Check out the work Grace is organising for Amnesty International, PROJECT PROTECT PROTEST a weeklong act-in for future protest at Project Arts Centre, from 5-10 December. My friend Grace Dyas is still relatively young but she's already something of an Irish legend. Grace is an artist, activist, writer, director, producer, and performer. Originally from south inner-city Dublin, she now lives on the Inis Oirr, one of the beautiful Aran Islands off the coast of County Galway. Grace has an incredible portfolio of work and award-winning achievements to her name. She has created films, plays, live performances and large-scale projects with people who had never done art before. She has made art about all facets of addiction, and topics such as sex work, social housing, political conflict and corruption, abortion, and the legacy of Church and State abuse in Ireland, mostly with survivors of Magdalene Laundries. Grace writes on her website, “I make art because I know it changes lives for the better”. We're going to dive into some of these areas and more in this rich conversation. We also talk a good bit about emotional health and some of the challenges Grace has been through and I want to say if you find yourself in need of help or support, please do reach out to a friend, a GP, a relevant helpline, or support service in whatever country you are in. It's also important that we look out for each other these days when so many people are under pressure.

There were some people in a tizzy about the prospect of a Sinn Fein led Government. It looked like the markets weren’t responding very positively. But by the end of the week they had recovered all those losses. As a country should we be concerned at all about what the markets think? We ask activist Grace Dyas and CEO Paul Sommerville.

In 2014 Maria Walsh became the first openly gay woman to win the Rose of Tralee. That was one year before Ireland voted for same-sex marriage and since then the Mayo woman has remained in the spotlight with a broadcasting career and commitment to mental health advocacy. Now the 31 year old is standing as a Fine Gael candidate in the upcoming European elections. She talks to Women’s Podcast host Kathy Sheridan about her vision for Ireland and the strong commitment she has to her Catholic faith despite the attitude of that organisation to the LGBTQ community. In this episode, Kathy also speaks to Grace Tallon, the woman behind And Still I Rise, an event being held on International Women’s Day, Friday March 8th, in the Pillar Room of the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. Grace is one of the members of Sounding The Feminists and her event features only music composed by women including sets from DJ Mona Lisa and spoken word from Grace Dyas and others. In advance of this Saturday’s march we’ve put together a few clips of some of the wonderful people we’ve spoken to over the last few months. Firstly, UN Special Rapporteur Leilani Farha tells us why housing is a human right and not a commodity for Fine Gael to trust to the market. Then Hugh Brennan, of the O Cualann Cohousing Scheme, explains how they build communities through really affordable homes in a model that can be replicated. Next 2 Activists from Take Back The City tell us, from within the occupied Frederick Street building, why acts of civil disobedience are necessary when the State puts the rights of land hoarders above the human right to adequate housing. Actor, playwright and activist, Grace Dyas, asks why don’t we value each other more and suggests that by putting people at the centre of what we do we can lift everyone up. Poet and writer Emmet Kirwan talks about living in a country governed by those who care about manners than corruption, and how those living in poverty are seen to be somehow deserving of it, while corporate and political corruption is excused away as just the way of the world. Finally, Senator Lynn Ruane talks about her own experience of raising these issues with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. Grace Dyas is back with her THEATREclub campaigning show HEROIN, updated to reflect the current state of Ireland's drug problem, with additional writing by Rachael Keogh. So much of our political discourse is dominated by statistics and financial jargon. Well our guest, writer, producer, a founder of Theatre Club and activist, Grace Dyas thinks we need a national conversation on more than numbers, we need to talk about our values. Grace makes the case, brilliantly, for a honest and open debate about who we are and what we should aspire to be as a country. Not a Reboot as much as it is a New Path! Talking to children about adult issues can be a minefield. On this week’s Sparking change, we talk LGBT issues and families in the classroom, and how it’s not just about sex. We shoot the breeze with the seriously funny hosts of the Echo Chamber podcast. And finally, we talk to Grace Dyas about bringing home the stories of the Irish women travelling to access abortion services.  In her editorial this week, Dil shares her experiences as an LGBT parent, some of the insensitive and downright bizarre questions she and her family have been asked, and reminds us that when it comes down to it, love is what makes a family. Cecelia Gavin: Different Families, Same Love (6:58) Cecelia Gavin is the chairperson of the INTO LGBT Teacher’s Group and talks to us about the group’s upcoming Different Families, Same Love competition, focused on opening up discussions around LGBT issues and non-traditional family structures in the classroom. Tony Groves and Martin McMahon: The Echo Chamber Podcast (38:15) The promise: there will be shenanigans. Tony and Martin of the irreverently clued-in Echo Chamber Podcast join us to discuss the need for independent media, how best to get your local TD’s attention, and importantly, how a tortoise can grow to the size of a bus wheel. Grace Dyas: Bring the Stories Home (1:11:50) 70 women per week travel from Ireland abroad to access safe abortion services. We are joined once again by the inspirational Grace Dyas, to talk about the ‘Bring the Stories Home’ campaign, the complexity of the movement to repeal, and the importance of not silencing those we disagree with.

Here they discuss just how influential their time with DYT was in shaping them as theatre makers, chart the evolution of the company from the intimate “Rough” to the epic “2010”, reveal the true extent of their “Manic Ambition,” and give us a sneak peak at their plans for total global domination.
