This week in Northwest Montana, host Taylor Inman breaks down the headlines you need to know - from a frightening grizzly bear encounter on one of Glacier National Park's most popular trails to a primary election that reshuffled the political landscape across Flathead County.A hiker was airlifted to Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell after a surprise grizzly encounter on the Grinnell Glacier Trail - the second bear incident in Glacier National Park in less than a month, following a fatal attack on the Mount Brown Trail in early May. Taylor covers trail closures, safety reminders, and everything we know about both incidents.Tuesday's primary election brought big wins and surprising upsets across Northwest Montana. Incumbent Rep. Courtenay Sprunger held her seat in House District 7, Sheriff Brian Heino cruised to an uncontested November run, and Sheena Sterling flipped the Flathead County Clerk and Recorder race - all while razor-thin margins in Whitefish-area districts signal a highly competitive general election ahead. And if you're planning a summer trip to the Flathead Valley, you need to hear this. Glacier Park International Airport is suspending service for several weeks this July for runway repairs, Going-to-the-Sun Road shuttle reservations are now required, and Whitefish Mountain Resort is navigating a slower-than-expected booking season. 1. Zaruret olmadan namaz kılınan yerdeki şeyleri düzeltmek: Çünkü böyle yapmak boş bir hareket ve oyundur. Ancak mecburiyet olursa, müstesna. Namaz kılarken çakıl taşlarını düzelten Ebû Zerr (r.a.)'e Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) 3. Esnemek, gerinmek: Çünkü Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) namazda esnemeyi menetmiştir. Kişiyi zorlarsa, o zaman mümkün mertebe yutulmaya çalışılır. El de ağzın üzerine konur. Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) bu durumda böyle davranılmasını emretmiştir. 4. Gözleri yummak mekruhtur: Çünkü Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) bunu yasaklamıştır. 5. Peygamber (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurmuştur: “Namazda bile olsanız, o ikisini öldürün.” (Ebû Dâvud, Tirmizî, Neseî, İbn Mâce) (Mavsılî, El-İhtiyar Li-Ta'lîlî'l-Muhtar, c. 1, s. 125-126)
Major changes could be coming to Northwest Montana — from fishing regulations and downtown Kalispell cruising to jail oversight battles and a troubling Libby drug court case. In this episode of News Now from the Daily Inter Lake, reporter Taylor Inman breaks down four of the week's biggest headlines impacting the Flathead Valley and beyond.Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing sweeping fishing regulation changes aimed at protecting endangered bull trout and native trout populations. The proposals could eliminate possession limits for certain non-native species in western Montana waters, including Flathead Lake, while expanding restrictions on bait and tackle use across several rivers and streams. Then, the growing debate over Friday night cruising in downtown Kalispell continues as city leaders, business owners and car enthusiasts search for ways to preserve the classic Americana tradition while cracking down on reckless driving, burnouts and speeding along Main Street. Also in this episode, Lake County commissioners are moving toward shifting jail administration away from the Sheriff's Office, citing lawsuits, liability concerns and accountability issues. The controversial proposal has sparked questions about detention officer retirement benefits and the future of county jail operations. And finally, a Libby man previously convicted on fentanyl and methamphetamine possession is facing renewed legal trouble after authorities say he failed treatment court, violated probation conditions and continued struggling with addiction.Northwest Montana deserves strong news reporting. This week on News Now, Daily Inter Lake reporter Taylor Inman covers the biggest headlines shaping northwest Montana — from new environmental findings in Flathead waters to major legal battles and political controversy in Kalispell.New statewide testing found no evidence of PFAS “forever chemicals” in Flathead Lake or the Flathead River, making them the only Montana waterbodies tested that showed no signs of contamination. The findings come amid growing concern over PFAS exposure and fish consumption advisories across the state.A federal judge has ruled that a Title IX lawsuit involving alleged sexual assault and hazing within the Glacier High School wrestling program can move forward to trial. The lawsuit accuses Kalispell Public Schools of retaliating against a parent and student who reported concerns to authorities.Plus, an effort is underway to recall Kalispell Mayor Ryan Hunter following controversy surrounding his tie-breaking vote on the city's land use plan. Supporters of the recall claim Hunter violated public trust, while the mayor says the accusations are politically motivated.Northwest Montana deserves strong news reporting. In 1943, the Bengal famine killed over three million people — not because food didn't exist, but because British wartime policy redirected it to Allied forces fighting World War II. It was in this moment of collective grief that Faiz Ahmad Faiz wrote what many consider the most important nazm in modern Urdu literature.Mujhse Pehli Si Mohabbat Meri Mehbooba Na Maang opens the second section of Naqsh-e-Fariyadi — Faiz's debut collection — and marks his decisive turn from romantic poetry toward what he called poetry with purpose. Faiz signals this shift himself, prefacing the section with a line from Persian poet Nizami: "Dil-e-ba-farokhtam, jaan-e-khareedam" — I have sold my heart and bought a soul.Kshitij and Burair sit with that line. With the poem. With what it demands of a reader. In this episode, Kshitij attempts to read the nazm aloud — and the weight of it catches in his voice more than once. Some poems don't let you stay comfortable. This is one of them.

Plus, a new citizen science effort is tracking osprey populations across the region, giving researchers valuable insight into nesting habits and ongoing environmental threats. In the Mission Valley, a long-awaited indoor ice arena project gets a major boost from a multimillion-dollar state tourism grant, bringing the community closer to a new hub for recreation and economic activity. And in Lincoln County, prosecutors are pursuing a complex case involving an alleged $1.3 million scheme targeting a vulnerable adult in a multi-state investigation involving fraud, property transfers, and financial exploitation.Northwest Montana deserves strong news reporting. Host Taylor Inman breaks down the biggest stories impacting communities across the Flathead Valley and Northwest Montana. Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze at the Courtyard Apartments near Kalispell's Airport Road, preventing serious injuries while several residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation.Meanwhile, thousands of residents across Lincoln and Flathead counties were left without power after a severe windstorm swept through the region, knocking down trees, closing schools and forcing travel restrictions as crews worked to restore electricity. The episode also examines a court development in Lake County, where a Ronan man entered an Alford plea in a case involving allegations of abuse of a vulnerable person.Additional stories include coverage of a Democratic congressional forum held in Whitefish as candidates compete to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke, a proposed Kalispell policy change that could eliminate public hearings for subdivision proposals, and new logging activity tied to the Frozen Moose Project in the North Fork area of the Flathead National Forest.A big thank you to our headline sponsor for the News Now podcast, Loren's Auto Repair! Northwest Montana's wildest headlines are front and center this week on News Now with your host Taylor Inman. We lead with the conclusion of a massive Flathead Valley crime spree as Michael Ray Downing, the man infamously dubbed the "Cocaine Fairy" by local law enforcement, reaches a plea deal following his arrest for a string of burglaries totaling over $1 million in stolen property. Downing's legal saga comes to a head alongside the bizarre case of Dustin Lawrence Oswald, who was recently sentenced to a suspended jail term and legally ordered to leave the state of Montana forever after threatening an officer during a public urination arrest in Whitefish. The episode shifts to urgent safety news as the Flathead Avalanche Center warns of "high" avalanche danger across the Whitefish, Swan, and Flathead ranges following a series of storms that have left the backcountry snowpack in a "touchy" and dangerous state. We also dive into local environmental efforts in Polson, where the Flathead Lakers and Polson Bay Golf Course are launching a $150,000 public-private partnership to combat E. coli and algal blooms impacting Flathead Lake's water quality. In political news, we break down the heating intraparty competition in Northwest Montana as the candidate filing period reveals major Republican primary showdowns for the state House, Senate, and Public Service Commission. Finally, we celebrate local storytelling with a look at two documentaries filmed on the Flathead Indian Reservation, "The Water Keepers" and "Paving the Way," which are currently contending for the prestigious Big Sky Award at the 2026 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.A big thank you to our headline sponsor for the News Now podcast, Loren's Auto Repair!
