Peter Simi is a professor of Sociology at Chapman University, and an expert on extremist groups and violence in the US. Sara Winegar Budge holds a doctorate in Psychology and is a licensed psychologist in Oregon. She is the Director of US Programs at Moonshot, which builds technology to identify and disrupt organized crime, child sexual exploitation, and trafficking, among other forms of abuse and violence. Here I was, minding my own business, when I was bothered by the icon only showing a generic icon for the Beeper app. Now, I'm not saying that Duck.ai is not useful, but be very careful what you ask for. It was probably a combination of the early morning, and not reading completely through the AI suggestions, but I ended up losing all icons on the Gnome desktop except for a few like Firefox. I won't leave the problematic command so I don't trip up the listener, but it involved updating a desktop database. This in turn left a dash or blank where the icons should be. If that wasn't bad enough, it was suggested to reset Gnome settings, and nothing was as it seemed before. Things that I had taken for granted were not there. You forget what custom settings are there when mistakes like this are made. So the short answer is that the icons directory, located on my Debian system should be located in .local/share/icons. Instead it was in a sub-directory .local/share/icons/icons Correcting the directory location solved everything, but I was still left to reset my custom Gnome keybindings. • Swap Escape and Caps lock key I used this because I am a Vim user, and this feels more natural when I need to hit Escape to change modes. In Gnome, the setting is under Gnome Tweaks > Keyboard > Additional Layout Options > Swap Esc and Caps Lock Key As of this show release the current stable version is Trixie. Gnome Tweaks - Debian Trixie can be installed by sudo apt install gnome-tweaks on any Debian based system. • Compose key • Compose key shortcuts The Compose key is found at Settings > Keyboard > Compose Key. At the dawn of a new millennium car buyers were spoilt for choice when it came to really clever and innovative cars. There was the Renault Scénic, the original MPV that showed you can pack a large family into not a lot of car. Then there was the Mercedes A class, a masterclass in space management, with a cleverly packaged engine that allowed for the maximum interior space. And don't forget the hideous but highly innovative Fiat Multipla that offered three wide seating that could be removed to turn a family car into something that could best a Volvo estate. Audi entered the fray with another highly innovative car, the A2. It followed on the heels of the TT, another car that took Audi to new engineering heights. The A2 was Audi's new mass car, a vehicle they hoped would appear on every middle class family's driveway. Yet, the car was a colossal failure, only selling 176,000 cars before its production run was unceremoniously cut short. Just why was that, and how was it so innovative?

John Marks is a remarkable social entrepreneur who, with his wife Susan Collins Marks, built the largest peace building organization in the world, Search for Common Ground. When they stepped down from leadership in 2014, Search had 600 full time employees and offices in 35 countries. Search was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018.His new book, From Vision to Action: Remaking the World Through Social Entrepreneurship, explains how he built Search for Common Ground, and what made it so successful. His new book delivers practical guidance on building bridges and creating meaningful change. Imagine living next door to a person who murdered your father, raped your sister, or even killed your child. This was the case for many people in Sierra Leone who endured a brutal civil war from 1991 to 2002: the majority of the 50,000 who died were those killed by their own neighbors. While working with a program that facilitates ritual reconciliation processes in Sierra Leone, a process known as fambul tok (or “family talk”), peacebuilder and philanthropist Libby Hoffman learned that justice for Sierra Leonians isn't about punishing or ousting a perpetrator. Rather, justice comes through making the community whole again. “When you hurt somebody, you don't just hurt them; you hurt the community as well,” says Hoffman. In this episode, host Jamil Simon speaks with Libby Hoffman about fambul tok, a process she calls “building peace from the inside out.” Fambul tok is an ancient tradition where disputes are solved through community-wide conversation around a bonfire. In this post-war context, Hoffman and her team facilitated the revival of the practice for Sierra Leonians. Hoffman also documented this remarkable peacebuilding process in her award-winning documentary film Fambul Tok, which has itself catalyzed further reconciliation within Sierra Leone's war-torn communities. Hoffman book about her experiences in Sierre Leone is called The Answers Are There: Building Peace from the Inside Out.Libby Hoffman is the founder and President of Catalyst for Peace, a US-based private foundation building peace from the inside-out – creating space for those most impacted by violence to lead in building the peace, supported by healthy, inclusive systems.
