Hosts: Evan "Vampt Vo" Minto, Zac Bertschy, Sean Russell Topic: The Anime News Network's editorial choice to cover fansubbed anime in their Fall Preview Guide To wash down our long discussion of digital distribution last episode, this time we've got an interview with Zac Bertschy, Executive Editor at the Anime News Network, about a related topic: fansubs. Specifically, my questions revolved around ANN's choice to cover anime that has not been licensed or legally released in America in their Preview Guide a decision which necessitates the use by ANN's paid writers of illegally distributed fansubs. Sean Russell of Anime 3000 kindly recorded the discussion and contributed some of his own thoughts as well. If you've got an opinion on the issue, don't be afraid to let us know in the comments section or through email. Next episode I'll probably post something that I recorded at New York Anime Festival: either the Yoshiyuki Tomino Question & Answer session or a brief podcast episode with Erin and Noah of the Ninja Consultant Podcast.

In this special episode, straight from the 2008 New York Anime Festival, I interview prolific voice actors Tony Oliver, Kyle Hebert, and Steve Blum. All three of them worked on Gurren Lagann (ADR Director, Kamina, and Leeron respectively), but they've also played characters from Robotech, Eureka Seven, Dragonball Z, Cowboy Bebop, The Big O, and even Toonami! On a more technical note, I'd like to extend a special expression of thanks to Kyle and Steve, since when the room we were in didn't have power (hence making my laptop useless), they used their iPhones to record the interview. The recording used in the podcast is from Kyle's phone, so you have him to thank for saving this interview. Okay, funny story: This post's picture (left to right: Tony, me, Kyle, Steve) was actually taken by voice actor Bill Rogers, who I only recognized AFTER I had asked him for the picture. Thanks Bill!

Here we are at episode five already! Tune in this episode to hear Karl "Uncle Yo" Custer and I ramble aimlessly about the recent psychological drama anime Ghost Hound, Production I.G.'s 20th Anniversary project. We've got the Links of the Day segment thrown in at the end there, but What'cha Been Doing is M.I.A. for this episode. FYI, the audio balancing on this episode is probably going to be criminally off thanks to tech problems with Karl's new mic. Oh, and check us out at New York Anime Festival. Karl and I will be rocking the podcast gig at his artist's alley table, so you pretty much need to come say hi and bring meaning to our purposeless lives.
