Yes, the world may be on fire and/or a frigid wasteland at the same time, but we're still here and still kicking. And to prove that there is still some good in the world (along with football YouTuber Tom Grossi raising over a million dollars for charity in one week) there's a very long-awaited announcement: NO. 6 IS GETTING A NEW NOVEL. Let's hope that the reunion will, indeed, be coming for those boys. And along with that, we have the news of BOCCHI THE SECOND SEASON happening, Masaaki Yuasa starting up a new studio, an hour's worth of book announcements from several publishers (even from Tokyopop, but just briefly), Fate/stay night airing on a... *curious* cable TV channel, some ripples in the Gundam pipeline, the recent AnimEigo "town hall" announcements, and a whole lot of dumb shenanigans to help distract all of you from the real world at large. And if all else fails, just wait for the Canada gooses to begin their attack. [10x6] We take our first step into animation and Japanese film with 1985's Vampire Hunter D from director Toyoo Ashida, which adapts the famous novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi about a half-human/half-vampire ridding the world of the undead in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth's been overrun with monsters and mutants... To help us, making his debut on the show is comic-book writer Jared Wayne Gifford... Hosts: Dan Owen & Hugh McStay Guest: Jared Wayne Gifford Editor: Dan Owen "I have lived in this world for 10,0000 years, and yet you lack the capacity to understand what that truly means. When years cease to have meaning, boredom is a mortal foe. It is a war for constant stimulation, and if that means debasing our line with humans, then so be it." -- Count Magnus Lee Subscribe and leave a rating or review to support the show.
It's been almost a year since we watched the first Vampire Hunter D movie, which unfortunately didn't hold up to Mackenzie's nostalgia. But, will Bloodlust suck us in or suck us dry?!

Howdy! On today's all new episode of PCMC Mike is joined, once again, by Bill Gagliardi. Bill is a huge fan of the 1985 anime classic Vampire Hunter D, and Mike has never seen it until now. Mike and Bill discuss how rad the anime is. It's aesthetics, it's story, it's characters, what it's influences are, and what it influenced in current pop culture. This is fun nerdy one for the anime fans out there, but even if haven't seen the movie, you're gonna love this discussion. If you like the show subscribe and drop us a review! You know listeners, I miss the 1980s and 1990s. During this time anime was in your face with insane stories, spectacular characters, and over-the-top ultra-violence that is rarely seen in our modern era. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, and many others would define my anime fandom during this time. Anime just wasn't a really well-known thing back in then like it is today. Lily C.A.T. is perhaps not as spectacular as the original Vampire Hunter D, but it does pay a LOT of homage to great horror sci-fi films such as the Aliens franchise. It also most certainly takes elements from The Thing as well, and others too. In this episode, we will talk about this strange little-known sci-fi horror anime, the films that it was inspired by, and whether this is a classic OVA (original video animation) that you should go out of your way to see or just obscure anime trash. All this and much more, on this episode of the United Nations of Horror! The United Nations of Horror is a Podcast about ALL THINGS HORROR! From thrillers of yesteryear to today's modern-day horror, we are here to present fun and intelligent conversation about the genre films we love! Paris Marx is joined by Molly Crabapple to discuss why AI image generation tools are a threat to illustrators and why we need to refuse the idea that Silicon Valley's visions of technology are inevitable. Well, it's my highly-clever (ok not really) name for episodes where I go back and revisit an older title I haven't seen in a long time, and see if what I remember (and what my opinions on it) are still the same now that some time's gone by. This month, I dig into a dark 80s fantasy OVA film with character designs by Yoshitaka Amano! No, it's NOT that vampire one you're thinking of–it's the much lesser-known Amon Saga! Is this one worth revisiting, or does it belong stuck at the bottom of the DVD bargain bin? New members only, not available in remote locations. See additional terms at https://bit.ly/GOPELOTONBW The conversation revolves around anime and a quiz Johnny Spoiler and the crew took to determine which Sailor Moon character they are. Jordan mentions being Sailor Mars, while Dave is Sailor Moon. They discuss the powers and attributes of these characters, including Sailor Mars' fiery nature and Sailor Moon's heroism. Johnny Spoiler also mentions being assigned the character Sailor Pluto, who has the power to manipulate time. They talk about the quiz aligning well with each individual's personality traits. Regarding the Transformers franchise, Johnny Spoiler expressed some skepticism or dissatisfaction with the casting choices and character adaptations. Dave mentioned Chris Hemsworth's voice not being fitting for the character, and Johnny's preference for other Transformers films comes up. It's important to note that casting decisions and character portrayals are subjective and can vary between different adaptations and interpretations of a franchise. As for the vampire-related films, we mentioned "Blood: The Last Vampire" and "Love, Death & Robots: Sucker of Souls." "Blood: The Last Vampire" originated as an anime film and later spawned manga adaptations and two anime series, "Blood+" and "Blood C." The film is known for being one of the first all-digital anime creations. "Love, Death & Robots" is an anthology series, and "Sucker of Souls" is one of the episodes. It features an archeological dig unearthing Dracula and his battle against mercenaries while the villain has a fear or allergy to cats. Jordan Savage mentions the "Bits for Blood" and "Sucker of Souls" movies and shares her favorite scenes from each. Johnny Spoiler adds his favorite scenes and references Buffy. Dangerous Dave jokes about a former host named Nick and the Canadian love for him. Finally, they conclude by discussing the ratings of both movies, with Jordan Savage giving a "binge" rating and Dangerous Dave giving a "binge later" rating. Johnny Spoiler discusses the anime Dirty Pair. Johnny advises Dangerous Dave not to watch it, calling it a "dirty pair," which elicits laughter. Johnny Spoiler suggests looking up the anime and having fun with it, but Dangerous Dave expresses reluctance, fearing that watching it might infect his computer. Johnny Spoiler responds by joking that Dave's computer is already infected. They continue their banter about computer operating systems and online security, mentioning Windows versions and the use of Norton. Johnny Spoiler mentions a documentary about the activities of the person behind Norton. They then talk about their upcoming anime month and the arrival of puppets for their show. They mention a giveaway of Vampire Hunter D box sets and encourage listeners to leave reviews for a chance to win. They briefly discuss their limited knowledge of Vampire Hunter D and potential sequels, as well as other anime they have watched, including Vampire Hunter D and The Mist. Johnny Spoiler brings up the ending of The Mist and recommends watching it. The conversation concludes with a mention of a true crime show on HBO and a similar show on Hulu, both involving the name "Candy" in some way. They briefly discuss the actresses involved in the Hulu show. They also mention watching "Bottle Shock," a movie about American wine in Napa Valley and a competition with French wine. Johnny Spoiler jokes about having Chris Pine on his celebrity cheat card, and Jordan Savage jokes about Chris Pine's beautiful eyebrows. The conversation becomes playful and light-hearted, with mentions of YouTube videos and audience reactions. They make humorous references to Chris Pine and express the desire to push the boundaries of the audience's reactions. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
