The Olympics are here whether anybody's ready or not and Drew Lawrence of The Guardian (and several other publications) stops by to talk about them. Why are they happening? Why are they playing softball on a toxic waste site? The guys try to come up with a better way to pick the men's basketball team, wonder what Mary Carrillo is going to get to make fun of, and a couple of athletes and events you should be paying attention to. Andy suggests moving Hockey to the Summer Games. Drew has an incredible story about the ludicrous 1904 Olympics in St. Louis that you have to hear to believe. And then, they talk about the Bears, because the Bears finally have a quarterback and it's impossible to talk about that too much. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/desipio/message
This episode is one of our most moving to date. (Full warning: it doesn’t have a happy ending. But it does have a mother that exemplifies resilience, compassion, and the true definition of unconditional love.) Mary Carrillo gave birth to her first child, a son named Calvin in 2006. Just six years later, however, she stood by him as he was diagnosed with Leukemia, passing a year later. But that wasn’t the end for Calvin. His mother went on to turn his namesake into the Calvin Preston Foundation aimed at helping other kids who are fighting cancer. Tune in this week to listen to one mother’s story of turning the unthinkable into hopeful as she shares her love and loss... and then love again.
Mama, when you can't see your way out of the darkest situation, we hope that these stories bring you sparks to reignite the fire. Mary Carrillo's story is so beautiful that it will touch your heart in ways you didn't know you needed. Her path as a young mom, a single mom, an an entrepreneur mom, and all around force of love will make you lift your head a little higher today, knowing that moms can truly do anything! Listen in as she shares her journey with us, alongside her beautiful little Cielo, and learn all about how she is pushing her son's legacy forward via the Calvin Preston Foundation.

Queramos o no queramos.
