Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said his newest MP “blew the doors off” as Michael Shanks won the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election with a swing of 20%.It was triggered after former SNP MP Margaret Ferrier was removed from her seat after breaking COVID guidelines. The win could have implications for the next general election. If the swing was repeated across Scotland it would see a rise in the number of Labour MPs from just 2 to over 40 and so a big boost to Sir Keir Starmer's bid to enter 10 Downing Street. On the Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson is joined by our Scotland correspondent Connor Gillies and Sky's election analyst Michael Thrasher to dig into the result and look at how it may influence the political landscape in the run up to a general election next year. As the main parties suffer what appears to be a Brexit backlash in local elections in England and Northern Ireland, Adam Boulton guests assess the wider political impact of the results. The week, however, has been somewhat dominated by the sacking of the defence secretary Gavin Williamson over the leaking of information from the National Security Council. Both issues are up for discussion and joining Adam this week are Sky's political correspondent Tamara Cohen, Sky's election experts professors Michael Thrasher and Will Jennings and the head of Sky Data Harry Carr.
Adam Boulton and guests discuss the ongoing situation in Syria and the potential for military action involving the US, the UK and France in response to an alleged chemical attack in the town of Douma. They'll also look ahead to next month's local elections in England, assessing the key battlegrounds and whether the outcome will have any impact on a national level. Joining Adam this week are the psephologist and Conservative peer Lord Hayward, Sky's senior political correspondent Beth Rigby, Head of Sky Data Harry Carr and Sky's elections analyst Michael Thrasher. #Syria #LocalElections #AllOutPolitics #SkyNews
