What do you do when ministry collides with real life—tragedy, grief, and the questions no textbook ever prepared you for? In this powerful episode of Youth Worker on Fire, Doug Edwards reconnects with Mark Fisher, one of his first Campus Life students, to explore some of the hardest lessons learned in youth ministry and beyond. From serving as a chaplain near the Texas-Mexico border, to walking through cancer, loss, and tragedy, to pastoring and parenting through deep personal heartbreak, Mark's journey is both raw and inspiring. Together, Doug and Mark unpack: ✅ The role of faith in seasons of loss. ✅ Why youth workers must address the spiritual crisis behind today's mental health crisis. ✅ How Campus Life and para-church ministries shaped a generation of students and leaders. ✅ The importance of partnering with parents—not just students—in ministry. ✅ Scriptures that sustain leaders when burnout, grief, or doubt hit hard (Matthew 11, Mark 9, Matthew 8). ✅ Why youth pastors matter so deeply—because for many kids, you are the church they think of first. This heartfelt conversation will remind every youth pastor, volunteer, mentor, or parent that while ministry is never easy, the seeds you plant may grow into eternal impact—even if you don't see the fruit for years.

On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we welcome Collette Divitto — entrepreneur, baker, author, speaker, and founder of Collettey's Cookies and Collettey's Leadership Program. You may know Collette from her inspiring story that went viral in 2016, when she turned rejection into fuel for her mission and built a cookie empire. After facing countless job rejections because she was born with Down Syndrome, Collette decided to create her own path and founded Collettey's Cookies — not only to share her delicious “Amazing Cookies” with the world, but also to create meaningful jobs for people with “different abilities.” Since then, Collette has been featured on CNN, Good Morning America, ABC World News, People Magazine, BBC, and many other media outlets. She's sold over 500,000 cookies, built a thriving company in Boston that now employs 15+ people (several with disabilities), and continues to grow her mission of empowerment and inclusion. But Collette's story doesn't end with cookies. Today, on Episode 496, I'm talking with Mattias Jansson from the National Pilgrim Center in Trondheim, Norway. I recently had the opportunity to hike the Pilgrim Path along Olav's Way, and if you get the chance, do it. Not only is the walk beautiful, but the history is quite interesting as well. Facebook   Twitter   Instagram Love the show? Subscribe,  rate, review, and share! Sign up for my Newsletter  HERE I'd love to hear your feedback about the show! You can contact me here:  rick@theoutdoorbizpodcast.com What Happened I've done my fair share of hiking. From the John Muir Trail to the PCT, I thought I had a pretty solid handle on what makes an adventure worthwhile. But then I found myself in Norway, walking the Pilgrim Path to Nidaros Cathedral, and something shifted. It wasn't just the landscapes—though, let me tell you, those were next level. One day, we were trekking through misty mountains. The next, we were passing through sleepy villages, exchanging nods with locals who've seen hikers like us for centuries. And then there was that one wild day—the rain poured, the wind howled, and instead of hurrying through it, we stopped to make coffee by a quiet pond. No rush, no race, just being in the moment. That's when it hit me: This wasn't just a hike. It was something deeper. Something that had been calling to people for over a thousand years. It made me wonder: Why do we chase adventure? What are we really searching for? Principle Here's the truth: Many people think adventure is about ticking off trails, collecting miles, or conquering nature. But the best adventures? They change you. A pilgrimage isn't just about getting from point A to B. It's about stripping away the layers of everyday life—the distractions, the to-do lists, the noise—until all that's left is you, the trail, and whatever you're meant to discover along the way. Transition Many people don't realize it, but they're searching for more than just adventure. They're searching for meaning. And yet, so many never find it—not because they're not looking, but because they don't know where to look. And … That's Why… That's why, in this episode of the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast, we sat down with Mattias Jansson, a modern-day guide of these ancient trails. We talk about the Viking roots of the Pilgrim Path, the deep connection between adventure and self-discovery, and why people from all over the world are drawn to this experience today. Call to Action If you've ever felt stuck—like your adventures aren't quite scratching that itch anymore—this episode is for you. Because adventure isn't just about new places. It's about new perspectives.

You'll hear unforgettable stories (like a bartender who became a parish secretary) and see how ministries like Alpha, ChristLife, and parish retreats are helping people truly encounter Jesus. But this isn't just about programs. It's about creating space for people to meet Jesus—and letting that encounter ripple out into the life of your parish. We talk about what's working, what's not, and how to choose a format that actually fits your community. Every single man listening to this is familiar with discipline and has applied it (to varying degrees) in his life. We generally think of discipline as an overall good thing (and, I think it is) but it can often lead to bouts of frustration and unnecessary suffering if utilized incorrectly. My guest today, Craig Ballantyne, makes the case that discipline, although, a powerful force for productivity comes with strings attached, and isn't the end-all, save-all it's often made out to be. Today, we talk about what true discipline is not, why chasing the wrong target is so common and what to do about it, what I call the “self-help hangover” and how to avoid it, why you should know the distinction between standards and expectations, and how to avoid what Craig calls, “The Doom Loop” in your life.
