Saxophonist Julian “Cannonball” Adderley (born September 15, 1928) and his cornet-playing brother Nat (born November 25, 1931) co-led a popular jazz combo for many years in the 1960s and 70s. While Nat composed much of the music for the group, Cannonball's galvanic, pyrotechnic alto saxophone playing was the big draw. Indeed, from the time he arrived on the New York jazz scene in the 1950s, he set the town on fire with his incredible virtuosity and distinctive tone and attack. He was a key member of the great Miles Davis sextet alongside John Coltrane that recorded the classic album Kind of Blue. Trumpeter / composer Kenny Dorham (born August 30, 1924) is hardly a household name, but one would be hard pressed to name a musician held in as high regard by other jazz musicians. He played at a consistently high level throughout a career that included stints with Charlie Parker, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Joe Henderson to name just a few, and myriad excellent recordings under his own name. A number of his compositions have become jazz standards as well. And don't forget ... St. Michael's Jazz Fest returns for a second year of incredible jazz in Carlsbad Village! Saxophonist Sonny Rollins turns 95 this Sunday, and the Jazz Evensong Quintet honors this milestone by programming an afternoon of his compositions. Widely recognized as the greatest improviser of all time, his well of inspiration sometimes seems bottomless, and he refuses to fall back on licks and patterns on the rare occasion when he feels less than inspired. Sadly, health issues forced his retirement from performing for the past several years, but any one of the brilliant recordings he made over his long career would have easily secured his place as one of the all time greatest practitioners of our music. Over a span of 39 years, twenty-three aliases, twenty-eight arrests in twenty cities, and a dozen imprisonments, Robert Spears had lived a con artists' life of unparalleled adventure and intrigue. This is his story.Shortly before Thanksgiving Day in 1959, a plane exploded in mid-air, killing all forty-two passengers and crew and leaving scattered debris and bodies across the otherwise tranquil Gulf waters. Listed on the manifest was Dr. Robert Spears—once the highly regarded president of the Texas Naturopathic Association.Father of two small children with a lovely, society-minded wife and an elegant home in an exclusive neighborhood, it was a monumental tragedy for them, as it was for all the souls lost that day. Less than two months later, Robert Spears miraculously “rose from the dead” in Phoenix where he was promptly arrested. Headlining newspapers nationwide— “Man Downs Airliner to Fake Death”—Spears was discovered to have cleverly switched identities, persuaded his friend, Al Taylor, to fly with his plane ticket, asked him to carry “a package” on board and drove away in his friend's car with his wallet and driver's license. As the FBI began to investigate, they uncovered a stunning, mind-bending tale of murder, abortion rings, and false identities—more than twenty-five aliases for Spears alone—as well as insurance frauds and investment frauds that stretched over decades. But that was far from the end of the story. Methodically and carefully researched for years and meticulously sourced by a research sociologist and author, Vanishing Act is one of the great true crimes. He is the author of Vanishing Act: A Crashed Airliner, Faked Death, and Backroom Abortions. https://jerryjamison.com/http://www.yourlotandparcel.org
Welcome back to Wrestling Tonight, your weekly look at everything happening across WWE, AEW, NJPW, TNA, and beyond. This week's episode covers one of the most loaded slates of the year as the summer calendar reaches a boiling point. We begin with a full preview of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where the world's biggest promotions collide once again on one of wrestling's most anticipated stages. Headlining the card, AEW World Champion Hangman Page defends against MJF in a long-awaited rematch, while AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada puts his title on the line against Swerve Strickland. The show also features the reunion of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage as they team for the first time in over 14 years, Toni Storm defending the AEW Women's World Championship against Athena, and Zack Sabre Jr. meeting Nigel McGuinness for the IWGP World Championship. Kyle Fletcher defends the TNT title against Hiromu Takahashi, Mercedes Moné faces Persephone, Alex Windsor, and a Stardom representative in a TBS Championship Four-Way, and a stacked lights-out steel cage match pits Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Darby Allin, and Hiroshi Tanahashi in his London farewell against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd, and The Young Bucks. From there, we turn to WWE's future with NXT Heatwave. Oba Femi is set to defend the NXT Championship against either Trick Williams or Je'Von Evans, while Hank Walker and Tank Ledger put the NXT Tag Team titles on the line against DarkState. Jacy Jayne defends the TNA Knockouts World Championship in a triple threat against Masha Slamovich and Ash by Elegance, and Jordynne Grace collides with Blake Monroe. A number one contender's match for the NXT Women's Championship will also take place featuring Jaida Parker, Kelani Jordan, and Lola Vice. Over in TNA, Emergence 2025 delivered a card full of major results. Trick Williams retained the World Championship against Moose in a match that had the Baltimore crowd split but firmly cemented Williams as TNA's top babyface. The Hardys retained the World Tag Team titles against The Rascalz in one of the night's highlights, Leon Slater held onto the X-Division Championship against Cedric Alexander, and Mike Santana defeated Sami Callihan in a Baltimore Street Fight that may have marked Callihan's farewell. While technical issues marred the preshow, the main event and key title bouts gave TNA momentum heading into Bound for Glory. In Mexico, Triplemanía marked the official beginning of WWE and AAA's working relationship. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Nick Khan stood alongside AAA leadership to emphasize collaboration. On the card, Omos won the Copa Bardahl, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. claimed the Latin American title, and Psycho Clown and Pagano captured the AAA Tag Team Championship. Judgment Day scored a win in trios action, Flammer retained the Reina de Reinas Championship, and in the main event, El Hijo del Vikingo retained the AAA Mega Championship in a four-way over Dominik Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and El Grande Americano, with AJ Styles making a shocking run-in to help seal the finish. The event had the production, presentation, and pacing of a WWE show, sparking debate about AAA's evolving identity under this partnership. On the business side, TKO announced that UFC will end its traditional pay-per-view model beginning in January 2026 under a $7.7 billion, seven-year deal with Paramount Plus and CBS. WWE also secured a five-year, $1.6 billion agreement with ESPN, moving Premium Live Events like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble to ESPN's new streaming service. At the same time, reports revealed WWE holds an option to purchase TNA and a right of first refusal should the company seek another buyer, further linking the two promotions' futures. Finally, NJPW's G1 Climax 35 has reached its conclusion. Konosuke Takeshita defeated EVIL in the final at Ariake Arena, fighting through an injured knee and overcoming House of Torture interference to secure his first G1 victory. Along the way, Takeshita shocked Zack Sabre Jr. in the semifinals, setting the stage for their Wrestle Kingdom clash, where he will challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. With this win, Takeshita declared himself “The Alpha,” signaling his rise as NJPW's new international ace. Post Malone BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Post Malone continues to dominate headlines at the intersection of pop and country, making waves this week with both high-profile music releases and a slew of public appearances. The biggest news is the buzzworthy live music video for "Losers" recorded with Jelly Roll during their Seattle show, a release that fans and industry watchers alike are calling a major moment, as reported August 1 by WKXA Country. This follows continued momentum for his F-1 Trillion album, which dropped earlier this summer and boasts chart-topping singles like the Morgan Wallen duet "I Had Some Help." That collaboration is currently marking several weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the most successful cross-genre singles in years, according to AOL.The album itself remains a chart presence, edging close to twenty thousand in pure activity this week as reported by Hits Daily Double, and is fueled by other star-studded collaborations featuring Blake Shelton, HARDY, and Lainey Wilson—each performance and feature widening Malone's country cred. Post has been leaning heavily into the genre, with noted appearances at country-centric events: he recently performed at Dierks Bentley's concert at Utah First Amphitheater, surprising the crowd backstage and spurring viral moments on Instagram from August 1 and August 2. He has also been seen with fans and friends backstage at multiple venues, including smaller, more intimate gatherings, which are documented widely on social media with the expected outpouring of affection and hype.On the business front, the promotional machine is running hot. Following his intimate Bluebird Cafe set alongside Lainey Wilson and Ashley Gorley, Post has announced a high-demand stadium tour for 2025—kicking off in April with support from Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell—and is set to headline Coachella next year, performing both Sundays. These moves underscore his ever-widening appeal across musical boundaries, with PopFiltr highlighting his impact as a genre-bridging influencer.Meanwhile, video and photo content showing Malone interacting with fans, improvising backstage, and relaxing at shows like Dierks Bentley's amplify his approachable persona, with social accounts such as postydaze and others capturing candid moments to much engagement from fans. There's no major controversy or negative coverage; instead, the headlines tilt almost entirely positive, lauding him for rewriting what it means to be a crossover superstar and cementing this period as one of the most pivotal in his evolving career narrative.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOta
Episode 131 of Wrestling Tonight dives into one of the most consequential weeks in professional wrestling, where spectacle met scandal and history was made on multiple fronts. At the center of it all was WWE's Night of Champions, an event clouded in geopolitical controversy and marked by dramatic in-ring developments. Headlining the show was John Cena, who emerged from his clash with CM Punk still Undisputed WWE Champion after a chaotic main event that seemed designed to frustrate rather than resolve. Punk's return to Saudi Arabia, after years of public criticism of the regime, added a complex emotional layer to the match—only to be further muddled by a murky finish and post-match taunting from Seth Rollins, who now looms large as a wild card with the Money in the Bank briefcase and Paul Heyman at his side. Elsewhere on the card, Cody Rhodes captured the King of the Ring crown in a ceremonial victory over Randy Orton, a bout more notable for its symbolism than its drama. Jade Cargill's Queen of the Ring triumph over Asuka was a visual spectacle but highlighted the steep learning curve she still faces. Sami Zayn, returning to Saudi Arabia for only the second time, scored an emotional victory over Karrion Kross in a moment that resonated deeply with the live crowd. The U.S. Title scene saw more chaos than clarity, with Solo Sikoa toppling Jacob Fatu in a match heavy on interference and light on clean resolution. WWE rounded out the event with a formal announcement: the 2026 Royal Rumble will be held in Riyadh, solidifying its long-term partnership with the Kingdom in a move that continues to stir debate about the company's global priorities and moral compass. Across the wrestling landscape, AEW is preparing for a record-setting night of its own as All In: Texas—set for July 12 at Globe Life Field—has already surpassed $2.5 million in gate revenue with over 19,000 paid tickets sold, becoming the most-attended non-WWE wrestling event in North American history. The event has begun to take shape with Mark Briscoe and Kris Statlander securing the first slots in their respective Casino Gauntlet matches, while JetSpeed—Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight—earned a title shot against The Hurt Syndicate after a fiery win on Dynamite. Their celebration was short-lived, as Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, flanked by MVP and MJF, launched a brutal assault that left both challengers laid out, punctuating their dominance with a table-shattering finale. Back in NXT, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo claimed the Heritage Cup in dramatic and controversial fashion, as interference from Luca Crusifino backfired, fracturing the D'Angelo Family and casting doubt over loyalties. Injuries continue to plague WWE's roster, with Liv Morgan undergoing shoulder surgery and Chad Gable reportedly sidelined following an on-screen arm-break angle with Penta. Gable is set for surgery in early July and may miss several months of action. Meanwhile, Keith Lee took to social media to reassure fans his prolonged AEW absence is not health-related but rather out of his hands, a quiet critique of creative stasis. ROH and CMLL's Global Wars event delivered one of the year's most stirring cards, headlined by Bandido's successful ROH World Title defense over Mascara Dorada in a lucha clinic that further cemented his reign. The night also featured the emotional submission victory of Blue Panther over Lee Moriarty, which led to a surprise appearance from Bryan Danielson. Days later, Danielson again shocked fans by returning after AEW Collision in a surprise segment with Max Caster, submitting him in seconds with the LeBell Lock after an assist from Adam Cole. For the night, Danielson aligned with Kyle O'Reilly as “Kyle Danielson,” delighting the Washington crowd with a heartfelt rendition of “The Final Countdown.” Elsewhere in the news, the legal pressure continues to mount for WWE as Janel Grant's legal team filed a sweeping discovery request seeking emails, board minutes, NDA drafts, and internal communications involving Vince McMahon, WWE HR, Linda McMahon, and Dr. Carlton Colker. The move is intended to challenge WWE's push for arbitration, arguing that Grant's allegations of coercion deserve to be scrutinized in open court. MLW found itself in AEW's crosshairs as MJF appeared unannounced at an MLW taping to attack Mistico, further fueling speculation of a storyline—or power play—between the companies. NJPW's G1 tournament suffered a personal setback as Bad Luck Fale withdrew following a loss in the family, opening the door for Satoshi Kojima to face Ryohei Oiwa in the play-in. Meanwhile, Bobby Lashley not only continues his dominance in AEW but has also been announced for a French indie show following Forbidden Door, while teasing a potential MMA return after appearing at a recent BKFC event. In the world of broadcast media, SiriusXM has announced the launch of Pro Wrestling Nation, a 24/7 channel devoted entirely to pro wrestling that will replace Fight Nation. The new station will feature expanded programming including Busted Open Radio, Off the Ropes with Jonathan Coachman, and shows hosted by Natalya and Denise Salcedo. And just across from Madison Square Garden, a new Hulk Hogan-themed bar called Slam is preparing to open its doors, promising fans memorabilia, MSG nostalgia, and a full-circle tribute to one of wrestling's most controversial icons. From Saudi stadiums to Texas megashows, courtroom battles to backstage power moves, Wrestling Tonight continues to bring you the full spectrum of professional wrestling in all its triumphs, contradictions, and unfinished stories. Be sure to subscribe to Wrestling Tonight on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts—and follow @TurnbuckleTavern for weekly insights across WWE, AEW, NJPW, TNA, ROH, and the independent scene.

Over a span of 39 years, 23 aliases, 28 arrests in 20 cities, and nearly a dozen imprisonments, Robert Spears had lived a con artists' life of unparalleled adventure and intrigue. This is his story.Shortly before Thanksgiving Day in 1959, a plane exploded in mid-air, killing all 42 passengers and crew and leaving scattered debris and bodies across the otherwise tranquil Gulf waters. Listed on the manifest was Dr. Robert Spears—once the highly regarded president of the Texas Naturopathic Association. Father of two small children with a lovely, society-minded wife and an elegant home in an exclusive neighborhood, it was a monumental tragedy for them as it was for all the souls lost that day.Less than two months later, Robert Spears miraculously “rose from the dead” in Phoenix where he was promptly arrested. Headlining newspapers nationwide—“Man Downs Airliner to Fake Death”—Spears was discovered to have cleverly switched identities, persuaded his friend, Al Taylor, to fly with his plane ticket, asked him to carry “a package” on board, and drove away in his buddy's car with his wallet and driver's license. As the FBI began to investigate, they uncovered a stunning, mind-bending tale of murder, abortion rings, and false identities—more than 25 aliases for Spears alone—as well as insurance scams and investment fraud that stretched over decades. But that was far from the end of the story.Methodically and carefully researched for years and meticulously sourced by a research sociologist and author, Vanishing Act is one of the great true crime stories of our time and a compelling read that is paced like a page-turning, mystery novel. Until now, the complete and shocking story has never been told.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/houseofmysteryradio. In today's episode I had the great opportunity to speak with comedian Galina Rivina (www.galinarivina.com) about her ADHD diagnosis and how ADHD has helped her be a better comedian. Galina Rivina is a comedian and writer based in Los Angeles. Originally born and raised in Ukraine, she made it to the U.S. just in time to not have an irksome soviet accent. However, childhood as an immigrant has an undeniable influence on her writing - as does being a woman, navigating life as a millennial, and the day-to-day havoc of human existence. It's suspected that the lingering Chernobyl exposure gave her one-liners and short form storytelling that bit of the razzle dazzle. She has been performing stand-up all over the country for nearly a decade. Headlining in comedy clubs across the US and abroad, including the 2022 Cleveland Comedy Festival, the 2024 Netflix is a Joke Fest, and most recently opening on the road for Preacher Lawson. She has written for renowned standups, including Nikki Glaser and wrote for the 2019 Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin. She also hosts a weekly podcast; Galina Rivina Podcastina.

[Editor's Note: We experienced some technical difficulties with the audio of this episode. Our apologies, and thank you for your understanding!]Meghann Fahy's been thriving on screen for quite some time now. She was in over 80 episodes of One Life to Live as Hannah O'Connor and starred in the hit Freeform series The Bold Type which ran for five seasons. But, there's no denying that The White Lotus was a different kind of game-changer. Not only did Mike White's HBO series continue to be a pop culture sensation in its second season, but the quality of the new episodes earned nine members of the ensemble Emmy nominations, including Fahy.Since that Emmy nomination? Fahy's downright soaring. She had a role in the 2024 genre mash-up gem Your Monster starring a Collider Ladies Night favorite, Melissa Barrera. She was in The Perfect Couple with Nicole Kidman, she was in Rebuilding with Josh O'Connor which earned high praise at Sundance, and is also in Molly Smith Metzler's highly anticipated Netflix series Sirens with Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock. All very exciting achievements, but there's something extra special about the movie Fahy has hitting theaters on April 11. Christopher Landon's Drop marks the very first time Fahy is #1 on the call sheet for a feature film. She headlines as Violent, a widowed mother reluctantly going on her first date in years. While dining in an upscale restaurant with her dating app match, Brandon Sklenar's Henry, Violet starts getting a string of unusual and alarming anonymous drops to her phone. Is it her date? Is it another diner? Or perhaps it's an employee at the restaurant. Violet doesn't know and she'll have to figure it out on her own because the assailant is watching and they insist she tell no one - or else.Drop rocks a sharp script and the much-needed skilled mind and eye to execute it in Landon, but the success of the film heavily depends on Fahy's ability to deftly navigate the production challenges that come with such a concept while also ensuring the viewer can feel the threat Violet's under, and she excels tackling both - big time. While celebrating Drop's World Premiere screening at SXSW, Fahy visited the Collider Media Studio at the Cinema Center for a Collider Ladies Night interview to go back to the beginning and recap her journey to landing at the top of the call sheet.
