. Episode 25 - Books That Should Be Movies   Welcome to The Horror Writers Podcast, the show with two horror authors discussing all things in the world of horror. Today, Zach and J. discuss books they'd like to see made into movies. With so many great stories out there waiting to be told in movies or on television, there's still far too many remakes being made (which J. makes a great point about during the discussion). Zach and J. list some horror and sci-fi books that would be great on the screen.   Remember to subscribe and to leave comments.   Be on the lookout for new episodes being posted every Sunday.   Episode Links:   “A Head Full of Ghosts” by Paul Tremblay on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1VbnMZ1   “Hater” by David Moody on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1kcGOxv   “The Martian” by Andy Weir on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1VXDLVs   Dark Arts Theater 1.2: Life On Mars w/ Andy Weir - http://darkartstheater.com/1-2/   “Wool” by Hugh Howey on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1kcH93j   “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1LUhK4n   Richard Laymon books on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1VXDORk   “KIN” by Kealan Patrick Burke on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1LfZIME   “Dark Hollow” Brian Keene on Amazon - http://amzn.to/1LUhQck   H.P.
