Through soulful insights on detaching from the ego and expanding the heart, Krishna Das reminds us that surrender is not defeat, it's the deepest devotion to God.Today's podcast is brought to you by BetterHelp. Give online therapy a try at betterhelp.com/beherenow and get on your way to being your best self. This week on Pilgrim Heart, Krishna Das gives wisdom on:Listening to the heart and paying attention to our motivationsWhy Krishna Das started to chant with people rather than aloneWhat surrendering means in spiritual life: bowing at the feet of GodRemembering that everything is all grace, but acting like it isn'tLoneliness and how feeling alone comes from within our own belief of separateness rather than physical closeness to other peopleGrief and longing for the things we do not haveRefining oneself through eliminating the parts of our lives that do not workNavigating morals in practice when a spiritual teacher has been denounced Keeping our hearts open and engaging with life fully regardless of our quickly passing feelingsGet a copy of Krishna Das's book, Chants of a Lifetime, to hear more stories about his chanting epiphany.Plus, grab this FREE download of The Divine Reality for stories of Neem Karoli Baba.“If we were ripe, if we were ready, if we were fully cooked, the moment we heard that, there would be nothing going on in our heads except the name. But we are not ripe, our lives are very busy, our minds are very distracted, so let's do the best we can to remember the name until the point that the name remembers us and it repeats itself within us.” – Krishna DasAbout Krishna Das:Layering traditional Hindu kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation, Grammy nominee Krishna Das has been called yoga's “rock star.” With a remarkably soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in even the most casual listener, Krishna Das – known to friends, family, and fans as simply KD – has taken the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling chant artist of all time. His album ‘Live Ananda' (released January 2012) was nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Age album category.KD spent the late '60s traveling across the country as a student of Ram Dass, and in August 1970, he finally made the journey to India, which led him to Ram Dass' own beloved guru, Neem Karoli Baba, known to most as Maharaj-ji. Krishna Das now travels the world sharing his kirtan practice and wonderful stories of his life, of Maharaji-ji, of his life on the Path and discusses bringing chanting into our lives through retreats and workshops. To date, KD has released 15 well-received albums, most recently Trust in the Heart released in October 2017.MORE INFORMATION and OFFERINGS VISIT: https://krishnadas.com/ KRISHNA DAS ON SOCIAL: FACEBOOK: facebook.com/KrishnaDasMusic INSTAGRAM: instagram.com/krishnadasmusic YOUTUBE: / krishnadasmusic X: @krishnadas #KrishnaDas“Over the years I've done lots of stuff, I've gotten in as much trouble as humanely possible, and I'm still here. Send us a textFairfax criminal lawyer Jonathan Katz last month joined several hundred attendees at the Boone, NC, Ram Dass mountain legacy retreat. The experience was wonderful, with people connecting at the heart and soul level, in the beautiful mountains and clean air. Our last podcast episode features Raghu Markus, the executive director of the Ram Dass Love Serve Remember Foundation. Among those on stage at this Boone mountain retreat was Nina Rao, who with a beyond beautiful voice chants mantra, sings, and shares her essence. Nina is the yin to the yang of dharma teacher and kirtan star Krishna Das (whom Jon Katz also met at this retreat), with whom she has been closely connected for years. Jon loves the voices and music of both Nina Rao and Krishna Das. In this podcast episode, Nina shares her essence, experiences, ideas and voice. Hear her chant at minute 44:00, and get her great CD's "Anubhav" and "Antarayaami: Knower of All Hearts". Krishna Das's great music includes "Trust in the Heart" and much more. What does Nina Rao have to do with beating the prosecution? Winning in court in important part involves finding and expressing one's voice. In fact, at the Trial Lawyers College, each attendee was expected to sing solo before the group at one point or another. Jon believes strongly in finding calm in the eye of the storm, and he has attended lawyers' mindfulness retreats and previously joined with numerous gatherings of a once active local contemplative lawyers group. Hear Nina talk about living a meaningful life no matter the turmoil, about universal love, wisdom, the gifts of her teacher Sri Siddhi Ma, clarity, and giving voice to our souls. This episode is also available on YouTube. Deeply thanking and bowing to Nina Rao. _______

Lama Zopa Rinpoche describes how to do the Lama Chöpa chants based on His Holiness Song Rinpoche's tunes from Gaden Shartse Monastery (supposed to be also from Pabongka's lineage). He says that in the past, the chanting came from enlightened beings. It came out of their bodhicitta to benefit sentient beings, and with their realization, so it carries their blessings.Rinpoche advises that when the chants are done nicely, it brings several benefits. It moves the minds of sentient beings and helps transform their minds into Dharma. When the chants are done slowly, they help by giving one time to think about the deep meaning of the meditation. The tunes can also persuade the holy minds of the protectors. Thus, the chanting can both benefit sentient beings and be an offering to the merit field.Rinpoche demonstrates the chants and suggests recording, practicing, and writing down the rhythms. He gives detailed instructions of the chants and shows the differences between the slow and fast chants. From April 10 to May 10, 2004, Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave extensive teachings during the Mahamudra Retreat at Buddha House in Australia. While the retreat focused on Mahamudra, Rinpoche also taught on a wide range of Lamrim topics. This retreat marked the beginning of a series of month-long retreats in Australia. Subsequent retreats were held in 2011, 2014, and 2018, hosted by the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo.Find out more about Lama Zopa Rinpoche, his teachings and projects at https://fpmt.org/
