KK016: EZ Riser - The Slacktivist Established in August 2020, KRUNK KULTURE is a record label from the future by KRUNK. The Slacktivist by EZ Riser is our next EP on Krunk Kulture. The debut EP by EZ Riser marks the expressive & full-blown arrival of music veteran Sohail Arora. Unhinged, emotive & raw, the 6-track project power packs high-BPM sonic landscapes through the dancey terrains of jungle and drum & bass. Thematically the electronic music project explores the new-age notion of digital “slacktivism” - the lackluster support or effort shown by online individuals in the vague hope of social or political improvement. The rough & rowdy sounds of the EP arise out of the artist's reflections on the movement & his interpretation of its place in our culture. Sohail Arora launched his solo project, EZ Riser, in Oct 2012. Often known as a pioneer for pushing cutting-edge electronic music with a heavy emphasis on bass in India, Sohail Arora got exposed to Bass music during his days of working with Blue Frog & Zenzi2, the iconic music venues of Mumbai. As the founder of KRUNK, India's foremost alternative booking agency and events crew5, Sohail & KRUNK have been instrumental in producing and elevating some of the most prominent and most prolific talents in India. EZ Riser's musicality extends to a variety of bass-heavy tunes shelled out over the years. EZ Riser's track ‘444' was released under the 2021 Billboard Presents: Electronic Asia Vol.5 compilation, while his track ‘Solar Dub Power' was released via 2022's Bass Coast Festival compilation, 12 days. He has also remixed the hit indie singles ‘Take' by Anushka & ‘Pieces' by Nothing Anonymous in 2020. His breaks-heavy track ‘Trippy Feet' was released as a part of Krunk Kulture's ‘Ganga Jamuna - Flavours of the East' compilation and was selected in iTunes' 2021 top 100 Indian Independent Hits playlist. EZ Riser has also played at leading global bass music festivals like Bass Coast Festival (Canada), Outlook Festival & Dimensions Festival (Croatia), Magnetic Fields Festival (India), NH7 Weekender (India), Vh1 Supersonic Festival (India), Jungle Flash Festival (Slovenia), Modern Sky Festival (Finland) & many more. This one's been a long time coming. As one half of Bay Beat Collective (BBC), Sohail Arora has been pushing low end sounds for over 4 years. His solo project Ez Riser aims to showcase newer forms of exactly that, yet with particular focus on glitch-hop and electronica (with a touch of hip-hop). A self confessed music geek and influenced by artists such as Koan Sound, Spoonbill, Opiuo and Griz (all currently destroying dancefloor's across the world), it's not hard to see where he gets his patronage for bass. As the founder of KRUNK, India's foremost alternative booking agency and events crew, Sohail has also over the years been responsible for touring acts such as Concord Dawn, Klute, London Elektricity, Koan Sound and Dub Phizix across India, whilst representing some of the freshest local sounds, including at a time, Dualist Inquiry and Reggae Rajahs with more recent additions such as Delhi Sultanate, BASSFoundation, Ox7gen and Sandunes. If like us, you've kept your ear to the ground, you'll know that he's done a lot. Ever attend any of the editions of BASS CAMP Festival? That's him too. Ultimately, it's Ez Riser's fidelity to the low end that ties his sound (and most probably life) together. And in truly well expected fashion, Wild City #051 absolutely bangs. From the stuttering almost-booty beat of Snareophobe's 'Stress Relief', right through to the fluttering groove of Heyoka's 'Glibidy Glob' and the hyper 'Eastern Thug', this is a mix made with the dancefloor in mind as much as the bedroom. And although the sounds may be familiar, the vibe is undeniably fresh - simply solid all the way through and that's more than enough. Fill your boots. "Introduction to glitch; Introducing a wide range of glitch influences, new and old on my 1st ever Wild City mix. Strictly for your best pair of headphones or sound system. Hope y'all like it." - Ez Riser For a tracklist and further info, head over here: http://www.thewildcity.com/EN/music.xhtml/article/3714-wild-city-051-ez-riser

BDK otherwise known as Big Daddy Klein is a founding member and resident DJ of BASSFoundation, New Delhi’s very first regular drum and bass, dubstep and reggae clubnight. Having discovered dance music in the early 90s after purchasing his first batch of new beat/acid house cassettes, Klein, like most electronic music heads of that era eventually moved on to breakbeat, the backbone to bass music today. Moving on to drum and bass seemed like a natural progression for the young music lover, after some of his friends started promoting regular nights in Rotterdam. It seems fitting that he began promoting bass music once moving to New Delhi in 2007. Within months of the first BASSFoundation event with fellow founders, Ed 'Praxis' Anderson and Taru ‘Delhi Sultanate‘ Dalmia, the collective of 2 young DJ's and 1 MC had carved themselves a solid niche within the capital's burgeoning electronic underground. Unfortunately today, BASSFoundation lies low. With two of its members based abroad, it has been left down to Delhi's iconic MC, Delhi Sultanate to hold true to his roots. He does this with a new project dedicated to roots reggae, with a strictly vinyl-only policy, aptly titled BASSFoundation Roots. This weekend however, BDK, under his Big Daddy Klein moniker, has been invited to play BASS CAMP Festival in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore alongside Dub Phizix, Jazzsteppa, Ox7gen, Tarqeeb, Mr Herbalist and DJ Uri. A good reason to get a mix then! Playing under his BDK guise, dedicated to UK bass music, swaying towards genres such as UK house and techno, it’s a lush selection of tracks from some of our favourite current producers. A total treat for those of us who’ve been following this sound with pleasure over the years, but also a perfect and well-rounded introduction to newcomers or the less familiar. "With this mix I've tried to bring a different, not straight up dance-floor vibe, that can hopefully be enjoyed in different settings. From chilling at home on a Sunday morning to cruising around on your bicycle late at night. This is a strictly vinyl mix. It's not planned, not edited but carefully selected" - BDK (BASSFoundation) For a tracklist and further info, head over here: http://www.thewildcity.com/EN/music.xhtml/article/2732-wild-city-039-bdk-bassfoundation

"There's no innate skill involved in quality drum and bass production beyond a surge of all nighters and dying city lights." says Mumbai based producer and DJ, Ox7gen. Self taught in the studio and now quickly gaining a reputation as the rising star of Indian drum and bass Ox7gen a.k.a Aditya Ashok is surely one to watch in 2012. In a career spanning just over a year, this self-proclaimed drum and bass newbie has been pushing the boundaries tirelessly. Suffice to say the effortless skill and insatiable appetite for glitch has paid off as he’s managed to garner himself an impressive following in only a few short months of live meddling. The latter half of 2011 saw Ashok play his first couple of gigs in Mumbai and also close Bacardi NH7 Weekender’s Dub Station stage. Throughout this mix, regardless of what genre is being explored, Ox7gen's love of drum-heavy percussion and thick rhythms is a constant. Textured by sharp, crunchy beats and mutating into a hard and sloppy sonic experience, it results in a listen that is quite possibly without a single dull moment.
