Many of our listeners would be aware of the work of righttoknow.ie, but you might not know that they're back in court next week, this time the Supreme Court, in another battle for transparency. Co-founder and very, very busy guy, Gavin Sheridan joined us to tell us all about it. Then Gavin, who also compiles a excellent substack newsletter, HERE, talks to us about the frustration of watching the science around COVID change, while the mitigation strategies remain the same. It has nothing to do with Katherine Zappone. This week, Adrian goes into depth about the problems around Minister Simon Coveney's hacked phone. Together with freedom-of-information expert Gavin Sheridan and privacy expert Daragh O'Brien, the minutae of what we know, and what the law is, around Simon Coveney's hacked phone are parsed in detail.
SOME SNIPPETS. I'm culling some inner illuminations from John Peavoy and Gavin Sheridan as they share moments from #othervoices in Dingle. I'm currently working on spotlighting people development through final year academic modules I teach at http://clonmeldigital.com and I know if I deliver upskilling as a badge of honour, I will be successful. I should also ensure identity rights are on several academic modules. As we continue renovating our home, I realise we need an ethernet connection from our router to our gaming screens. That will be challenging. QUESTION: Do you use AI to help you write smarter?FINDINGS: The Xioami Mi Smart Band 4 is only 40 euro. I'm intrigued by the 160 euro Terrazzo Wireless Charging stand.CURRENTLY LISTENING to @documentally on metal detectors, @adrianweckler on post-founder depression, CBC Spark on failure, and @freakonomics on "how to change your mind". The group of panelists brought together academics and practitioners who will contribute their expertise, insight and academic research to the discussion. Transparency campaigner Gavin Sheridan joins Hugh Linehan and Pat Leahy to discuss Facebook's announcement that it will no longer accept foreign advertisements relating to the upcoming referendum on the Eighth Amendment and the need for new legislation on political campaigning in the digital era. But first, Pat explains how the Dáil has failed to bring in mandatory reporting in the face of opposition from health professionals, as the controversy over failures in the State’s cervical screening service continues.
Ireland is fighting it out on whether or not to remove its constitutional abortion ban in a referendum on May 25. We investigate how tactics seen in the Trump and Brexit campaigns have come to Ireland, turning it into a battleground for progressive and conservative forces in a global culture war. Naomi O'Leary's deep dive into Facebook advertising with journalist and transparency campaigner Gavin Sheridan leads us down a rabbit hole that leads to Houston, Texas. Tim Mc Inerney asks Minister of State for the Diaspora, Ciaran Cannon, whether the strict abortion laws he supports is causing young women to emigrate. We hear from a 23-year-old who spends his spare time knocking door-to-door in Wicklow to keep abortion illegal in Ireland. And we meet the woman behind "In Her Shoes", the Facebook page that has caused a viral outpouring of confessions from women who have suffered under the 8th Amendment. Special thanks to Aine O'Neill. In the second episode of Adventures in Information, I talk to Gavin Sheridan. Jack is joined in studio by Gavin Sheridan, a journalist pioneer, who has tirelessly campaigned for transparency among public bodies. He took a risk and left his first full time job at the Irish Examiner to join Storyful. Gavin co-founded political website KildareStreet.com and TheStory.ie which combs through data and promotes transparency in public life.
“There’s nothing new here” slår Gavin Sheridan fast.
