“It's like the Sam Kinison meets Bobcat Goldthwait of dogs…” Bridging the gap between the thrash metal of the late 80's and early 90's and the tidal wave of groove metal that made landfall in the metal community during the early 90's (courtesy of Pantera), MACHINE HEAD came screaming out of the gate on August 9th, 1994, with their blisteringly crushing debut, BURN MY EYES. Filled with brutally heavy riffs that occasionally blur the lines between thrash, groove, and even death metal, BURN MY EYES marked the continuing expansion of the next “next” wave of thrash and groove metal. Discover the not-so-subtle ways that “Rod Roddy and Johnny Olson” have impacted this podcast, find out why “speaking in cursive” is not always helpful, and remember that not everybody gets to be “Charlie Chaplin”, even though you're already more than “halfway there” whenever you “solemnly swear”. Realize that “Phil Dremel and Robb Frynn” go back a few years, prepare to experience “SepulPanThrera”, and behold the impact that “writing with 7's” can have on riffs when you JOIN US for the MACHINE HEAD debut that helped further the evolution of thrash and groove with BURN MY EYES. *The music in this video is copyrighted and all rights reserved to the respective copyright holders* In the premiere episode of The Audio Files, hosts Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot fire up Saturday night with a high-voltage celebration of all things music. From their roots as lifelong metalheads to their guilty pleasures in disco and Motown, the duo delivers deep musical passion with equal parts reverence and riotous fun. They kick off with a tribute to AC/DC and Casey & the Sunshine Band, then trade stories of their earliest musical influences, Brad's Monkees obsession and metal awakening via Sepultura and Megadeth, and Jay's unforgettable childhood brush with David Lee Roth (and the comment that ended a potential stepdad relationship in one sentence). The show includes a heartfelt Mother's Day In Memoriam segment, spotlighting Glenn Miller and Blondie, plus a sobering tribute to Blondie's late drummer Clem Burke. The pair also introduce a recurring segment, Video Killed the Radio Star, launching with Billy Squier's legendary career-killing video for “Rock Me Tonight.” From punk and metal to disco and funk, The Audio Files is a love letter to music across genres, with live commentary, backstories, and raw appreciation for what makes music timeless. As they sign off with Parliament's “Flashlight,” it's clear: this isn't just another music podcast. It's a full-body jam session and a joyride through the soundtrack of your life.
Between 1989 and 2004, the self-dubbed “hatecore” madmen DAMAGED erupted from the rural town of Ballarat and onto the Australian metal scene, fusing unhinged aggression with the most extreme elements of of black metal, grindcore, and death metal. With releases like Do Not Spit, Token Remedies Research, and the EP Passive Backseat Demon Engines, DAMAGED unleashed a feral energy that cemented their status as Australia's premier live metal act of the '90s. At a time when international bands rarely travelled to Oz's shores, the band shared the stage with heavyweights like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory, and many more. After a decade incensed with internal turmoil, DAMAGED entered the studio in 2000 alongside Brutal Truth frontman Kevin Sharp to record what would become their final album, Purified in Pain.25 years on, Purified in Pain remains a divisive swan song from a localized, but legendary legacy. This week we are joined by founding member Matt “Skitz” Sanders to unpack the album's story and honor the undefinable chaos, magic, and chemistry it captured.Recommendations:Heaven's Gate - Tales From a Blistering ParadiseFull of Hell - Broken Sword, Rotten ShieldConan - Violence DimensionANGELL - Veiled by WoeSequestrum / Sněť - SplitSoils of Fate - Crime SyndicateFollow Matt "Skitz" SandersInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/blastabyss/Follow Atræ BilisFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/atraebilis/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atraebilis/Follow Fulci RotsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/fulcirots/Website: https://fulcirots.bigcartel.com/For all updates on Riff Worship follow us on Instagram and TwitterWatch Riff Worship on YouTubeWatch Review's from the Dylbozer's DinCheck out our official playlists:Riffs on Repeat (Spotify)Hits from the Crypt (Apple)

Soundtrack: The soundtrack, curated by director Rob Zombie, includes songs by Zombie himself along with Buck Owens and The Ramones, adding a gritty, Southern rock vibe. Background: Rob Zombie's directorial debut is heavily influenced by grindhouse films and 1970s horror. The music complements its chaotic and disturbing tone, with Zombie's own tracks amplifying the twisted atmosphere. 9. Resident Evil (2002) Synopsis: Alice, an amnesiac security operative, teams up with a group of commandos to investigate a deadly virus outbreak in a high-tech facility known as The Hive. In the early 90s, Max Cavalera (then of Sepultura) and Alex Newport (then of Fudge Tunnel) both resided in Phoenix, Arizona. A shared admiration for each other's music led to regular hangouts and jam sessions at the Cavalera household. As avid fans of hardcore punk and industrial acts of the era, the duo blended these influences into their own raw, unconventional sound. Whereas songs written for Fudge Tunnel and Sepultura underwent intense scrutiny, this new project embraced unfiltered expression. From experimenting with samplers to smashing the occasional washing machine, no idea was too wild to explore. Cavalera and Newport, or Nailbomb, never intended for these recordings to leave the practice space. However, with some persuasion, these sessions were immortalized on the band's sole full-length release and later brought to life with a rotating lineup of friends at Dynamo Open Air the following year. Join us this week as we celebrate Nailbomb and their only release, Point Blank. This week: a sister-cast episode to a series we have called the Inbetweeners where we on the bands straddling the 80s and 90s in rock n' punk n' metal. This is more specific to metal in the 90s after feeling the impact of the overwhelming shifting of sounds during the decade. Metal became a dirty word by the mid-90s as grunge and alternative took over the rock world, but a new movement in the metal genre blended all of these influences with the heavy. Thus, we give you - 90s Alternative Metal! What's this InObscuria thing? Our podcast exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover mostly bands that have been forgotten including some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the heavy metal 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and metal bands that began during this time put it all in an industrial-strength metal blender. Hope ya dig! Songs this week include:Quicksand – “Thorn In My Side” from Manic Compression (1995)Fragile Porcelain Mice – “Brown Nickel” from Frostbiddin (1996)Therapy? – “Nasuea” from Nurse (1992)Corrosion Of Conformity – “Clean My Wounds” from Deliverance (1994)Prong – “Unconditional” from Prove You Wrong (1991)Fight – “I Am Alive” from A Small Deadly Space (1995)Life Of Agony – “This Time” from River Runs Red (1993)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
Episode 170 Tom Brose of Confront After trying to dig in on the Chubby Fresh episode and not getting deep enough, we were pointed towards Tom Brose, who would eventually connect with and bring many of the great 80's Revelation Bands and more to the area. Confront was a band started by kids in high school and were invested in the straight edge bands that were growing in popularity. Having a direct line of traffic as a major stop for most touring bands, starting Confront gave Tom, Steve Murad (Mean Steve later of OLC) and others like Outface - Charlie Garriga of Civ, Derrick Green of Sepultura and later Tony Erba and Face Value ample opportunities to play with a host of out of town bands. We go deep in Cleveland hardcore from as early as Tom could recall and we walk our way up to the 1st Integrity 7" , which soon after Tom moved to DC. Tom's story is a classic and his ability to recollect details from the past allows the story to fully develop in the conversation. www.darkempire.bigcartel.com/product/pre-sale-confront-our-fight-87-90 www.instagram.com/theclevostyle www.instagram.com/crossfitdc www.instagram.com/jiujitsudc

This week, Neon Nightmare mastermind Nate Garrett joins the MetalSucks Podcast! He's here to discuss the release of Faded Dreams! In our chat, we discuss the excellent music videos created for the project and what inspired them. Other points of conversation include how 90's goth culture had a ridiculous aura associated with it, the negative experience of touring post-pandemic that he's not willing to partake in, and the genetic gift that some people have in conning people. We also discuss the Big Riff Podcast he's been doing the last year, and the model of news sites in modern times relying on the headline or quote. Petar and Sylvia discuss the exciting nominees this year for the Best Heavy Metal Performance Grammy Award, our picks for the winner we want to see and why, Geoff Tate deciding to create an Operation: Mindcrime III as a solo artist, Dino Cazares airing out more of Fear Factory's dirty laundry to its fans, Mötley Crüe helping out lives with a massive donation to the Covenant House, and the open invitation to the Cavalera Brothers to jam at the final Sepultura gig. Billy Graziadei reflects on some epic tours and reunions, the interview kicks off with nostalgia over seeing Biohazard live alongside acts like Ozzy Osbourne, Sepultura, and Danzig. Memories resurface of Biohazard's early tours, including unexpected moments that kept the band from rejoining Ozzfest. Fast forward, the discussion dives into Powerflo's raw, intense process behind their latest album, *Gorilla Warfare*, which is built from heavy collaboration and Sunday jam sessions. Balancing multiple bands, each member is focused on their love for music over fame, bringing everything they've got to keep rock and metal alive. Reflecting on his band's unique blend of metal and hip-hop, Billy explains that their sound evolved naturally from their diverse influences, rather than a planned fusion of styles. He emphasizes that he doesn't intentionally write for one band or the other; instead, he allows songs to find their own place within his projects. When working with PowerFlo, he values the collaborative process, especially with vocalist Sen Dog, where ideas flow freely and they build on each other's strengths. This organic approach fuels a sound that feels raw and authentic, bringing the best of their musical backgrounds together.
