John is back home from a very crappy anime con and ready to talk a WHOLE lot of wrestling! Their good pal Arametha is back to hear them complain about how much Otakon sucked (again), how much their latest flight to Japan cost, and- especially- how bad The Zoomers™ are at taking turns at arcade games, but eventually they get around to talking some wrestling too! First, it's three nights of the STARDOM 5 Star GP (Nights 9-11- 8/3, 8/8 & 8/9), a mixed bag of shows from Korakuen and Sapporo, as the picture starts to get a lot clearer on who's moving on (especially in the Red Blocks!). Then it's the NJPW G1 Climax (Nights 12-15- 8/6, 8/8, 8/9 & 8/11) as they talk a legitimate MOTYC *and* a couple Worst Match of the Year contenders! Wow! And no, one of them wasn't *that* match. The third and final ongoing tournament they check in on is the Tokyo Joshi Princess Cup, as they cover the quarterfinals from 8/8 at Ryogoku KFC Hall- featuring an amazing match between Suzume and Shoko Nakajima! They also speculate on who among the final four will ultimately take home the crown. Then it's over to NOAH for the first time in a while as John watched two (2) whole matches, but Arametha thankfully watched way more than that. One of the matches John did watch though was, swear to god, a ****1/2 Tetsuya Naito match. In 2026. Truly wild. They also discuss the revealed blocks for the 2026 N-1 Victory tournament.Up next it's Marvelous' 8/8 Korakuen Hall show featuring two matches that John happens to think are a bit overhyped, and also a very funny wrestler-joining-a-unit angle. And then finally the episode wraps up with a check in on Marigold (another one we haven't talked about much in forever) to see how things are going over there for their big 8/9 Ota Ward Gym show. Spoiler: Not particularly well! And then they talk about the Dream Star GP blocks, aka Why The Fuck Is Megaton In This.Follow Wrestling Omakase on Twitter: http://twitter.com/wrestleomakaseFollow John on BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/justoneenby.bsky.socialAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We're all mad at Sony for ALL of the reasons right now. But we're not mad at Discotek since they and AnimEigo alike offer everyone really cool things and actually treat their customers like people, unlike Sony who treats people with contempt and locks their store behind a paid Crunchyroll subscription. We're also not mad at Anime Limited for getting Banana Fish and committing to put it on a disc sometime soon, unlike Sony who would rather get rid of discs the for the glory and benefit of their spreadsheet-loving C-suite. And we're also not mad at the Criterion Channel service for getting Neon Genesis Evangelion on their platform next month (ADV dub included, per reports) since they know people like old things, unlike Sony who will gladly let old things lapse so people can't get them anymore. The point is, we're mad at Sony. But we're not mad at other folks and other companies. Enjoy our show where we offer both the yin and yang of this mess of an industry. Hello Adventurers! Right on the heels of the Berlin FanFest was Otakon, an anime con in Washington DC. They even had some awesome Final Fantasy XIV guests there, too! The men, the myths, the legends, Michael-Christopher Koji Fox (Localization Director at Square Enix) and Toshio “Foxclon” Murouchi (Head of Square Enix's Community & Service Division and Global Community Producer for Final Fantasy XIV), to be exact. And somehow, we were fortunate enough to get to interview them!  But to really give our Adventurers as much Koji and Foxclon content as we could, we also talk about two of the panels they were on while at Otakon. The ones we cover are Adventures in Localization: Koji Fox's Journey Across FINAL FANTASY XI, XIV, and XVI and Duty Finder: Otakon 2026 – A FINAL FANTASY XIV Community Panel. So this episode has plenty of bang for your gil! The Spoiler Food is: Evercold Shaved Ice “Thinly shaved ice, generously heaped into an oversmall bowl and drizzled with sweet-yet-tangy rolanberry syrup. Why it never melts is a question best served cold.” The reason that this is the spoiler food will be come evident during the interview. That said, oddly enough despite the name of the food has “Evercold” in the name… This episode overall is actually pretty spoiler light? But you'll find out why in the interview too! Funny how that works.  OSMnotes Thank you once again to Sqaure Enix, the Final Fantasy XIV development team, and Otakon for the interview. We say it a bunch during the episode, but it's no less true now. And here are some Time Cues: 00:00:00 – We Start The Carbuncle Chronicling 00:00:50 – Intro and General Gabbing 00:08:11 – Michael-Christopher Koji Fox & Toshio “Foxclon” Murouchi Interview @ Otakon 2026 00:08:11 – Some Post-Interview Chatter About Otakon 2026 and Their Panels 00:08:16 – That time when Koji approved of a badge pun 00:09:45 – Adventures in Localization: Koji Fox's Journey Across FINAL FANTASY XI, XIV, and XVI 00:17:42 – Duty Finder: Otakon 2026 – A FINAL FANTASY XIV Community Panel 00:23:30 – Wrapping Things Up! It's another tournament season edition of Wrestling Omakase, and it's also time once again to take Omakase on the road to DC! John is recording this chronologically while attending two Blue Jays games and a VERY underwhelming Otakon convention in the capital of one of the shittiest nations on god's green Earth, but unlike last year they decided to arrange it by promotion still, so this one is REALLY all over the place. But there's some great stuff here too, as first John goes solo to discuss three more nights of the 5 Star GP in STARDOM including the long-awaited first tournament matches of TV's Julia Hart™! Oh, and also some much better matches featuring the likes of Saya Kamitani, Starlight Kid, Momo Watanabe and many more, but really mostly TV's Julia Hart™. Can you believe she had three matches and the *Ruaka match* was the best one by far? Me neither, but it happened! Then John is joined by their good friend Quinlan for four more nights of the NJPW G1 Climax, and boy do they have some TAKES for you on this one! They cover Yota Tsuji's incredible tournament, a very divisive match with Yuto-Ice, whether some people are actually just too stupid to be watching Japanese professional wrestling, and a whole lot more! Finally, the episode wraps up with John going solo again to break down night 3 of the Tokyo Joshi Princess Cup, featuring an outstanding power battle between Yuki Aino and Miu Watanabe, a couple shocking eliminations, and Pom Harajuku trying to catch Suzume in a bug net like she's a goddamn Bug Catcher from Pokemon. Another weekend of Anime Expo has come and gone, and with it came a LOT of things from all corners, a true cornucopia of styles for just about everyone: take your pick, be it green yuri with Nirvana or nice boats with School Days... yes, really, as well as plenty of manga to come later this year and next year, TRIGGER leading us on with the fourth Imaishi/Nakashima project coming soon, AnimEigo giving everyone an appetizer plate before Discotek takes over Otakon, a first look at the new Star Wars Visions project, and some info on Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 as was always planned (ahem ahem) and the reveal of more STEEL BALL RUN coming in the fall so everyone can stop breathing down Netflix's necks. Xan takes a critical look at the sci-fi manga Rai Rai Rai by Yoshiaki This fast-paced series follows a struggling space exterminator who gets abducted and implanted with a deadly alien entity. Show Notes 0:00: The two hosts of TheOASG Podcast return once again to talk about what they’ve been up to over the past few weeks, which involves Justin talking about the Star Detective Precure and Detective Conan collaboration and Helen talking Shonen Jump catchup, Bookworm Part 3, and Ramparts of Ice! News 23:02: Dark Horse staff recently formed a union (Dark Horse Workers United), and the company has recognized it — the hosts will see how negotiations will go moving forward; Japanese VA Kenjirō Tsuda filed a lawsuit against the operator of the video-sharing app TikTok for posting videos that allegedly used AI (artificial intelligence) to imitate his voice without permission, and it will be something to monitor moving forward. 29:46: Let’s just say voice actor Kazuki Atsumi might have had a future in the talent industry, but after his contract was terminated by his agency following a report of him being arrested for suspected sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl, the future ain’t looking great for him; meanwhile One-Punch Man artist Yūsuke Murata decided he had to comment on a very wild post about Pakistani Britons, and the comment was so bad that people in many languages criticized him. 34:44: Animator and character designer Kunihiko Hamada shared that he is no longer working at Madhouse — the two hosts discuss Madhouse letting him go after 35 years and how they let him go; Justin and Helen have questions and some concerns on Aki Sora manga creator Masahiro Itosugi saying he has banned by Google while uploading older works to Google Drive. 39:39: A few Japanese magazines will be ending soon or sometime this year; the Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun Finals manga will enter a hiatus following the 100th chapter; Nippon Sangoku will go on hiatus as creator Ikka Matsuki recovers from steroid withdrawal syndrome; and Eiji Hashimoto announced they will temporary switch to a triweekly schedule for Rappa: Yankee Ninpū Chō after a two-week hiatus due to numerous ailments he’s going through right now. 44:43: Galaxy Express 999 lyricist Jun Hashimoto sadly passed away in a Tokyo hospital at 86 due to liver cirrhosis; Screenwriter Takao Koyama posted on X/Twitter a few weeks ago that scriptwriter Hiroyuki Kawasaki had died on January 23 at 60 years old; and Japanese film director and special effects artist Yoshihiro Nishimura died at 59 — Variety reported that Nishimura had been in the hospital for nearly two weeks fighting a liver disease. Licenses 47:37: Another Taiyo Matsumoto manga has been licensed — but not by VIZ, by Manga Mavericks Books instead!; Aloha Comics announced they’ve licensed Ikuno Tajima’s After Märchen (Ever After in English) as their first ever manga license; K MANGA added a few new titles to its service; and so did Manga UP!; Kogattuo & Ichika Kino's World Wide Web MIKO! has been added to MANGA Plus. 51:21: Not new licenses, but might as well be considering some of these titles have been out of print for a long while! Look out for a couple Jiro Taniguchi titles, Hideo Azuma’s Disappearance Diary, and Kiriko Nananan’s Blue at some point this year; And with Otakon happening next month, Discotek announced a couple titles ahead of it, including the next entry of Digimon for them (Tamers) and the Hana Yori Dango anime. Streaming News 53:00: GKIDS acquired the North American theatrical rights for Adolescence of Utena and will screen the movie in Japanese with English subtitles in US theaters June 21-22, which has Helen in a pickle; JUJUTSU KAISEN Hidden Inventory / Premature Death compilation film and English dubs for Given: Hiiragi mix and Given The Movie: To the Sea, and the Bean Counter OVA are now on Crunchyroll. 55:49: HIDIVE has announced their comings and goings from the service this month, from the Heavy Metal L-Gaim TV anime and OVAs to The Life of Budori Gusuko being added, while Get Backers, Humanity Has Declined, Mayo Chiki!, and Wasteful Days of High School Girl anime are leaving HIDIVE on June 30; premieres of the Cherry and Virgin film and the Sekiro: No Defeat anime will happen at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival. 58:34: And yes, Conan Cinema Saturdays has returned this summer…which means Justin will just be vibing and getting these movies views instead of watching most of them properly this year! Weird News 1:00:25: Osaka's holding an exhibition of 17th Century Dutch masterpieces, and it's set to take place at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka between August 21 to September 27. Somehow, Frieren and Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring is a part of it as a crossover, and Helen had a great story to tell involving earrings and which one it needs to go on for this rabbit, but found out that those without a Bluesky account can’t see it. Guess who found this out mid-podcast? 1:03:43: We will now have Baki’s dad in Tekken 8, meaning these anime/manga characters appearing in fighting games has gone up somehow. 1:05:19: Usually we put a manga getting a US live action in this section because again, these normally don’t work out very well — somehow it’s that and weird because it’s one of most unlikeliest manga to get a US live-action series…it’s based off a Josei manga series! Show Notes 0:00: Justin and Helen return from hibernation (and attempting to stay warm in the East coast) to resume recording episodes of It’s Not My Fault TheOASG Podcast is Not Popular, and with the break, means catching up to things from even late December to January. The hosts start with once again a scanlation site shutting down, and what this ultimately means considering who was involved (and maybe not Kakao, which gets both hosts explaining how manhwa copyrights are…crazy) News 12:36: MediaOCD will be distributing Discotek Media’s catalog (as much as they can), and based on information online this project seems to have been sped up following a number of home media titles being delisted on Crunchyroll. This gets both hosts speculating on what this means, and why it sometimes now gets harder and harder to support official publishers. 18:59: Netflix continues making some deals as they’ve worked out a partnership with MAPPA and will be working with TOHO (and their new studio) to produce a bunch of works in a couple years 21:35: We got some hiatuses and returns to cover, starting with The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses manga being continued; after just not having any new chapters since 2022, The Girl, the Shovel, and the Evil Eye manga will return and also finish in a couple chapters; Kemono Jihen is taking a one-issue break due to Sho Aimoto suffering from gastroenteritis to start 2026; Phantom Busters will be on break as something’s going on with Neoshoco, the hosts hope they’re ok; The hosts break down what the heck’s going on with The New Prince of Tennis series as it went through some major editor mismanagement, enough to wear there could not be a new chapter in Jump SQ; The Days of Diamond will go on hiatus, no announcement on its return; Bocchi the Rock! was intended to return this month, but Aki Hamaji’s health has not improved enough to return to serialization, so the hiatus will continue; and in final manga hiatuses, Hajime no Ippo’s taking a break, no announcement on when it’ll return. 25:38: Makes sense that Go Nagai will be inducted into this year’s Eisner’s Hall of Fame, took them long enough; Manga creator Hisashi Eguchi apologized in December after tracing allegations were made back in October that had a number of companies suspend working with him; Chitose in the Ramune Bottle’s got some work to do following its delay due to production issues; And apparently A Tale of the Secret Saint needs more work as it’s been pushed from Spring to Fall season; What in the world is going with the Madoka movie? Well no one knows except that’s now been delayed from its release this month to an unannounced date; and the voice of Hitomi Koshigaya, Yumiri Hanamori, stepped down from the role for an undisclosed reason. So for the upcoming Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. anime, there will need to be a new voice for her. 30:53: Talent agency Aoni Production announced that voice actor Kōzō Shioya had died on January 20 due to cerebral hemorrhage — a number of people noted his impact on them and sent their condolences on social media on this difficult loss. Streaming News 41:34: The Dangers in My Heart compilation film will be screened in some of the more popular cities this month; Whoever Steals This Book has been acquired by Crunchyroll and will also make its debut at the New York International Children’s Film Festival. 43:11: Remember when Oshi no Ko S3 got picked up by Crunchyroll? What did that mean for HIDIVE since they had the first two seasons? Absolutely nothing apparently since HIDIVE is still streaming it; Justin gets to talk about his excitement about the Umamusume Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era being in theaters at the end of the month; And Helen wonders why ALDNOAH.ZERO is back as Crunchyroll has added the English dub — which includes a new episode that aired in Japan last year — to their service. 46:10: A few anime will be on Netflix this year: Kyoto Animation’s Sparks of Tomorrow (in the summer) and Studio KAI’s Ramparts of Ice (in Spring); 47:05: So there were two anime that aired in Japan last year — April Showers Bring May Flowers and Monster Strike: Deadverse Reloaded — that was not picked up by an official service…until now! Prime now is streaming these anime; Fawesome began streaming the Despair of the Monster indie anime film sometime this past December, but at the moment only those in Canada and the UK can watch it. Weird News 49:18: More news about live-action Gundam keeps pouring out, and it gets even closer to becoming a real thing; Pokémon and Hatsune Miku is a thing again; The X (Twitter) continues to just get worse and its editing image feature for lots of people had a couple artists saying they do not want to put their illustrations on there. 55:36: The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio is over!…in print! It’s still ongoing digitally though. This gets Helen wondering however… 57:48: Sugar Sugar Rune has been added to Tubi…BUT there's a reason why it's in the weird news section! So far not at Tai Chi Chasers level, but… 59:32: Rumiko Takahashi made a trip to San Francisco some time ago (which can probably mean VIZ and her are cooking something) and visited a museum — somehow Bible Black is brought up in this part (Why Helen, just why); Justin wonders if Sazae-san is gearing up to be released overseas moving forward now that it’ll see its first overseas release in Taiwan; Otakon announced on Bluesky on Thursday the event is no longer allowing the sale of fan art in its dealers room beginning with the 2026 event, and Helen explains what this means. 1:05:17: Anime can make famous actors cry — see Michael B. This week on Wrestling Omakase we're still on the road, so it's another live-to-tape/running audio blog edition as we keep you up to date with all of the tournament action across two promotions! This time around we go in chronological order through both promotions, alternating between NJPW G1 Climax & STARDOM 5 Star GP shows. John is once again joined by their good friend Quinlan to break down the G1 shows and goes solo on the 5 Star shows, coming live from a hotel room in DC for a bunch of it. So you get some random thoughts about Otakon too mixed in, because why not? Also, John made a bunch of AEW fans mad again. Shocking news there. With guest appearances by multiple other people, an unruly hotel room air conditioner, and the sound of Nicole's controller, it's a hell of a show! Also one of these G1 shows really sucked and we had to bury it a lot, but hey, at least all the 5 Star stuff was good!Follow Wrestling Omakase on Twitter: @WrestleOmakaseFollow John on Bluesky: @justoneenbyAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
