Listeners meet Bianca Fernandez-Clark, a seven-time Ironman finisher, co-founder of Women in Tri UK, and a tireless advocate for inclusion in endurance sport. What begins as a conversation about one woman's journey into triathlon quickly becomes something bigger. This is a story about learning to swim at 29, navigating start lines as a Black Latino woman, and transforming isolation into impact for hundreds of women who deserve to feel seen in triathlon. Bianca did not grow up swimming or cycling. She entered the sport for her mental health and found herself in elite-focused spaces that did not always know what to do with a true beginner. Her first Ironman 70.3 was about making cutoffs rather than podiums. That experience as a beginner triathlete became the blueprint for change. After an unexpected opportunity to race at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, where she became the first Dominican athlete to compete, she realized that representation in triathlon matters more than most people understand. The visibility inspired others back home and clarified her mission moving forward. That mission evolved into Women in Tri UK, a thriving community of more than 700 members. What began as financial support for first-timers has grown into mentorship, research, advocacy, and race partnerships that are shifting the landscape for women in triathlon. From pushing for larger swim caps to advocating for pregnancy deferrals and more inclusive race policies, the work is practical and powerful. This episode reminds us that triathlon is not only about splits and transitions. It is fundamentally about belonging. Entrerà ufficialmente in carica l'8 maggio prossimo e sarà la seconda donna presidente dello stato dell'America centrale. Leader del Partito Pueblo Soberano (PPSO), è considerata erede del presidente uscente, Rodrigo Chaves, del quale intende proseguire le politiche. Con il 96,87% delle schede scrutinate alle 12:00 del 2 febbraio, Fernández ha ottenuto 1.191.727 voti (48,30%). Come riporta Aciprensa in un ampio commento dove riferisce la vittoria elettorale e tratteggia il profilo della neo eletta, «avendo superato la soglia del 40% richiesta dalla legge elettorale, non sarà necessario un secondo turno. Oltre alla presidenza, questa domenica sono stati eletti i 57 membri dell'Assemblea Legislativa. Il partito del Popolo Sovrano ha ottenuto 31 seggi, assicurandosi così la maggioranza nell'organismo che approva le leggi. Il Partito di Liberazione Nazionale ne avrà 17, il Fronte Ampio 7, mentre i restanti due sono stati divisi tra la Coalizione Agenda Cittadina e il Partito dell'Unità Sociale Cristiana».Quello che gli osservatori frettolosamente definiscono come essere conservatrice, si declina per la Fernandez in fede cattolica vissuta e conseguente difesa dei valori non negoziabili, a partire da quella della vita che secondo la presidente entrante va difesa dal concepimento alla morte naturale. Il 2 febbraio, nella sua prima conferenza stampa, Fernández ha ringraziato "Dio e il popolo della Costa Rica" per i risultati elettorali. «"Confido in Dio, che so sarà con noi ogni giorno e ogni minuto del prossimo governo", ha aggiunto. L'accesso all'aborto cosiddetto terapeutico è permesso quindi dall'ottobre del 2025 solo in caso di pericolo imminente per la vita della madre. «Dopo l'abrogazione, Fernández ha dichiarato di essere "enormemente soddisfatta perché la legge precedente, che conteneva indebite lacune che mettevano a rischio la vita dei bambini non ancora nati, è stata abrogata"». La presidente entrante ha inserito nel suo piano di governo cinque principi guida fondamentali e uno di essi è proprio sui valori portanti della "vita, la famiglia e i valori che ci definiscono come nazione". Nel documento dichiara che ogni politica pubblica sarà "progettata e pianificata per proteggere la vita e le nostre famiglie". Altre priorità che si è data Fernandez riguardano la giustizia sociale, la sicurezza e la lotta al crimine organizzato - il narcotraffico approfitta della posizione strategica del paese.«"Riconosciamo, in questo momento, non solo il culmine di un processo elettorale, ma l'inizio di un compito impegnativo e di grande responsabilità: servire l'intera nazione, nella sua diversità di opinioni, sensibilità e realtà sociali", hanno affermato i vescovi. Hanno affermato che coloro che presto assumeranno i loro incarichi avranno "la sfida di unire il Paese, sanare le divisioni e promuovere un clima di dialogo, rispetto e sincera ricerca del bene"». Così si sono espressi i vescovi del paese in una dichiarazione all'indomani del voto congratulandosi con Laura Fernández Delgado e gli altri deputati eletti. Episode No. 745 is a holiday weekend clips show featuring artist Christina Fernandez. Fernandez is included in "Chicano Camera Culture: A Photographic History, 1966-2026" at the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside (Calif.) Art Museum. The exhibition explores the evolution of Chicana/o/x lens-based practices through over 150 pictures made across six decades. The exhibition is on view at both RAM locations, and will remain at The Cheech through September 6, and at RAM's Julia Morgan-designed building through July 5. through It was curated by Elizabeth Ferrer. Concurrently, Fernandez's 2002 Lavanderia #2 is on view in the National Gallery of Art's permanent collection galleries. The NGA holds at least six pictures from the series. This episode was taped in 2023 on the occasion of the Hammer Museum, University of California, Los Angeles' post-renovation-and-expansion debut exhibition "Together in Time: Selections from the Hammer's Contemporary Collection," and as the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth was showing "Christina Fernandez: Multiple Exposures," a survey of Fernandez's career.
