Send us a textPress play and step through a time portal to the 1990s—sports dynasties on every screen, movie tie-ins on your soda cup, sitcoms that rewired comedy, and a Monday night where wrestling made the whole country pick a side. We hand the reins to our manager, Fiddy, and bring a lively panel together to relive the decade that shaped how we watch, listen, and eat.We kick off with the big question: were the 90s the true peak of sports dominance? From Jordan's Bulls to Gretzky and Lemieux, home run chases, and quarterbacks who defined eras, we tally the legends and ask if a decade could ever stack stars like that again. Then it's straight into the booth with John Madden and Pat Summerall—why their chemistry felt effortless and how their calls still echo in our heads. On the big screen, we revisit the Batman hype machine, the marketing that swallowed whole summers, and the films we still stop to watch—Heat, Forrest Gump, Mallrats, Billy Madison, Tombstone, Friday, and more.TV gets a full tour: 90210's taboo-breaking storylines, the TGIF routine, Seinfeld vs Friends, Fresh Prince, Married with Children, X-Files, Nickelodeon game shows, and the eerie charm of Are You Afraid of the Dark? We fire up the Monday Night Wars—WWF vs WCW, the NWO invasion, ECW chaos, and the Attitude Era's lightning-in-a-bottle energy that made pay-per-views must-see. Music rounds out the culture shift: grunge and alt-rock, hip-hop's canon from Biggie and Tupac to Outkast and Wu-Tang, pop's boy band takeover, Hootie's singalongs, and TRL's daily decider that turned tastes into a scoreboard. We close where so many memories started: McDonald's birthday parties, ball pits, Happy Meal toys, Pizza Hut red roofs, Ponderosa buffets, Denny's late nights, Chi-Chi's chips and salsa, and that perfect McDSubscribe for exclusive content: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1530455/support Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREETactical BrotherhoodThe Tactical Brotherhood is a movement to support America.Dubby EnergyFROM GAMERS TO GYM JUNKIES TO ENTREPRENEURS, OUR PRODUCT IS FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE BETTER.ShankitgolfOur goal here at Shankitgolf is for everyone to have a great time on and off the golf courseSweet Hands SportsElevate your game with Sweet Hands Sports! A Silent Thanksgiving and the Power of Nostalgia: Week 13 NFL PicksWelcome to the Pig Pen for our special Thanksgiving week edition of Big, Bold Predictions! The NFL schedule is bursting at the seams this week with games spread across four days—Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday—meaning no bye weeks and a full slate of football to digest alongside your holiday feast.Hosts Darin Hayes and Ed Kleese checked in to review the tumultuous results of Week 12 and lay out their choices for Week 13, including the highly anticipated Thanksgiving MVP bonus picks. Before diving into the scores, Ed took a poignant detour down memory lane, reflecting on the shared cultural experience of Thanksgiving Day football, forever tied to the unmistakable voices of John Madden and Pat Summerall. Though Ed humorously recalled one infamous "Silent Thanksgiving" ruined by a 2002 Commanders loss to the Cowboys, the overall reverence for the holiday tradition—of family, food, and the gridiron—was clear.Week 12 Review: Darin Extends His LeadDespite both hosts admitting to a generally poor Week 12 performance, the race for the season title tightened, with Darin managing to extend his narrow lead.Darin & EdBills over TexansTexans won0Both hosts missed the Texans' dominant defensive performance (8 sacks)._________________Darin & EdCardinals over Jaguars (Upset)Jaguars won0Cardinals committed 4 turnovers but still lost, sinking both hosts.________________Darin & Ed Cowboys over Eagles (Upset)Cowboys won2Both hosts correctly predicted the Cowboys' second-half defensive shutout.__________________Darin OnlyChiefs win by 7+ vs. ColtsChiefs won by 61 pointChiefs won but missed the margin by one point, earning Darin partial credit._________________Darin OnlyBucs over RamsRams won big0 pointsThe Rams dominated, proving Darin wrong on the late-season surge.__________________________Ed OnlySeahawks win by 20+ vs. TitansSeahawks won by 60 pointsEd's bullish pick failed to reach the 20-point margin.______________Ed OnlySteelers over BearsBears won0 pointsSteelers lost, leaving Ed stuck on 2 points for the week.Week 12 Score:Darin Hayes: 3 PointsEd Kleese: 2 PointsSeason Standings: The Race is Neck-and-NeckThe difference remains razor-thin heading into the final stretch of the regular season.Total Season Points (Week 12 Complete)Darin Hayes: 56 PointsEd Kleese: 54 PointsDarin maintains a two-point advantage, but with three bonus picks available this week, the lead is very much in jeopardy.Week 13 Bonus Picks: Thanksgiving MVPFor Week 13, Darin and Ed introduced three bonus picks: selecting the MVP of each of the three Thanksgiving Day games, worth three extra points apiece.Game 1: Lions vs. PackersDarin's MVP Pick:Jameer Gibbs(Lions RB)Darin is betting on the Lions' versatile running back to break out in the traditional early slot.Ed's MVP Pick:Jordan Love(Packers QB)Ed believes Love, who has been shaky all year, will have a pivotal breakout game, leading the Packers to a late comeback victory.Game 2: Chiefs vs. CowboysDarin's...

On the latest episode of Cinematic Underdogs, we're diving into It's In The Game: Madden NFL. This four-part documentary traces the unlikely collaboration between Trip Hawkins, a brilliant computer programmer, and the larger-than-life coach John Madden: an odd pairing that somehow ignited one of the most influential sports gaming franchises ever made. The series isn't a traditional cradle-to-today history lesson; instead, it moves between two timelines. One chronicles Madden NFL's early breakthroughs, creative battles, and the franchise-defining push for realism. The other drops us inside EA's modern studio as the developers hustle to shape Madden 25, revealing just how massive and intricate that yearly operation has become. What emerges is a doc that starts modestly but grows steadily more engaging, blending nostalgia, industry insight, and a surprisingly heartfelt tribute to Madden himself. It doesn't shy away from the franchise's bumps or the criticism surrounding its current era, yet it still manages to capture why the game has mattered to so many players for so long. Whether you've logged thousands of virtual snaps or only know the series by reputation, this doc (and hopefully our discussion) offers a compelling look at how Madden became more than a game, rising to the status of a cultural fixture.

TVC 710.1: Ed welcomes back Rich Podolsky, longtime journalist, onetime beat writer for the Miami Dolphins, onetime staff writer for CBS Sports and ABC Television, and the author of several books, including You Are Looking Live: How The NFL Today Revolutionized Sports Broadcasting. Rich's latest book, Madden & Summerall: How They Revolutionized NFL Broadcasting, takes a deep dive in the twenty-one-year broadcast partnership of John Madden and Pat Summerall—two stalwarts of the NFL who each, separately, left their own mark on the game, but, once they were paired together in October 1981, revolutionized how NFL games were broadcast on television while also becoming the greatest broadcast team ever. Topics this segment include how the rise of Madden and Summerall also marked the rise of the NFL as America's TV spectacle; how each man understood instinctively the other's love and understanding of the NFL; how Madden prepared for each television broadcast in much the same way as he approached every game that he coached; Madden's insatiable curiosity about people; and how Madden's dual career in radio (and, particularly, his early partnership with KSFO radio personality Gene Nelson) helped him hone his timing for his work in television. Madden & Summerall is available wherever books are sold through Lyons Press.

TVC 710.2: Rich Podolsky, author of Madden & Summerall: How They Revolutionized NFL Broadcasting, talks to Ed about the so-called “contest” between Pat Summerall and Vin Scully in the early weeks of the 1981 NFL season over who would welcome John Madden's permanent on-air partner on CBS; how the commercials Madden did for Lite Beer from Miller helped sell then-CBS president Van Gordon Sauter on Madden's appeal to audiences; how the introduction of the Telestrator (aka the CBS Chalkboard) allowed Madden to become “America's nutty football professor”; and how Rich's personal connection with Madden—which began in the early 1970s, when Rich was a beat writer for the Miami Dolphins, and which developed further when Rich worked for ABC and CBS—gives Madden & Summerall tremendous depth and insight. Madden & Summerall is available wherever books are sold through Lyons Press.

"Wait… did Troy Aikman just say 'them some good tight ends' like he was calling a high school rodeo?"In this laugh-out-loud episode of The Ben and Skin Show, hosts Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive into a hilarious moment from Monday Night Football where Troy Aikman unexpectedly slipped into full country mode during the broadcast. The crew breaks down Aikman's gravelly drawl, comparing it to John Madden if he were raised in Henrietta, Oklahoma, and wondering if this was a one-off slip or a full-on country awakening. From there, the episode spirals into a side-splitting segment where each host is caught “going country” in their own way:Ben Rogers sounding like he's rocking on a porch in a straw hat: “It's irrational, but it's a fair.”Krystina Ray cracking herself up with a southern twang: “He was talkin' ‘bout the blood!”Skin Wade channeling Forrest Gump: “I don't even know what it is.”And yes, they even revisit Troy Aikman's 1993 country ballad “Oklahoma Nights”, wondering why it hasn't been featured in a documentary—or scrubbed from the internet entirely.

I hope you enjoy the interview.Amazon.com : madden and summerallABOUT FOOTBALL IS FAMILYDo you bleed your favorite football team's colors each weekend? Does the difference of a W or L in the box score dictate how you respond for the rest of the week? Or do most of your conversations with your family and friends revolve around your favorite football team?If you answered yes to any (or maybe all) of these questions, then you are in the right place. The host of this podcast truly believes that “Football Is Family” and he is on a mission to share the stories of other fans out there sharing how they have been touched by the greatest sport on Earth. Listen below to the trailer and learn more about the host and show.HOST - JEREMY MCFARLINGrowing up in Middle Tennessee, I didn't have a pro football team that was close enough to me to feel a part of. My first memory of pro football was Super Bowl 22. I picked the Broncos to win, and, even though they didn't win, I followed them from that point on.John Elway was (and is) my favorite player. I have played as the Broncos on Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Bowl Super Bowl, Madden, and 2K Sports. I fondly remember the moments when the Broncos won Super Bowls 32 and 33.Around this time, the Oilers came to Tennessee. I was hooked. I finally had a team just down the road from my hometown of Bon Aqua. Oiler (and later Titans) mania hit this area. Jerseys, hats, footballs, merchandise, and several autographs later, I'm a Titans fan through and through. It's the dedication, the love, and the passion for football that helps me realize that football is family. Each fan base has a story, a history, and a love for their team. That's what I want to talk about each and every podcast. You can follow me @jeremy_mcfarlin. Message me if you want to share your reasons why your football team is family. Veteran sportswriter, Sports Broadcast Journal columnist, and Episode 233 guest Rich Podolsky ("You Are Looking Live!") returns to the show to explore the story of perhaps the greatest broadcast partnership in NFL history. In his new book, "Madden & Summerall: How They Revolutionized NFL Broadcasting," Podolsky offers a rare inside look at how kicker-turned-play-by-play man Pat Summerall, and coach-turned-color-analyst John Madden became the voices of America's Sundays — and why their impact still reverberates across sports media today. Through Podolsky's storytelling, we uncover how the duo's unlikely chemistry — Summerall's minimalist gravitas paired with Madden's booming energy and boundless teaching — redefined the way fans understood the game. We trace their journey from the heights of CBS to their groundbreaking leap to Fox, where their presence gave a fledgling network instant credibility. Along the way, Podolsky reveals how Madden transformed the role of analyst, turning film sessions and telestrators into staples of the craft, while Summerall perfected the art of saying more with less. What emerges is not just a portrait of two men, but of a cultural moment: the rise of the NFL as America's most powerful television spectacle, carried into living rooms by a duo so iconic that no team since has truly replaced them. Happy Monday. It's time to get Mighty! Ryan is here to help review the 1994 classic, The Little Giants. ABOUT THE LITTLE GIANTS:Misfits form their own opposing team to an elite peewee football team, coached by the elite team coach's brother.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR THE LITTLE GIANTS:October 14, 1994 | TheatersCAST & CREW OF THE LITTLE GIANTS:Rick Moranis as Danny O'SheaEd O'Neill as Kevin O'SheaShawna Waldron as Becky “Icebox” O'SheaDevon Sawa as Junior FloydBRAN'S THE LITTLE GIANTS SYNOPSIS: The movie kicks off with some wacky football animation. The X's. The O's. The Little Giants. It's 1964, and the O'Shea brothers are walking down the street. Big brother Kevin is annoyed that little brother Danny is tagging along to play football with his friends. So annoyed, in fact, that Kevin won't even pick him to be on his team. To cheer him up, he tells Danny that one day their names will both be on the town water tower—The O'Shea Brothers.Cut to the present, and the only name on that water tower is Kevin's. Kevin owns a car dealership and, most importantly, coaches pee-wee football. Today is tryouts. One of those hopefuls is Icebox—or should I say, Becky… Danny's daughter. That's right, a girl!We quickly learn just how much Kevin has accomplished: championships in high school and college, the Heisman Trophy—he's done it all.Time to find out who made the team. All the “dorks” you'd expect get cut… along with Icebox. Danny tells his brother he's wrong about those kids, and he's going to prove it.Icebox rallies the others, announcing that they'll start their own team—coached by her dad. Danny's not so sure, until Kevin lays down the rule: one town, one team. He challenges Danny to a playoff in two weeks. Winner gets to be the town's team. The squad needs more players, so Icebox and the crew recruit outcasts around town. At the grocery store, they spot a kid showing off an impressive arm by tossing toilet paper rolls. Icebox is thrown off because—wait for it—she also thinks he's cute. Turns out he's a great quarterback.Word gets to Kevin, who goes to check it out… and winds up arrested for being a peeping tom. Then a new kid moves to town—Spike. He's massive. His dad calls Danny, thinking he's Kevin, to say Spike wants to play. But Spike doesn't fit in, Spike doesn't like them, and Spike is basically the bad guy. Eventually, Spike's dad pulls him from the team once he realizes they're with Danny, which sparks a huge fight among the players. All seems lost… until John Madden shows up—with four NFL players! Just the boost they need. It's game day. Right before kickoff, Kevin goads Danny into a bet: if Danny wins, he gets Kevin's Chevrolet dealership; if Kevin wins, he gets Danny's gas station. The Giants fall behind 21 points by halftime. Spirits are low—until Danny gives a heartfelt speech. The team rallies, and with a last-second fumblerooski, they win the game!Danny suggests that instead of the Giants replacing the Cowboys, they merge into one team so both brothers can coach. He also rekindles his childhood romance with Patty. And instead of holding Kevin to the dealership bet, Danny asks for just one thing: change the water tower. From “Home of Kevin O'Shea” to “Home of the O'Shea Brothers.” Promise fulfilled.
