Folk-rock artist Allie Sandt returns to the Planet LP Podcast to talk about her debut album, In Pursuit of a Good Time. Known for blending folk, blues, jazz, and vintage rock into songs that feel both intimate and timeless, Allie opens up about the years-long journey behind the record — from songs that trace back to her time in the upstate New York indie circuit to new material written specifically for this project. We dig into the stories behind some tracks, and Allie talks about self-producing the album and assembling the accomplished group of musicians who helped bring it to life (also documented in her behind-the-scenes YouTube mini-doc). She shares how listeners have responded to the record so far, and looks ahead to her upcoming tour plans — including an exciting run opening for British-Brazilian folk-pop and bossa nova singer-songwriter Liana Flores on the U.S. leg of her tour. We also get into her thoughts on breaking through in an era of endless new music releases. As a Planet LP exclusive, Allie also performs a stripped-down acoustic version of "In Pursuit of a Good Time" — a highlight you won't want to miss. This episode of Planet LP is brought to you by Steve Fox's Old School, celebrating classic soul and R&B with the timeless grooves, voices, and culture that shaped generations. CUJO is a podcast about culture in the age of platforms. Episodes drop every other week, but if you want the full experience, we recommend signing up for a paid subscription. Paid subscribers also get access to our CUJOPLEX Discord and The Weather Report, a monthly episode series where we take stock of where the cultural winds are blowing and tell you what's rained into our brains. Catch last month's episode, where we dig into the rise of “waiting-in-line culture” in cities across America, the Spotify vs. Kalshi saga, Lebron James' post-factual free agency, and more. Here at CUJO, we love ourselves a good topical film. And as far as hot-button topics are concerned, Our Hero, Balthazar, a new movie from Oscar Boyson and Ricky Camilleri, has it all: coastal elite vs. red state class antagonism, the performance of self on the internet, gun violence, toxic masculinity, MLMs, designer drugs, and more. Written during the internet-addled lockdown days of the pandemic, it follows Balthazar (Jaeden Martell), a wealthy private school teen and online “cryfluencer” from New York City who becomes a obsessed with Solomon (Asa Butterfield), a working-class internet troll he suspects is planning a school shooting, and travels to Texas to stop him. It's a crazy premise for a film, but what transpires ends up being a deeply believable exploration of what happens when you bring social media and the attention economy into one of the most challenging phases of life: adolescence. And while the subject matter isn't funny at all, the film, surprisingly, very much is. Balthazar hits streaming on Apple TV on August 11, so we're thrilled to have Oscar, who directed the film, and Ricky, who co-wrote and produced it alongside Oscar, on today's episode. You might know Oscar from his work as a producer on 2010s indie classics like Frances Ha, Good Time, Uncut Gems, along with the show Chillin Island, and Ricky from his work as a film commentator and video talk show host for media companies like HuffPost, but the pair have known each other since meeting at film nerd camp in their teens. We talk about how they came back together later in life to write Balthazar; why they chose to frame the movie, somewhat controversially, around the specter of a school shooting; and its unsparing examination of what it is like to come of age in a world where attention is currency.Plus: We get into the challenges they faced making a dark topical indie satire during a period of extreme risk-aversion in the film industry, the story behind the film's amazing Iceage needledrop, and how they drew inspiration from idiosyncratic coming-of-age films from the turn of the millennium like Larry Clark's Bully. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit theculturejournalist.substack.com/subscribe

Send us a text! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the show. What if the thing keeping you from finishing your novel is not a lack of talent, discipline, or ideas? What if it is fear about what happens after you finish? In this episode of The Resilient Writers Radio Show, I'm joined by debut novelist Mel West, author of Now Is Not a Good Time for a Breakdown, for an honest and deeply relatable conversation about creativity, mental health, publishing, and the fears that quietly shape our writing lives.Mel's novel began with snippets of dialogue and a character whose voice would not leave her alone. It was not until Mel moved to New York City that the story fully came into focus. Suddenly, she understood where this character lived, how she moved through the world, and what kind of life she was trying to survive. We talk about Mel's discovery-based approach to drafting and how she eventually turned to plotting when the story began to lose momentum. She also shares why the pandemic became an unexpected missing piece of the novel and how returning to the manuscript helped her finally understand where the story needed to go.One of the most powerful parts of our conversation is Mel's realization that fear was one of the biggest obstacles between her and a finished book. Not fear that she could not write it, but fear of what would come next once the novel was done.I think many writers will recognize themselves in that.We also explore how Mel used dark humour to write about the fragility of mental health without making the novel feel heavy-handed. Her main character is not especially self-aware, which allows humour, discomfort, and emotional truth to exist side by side. Mel even shares how The Sopranos influenced the way she thought about revealing a character's inner life.Mel is refreshingly open about her publishing journey too. After exploring traditional publishing, she chose a hybrid path with Archway Publishing. She talks candidly about what she wishes she had known, how emotionally vulnerable it can feel to hand over your “book baby,” and why writers need to approach publishing with both creativity and clear-eyed research. We also discuss author platforms, building community, and why TikTok has felt more natural and conversational for Mel than Instagram. This episode is especially valuable for writers who are close to finishing a book but feel themselves pulling back. Mel's advice is simple and important: learn what comes next, research your options, and pay attention to the fear underneath your resistance.Because sometimes finishing the book is not the scary part.Sometimes the scary part is becoming the writer who finished it.Listen now for an honest conversation about fear, mental health, publishing, creative courage, and what it really takes to follow a novel all the way through.

Snyder hosts as Dave and Bohmbach take on Gabe Pulver and Jamie Hirsh from the Menschwarmers podcast in a game featuring Jewish Sports Quarterly All-Stars. Gabe names Bohmbach a “Mike Jacobs All-Star” (sounds Jewish but isn't), along with hammer toss champ Ethan Katzberg. In the first quarter, Luks reveals Bob Geldof's unknown child, Zach, and Gabe recalls Charles Barkley racing Dick Bavetta. During a second-quarter Missing Link, Gabe remembers Remember the Titans, and guesses that the Jewish link might somehow be related to papal names. In halftime, we learn that Nemo's dad came up with the theory of relativity, and that the star of a Fish Called Wanda could have been Jamie Lee …Schwartz??? The third quarter sees both teams go deep in the very shallow pool of Jewish Quarterbacks, as the Menschwarmers unwrap the kimono on Scott Zolak, and query (quite un-Jewishly, I might add) that if Charlie Whitehurst was clipboard Jesus, was his dad David “clipboard God”? In a very Luks moment, David makes a pop culture reference to Allan Sherman, who did “Harvey and Sheila.” The Menschwarmers answer at least two questions correctly because of Jewish Geography, and while kibbitzing in the fourth quarter, David shares that, contrary to popular belief, he was not at the 1946 All-Star Game, because it was his Bar Mitzvah. No one gets Snyder's clue on the last question, and we end by exchanging misdelivered mail. #philiproth #riseball #demardiedforthis #Jewishgeography #MichaelJordon #LuksisBostonPops *For a glossary of Jewish terms and phrases used in this episode, go to https://tinyurl.com/Menschwarmers https://dobosdelights.com/ Promo Code: CheckYourTaint https://www.patreon.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.facebook.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.twitter.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.instagram.com/benchwarmerstp/ https://www.teepublic.com/stores/benchwarmers-trivia-podcast

Excruciating pain after even brief sun exposure, years without answers, and a life-threatening liver crisis shaped Ashley's journey with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a rare genetic condition that causes severe photosensitivity. Although Ashley experienced symptoms beginning in early childhood, she wasn't diagnosed until after her 40th birthday, when she was hospitalized with advanced liver disease ultimately requiring a transplant. In this episode of On Rare, David Rintell, Head of Patient Advocacy at BridgeBio, and Mandy Rohrig, Vice President of Patient Advocacy at BridgeBio, speak with Ashley about her decades-long diagnostic journey, the emotional experience of waiting for a donor organ, and how finding a physician living with porphyria finally led to answers. Ashley reflects on the challenges of living in the shadows to avoid sunlight, navigating life after transplant, and why sharing her story has become one of her greatest purposes. Dr. Pete Schmidt, Chief Medical Officer of GondolaBio provides a medical overview of EPP and X-linked protoporphyria (XLP). Both conditions are rare genetic disorders caused by the buildup of protoporphyrin IX, a molecule that becomes highly reactive when exposed to visible light. This reaction causes severe pain and inflammation in the skin after sun exposure and, in some people, can lead to progressive liver damage as protoporphyrin accumulates in the liver and bile ducts. Dr. Schmidt explains the underlying biology of EPP, why symptoms can be difficult to diagnose, and the challenges of managing both the painful photosensitivity and the risk of liver disease.
Is now a good time to move to Metro Detroit? In this video, I break down the latest Southeast Michigan housing market data using Realcomp MLS numbers through May 2026 and explain what it actually means for buyers, sellers, and relocation clients considering a move to Michigan.Inventory is rising across Metro Detroit, buyer leverage is starting to improve, and each county is telling a very different story. Wayne County offers some of the strongest affordability in the region, Oakland County remains one of the most established suburban markets, Macomb County is showing some of the strongest growth, Washtenaw County continues to command a premium around Ann Arbor, and Livingston and St. Clair County offer more space and lifestyle tradeoffs. If you're relocating to Michigan from another state, this video will help you understand where your money may go further, which counties fit different lifestyles, and why Metro Detroit is not one single housing market. The right move depends on your budget, commute, schools, lifestyle, and long-term goals — not just what shows up first on Zillow.

Live backstage from the historic circle at the Grand Ole Opry, Jamie sits down with multi-platinum country artist, songwriter, and producer Niko Moon to celebrate the release of his deeply personal new album, ROOTS (out now via EMPIRE). Moving past the sun-drenched, coastal escapism of his previous hits like the triple-platinum anthem "GOOD TIME," Niko opens up like never before. He shares his true origin story, detailing his childhood family hardships, growing up in a Georgia trailer home with no electricity, and the hard-earned optimism that shapes both his life and his career today. In an industry often fixated on superficial milestones and commercial checkmarks, Niko details the exact turning point when he disengaged from the noise to focus on what truly matters: family, mental health, and passing on light to others through his nonprofit, the Happy Cowboy Foundation. __ Inside the Episode: The Practice of Joy: Niko discusses the deliberate mental conditioning required to intentionally choose joy daily, even when navigating life's darkest challenges. From the Trailer to the Circle: A powerful reflection on childhood poverty—what the young boy from Georgia would say to the man standing on the legendary stage of the Grand Ole Opry tonight. Ditching the Industry Checklist: Niko shares when and how he walked away from the superficial expectations of the music business to protect his peace and purpose. On paper, now looks like a fine time to retire. Annuity rates are generous, gilts finally pay a real return, and even cash earns its keep. Tony Marchese and Bez Beyond the Pen break down another frustrating loss on the road as the White Sox fell to the Yankees 10-5 in the Bronx. The hosts recapped Anthony Kay's rough outing (4 innings, 4 runs allowed), the bullpen collapse highlighted by Sean Newcomb surrendering a massive homer to Paul Goldschmidt before leaving with a tricep injury, and the team's glaring home/road splits. On the bright side, Colson Montgomery had his first career multi-homer game — including a clutch three-run shot off Carlos Rodón — while Sam Antonacci added a late homer of his own.The conversation also touched on the bigger picture: the White Sox still sitting atop (or tied for) the AL Central despite the ugly stretch, the need for starting pitching help at the trade deadline, updates on injured prospects like Hagen Smith and Noah Schultz, and what to expect from Sean Burke in Thursday's series finale against the Yankees.Support the show! Parents everywhere know there's a level of frustration where you stop talking… and start blasting Huey Lewis in the garage like your life depends on it. This episode starts with Rizz admitting one of his kids pushed him so far over the edge that he had to activate the emergency happy playlist — and honestly, that may be the most relatable thing ever said on a daily comedy show. The gang dives deep into the songs guaranteed to rescue your mood, including Bermuda by John Linnell, “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher,” “Power of Love,” “Stayin' Alive,” Wilson Phillips, Grateful Dead deep cuts, and enough Motown to heal emotional damage from modern life. Somehow the conversation turns into Michael Jackson hiding under your bed, CPR training from The Office, and whether Poison's “Nothing But a Good Time” should legally qualify as antidepressants. Then things escalate exactly the way they always do around here. There's major concert news with the Smashing Pumpkins launching a massive anniversary tour for Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness, plus Sonic Temple highlights featuring Shinedown, Daughtry, and Lzzy Hale absolutely crushing live performances. The crew also debates legendary tours after a “greatest concerts of all time” list sparks chaos because apparently U2 and Garth Brooks got disrespected so hard that Moon nearly launched himself through a wall.Speaking of questionable life decisions, Moon opens up about tattoo regret and realizing some of his old ink now resembles “a Walmart quarter-machine mistake.” The gang breaks down famous rock stars with zero tattoos, including Lars Ulrich, Alice Cooper, Trent Reznor, and Dave Mustaine. Meanwhile, Moon's tattoos are slowly evolving into what the show describes as “touched-up church Jesus art.” Honestly, no notes.Celebrity nonsense also reaches elite levels in this episode. Tom Brady apparently debuted a new look that made listeners compare him to Patrick Bateman, an animatronic billionaire, and a rejected Zoolander villain. The crew debates whether Brady's “perfect guy” magic is finally wearing off after another bizarre fashion appearance. There's also fake celebrity dating rumors involving Pamela Anderson and Tom Cruise, SNL madness with Chad Smith impersonating Will Ferrell, Paul McCartney showing up with new music nobody expected, and Casey Musgraves performing breakup songs on top of a washing machine because country music symbolism has fully left Earth. As always, this daily comedy show somehow mixes music nerdery, parenting meltdowns, celebrity gossip, nostalgic chaos, weird news, and absolutely unnecessary side conversations into one giant sarcastic fever dream. It's basically group therapy for people who laugh at inappropriate moments and still think “Stayin' Alive” is a medically useful song.If you love comedy podcasts, funny celebrity gossip, weird stories, sarcastic humor, music debates, and total morning show chaos straight out of St. Louis, this episode has everything except emotional maturity. And yes… somebody absolutely ends the show talking about porno birthdays. Because professionalism is dead. This daily comedy show is proudly brought to you by the beautiful dysfunction known as The Rizzuto Show.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
