In this episode, as we near the end of this current series of the podcast, we chat with Steph Phillips the founder of World Childless Week. World Childless Week is a relatively new initiative raising awareness of being childless not by choice. Steph tells us how the interest in this week, but also across the year, has increased dramatically over the last 2 years. We also talked about the differing terminology used to explain living without children and how Steph as learned to own the term ‘Childless'. The https://worldchildlessweek.net/ (World Childless Week )website encourages people to submit blogs and videos to get their voices and stories heard. Steph has noticed in recent weeks that this is gaining more momentum and people are wanting to take ownership of their childlessness. The COVID pandemic has highlighted the difficulties in the workplace faced by childless people – the discussions on Zoom about children, children seen on Zoom etc. However, the pandemic has also encouraged greater awareness surrounding mental health for example and Steph also sees this as a positive for sharing childless awareness. The sharing the commonality of childlessness has had a profound effect on Steph and others, providing validation and an outlet for grief. We also talked about finding the humour and laughter that can come with sharing stories and that it is possible to come through the dark days. We discuss the narrative surrounding childlessness and how frequent the insensitive comments are heard, such as ‘Have you thought about adoption'. This needs to change. Steph recommends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dth5LNrJ7Dg&t=42s (listening to this webinar )- which will help to highlight what not to say to a childless individual. Did you know that there is more childless men than women? Men rarely speak out, but they need to be heard more. Steph talks about the desire many childless individuals have to leave a legacy and why it is important for us not to be forgotten. Steph now tries to leave a legacy in a different way – she may compliment someone on their leggings or let a car out in front of her. This small action can make their day and never hurts to be kind. Next steps, Steph hopes to make a difference in raising awareness of childlessness in the workplace. Steph welcomes submissions on any topic for the website. "Your true colors...are beautiful, like a rainbow..." Billy Steinberg's lyrics were originally inspired by his mother but his song writing partner Tom Kelly recognised it's universal appeal and with a slight re-write, it became the song that Cyndi Lauper made famous the world over. Growing up in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Ken Kidd could never truly be himself. Watching Cyndi Lauper perform True Colors on MTV showed him that it was OK to be his authentic self. Years later he describes his pride at watching the Rainbow Flag being raised above the Stonewall National Monument as he and other LGBTQ campaigners sang that same song. Lesley Pyne learnt to sing 'True Colors' with her local choir. It's a song that resonated with her more than she had ever expected. After six attempts at IVF, Lesley had had to come to terms with the knowledge that she wouldn't be able to have children. It wasn't easy. It has taken years of digging deep to work through the grief but now she helps others to find their true colours and firmly believes that they can be beautiful, like a rainbow. And in 1999, Caroline Paige, a jet and helicopter navigator in the Royal Air Force, became the first ever openly serving transgender officer in the British military. She rose above the extraordinary challenges placed before her to show her 'True Colors' whilst serving her country on the front line in the war on terror. Featuring songwriter Billy Steinberg and music from The Rock Choir Produced by Nicola Humphries.

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by once again. It is truly appreciated. In this episode, I had the great opportunity to interview United Kingdom based childless not by choice advocate Lesley Pyne.   We discussed her 10-year struggle with childlessness before coming to terms with the fact that she would not have children. We talked about the fact that as women around the world who advocate for the childless not by choice community, this is not a competition.  We need to help where we are. In this interview, Lesley and I discuss her becoming a Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Master Practitioner, as she traveled her road of childlessness. We talked about how NLP helped her, and how she in turn uses it to help others. As our interview continued, we talked about whether or not NLP completely heals, and the fact that it is a great deal of help, though not necessarily something that completely helps.   We talked about how time heals to some extent, the journey through childlessness. In fact, Lesley, mentioned that she is now happy with her childlessness, which of course solicited more questions!  It was an interesting conversation. And I hope this interview is as helpful to you, as it was to me. Thank you so much Lesley Pyne for doing what you do, where you are.        Lesley Pyne's Contact Information: http://www.lesleypyne.co.uk/   My contact information: Website: www.childlessnotbychoice.net www.civillamorgan.com   Facebook: booksbycivillamorgan Twitter: @civilla1 Instagram: @civilla1 Pinterest: Civilla M. Welcome! Today’s guest is Lesley Pyne, who is a leading coach for childless women in the UK, helping them to heal and create fulfilling lives. After unsuccessful IVF treatments, she spent ten years hiding from the truth of her life. She trained in techniques that helped her learn to let go of the grief and sadness. Lesley now uses her story, firsthand experience and professional skills to help other women heal. She facilitates them in being able to have a deep understanding of their experience, so they can embrace an adventurous, fulfilling life. Lesley's warmth and empathy shines through. In this episode, you’ll hear: Lesley pursued pregnancy through six rounds of IVF and then determined that “that was enough.” She is childless through circumstance. It took ten years of healing before she found herself in the place to be comfortable talking about her experience. “Childlessness is the biggest gift in my life because without it I wouldn’t have the fulfilling life I have now.” Lesley shares the lengths that she and her husband went through to “give it our all and be able to look back with no regrets.” As women, we don’t always realise the limits on our fertility as we get older. During Lesley’s grieving process, she felt dark and alone for about a year, but she and her husband drew together and grew closer. She joined a support group and found powerful encouragement from sharing stories with the other members. The more that you share your story, the stronger you become. Lesley recommends to others that they believe that their life can absolutely be fulfilling, even without a child. She advises that women take advantages of the resources available and search out the help that is right for them. Making a difference and helping other women gives her meaning and purpose. Being in a choir helps, as does exploring different things and expanding her comfort zone. The major benefits of a childless life for Lesley are flexibility and freedom to do the things she wants and enjoys. Today’s Guest I originally met today's guest, Lesley Pyne, at one of Corrina Gordon-Barnes' You Inspire Me meetups. I loved the sound of her business and how she combined her own personal challenge along with the technique that helped her heal into a business that allows her to help other women. Lesley's story is important, even if you're not struggling with childlessness. She shares how she found a safe environment to start telling her story, and how she took little steps to gradually build up from that. If you know that telling your story online and being vulnerable will be a powerful part of your business so you can connect with your ideal clients, then you need to listen to this episode. About Lesley Pyne Lesley Pyne supports childless women to let go of their dreams of motherhood and move on to finding fulfilment. She uses her first-hand experience in coming to terms a life without children and her professional skills in NLP and time line techniques to help other childless women. When you’re childless one of the greatest challenges is to work out who you are and how you fit into society. And it also feels like you’ve been hiding yourself and you’re afraid to show the world the real you, and maybe you’re not sure who the ‘real’ you is anymore. Her new programme ’Let Go and Move On: Six Steps to Finding Fulfilment after Childlessness’ helps women to stop hiding themselves and understand who they really are.
