El Ministerio de Sanidad va a activar equipos de psicólogos para reforzar la atención en salud mental tras el accidente ferroviario de Adamuz. El objetivo es ayudar a prevenir el trauma indirecto, el llamado trauma vicario que puedan sufrir quienes han dado respuesta a la emergencia. Esto se traduce en más equipos del Ministerio de Sanidad, que estarán coordinación con los equipos que ya están trabajando con el terreno, explica la ministra de Sanidad, Mónica García, en RNE. Es un apoyo más, añade, pensando en la prevención, para evitar que las personas que han estado en contacto con la tragedia puedan desarrollar algún tipo de trastorno patológico. No hacerlo podría tener un impacto emocional bastante intenso entre los supervivientes y aquellos que lo han sufrido en tercera persona, como los equipos de emergencias y las fuerzas de seguridad del Estado. "Sabemos que después de este tipo de tragedias hay un trauma emocional que supera, no solamente a aquellos que lo han padecido, sino a todos los que han ayudado, colaborado, todos los que lo han vivido en tercera persona...", añade García. Elwin Hofman joins Jana Byars to talk about the volume he edited with Magaly Rodríguez García & Pieter Vanhees, The Business of Pleasure: A History of Paid Sex in the Heart of Europe (Leuven UP, 2022). In 2022, the Belgian parliament made a landmark decision by approving the decriminalisation of sex work. This move positioned the small nation as the first country in Europe - and the second globally - to abandon the hypocrisy of tolerance. Yet this was not the first time paid sex in Belgium gained international notoriety. The bathhouses of the fifteenth-century 'frows of Flanders' were well-known throughout Europe. In the nineteenth century, Belgium faced international outrage as the alleged epicentre of white slavery. Although Belgians were then accused of forcing white women into prostitution, they were also free to include any suspect women in the prostitution registers of colonial Congo. Throughout the First and Second World Wars, both allied and German soldiers sought relief in Belgian brothels. The Business of Pleasure presents the compelling life stories of sex workers and their interactions with authorities, clients and pimps. Pushing beyond stereotypes, this history of commercial sex offers a nuanced understanding of the difficulties and opportunities associated with paid sex for women, men and trans persons past and present. Elwin Hofman joins Jana Byars to talk about the volume he edited with Magaly Rodríguez García & Pieter Vanhees, The Business of Pleasure: A History of Paid Sex in the Heart of Europe (Leuven UP, 2022). In 2022, the Belgian parliament made a landmark decision by approving the decriminalisation of sex work. This move positioned the small nation as the first country in Europe - and the second globally - to abandon the hypocrisy of tolerance. Yet this was not the first time paid sex in Belgium gained international notoriety. The bathhouses of the fifteenth-century 'frows of Flanders' were well-known throughout Europe. In the nineteenth century, Belgium faced international outrage as the alleged epicentre of white slavery. Although Belgians were then accused of forcing white women into prostitution, they were also free to include any suspect women in the prostitution registers of colonial Congo. Throughout the First and Second World Wars, both allied and German soldiers sought relief in Belgian brothels. The Business of Pleasure presents the compelling life stories of sex workers and their interactions with authorities, clients and pimps. Pushing beyond stereotypes, this history of commercial sex offers a nuanced understanding of the difficulties and opportunities associated with paid sex for women, men and trans persons past and present. This week, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing arguments in two cases challenging state bans on trans athletes competing in girls' and women's sports.Twenty-seven states have bans on trans girls and women competing in school sports consistent with their gender identity. But Washington passed a law in 2007 that protects trans athletes' participation in school sports. It was the first state to do so. For more than a decade, that law received very little attention. But in recent years, questions about fairness, the athletic advantages conferred by testosterone, and the sanctity of women’s sports have become fiery political issues. And for the first time, a few trans athletes have won competitions, including Verónica Garcia, a runner from Spokane Valley. In May, she repeated as the state 2A high school girls champion in the 400 meters. Last month, she was the subject of an extensive profile in the Washington Post that explored her life as she was finishing high school and competing in track and field for the last time Reporter Casey Parks followed Verónica for a year. Fue cura, revolucionario, escritor, poeta, escultor y teólogo; una persona utópica que miraba la realidad proyectándose al futuro. Pero sobre todas estas facetas, Ernesto Cardenal fue un místico que aplicaba el amor a todo, convencido de que es la única vía de liberación del ser humano. La situación política de su país, Nicaragua, estuvo fuertemente unida a su biografía y obra.Tras pasar por un monasterio trapense de Estados Unidos, donde conoció al teólogo y activista Thomas Merton, se ordenó sacerdote. Fundó la famosa comunidad campesina de Solentiname, participó en la Revolución Sandinista y fue miembro de su primer gobierno. En esta etapa, la visita de Juan Pablo II a Managua en 1983 dejó una imagen que recorrió el mundo: Ernesto Cardenal arrodillado ante un papa que le reprendía por su actividad política y su cercanía a la Teología de la Liberación. El religioso salió del gobierno tras la eliminación del Ministerio de Cultura y se desvinculó del Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional por la deriva autoritaria de Daniel Ortega.En su poesía, marcada por la intertextualidad y el exteriorismo, destacan títulos como 'Oración por Marilyn Monroe y otros poemas', 'Salmos', 'Gethsemani, Ky', 'Homenaje a los indios' o 'Cántico cósmico', la que muchos consideran su obra cumbre.
