Streaming video is not new to the library environment, but recent years have seen an exponential growth in the number of platforms and titles available for streaming. For libraries, this has meant an increasingly complex acquisitions landscape, with more vendors occupying the marketplace and larger portions of the budget dedicated to streaming. Users increasingly expect video content to be available online and on demand, and streaming video is increasingly integrated into coursework. In Streaming Video Collection Development and Management (Bloomsbury, 2025), Michael Fernandez and Amauri Serrano outline the myriad challenges of managing streaming video content across all stages of the electronic resources lifecycle, from initial collection decisions to the user's experience of accessing the content. At every step, they provide practical advice on how to handle these challenges regardless of the size and budget of the institution. Librarians at community colleges, research institutions, specialized schools, and public libraries will find this a valuable and engaging guide. Michael Fernandez is the Head of Technical Services at Boston University, where he oversees a department tasked with managing electronic resources, cataloging, and processing physical collections. Previously he has held e-resource positions at Yale University and American University. He has published and presented on topics in e-resource management and currently serves as assistant editor for Library Resources & Technical Services in addition to being on the editorial board for The Serials Librarian. Amauri Serrano is the Head of Collection Strategy at Yale University Library, USA, where she leads and coordinates the library's holistic collection development and management strategy in all formats and is responsible for the collections budget. She was previously Central Collection Development Librarian at Yale and a humanities librarian at Florida State University and Appalachian State University. She has published book chapters and given presentations on collection development in the humanities, user outreach, and library instruction. Host: Dr. Michael LaMagna is the Information Literacy Program & Library Services Coordinator and Professor of Library Services at Delaware County Community College. Learn more about your ad choices. In this powerful conversation with Ed Fernandez, we dive deep into what it really means to be a giant killer. What happens when you sell a 100-employee company at 28 and decide freedom matters more than settling down? Lauren Fernandez didn't just dream about working from anywhere—she made it a reality. But this isn't a glossy “digital nomad” story. It's the unfiltered truth about building a recruiting business while navigating serious health challenges, redefining success, and realizing your best life might look nothing like others expect. Lauren is the founder of Palm Coast Staffing, a legal recruiting practice she built while traveling the U.S. in an RV. After selling her first company with 100+ employees across three states, she and her husband skipped the mortgage and bought an RV instead. In this episode, Lauren reveals her three-section daily system that creates freedom through discipline, why she believes relationships beat cold calls, and how she structured her firm to keep running through unexpected crises. Episode Outline and Highlights [2:51] From selling rocks as a kid to building and selling a 100-employee company by age 28. [8:17] Hiring over 1,000 people—and what it taught her about matching success to the individual. [13:07] Rejecting the house for an RV and a new staffing business. [15:10] The unglamorous reality behind digital nomad life. [18:23] Her three-bucket daily planning system (no tech required). [23:19] An anti-cold calling philosophy: “find people where they are.” [27:59] Why returning to the same conferences builds long-term credibility. [34:42] Combating recruiting industry distrust through authentic relationships. [38:25] Running a business while navigating her husband's serious health diagnosis. [44:52] Why entrepreneurial lows aren't as devastating as you think—and highs aren't as high. On Building a Business That Serves Your Life After selling her first company, Lauren chose differently. When her husband was later diagnosed with myositis and developed stage three heart failure, their flexible model proved its worth. In her words: “Success looks different for different people at different times. Maybe right now you're in the building phase and you can work 12 hours a day, seven days a week. But maybe in a few years you've got kids and success is having freedom to spend time with them while they're young.” She asks every agency owner to reflect: “Is your company the tool to get you success, or is your company the success? Is it the means to the end or is it the end?” Her System for Freedom Through Discipline Lauren's three-section daily planning system is simple but effective. Using a paper planner, she breaks down daily into business development, recruiting, and operations. The buckets are interchangeable, so one disruption doesn't derail the whole day. “When you run your own business, there's a lot in the ‘other' section,” Lauren says. This system helped her keep placing candidates and winning clients—even during week-long hospital stays. Her insight: discipline in planning is what creates the freedom to adapt. Lauren Fernandez Bio Lauren Fernandez is the founder of Palm Coast Staffing, specializing in legal recruitment nationwide. She previously co-founded and scaled a sales and marketing company to 100+ employees before selling it at 28. After agency experience in Florida, she and her husband launched Palm Coast Staffing in 2022 with a unique twist—building the business from an RV while traveling the country. Lauren has personally hired over 1,000 people, giving her deep insight into aligning opportunities with candidates' life priorities. She's passionate about rebuilding trust in recruiting through authentic relationships, not spammy outreach. Currently based in Florida, she continues to build Palm Coast Staffing while supporting her husband through ongoing health challenges. Their next adventure? An RV trip from Florida to Alaska. Have you ever considered how differently beauty standards and body ideals are perceived from one country to another? Or how, during the pandemic, brands had to navigate not only cultural nuances but also rapidly changing local regulations? These are just some of our favorite real-world challenges explored in the latest episode of the Globally Speaking Podcast. Our host, Stuart Davison, Creative Director at RWS, sits down with creative colleagues at RWS, Sukhi Jhitta, James Marshall, and Silvia Sánchez Fernandez, to uncover how global brands can craft campaigns that truly connect across cultures. You'll hear how they see AI stepping in as a creative partner, helping to speed things up while keeping human authenticity at the heart of emotionally rich campaigns. Our team will even share some behind-the-scenes stories from their time at Cannes Lions 2025. Their key advice? Harness the power of storytelling and involve local experts early. Doing so is essential not only for building authenticity but also for successfully navigating today's complex global challenges.
Breaking news in the stalker case: Rick Fernandez has pleaded guilty to harassment. Instead of facing trial, he admitted responsibility for a new wave of harassment tied to the book he published while awaiting trial on felony charges. His sentence? 180 days in jail (suspended) along with three years of probation. If Rick contacts the victims directly or indirectly, he risks going to jail and facing new charges. In this episode, I dig into what this guilty plea really means, and you'll also hear from Rick's sister, Olivia Fernandez, who shares her complicated reaction to the news. The big question is: will Rick finally stop the harassment, or is this just another chapter in a story that refuses to end? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

In this episode, Olu discusses Nigeria's drop in the latest FIFA rankings, where the Super Eagles have fallen from 44th to 45th in the world and slipped out of the African top five. Just a year ago, after finishing 2nd in the AFCON final, Nigeria was ranked 28th, a reminder of how far the team has regressed. Olu also reflects on Nigeria's past dominance in World Cup qualifiers between 2004 and 2017, contrasting it with today's struggles.Elsewhere, FIFA has charged South Africa for fielding an ineligible player against Lesotho in the World Cup qualifiers. If confirmed, this could reshape Group C into a four-horse race between South Africa, Benin, Nigeria, and Rwanda. Olu also reviews standout performances from Nigerian stars like Alex Iwobi, Gift Orban, Raphael Onyedika, George Ilenikhena, Terem Moffi, Paul Onuachu, Cyriel Dessers, and Kelechi Iheanacho, as well as a look at the Under-20 World Cup squad heading to Chile. Send us a Text: Ask Us a Question! On this episode of Waypoints, we sit down with one of the true giants of our sport - a man whose story is as rich and influential as any in the world of flyfishing. Chico Fernández is a pioneer, teacher, innovator, and a lifelong ambassador for the art of casting flies in saltwater. From his early days in Miami shaping the very foundation of modern saltwater fly fishing, to decades spent writing, teaching, tying, and traveling the globe, Chico's fingerprints are all over the evolution of this sport. His books on bonefish and redfish are still regarded as essential reading, and his iconic fly patterns - like the Seaducer and the Bonefish Special - continue to catch fish (and fill fly boxes) around the world.Born in Cuba and exiled to Florida as a teenager, Chico brought with him a bamboo rod, a love of jazz, and a passion for fishing that would shape the rest of his life. From late-night tarpon missions in the Keys with a young Flip Pallot, to gear design work with some of the biggest names in the industry, to adventures in the Amazon, the Yucatán, the Indian Ocean and beyond, Chico's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In this episode, we dig deep into his story: the early days, the philosophy that's guided his life, and the lessons learned along the way. If you love saltwater flyfishing and if you value the soul of this sport, then this conversation is one you won't want to miss. After the success of the 2024 Belize and 2023 Baja Bluegrass events, we're excited to bring the experience back to Belize for 2025. This episode with health coach Ray Fernandez explores how popular wearables like the Oura Ring, WHOOP, Morpheus, and continuous glucose monitors can inform daily decisions about training, sleep, and stress. Rather than chasing single numbers, Ray emphasizes looking at trends over time to understand recovery, cardiovascular fitness, and metabolic health. The discussion highlights how, when used thoughtfully, wearables can support lifestyle changes without becoming a source of added stress
Send us a textWhy Church? All In | Part 2Dr. Jessica Fernandez August 24, 2025The Church thrives when ordinary people say yes to an extraordinary mission. This message is a call to move beyond passive attendance and step fully into God's purpose—offering our time, talents, and resources to something far greater than ourselves. Jesus invites us into a radically generous, mission-driven community where sacrifice becomes joy and service becomes worship. We're not just filling roles—we're building the Kingdom. When we give our lives to the Church, we're investing in what Jesus gave His life for. Your presence matters. Your gifts matter. Because the Church isn't just worth your time—it's worthy of your life.Connect. Serve. Grow. Give.__________Discussion Questions 1. What area of your life has been the hardest to surrender to Jesus—and why do you think that is? Reflect on your personal "life balls" (e.g., time, relationships, career, past, control). What are you still trying to carry?2. What does being “All In” for Jesus look like in your current season of life? In what ways are you following Him with full devotion, and where might you be holding back?3. How has surrendering to Jesus in the past brought freedom, healing, or direction in your life? Share a testimony of a time you let go of something and saw God show up in a powerful way.4. Which area—Connect, Serve, Grow, or Give—do you feel God is inviting you to step into more fully right now? What's one action you can take this week to lean into that area?5. Why is it important to surrender in community instead of trying to do it alone? How can your group support each other in taking the next steps of obedience and trust?

Every spiritual awakening begins with a release. We cannot rise while holding on to what keeps us small. In this episode, I explore release as the foundation of spiritual growth and the doorway to our true potential. I'm joined by my client Amanda, who opens up about her own path of remembrance—how she learned to love herself into higher standards. From letting go of relationships that drained her, to releasing extra weight, to moving beyond old limitations, Amanda's story is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when we choose ourselves. This conversation isn't just about personal transformation—it's about legacy. As we release what no longer serves us, we not only create freedom for ourselves, but we model new standards for our children and ripple change through every area of our lives. If you're ready to see letting go not as an ending, but as the beginning of your most expansive life, this episode will inspire you to step into that freedom. ✨ To explore private mentorship, email Nichole@nicholesylvester.com ✨ Or step into community inside Miracle Minded Woman – Fall 2025
It is the Summer of 2025, a time like no other in Los Angeles, California. There is drama on the streets, especially in Latino neighborhoods, where masked men jump out of unmarked cars and grab people who look like they might not have citizenship papers. It is at this time that the Latino Theatre Company has decided to mount their famous play, AUGUST 29, originally premiered in 1990, about a crisis and a killing in 1970 in East Los Angeles, a mostly Mexican American - Chicano area. Listen to Evelina Fernandez, founding member of the Latino Theatre Company now celebrating their 40th year, who knows the history of abuse toward Latinos in Los Angeles and cities across the USA, and can give first person tales of the back story of the play, AUGUST 29. The theatrical work created long ago inspires us to contemplate where we are as a society in 2025..AUGUST 29's last performances at the Los Angeles Theatre Center (LATC) in downtown, Los Angeles are August 22, 23, and 24. Performances will be held in other venues throughout September. It is being produced in partnership with the students of the Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy. Author Joan Fernandez discusses her new novel, Saving Vincent. This work of historical fiction is the story of Jo Van Gogh, sister-in-law of painter Vincent Van Gogh and wife of Vincent's brother Theo. After the death of her husband, who died only six months after his brother, Jo inherited Vincent's artwork. At that time, the paintings were worthless, but Jo worked tirelessly to persuade people to take Vincent's art seriously. Eventually, people began to appreciate his art and buy his paintings. Thus, it was Jo who promoted the work, developed a market for the paintings, and rescued Vincent Van Gogh from obscurity.

Irene Fernandez (1946-2014) was a Malaysian human rights activist. She co-founded Tenaganita, a non-governmental organization that promotes the rights of migrant workers. When she raised the alarm about migrant workers’ welfare in government detentions, she became the subject of one of the longest trials in the country’s history. We’ll be talking about Pink Collar Workers: women who revolutionized jobs that have traditionally been called "women's work." Through their lives, they created a more just and humane world for us today. History classes can get a bad rap, and sometimes for good reason. When we were students, we couldn’t help wondering... where were all the ladies at? Why were so many incredible stories missing from the typical curriculum? Enter, Womanica. On this Wonder Media Network podcast we explore the lives of inspiring women in history you may not know about, but definitely should. Every weekday, listeners explore the trials, tragedies, and triumphs of groundbreaking women throughout history who have dramatically shaped the world around us. In each 5 minute episode, we’ll dive into the story behind one woman listeners may or may not know–but definitely should. These diverse women from across space and time are grouped into easily accessible and engaging monthly themes like Educators, Villains, Indigenous Storytellers, Activists, and many more.
