Today's episode is all about personal favourites. Over the next seven episodes of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW, I'll be counting down my TOP 25 SCORES OF THE 21st CENTURY. These are the soundtracks that have resonated with me the most, scores that I believe deserve a special place in any discussion about the best music of the last quarter-century. While my list may not align with everyone's tastes, it's a reflection of the music that has left a lasting impression on me. In this special series, you'll hear a mix of fan-favourite classics and perhaps a few surprises along the way. These are the scores that have stuck with me over the years, whether for their emotional depth, unforgettable themes, or the way they perfectly enhanced the films they were written for. I invite you to join me as we celebrate the music that has inspired and moved me personally. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this journey through 25 years of remarkable film music. In this opening episode, you'll hear three honourable mentions from composers John Williams, Frederic Talgorn and Alexandre Desplat. Part two will be available later in the week. —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Alex Brouns, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Larry Reese, Rudy Amaya, Stacy Livitsanis, Carl Wonders, Lee Wileman, Nathan Blumenfeld, Daniel Herrin, Scott Bordelon, James Alexander, Brett French, Ian Clark, Ron, Andy Gray, Joel Nichols, Steve Daniel, Corey O'Brien, John Leggett, Mim Williams, Grace Hamilton, Rob Kemp, Joel Nichols. —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. ···················································································· Schon abonniert? Dr. Deniz Ahmadinia joins Dr. Thema to share her personal psychological and cultural journey of being a cycle breaker and how you can become one too. They explore the role of self awareness, truth, and wisdom as you reclaim your authentic self. Generational patterns are present but don't have the final say on who we can become. Dr. Deniz Ahmadinia is a licensed clinical psychologist, survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and mother of two boys whose work bridges psychology, somatic and parts work, and intuitive energy healing. She holds a master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and she is an international speaker who has shared her work on embodied trauma healing with audiences in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Deniz works with clients in her Beverly Hills practice and through her online programs—Heal the Inner Child and Cycle Breaker Collective—guiding survivors in transforming trauma into truth, embodiment, and self-trust. Her integrative approach emerged through her own healing journey, using somatic and parts work to help clear the body of trauma's residue so that something greater—the self that remembers—can emerge. Take a listen and don't forget to like, comment, subscribe, and share. Music by Joy Jones.
It's episode 174 and the fellas are back from the international break to talk a draw ... that felt like a win! Matt, Ted, and Travis start off by chatting about the Frauen's big win and VfB II's draw and then dive into the return match in the Bundesliga, playing versus a team the boys in white and red haven't lost to in five straight! Along the way they talk Finn, Chris, and of course, the man of the match, one Deniz "Hat Trick" Undav! The guys wrap up the episode pondering the status of Silas and what lies in the future as the fellas from Stuttgart look to pack their suitcases for away trips to both Go Ahead Eagles and HSV. And of course they chat Steven Seagal!

Last time on THE FLAGSHIP SHOW, I presented part one of my two-part interview with film music journalist, Cinematic Sound Radio host and friend, Jason Drury. If you haven't listened to that episode, I highly recommend you do so before listening to this episode. In part two, Jason and I talk about feedback from the public, Jason's James Horner audio documentary, how he came to be a member of Cinematic Sound Radio, his future aspirations, and his relationship with the late recording engineer, Mike Ross-Trevor. I thank Jason for taking the time to talk with me and to open up candidly, not only about his passions but also about sharing some of the deeper personal stories. Here now is part one of my chat with Jason, a discussion which took place on a warm fall evening in my dimly lit studio on September 25, 2025 —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Alex Brouns, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Larry Reese, Rudy Amaya, Stacy Livitsanis, Carl Wonders, Lee Wileman, Nathan Blumenfeld, Daniel Herrin, Scott Bordelon, James Alexander, Brett French, Ian Clark, Ron, Andy Gray, Joel Nichols, Steve Daniel, Corey O'Brien, John Leggett, Mim Williams, Grace Hamilton, Rob Kemp. —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. Today's program is a special one. This is the first interview that I've conducted since way back in 2000, when I interviewed Michael Giacchino during the MEDAL OF HONOR: UNDERGROUND recording sessions in Seattle. Maybe one day I'll unearth that interview for you all. Back on September 25th of this year, I sat down with CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO's own Jason Drury, who will be releasing his 50th episode of THE ARCHIVE on this podcast soon. Jason was visiting Robert Daniels and me once more, and during one of his last evenings here, he made his way to the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO studios to have a chat about his lifelong fascination with film music, which began at an early age with his discovery of the music of Barry Grey, John Williams and James Horner, among others. We also chatted about turning his passion into broadcasting, first on the internet radio station KASPAAR in his home of Kent, England, and then joining CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, where he completed his magnum opus, a three-part documentary on James Horner. Afterwards, Jason created two new podcast series for CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, called THE ARCHIVE and TALKING SOUNDTRACKS. Since 2021, Jason has expanded his influence as a writer and interviewer for FILM SCORE MONTHLY, engaging with many of today's leading composers. Beyond his broadcasting and journalistic work, he remains an avid movie-goer and cricket enthusiast. As a proud member of the INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC CRITICS ASSOCIATION (IFMCA), Jason continues to champion the world of film music, sharing his insight, enthusiasm, and deep appreciation for the art form with audiences around the world. We also delve into Jason's personal journey, including his experiences with bullying and the lasting impact it had on his confidence. He shares how film music became a vital source of comfort and strength during those difficult years. Ultimately, that passion led him to podcasting, which helped him rebuild his self-belief and connect with others who share his love for the art form. Here now is part one of my chat with Jason, a discussion which took place on a warm fall evening in my dimly lit studio on September 25, 2025 Enjoy! —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Rudy Amaya, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Nathan Blumenfeld, Lee Wileman, Daniel Herrin, Scott Bordelon, James Alexander, Brett French, Ian Clark, Ron, Andy Gray, Joel Nichols, Steve Daniel, Corey O'Brien, John Leggett, Mim Williams, Grace Hamilton, Rob Kemp. —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. We chat with the brothers about how jazz came into their lives, the role their family played in supporting their path, and memories from the first choreographies. Malik and Deniz share their approach to practicing, improvising, being patient when training, developing style, and finding mentorship. We also talk about organizing the festival “Jumpin' at Istabul,” the dance community in Turkey, and dealing with setbacks. Photo by Sara Pista taken at Spring Lindy Weekend.
Deniz is a Turkish Cypriot mother and communication expert with years of experience in the politics of the island. I invited her on the show after she posted on social media, her 8-year old daughter speaking both Greek and Turkish. This post came after news broke that there were talks amongst both communities and groups actively involved with bi-communal work, to introduce both languages to primary schools. Nationalist parties and individuals rallied against this initiative leaving people and mothers like Deniz and myself wondering how we will ever unify our island and our children. Today on the show, Deniz speaks about her decision to raise a bi-communcal child, who attends a Greek Cypriot public school and the challenges they face. We also talk about our leaders, how to communicate better and fight the hate we see and our roles as mothers raising children on a divided island. Mentioned in the podcast:- Solo in Greek on the attack of the Imagine project. - Interview in Greek with Skevi Koukouma on the 1974 rapes.- Mothers for Peace - A discussion Deniz's recommendations for those interested in bicommunal groups: - Songbirds Intercommunal Choir for kids which is absolutely free of charge and where kids learn our most Cypriot songs in both official languages. - UWC Cyprus for High school students and youth in general who would like to have an amazing high school experience abroad and bicommunal groups like Hade. - For middle aged and above, Enorasis Social Club where they explore bicommunally our island and beyond. - For women, the bicommunal women's network under the auspices of the Irish embassy.- For those in politics, become a part of the Ledra Palace bicommunal parties network under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy. Easy Turkish Podcast'in yeni bölümüne hepiniz hoş geldiniz. Ben Emin. Support Easy Turkish and get interactive transcripts and live vocabulary for all our episodes: easyturkish.fm/membership

Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Sadly, and without much fanfare, we lost another dedicated film music fan and a very good friend, Tom Kiefner. November 2, 1947 – June 13, 2025. He was a gentle soul, a passionate baseball fan and a skilled photographer. I initially met Tom in the early 2000s when I joined a message board on scorereviews.com, which is now maintitles.net. There, I read Tom's enthusiastic postings about melodic, orchestral Golden Age scores, and classical music. He would wax poetic about Korngold, Rozsa, Waxman, Herrmann, Tiomkin, Newman and Hugo Friedhofer who peened his favourite score of all time, THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES. He would often express his admiration for early television shows and the music composed for them including Lalo Schifrin's MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and Morton Stevens' HAWAII-FIVE-O. I befriended Tom, and we talked about film music and his other interests, such as photography and baseball. He once told me that he casually chatted with Wayne Gretzky, whose son played for one of the teams Tom was photographing that day. The discussions would continue to include Hammer Horror films, Les Baxter, Charles Gerhardt, and Tom's dream of starting a website dedicated solely to Golden Age scores. I thought it was a great idea. He then offered me money to create the website for him. Even if I could… I don't have the skills to do so… I would never take Tom's money. I then suggested he contact Bregt De Lange, who designed the maintitles.net website. GoldenScores.com launched in 2006. After the site closed a few years later, Tom moved his film music essays and reviews to his new WordPress blog, Film and Classical Music: Neglected Art. There, Tom's writings, which began in 2006, are archived. His last review was on May 4, 2022. In 2010, Tom accepted an invitation to guest-host his own episode of Cinematic Sound Radio. I told him he could play whatever he wanted, as long as it was Golden Age-themed. These are the original show notes. FILM MUSIC MIX | GOLDEN AGE SCORES with guest host TOM KIEFNER from FILM MUSIC: THE NEGLECTED ART On this edition of FILM MUSIC MIX guest host Tom Kiefner from the film music blog, FILM MUSIC: THE NEGLECTED ART, will take us on a journey through the wonderful sounds of Hollywood's Golden Age. You will hear music by Bernard Herrmann from the film HANGOVER SQUARE featuring the Concert Macabre. You'll also hear a couple of selections from THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES by Hugo Friedhofer (Tom's favorite score) and a spectacular suite from HORROR OF DRACULA by James Bernard. Afterwards, enjoy the Americana sounds of Aaron Copland with THE RED PONY and finish off with the tune that got Tom into film music; the up tempo theme from PETER GUNN by Henry Mancini. So, on today's very special episode, and in honour of one of the great champions of film music and my friend, we proudly rebroadcast Tom's show, which first premiered on September 3, 2010. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Welcome to Cinematic Sound Radio's celebration of the 35th anniversary of Film Score Monthly. In 1990, a young film music fan named Lukas Kendall began what was to become Film Score Monthly with a Xeroxed newsletter sent to a handful of fans who signed up to receive the snail mail newsletter. From there, the newsletter turned into one of the biggest soundtrack publications in the world. The magazine's run ended in 2005 at 150 issues. It ceased printing due to budgetary reasons. The magazine, however, still lives on in the digital world as FSM On-Line. A byproduct of the magazine was a record label, which began in 1998 with the release of Jerry Goldsmith's STAGECOACH / THE LONER. Lukas would go onto produce 250 FSM CDs, many of them long-sought-after "holy grails." The label would cease production in 2013. The website and popular message board are still running, but are in desperate need of updating. That's where you come in. Lukas is currently raising money on Kickstarter to help fund a brand-new website, message board, book, CD and more! As of the release of this episode on June 20th, 2025, the Kickstarter has reached its initial goal of $25,000 and is currently in its stretch run to raise an additional $25,000. If you've already pledged, thank you, but if you haven't, then please head over to the Kickstarter by CLICKING HERE and donate what you can to help keep this film music institution running smoothly for the next 35 years! To celebrate FSM's 35 years, I'm going to play for you my top five favourite Film Score Monthly CDs of all time, featuring the music of Franz Waxman, Bronislau Kaper, Johnny Green, Stu Phillips, Elmer Bernstein, Alexander Courage and Jerry Goldsmith. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Welcome to the first-ever FREE edition of the FRIDAY PLAYLIST. Back in August of 2024, as a way to quickly produce some new content while I worked on the main podcast program, I came up with a weekly segment, exclusive to Patreon, called THE CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO FRIDAY PLAYLIST. Basically, this was to be a revival of my old school Film Music Mix programs, where I played a variety of unrelated cues with commentary. Many of the FRIDAY PLAYLIST episodes feature a 7-10 minute opening commentary about what I was going to play, and then you could sit back and listen to an hour of uninterrupted film music curated by yours truly, as well as members of the Patreon. And in case I couldn't put on a show, other hosts of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO would step in for me. It was so successful that I spent the vast majority of my podcasting time producing FRIDAY PLAYLIST and, unfortunately, neglecting the main feed. So, I decided to come up with a compromise. Every month, I will attempt to produce two FRIDAY PLAYLIST shows (or other themed programs) a month for the main feed and two shows a month that will live behind the paywall. Those Patreon-exclusive playlists will feature far more interesting cues from hard-to-find scores and commercially unreleased music. If you want to hear those programs, then please head over to OUR PATREON and sign up. Ok, with that out of the way, please enjoy today's episode dedicated to SWORD AND SORCERY films. You'll hear selections from HERCULES (Velazquez), HUNDRA (Morricone), BEOWULF (Silvestri), KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE (Rozsa), THE MISTS OF AVALON (Holdridge), THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER (Whitaker) and HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEY (LoDuca). Deniz Ari: Why Great Product Owners Listen—Communication Lessons from Product Ownership Extremes The Great Product Owner: The Power of Clear Communication Deniz describes a truly exemplary Product Owner who excelled through outstanding communication skills. This PO was an exceptional listener who maintained openness throughout all interactions. They ensured the team thoroughly understood requirements and priorities, always clearly articulating the rationale behind decisions. With a well-defined product vision and transparent prioritization process, this PO successfully bridged the gap between the development team and clients. Deniz emphasizes how this clear communication style naturally fostered team motivation, as everyone understood not just what they were building, but why it mattered. The Bad Product Owner: The Tyrant PO Deniz shares a challenging experience with a problematic Product Owner during what initially appeared to be a straightforward public sector migration project with adequate budget and timeline. Despite these favorable conditions, the situation deteriorated when the PO began pushing the team to work overtime, overstepping boundaries by questioning architectural decisions, and inappropriately assuming Scrum Master responsibilities. Described as a "tyrant" or "despot," this PO exhibited extremely poor communication skills and preferred dictating rather than collaborating. When Deniz attempted to address these issues, the situation became so toxic that it affected Deniz's health, ultimately leading to their decision to leave the project. The PO subsequently claimed no Scrum Master was needed. Deniz reflects that sometimes the best option is to recognize when a situation cannot be changed and to move on. Self-reflection Question: What boundaries would you establish with a dominant Product Owner, and at what point would you decide that the situation cannot be improved? Deniz Ari: Stakeholder Management Rhythms for Successful Scrum Masters Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. For Deniz, successful Scrum Masters create environments with positive team dynamics, easy communication, and a focus on continuous improvement that leads to valuable deliverables. The key indicators include whether team members can speak freely, whether there's trust between team members, and if the team feels like "a safe place to fail." Deniz recommends admitting your own mistakes in front of the team to model vulnerability, continuously observing team interactions, and noticing whether teams openly discuss obstacles. For stakeholder management, Deniz suggests establishing regular catch-up calls with leaders to keep team messages in the conversation and setting up routine discussions with stakeholders to maintain alignment. Featured Retrospective Format for the Week: The Worst Retro Deniz shares a playful yet effective retrospective format called "The Worst Retro," conducted using a MURAL board. The session begins with an energy/mood check to establish the team's current state. Then it moves into three key sections: what team members remember from the sprint, how they could make the next sprint worse, and finally deciding what actions to take next. Deniz explains that the power of this approach lies in using humor to discuss serious problems—by asking how to make things worse, team members can indirectly highlight what's already not working. This format creates an informal, relaxed environment where people feel comfortable addressing challenging topics that might otherwise remain unspoken. Self-reflection Question: How might introducing an element of humor or "reverse thinking" help your team discuss problems they've been avoiding in traditional retrospective formats?
