In this week's podcast SOFREP Editor-in-Chief Sean Spoonts talks with Taylor Grieten a former Navy Search and Rescue (SAR) swimmer and creator of Hell or High Seas.  Hell or High Seas is a documentary that depicts the journey of Taylor Grieten and writer Stephen O'Shea as they sail around Cape Horn, which, as Sean points out, is the most perilous sea route in the world. But at the same time, Hell or High Seas is also a journey of recovery and healing from PTSD. Sean was also a Navy SAR swimmer, so he and Taylor recount stories from SAR selection and the hardships candidates have to endure to graduate. The SAR community is a very small one. Whenever a SAR swimmer is lost his loss affects the whole community. This isn't easy as Sean and Taylor highlight. PTSD is a plague. Taylor, through Hell or High Seas, shows that PTSD can be beaten. But the journey, literally and figuratively, was a hard one. Taylor and Stephen endured a multitude of dangers from pirates to storms. Yet, their perseverance and courage allowed them to overcome. Now, Taylor wants to inspire other veterans and military members to do so. Taylor also serves the veteran community through his American Odysseus Sailing Foundation. The foundation is a non-profit organization that provides relief to veterans through sailing training and expeditions. 15 - 20 Haziran'da yapılacak Documentarist - 12. İstanbul Belgesel Günleri'ni festivali direktörü (ve eski Açık Radyo programcısı) Necati Sönmez'le konuştuk.

Herbert Brown, II is a native Charlestonian and a graduate of South Carolina State University, where he majored in Music Education. Herbie is a drummer, keys player, musical director, choir director and teacher. He has been playing drums since the age of 3 and started playing in church at a young age. In both high school and college, he played in multiple instrumental ensembles. After graduation, he moved to Maryland where he was an elementary and middle school music teacher and a high school marching band percussion instructor and assistant director. Herbie retired from teaching after 10 years to pursue his music career full time. He currently gives private voice and piano lessons. He recently released his first single, “The Struggle” under the artist name The Documentarist. His desire is that this song encourages people to have hope and keep going through their personal struggle.

10 Ekim 2014 Sinefil programcılarından Yeşim Burul'un konuğu olan belgesel yönetmeni ve Documentarist'in festival yöneticilerinden Emel Çelebi, 51. Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festivali'ne gölge düşüren sansür uygulamasını değerlendirdi ve bunun belgeselciler üzerindeki olası etkileri üzerine konuştu. Çelebi, sansür uygulaması sonrasında kendi filmi de dahil olmak üzere toplam 13 filmin belgesel film yarışmasından çekilmesi sonucunda Altın Portakal'da Ulusal Belgesel Film Yarışması'nın iptal edilmesini de yorumladı. Programın ikinci yarısında Sinefil'in diğer programcısı Melis Behlil ile transatlantik bağlantı kurarak vizyon filmlerini tanıtıp ve sinema dünyasından haberleri yorumladık.

Kapanış ve ödül töreni 9 Haziran akşamı Gezi Parkı'nda yapılacak. Alan Berliner'in tüm filmleri de önümüzdeki günlerde ücretsiz gösterilecek. Documentarist'ten Necati Sönmez Açık Dergi'deydi.

Açık Radyo'nun da medya sponsorları arasında olduğu Documentarist İstanbul Belgesel Günleri , 1-6 Haziran tarihleri arasında 6. kez seyirciyle buluşmaya hazırlanıyor. Açık Dergi'de, Documentarist ekibinden Necati Sömez ve Emel Çelebi bize festival hakkında bilgi verdiler.

1-6 Haziran tarihleri arasında beşincisi gerçekleşecek olan Documentarist bir grup bağımsız belgeselcinin inisiyatifiyle Avrasya Sanat Kolektifi (ASK) çatısı altında yapılıyor. Açık Dergi'de Documentarist ekibinden Necati Sönmez bize program, mekânlar ve etkinlikler hakkında bilgi verdi. Ayrıca Belgesel Günleri'nin Türkiye Panoraması bölümünde gösterilecek olan "Ana Dilim Nerede?" adlı filmin yönetmeni Veli Kahraman da stüdyoda konuğumuzdu.
