Ayup Podcasters, and welcome to a little bit extra of Clive's Little Bit Extra! This week, we've got a History Special for anyone interested in traditional trades.
The White Mountains have a special talent for making strong hikers question their life choices, and their mileage math. In this episode, I'm joined by Eli Burakian and Justin Chapman, the brains behind Northeast Trail Adventures, to break down what makes the Northeast so rugged, so beloved, and so different from anywhere else.Sign up for the retreat: https://northeasttrailadventures.com/We dig into Moosilauke as the first true alpine-style summit for northbound AT hikers, the old-school trail design philosophy (straight up, minimal mercy), and the culture shift where vert matters more than pace. Then we get into the wild story of the Mount Ascutney Vertical Backyard, a last-person-standing race that went a jaw-dropping 90 hours, and somehow turned race directing into an ultra of its own. After that, we talk about something more important than suffering, community. I'm officially joining Northeast Trail Adventures as a leader for their White Mountains running and hiking retreat (June 5 weekend at Hub North), a low-pressure, all-abilities weekend built around moving efficiently in the mountains, learning from experienced leaders, and hanging out like normal humans at night with meals, stories, and whatever game ends friendships. If you want an entry point to the Whites that's fun, supportive, and not gatekeep-y, this is it. Relentless Outreach: Unlocking an Untapped Youth Workforce In this episode of Do Local Good podcast, hosts Nate Spasiuk and Josh Smith sit down with Ryan Beard from YOUCAN Youth Services alongside program participants Kiana Brooks and Abdulrahman Mursal for a powerful conversation about resilience, employment, and what it truly means to meet people where they are. Together, they explore YOUCAN's philosophy of Relentless Outreach, a commitment to never giving up on youth who have often been let down by traditional systems of education, employment, and social support. As a longtime volunteer therapy dog and horse handler, she has served her community by connecting kids, trauma survivors, and natural disaster victims with the love and joy of a gentle, comforting animal. Jane talks about her special dog, Truman Blue, who has helped kids and adults through the aftermath of floods, tornadoes or other natural disasters or the difficult moments of facing a deadly illness. Hi, I'm Dr. Trina Read, a Calgary sexologist, best-selling, award-winning author, and relationship expert. For 25 years, I've helped married women and couples reignite passion and connection after the honeymoon phase fades. That journey inspired me to create a new literary genre called self-help-fiction — stories that both entertain and transform. My award-winning novel, The Sex Show, was the first of its kind in the world, blending engaging storytelling with practical tools for real-life intimacy. My upcoming release, The Taboo Show, continues that mission—helping women find their voice. Through my books, masterclasses, and podcast appearances, I aim to make conversations about intimacy and relationships open, empowering, and joyful. At the heart of everything I do is one goal: helping people connect more deeply—with themselves and each other. As well, as a gift to your listeners, they can download my 5 Pleasure Secrets of Satisfied Couples handout. When the people heard of this, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he landed, he saw a large crowd, and he felt compassion for them, healing their sick. About DeborahDeborah Lukovich, with a MA/PhD in depth psychology, I'm an expert in understanding and decoding the mysterious language of the unconscious. Clients come to me for all sorts of reasons, but what they have in common is a desire to access a new kind of knowing. As a Depth Psychology Coach, is also an accomplished author with her latest book When Sex Meets God https://www.deborahlukovich.com/whensexmeetsgod About When Sex Meets GodOne woman's story about surrendering to the unknown, risking judgment to seek a deeper truth, and discovering that when sexuality meets the sacred, a wild, creative force is unleashed. Deborah's life as a mother, professional, and wife felt so perfect that the twinge of discontent confused her. Ten years later, her marriage and business unraveled, and her eleven-year-old son said he didn't want to live. Getting divorced only unleashed demons that her twenty-four-year marriage had protected her from. The younger men appeared as unexpected teachers, revitalizing her sensuality, and then a soul-stirring romance forced a reckoning deep inside her. Through the fire of erotic intensity and spiritual revelation, she shed layers of armor, embraced the sacredness of her desire, and stepped boldly into the fullness of her true self. Michael Clog's Review I wish I had found this years ago when I was struggling to learn who I was and find reasons why i should love myself. Deborah, your story taught that many others have struggled to love themselves just for being the person they are. Wine is about the humanity. This concept hit me on a flight home from Rome. I was watching a movie and started to weep. I realized the human soul needs passion, passion forsomething; maybe another person, maybe a lifestyle, maybe a career, but passion drives our will. And wine is full of passion. To do it right, it takes nothing less than passion. Hey there, it's Paul Kalemkiarian on Wine Talks, and in this episode, I really wanted to get personal and share how deeply humanity and humility run through every thread of the wine world at its highest levels. I open the show reflecting on a profound sense of gratitude after tasting with some top producers—it reminded me why I'm passionate about this podcast. Wine isn't just a commodity to me; it's an expression of earth, spirit, and story, and the purpose of Wine Talks is to spread that message. I also let listeners into my own little world, sharing that I've tasted 100,000 wines over the years and even built a comprehensive database (and now an AI-driven app) to catalog all these bottles. It's quirky, but it keeps me grounded in what I love. Then, I shared a special moment from a recent trip to Rome, where I had the honor of attending the Vatican for the canonization of an Armenian archbishop. It was a powerful experience—full of history, pageantry, and meaning. Of course, the promised "private audience with the Pope" wasn't exactly one-on-one selfies, but still, being there among so many was remarkable. The journey continued to Puglia in southern Italy, where I managed, despite short notice, to meet with Mark Shannon of Amano wines. Mark's story resonated deeply—an American winemaker settling in an up-and-coming wine region, driven by pure passion. We recorded a heartfelt conversation, shared great food, and I came away reminded how wine connects people at the most human level. On my flight home, I got unexpectedly emotional watching Top Gun: Maverick. It hit home how we all seek passion and escape—sometimes in movies, sometimes in travel, sometimes in wine. No matter our circumstances, that longing for meaningful off-ramps never goes away. The show then explores not only the artistry and soulfulness in winemaking, but also the nuts-and-bolts of the business—from manipulated supermarket bottles that miss the mark to innovative new packaging concepts, marketing strategies, and the challenges faced by artisans like Mark Shannon trying to access the U.S. market. I shared anecdotes about recent guests—a geophysicist connecting volcanic soils to wine character, a business-savvy marketing pro, and other passionate personalities in the wine world. I reflected on the fascinating diversity of experiences, from NBA stars getting into wine to trailblazers supporting Armenian wine in the global conversation. In the end, I emphasized why I do this: it's for the humanity, the stories, and the connections that wine brings. My hope is always to bring listeners closer to the heart of wine—whether it's a legendary Bordeaux tasting or a birthday party at my own home. It's all about sharing, learning, and feeling something real. Cheers to the humanity of wine—and thanks for joining me on this episode of Wine Talks. #winepodcast #WineTalks #PaulKalemkiarian #winetrade #winebusiness #winetasting #humanityinwine #PugliaItaly #Armenianwine #Bordeaux #NapaValley #passionforwine #storytelling #volcanicsoil #winemarketing #appellation #Primitivo #Zinfandel #winemakers #wineculture
